We have some very exciting news!  We are proud to announce that Beauricua Cosmetics has been nominated for Shecky’s Beauty at Its Best brand.  We cannot begin to tell you the joy we felt when we received the notice about the nomination!  Shecky’s will be announcing its 2010 BAIB winners on Nov 3-4 at the Beauty Night Out event.  The award will be posted on Sheckys.com starting Friday Nove 5th.

Dark Hair - Light Eyes

Have you ever changed the color of your hair, and wondered why certain colors of makeup and clothing don’t look good on you anymore?  The model to the right is the same person with two different colors of hair and makeup.  The images will clearly demonstrate the change in skin tone and choice of colors in her palette.

You have blond hair, but you’ve always admired redheads.  So you go the salon and change your blond hair to red.  Now you’re going to have to change your makeup routine as well because different hair shades demand different color palettes.  You will also notice that certain colors in your wardrobe are now clashing with your new hair color.  Here are some suggestions I put together for you to bring out your best features for your new look.

1. Your Hair has been changed to Blonde…

Baby pinks in warm tones will look wonderful with golden tones in your hair.

Eyes: Taupe and Bone shadows
Lashes: Black Mascara
Eyeliner: Smoke, Taupe, Soft Browns
Cheeks: Baby Pinks
Lips: Baby Pink Lipsticks – Lip Liner (match the color of your lips)

Light Hair - Light Eyes

You’ll also look great in salmon and peachy shades.

2. Your Hair has been changed to Brunette…

For an extra pop, use a light-to-medium colors, Raisin, Brown, and Mahogany.

Eyes: Amethyst, Brown or an Emerald shadow
Lashes: Black
Eyeliner: Charcoal or Mahogany liner
Cheeks: Rose or Raisin
Lips: Rose or Raisin – Lip Liner (match lip liner to your lipstick, for an extra pop, make your lip liner darker than your lipstick)

For dark eyes, a soft smolder (light smokey eye) with amethyst or emerald shadow and charcoal or mahogany liner.

3. Your Hair has been changed to Red…

Eyes: Carmel and Toast eye shadows
Lashes: Brown Mascara
Eyeliner: Brown
Cheeks: Apricot or muted Pink blush
Lips: Rich Brown, Brown-Red shades Lipstick (Matching Lip liner & Lipstick)

And if you have green eyes, make them look even greener by lining them with a red-brown liner.

4. Your Hair has been changed to Dark Brown or Black…

Eyes: Blackberry, Plum, Burgundy
Lashes: Black Mascara
Eyeliner: Soft Brown or Gray
Cheeks: Mauves Muted Pinks
Lips: Blackberry, Plum, Burgundy, and Red (Matching Lip liner to Lipstick)

Add a white shadow to your brow bone to really make them pop.

5. For natural Gray…

Eyes: Dark Eyes – Gray or Brown shadow palette/Light Eyes – Gray, Slate, and Navy
Lashes: Black-Brown or Brown
Eyeliner: Brown
Cheeks: Rosy tones, muted brights, or pastels
Lips: Pink, Rose, Apricot, or Peach (Matching Lip liner & Lipstick)

Avoid blue eye shadow, which can give an aging appearance, unless you have an olive tan skin tone.  Olive skin tones have a green or blue hue undertone.

Note: Please be mindful the terms used above are to described color, does not necessarily mean that you will have an un-natural look.  It’s all in the application and blending technique.  How light or dark you wish to go.  These colors are coordinated to bring out your best features in your skin tone, eyes and hair color, and most importantly, the look that will show up best in photos.

For Example: If you were a blond and have changed your color to a red or brunette family.  Pink pallete will not work as well as something in the peachy family.  You will now have to rearrange your whole color pallete.  Below you will find some suggestion of your skin type and the best colors that will work with your skin tone.

1. Tan Easily – Yellow-to-Olive undertone.

2. Burn Easily – Pink, Bluish-Red or Ruddy skin tone.

3. Yellow Skin Tone – (Sallow – Asian)

4. Olive skin tones – (Ashen or Gray) Natural yellow undertone with a Greenish Hue.

5. Neutral skin tones – Are those with no obvious overtones of olive, sallow, pink. (You lucky girls…)

Redheads – with fair to medium skin tones – corals, salmon, browns, ambers, bronze, and other earth tones.

Blondes – fair skin to medium skin tones – range of pink shades.

Brunettes – fair to medium skin tones – light rose and soft red shades.

Dark-Brown – Fair to medium skin tones, vivid shades of rose and cherry.

Black Hair – Deeper skin tones – Soft natural tones such as nude pinks, soft browns, and pale corals.

Hey Lipstick & Lip Gloss Fans!

I wanted to write about a challenge I recently came across on Beauricua’s Facebook Fan page.  I was browsing profiles and saw a picture of our client, Ana Medina.  Ana was wearing a beautiful lip shade in a photo that I fell in love with.  Ana is a Diva blogger for the Diary of a Plus Fashionista and dear client of Beauricua Cosmetics.

I asked her, “Do you know the name of the color you’re wearing and by who?  Because I would love recreate it.”  Ana responded, “It’s a lip combo using MAC, I used the Viva Glam Gaga lipstick and a limited edition lipglass from an old collection called Soft and Slow.”  Ana expressed how much she loved our Custom Blend lip gloss that she purchased from us at a Shecky’s GNO event.  The color Ana purchased is Beauricua’s signature color and is named: Beauricua.  The lip gloss is a sheer natural color with a hint of peachy melon with a tad of twinkle for pop.  The Beauricua lip gloss color falls into a warm shade and is great as a spring and summer shade to wear. 

I’m glad we offer custom blending because it is something we specialize in.  We can create or recreate any color we want and never have to worry that it will be discontinued.  I’m very passionate about what I do and it is a wonderful way of expressing myself.  It gives me the opportunity to do something I really love doing, it’s like being a mad scientist for beauty.  I am a beauty alchemist.  So Gaga and Soft & Slow, the challenge is ON…!

Many major name brand companies launch a new color and then discontinue them.  Many customers are left wounded because they can’t purchase the colors ever again.  This is where Beauricua Cosmetics comes in, all we need is a swatch of color with enough pigment, lipstick or lip gloss, and we will analyze it under a microscope and recreate the shade with extra benefits.  We can add special additives like: lip plumper, sunscreen, silkening, floral complex for anti-aging and moisturizers.  We can also add flavors and scents to any lipstick or lip gloss formula.

I have documented our process of recreating these two beautiful colors with images.  We have created our version called: “Totally Gaga” lipstick and “Suavecito” lip gloss.  You will see how perfect the colors match and how much I love my new shades of Totally Gaga and Suavecito together as the perfect pair!  Enjoy…and tell us what you think.  We would love to hear your thoughts from you.
