Summer Nights and LA Craft Experience Was A Blast!

I must say, we had one heck of an evening this weekend, at the LA Craft Experience at Summer Nights, in Historic China Town in Los Angeles. There was a great selection of music, art, craft vendors, food, and of course, the amazing crown of supporters! We want to thank all of our family and friends, that made it out to the event. This is Bananas! One More Etsy Shop Added to the Belandaria Family...And We Have Snacks!

That's right, we're venturing into the Epicurean world of delicious edibles! Our newest shop is called Bella Luna Sweets And Spices and we'll be offering some amazing products. We'll have home made preserves and marmalade, as well as baked goods, teas, sweet and savory snacks, and high quality specialty food items. We launched this little shop to bring together a family of folks, who by all accounts, LOVE food! We love making it, eating it, chatting about it, eating it.....Well, you get the picture! I have an amazing child hood friend that has found her niche in the way of making delicious banana bread, with some unique variations. Now, beyond the fact hat her bread has no milk in it(great for those who have dairy allergies), it is a moist, delicious treat any time of the day. She'll be making traditional Banana Bread, Banana Nut Bread, Banana Nut and Chocolate Bread, and even a sinfully fun recipe called "The Elvis". All you have to know about that one is it does involve peanut butter chips, bananas, and deliciousness! All of these amazing

items will be available in mini loaves, large loaves, sampler slices, and sampler packs, beginning August 30th. In the mean time, feel free to visit the shop to see some of our newest additions of preserves, marmalade, savory pan bread, and much more to come!

What More Can I Say About Noni's Gourmet? Yummy Goodies That you Must Try!

I gotta say, I am a bit of a snack lover and sweet tooth. That was the motivation behind a late night perusing through Etsy's edible offerings. I came across Noni's Gourmet and simply could not resist purchasing her Blueberry Syrah Jelly. That's right, jelly with Syrah wine. Sounds Delicious, right? Well, I can say it is So delicious that I wanted to share a bit of info about this amazing Etsyian! Leona "Noni" was nice enough to do a little interview with me and this is what she had to say:

When did you get started in Making Jams and Jellies?

***I started helping my mom and grandmother when I was very young and I spent a lot of time in the kitchen learning from them. Those are some of my fondest and most treasured memories.

How do you come up with your unique flavor combinations?

***I love experimenting! (And I have wonderful friends and family that are more than happy to be my "guinea pigs".) Some of my favorite creations are my jams/jellies that contain wine, champagne and whiskey. I actually don't even drink! I just love the intricate flavors and complexities.

What suggestions could you make to anyone who may want to follow the same creative path?

***Do what you love! It's so important to love what you do and share that with anyone and everyone. It gives me so much joy to share my products.

***Where do you get your inspiration?

The beautiful Wenatchee Valley I live in is abundant with a variety of fresh fruits throughout the year, so I don't have to look very far for inspiration. My oldest daughter loves wine and is always there to suggest a certain fruit paired with the right wine. I also get suggestions from my friends and family.

I always enjoy getting feed back and requests, as it really helps us focus on the things that are important to our clients. We really couldn't do what we do, without your amazing support, kindness, and constructive criticism. With that in mind, I wanted to let everyone know about some of the new products we are offering now or will be offering in the very near future, in our fun little Displays and Packaging Shop Notable Notions , we have Chocolate.....

chocolate colored boxes that is! Yep, they're here and have been met with amazing demand. We offer them currently 5 different sizes and these pretty paper boxes are 100% recycled and made in the USA. While you buy your packaging, you're being eco-friendly and you're supporting the US Economy. What a fabulous person you are! Kudos and Thanks for that.

We've also had a lot of requests for matte black boxes too and yep, we got 'em. These sophisticated boxes are also 100% recycled and USA made. Yippee! We currently carry 2 sizes, But will be carrying them in a total of 4 sizes, by year's end.

