Hypermart Bandar Lampung is one of the most visited malls in Bandar Lampung. Strategically situated on Jl.Kartini, Hypermart comes first thing in everyone's mind when they think of doing the shopping. For one thing, Hypermart is easiest to reach from all corners of Bandar Lampung city. Secondly, attached to Hypermart is popular 24 hour McDonald food store, where most young people love hanging out at.

Like many other malls, Hypermart also provides fresh foods ang vegetables, clothes, shoes, and so on. What lacks in Hypermart Bandar Lampung is availability of electronic devices. There is only one shop that sells smartphone on the first floor together with other electronic equipment.

On the forth floor, you can find small restaurants, entertainment corner for kids and a movie theater. In fact, it is the only movie theater in Bandar Lampung.

On the first floor lies the supermarket, where you can buy bread, fruits, clothes, electronic tools, kitchen appliances, TV sets, mobile phones, and so on. Just outside the supermarket, there are ATM machines (BCA, BRI, BNI).

Bambu Kuning: One of the most crowded marketplaces in Bandar Lampung

Bambu Kuning plaza is in fact the oldest market that have experienced many changes. The second floor used to be a cinema that was visited by many movie goers. Now the second floor is used for car parking lot, while the first consists of all kinds of shops, mainly shops selling clothes. In the day time, especially on weekends, Pasar Bambu Kuning is filled with too many shoppers. You should be on the alert for pickpockets who may steal something from your pockets or bags.

Owners of shops in Bambu Kuning are mostly sellers from West Sumatera. If you do not know how to --haggle over the price, you may get ripped off--paying too high for what you buy. Most sellers offer their clothes by doubling the normal price. If they say 100,000 IDR for a shirt, you should ask them to go come down to 50,000 IDR. That is what I hear from people who are used to shopping in Bambu Kuning market.

Bambu Kuning opens at 9 in the morning and closes at 5 in the afternoon. At night you can only buy foods or others at the shops that still open till late at night.

Chandra Mall Bandar Lampung

Chandra mall is one of the famous shopping centers in Bandar Lampung. It is an established shopping center with many branches throughout Lampung Province. The central office of Chandra mall is located in the heart of Bandar Lampung city.

In addition to comfortable shopping places, Chandra also opens a hotel adjecent to the main building of Chandra market so that shoppers who come from other cities or provinces may spend the night in Wisma Chandra while enjoying themselves shopping around.

Chandra Mall Bandar Lampung

Chandra mall has a large parking lot--one outside the building just in front of the office, others at the basement, on the second through the fourth floor. Shoppers who drive their car can exit through the back gate or the front gate, depending, which direction is close to your home destination.

What to do in Chandra Mall
As many other malls, Chandra has a supermarket on the first floor. Bread and doughnut are outside the supermarket. The breadtalk and doughnut shops are run separately. Still on the first floor you can also find other shops selling foods and medicines, magazines and exercise equipment. Car and computer exhibitions are also sometimes held on the first floor.

The second floor of Chandra mall is for clothes and shoes departments, and the third floor is for children to play around.

Soekarno-Hatta's Road Repairs Are Expected to be Finished Soon.

Road repairs on Jl.Soekarno Hatta have caused the city traffic to be jammed. Up to April 26th, 2013, the percentage of completion is still below 50%. Road from Tugu Radin Inten to Panjang area is still badly damaged. What is the government focusing is the widening of the road. If the widening is completed, the road paving with asphalt and patching of the hole will soon be started.

Part of the roads, that are often damaged due to the earth condition, will be paved with concrete as thick as 50 cm. With this concrete paving, the road is hoped to be strong and the possible damage of the road can be minimized. The road concrete paving is now underway on the crossroad of Jl.Ratu Dibalau, which is, as usual, causing traffic jam.

Jl. Soekarno-Hatta is at the moment still under the responsibility of Central Govenment. All repair cost shall be born by the Central Govenment.
Meanwhile, owners of shops or restaurants along Jl. Soekarno Hatta, where heavy roadwork is underway, have suffered a drop in their sales due to the decrease of customers. They cannot do anything but wait till the road repairs are completed.

Run No.513

Time and Date: 06:30 am / APRIL 14, 2013

Location: VILLA KO INGGRIS, Bandar Lampung, Indonesia

Hares and Cohares: Hadi, Akam, Heri, Akam

Good morning to all the hasher. How's it going today? I hope
you all will stay healthy and keep the hashing spirit in joining the run. This
week we have come back to hash in Villa Ko Inggris. It's been such a long time
since we last hashed here. From the location, we are sure what kind of run we are
facing--going down and up the hills. This week we should be grateful for sunny
weather and it hasn’t poured down for a long time. The vehicles hashers drove
was not stuck in the mud as they experienced during the rainy season. This
week, present hashers were more than usual--80 people all together. Among those
who were present were Ko Alin and his wife--They disappeared for sometime not
hashing with us. They both must have missed us all. There were also 2 new comers
from Danamon Bank. Hope they will enjoy hashing with us.

