What if Susan Boyle couldn't sing?

I'm totally gripped by Susan Boyle mania which started out in the UK and has spread all over the world especially the US.

Now, I'm quite surprised by the US adopting the non-surgically enhanced in anyway Susan Boyle. This was someone who was an 'invisible woman' until she started to sing in the most breathtakingly haunting voice about faded dreams. My question is this, what if Susan Boyle could not sing? Would she remain an invisible woman, someone to be sneered at and frowned upon. What people miss, is that this the charm of Susan. If she was a stunningly beautiful, skinny, young lady, with the same voice, she would not have had the huge following.

This was a leason in judging people on the basis of looks, deciding whether they are sad or a winner, purely on this basis. The problem is that we all do it, all of the time. It is our shortcut to deciding who we are going to invest our time, money or emotion. We tend to like people who look like us, and even marry them! It's the concept of familiarity, we feel safe.

So go Susan, on behalf of invisible women everywhere.

In these days of recession, will we still be buying creams of £100 plus?
In the boom times, creams became more like sophisticated science applications, almost like medecine, with doctors and dermatologists getting their own ranges.
I think there will be some downsizing in beauty routines, with maybe bargain beauty creams coming back in Vogue.
