After talking and looking for teams to go play for over the last two months, Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher has decided to call it a career.

Urlacher was an unsigned free agent, but couldn’t get another team to sign him, and therefore decided it was good to retire as a Bear.

“After spending a lot of time this spring thinking about my NFL future, I have made a decision to retire,” Urlacher wrote in a statement.

“Although I could continue playing, I’m not sure I would bring a level of performance or passion that’s up to my standards. When considering this, along with the fact that I could retire after a 13-year career wearing only one jersey for such a storied franchise, my decision became pretty clear.

“I want to thank all of the people in my life that have helped me along the way. I will miss my teammates, my coaches and the great Bears fans. I’m proud to say that I gave all of you everything I had every time I took the field. I will miss this great game, but I leave it with no regrets.”

Urlacher made it obvious that the only team he ever wanted to play for was the Bears, and it was a decision that will keep him as one of the best Bears LB’s ever.

New Era, the official on-field headwear of the National Football League, is teaming up with the NFL to launch the Back to Football Photo Day contest. So what this means is that Bears fans will now have the chance to join the ranks of Matt Forte to also become THE face of the Bears.

The contest, which is live at www.speakwithyourcap.com or through New Era’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/neweracaps?fref=ts) will require Bears faithfuls to submit photos of themselves showcasing how you personally “speak with your cap.”  Whether you wear your cap sideways, backwards or flexed at the brim, show how you are bringing your own style to the game.

32 fans (1 per team) will ultimately be chosen and win a complimentary trip to New York City for two. The winners will enjoy a four-day VIP experience and will be professionally styled in their favorite team’s looks for a New Era photo shoot that may be used for a year-long advertisement and promotional campaign.

The Bears have agreed to a four-year deal with second-round linebacker Jon Bostic, Dam Pompei of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The signing of Bostic leaves first-round pick Kyle Long as the only unsigned rookie on the team. The Bears previously had signed fourth-round linebacker Khaseem Greene, fifth-round offensive tackle Jordan Mills, sixth-round defensive end Cornelius Washington and seventh-round wide receiver Marquess Wilson.

Bears vice president of football administration Cliff Stein is known as one of the most efficient negotiators in the league, and he typically moves quickly to get deals done with rookies.

Bostic is seen as the eventual heir to the Bears’ middle linebacker throne. The 50th overall selection in the draft, he also can play outside linebacker and is likely to be a sub at all three positions as a rookie. He started 32 games at Florida and over the last two years made 162 tackles.

They struck again Thursday, agreeing to terms with linebacker Khaseem Greene and wide receiver Marquess Wilson.

On Wednesday, they signed offensive tackle Jordan Mills and defensive end Cornelius Washington. They were the first NFL draft picks to sign.

The only draft picks the Bears have not signed are first-round pick Kyle Long and second-round pick Jon Bostic.

Greene was the team’s fourth-round pick. He is expected to learn all three linebacker positions and be a backup this season.

Wilson was a seventh-round pick. He is a gifted player who scored 23 college touchdowns but was suspended from his team at Washington State, and then quit. He had a year of eligibility remaining.

Bears coach Marc Trestman worked with Tim Tebow briefly before the former Florida star was drafted in 2010 and quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh filled that role for Tebow last season. But the Bears have no interest in the backup quarterback who was released Monday by the New York Jets.

The Bears didn’t draft a quarterback last week and could be on the lookout for one before training camp opens, but a source told Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune that Tebow won’t be considered. The team has journeyman Josh McCown and second-year player Matt Blanchard behind starter Jay Cutler. St. Xavier’s Jimmy Coy is being brought into rookie minicamp starting May 10 on a tryout basis.

Cavanaugh, the new Bears quarterbacks coach after holding that position with the Jets last season, said the team didn’t use its Tebow package as much as it should have.

“I think it’s one of the things that you’ve got to be sure about when you do it,” Cavanaugh said. “Why doesn’t New England do it? Why doesn’t Denver do it? Why doesn’t New Orleans do it? They don’t want to take those guys (Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees) off the field. We were probably less convicted about how much we wanted to get (Mark) Sanchez off the field to do that. So it was something we toyed with. But to be fair to Tim, we didn’t use it enough to let him be productive in it. So you better be sure when you decide to do it.

“I think he’s a good football player and I hope he gets a chance to play more.”