Now, I gotta admit, No one can ever have enough of the chocolate goodness, so we carried that popular color over into our plastic merchandise bags line. These are perfect for so many types of items. They're strong, with a cut out handle, and rich luxurious color....Oohhh, lala...

We've also added a bunch of whimsical color printed high quality boxes, that may interest you, as well. We have a pretty Asian inspired floral print box, a retro daisy style box, a colorful posie print box, And we'll be offering a gorgeous Rose style box, as well. These gorgeous packaging choices have a pretty foam insert, perfect for displaying sets or single jewelry items.

Finally, We've been lucky enough to get quite a few requests for items, pertaining to Weddings and Bridal showers, so we've expanded our packaging to include pillow boxes, gorgeous flocked drawstring bags, satin drawstring bags, and a vast array of colors and sizes in our organza drawstring bags. We recently had the pleasure of getting to chat with an amazing Jewelry Artist named Samantha. She is the dynamic mind and creative drive behind one of my most favorite Etsy stores, Missesbird . She has a series of unique hand engraved sterling silver jewelry that is worth taking a peek at.

OK, so I gotta say this, I am OBSESSED with arts and crafts! I decided that it may be an interesting endeavor to try my hand at something different than jewelry. Since we are one of a few packaging and displays providers on Etsy, it seems that I had this immense untapped resource of new "canvasses" for a creative outlet. The result...... My new line of hand created artist gift and jewelry boxes! Woo hoo! Can I just tell you how much I LOVE making these little boxes look like this! It makes me so happy to have another way to get my creative angst out and make something that someone may enjoy! To Answer The Ever Present Question, "Can I do my Arts and Crafts for a Living?"

So many people in this world hold a true talent for something great. Whether it be making jewelry, painting pictures, taking photographs, or one of many other well recognized arts. In these times of uncertainty, quite a few people are looking for ways to be more self sufficient and self supporting. Have you ever thought of doing your art or craft as a career? I know, it may seem far fetched, but quite frankly, if you have the patience and the right resources, as well as the genuine talent, you CAN do it. Here's a little guideline of some things to consider, when you decide to pursue that creative career you've always dreamed about having:

Consider your talents and specialize in the things you are best at. Try not to spread yourself too thin, as this may inhibit your growth potential. Find something you do well and be AMAZING at it.Remember, do what you LOVE to do.
Find Your Niche Market. Who are your clients? Who is able to consider purchasing and appreciating what you create? what are the best ways to reach that particular audience?
Consider all of your marketing avenues, including online e commerce, trade shows, art fairs, local periodicals, magazine publications, stores fronts, etc. What is the most cost effective way to reach the largest amount of your audience at one time?
Be Creative with your marketing. Think outside of the box. Have you considered doing things, such as promotions and give aways? Have you offered loyalty incentives? Are you out there in your community, letting people know about you and your goods/services?
Be open to continuous education and sharpening of skills. Even the best artists can learn a thing or to, in order to make them a more "well-rounded" artisan. Consider workshops, college courses, or even weekend education retreats. They are a fun and social way to expand your abilities and meet like minded artists.
Network. Don't be afraid to know the people in your community. Attend local Chamber of Commerce meetings, town meetings, community fairs, etc. Utilize your online networks as well, through amazing sites, such as Facebook, My Space, Twitter, etc. You could meet some amazingly supportive people that way, so get out there!
Be Patient. This is the most important rule of thumb. Nobody is a success over night. Anything worth having takes some effort, energy, time, and a lot of motivation and desire. Don't let the things you have not attained yet be the focus of your energy. Consider all of the things you have accomplished, and give yourself time to acknowledge your accomplishments, no matter how big or small.

Although there are many things to consider, these are the key points that have been a helpful guideline for me, in my personal and professional pursuits. I have had the pleasure of owning and operating my creative business for a little over 7 years and have loved every minute of it. Also, keep in mind that success is not always measured just by dollar signs. It is also measured in your happiness, satisfaction, and quality of life. When you are happy in your decisions, everything else seems to fall in place.