Before on on time, Cik Farida asked all hashers to do
gymnastics first as a warming up before climbing. Mr. Amir then delivered a
speech representing hash master who was unable to attend. No questions and no
more info, then all packs of hashers rushed into the trail going down into the
river, and climbed a little bit, then continued up to the top.

Sunny and hot weather made climbing a little tough. All were
puffing and blowing and wet with sweat. Come on guys! Get moving fast. to keep
up with the front pack of brave and strong hashers. Indeed, climbing takes a
longer time. We all had to drag our tired feet up to the transmitter tower on
the top of the hill. Yes, that was our destination up there. However, slowly
but surely transmitter tower was a little more to reach. Thank God, we finally
made it to the top. We all enjoyed spectacular view from the top of the hill.
Sunny day made the view look clear and beautiful. Blue sky with a row of white
cloud made us all feel cool and fresh. Some hashers equipped with cameras took
pictures of beautiful scenery. "Share some with us on face book, will ya?"
shouted a few hashers.

After about 10 - 15 minutes of enjoying the view, all rushed
back to the on in, as they knew special breakfast prepared by Ko Selim was
there waiting. They all rushed to get back as they didn't want to miss the
breakfast. Usually, foods were eaten up just before all hashers got back. Do
you know who ate the food up? Easy answer. Those sinning hashers who never
finished the run came back and ate it up. No food supervisors at the site.

Next week, we will hash in Citra Garden housing complex.
Lampung hashers are advised to park their cars at the marketing office of Citra
Garden. Then breakfast menu next week will be sponsored by Anto who is
celebrating the birth of 2nd child, a daughter. Congratulations, may the
parents be blessed.

Based on the results of earlier studies, black gold content in these districts have reached 1 billion metric tons. Although it is not known how much money it is worth yet, the potential content of coal is equivalent to energy power plants of 3,500 mega watt. So far, there are at least 40 companies, which have applied for coal mining exploration licenses with a total investment of 20 trillion rupiah said Tribun Lampung.

Coal mining association chairman Lampung, Anshori Djauhar is quoted as saying that the mining exploration license is expected to come out in 2014. Meanwhile, regent of WestTulang Bawang, Bachtiar, feels sure that his area has a potential for coal or oil deposit. He is not sure if the land is laden with coal or oil."It is still being reviewed", he said according to m.energytoday.com.

Bakhtiar said the allegations of the mine is due to the heat felt by the people in the region. According to him the signs of nature can be an indication that there is mine in the ground because in some areas laden with mines, the air pressure in the region also resembles like the one we have here.
He said that WestTulang Bawang regency would prove it by inviting the relevant parties. "I think mine is still young in this area. But I still believe there are mining in the district. Moreover, there are traces of points of drilling," he said closing the comment.

If coal mining does exist in Tulang Bawang District, then this will add a lot to the district's asset. What has to be thought of is that Regent of Tulang Bawang should make better preparation far in advance so that the mining can better be handled.

According to Tribun reporter, coming across apes or jungle people is a normal thing to people living around Way Kambas National Park. Mitoes, legends or mouth to mouth information is often heard regarding another life in this world.

Way Kambas guards patrolling around the park came across a few apes or forest people. They claimed that they saw them having long hair and bare chest. They were not sure if they had clothes on to cover their lower part of the body. These people disappeared upon seeing the guards. One of the forest policemen mentioned that they looked very much like ancient people described in flint stones movies. Those who came across the apes or jungle people were not even sure of their height for the simple reason that the forest police saw them from a distance and within a very short time.

Way Kambas National Park authority will take actions regarding the finding of "apes" by the forest police team. It is said that infra red camera will be placed around where the team saw the apes in the hope that when these jungle people come out again, the camera will shoot them.

Up to the present time, there is no evident that the jungle people do exist.

Next to Bread Talk is J.Co shop selling doughnut. The same as Bread Talk, J.CO is also one of the favorite food shops at Chandra Mall. Its location is right on the corner and allows shoppers to eat their doughnut at the provided tables. You can sit down there comfortably while waiting for your friends or spouse who are doing the shopping at Chandra.

Besides Doughnut, J.CO also serves ice cream with different flavor, and some puddings. I can say that J.CO is the best Doughnut food shop in Bandar Lampung. There are other doughnut shops you can find in Bandar Lampung but they are not as nice and comfortable as J.CO located at Chandra Mall, Bandar Lampung.

J.CO open at 9:00 and closes at 22:00. So, when you are there in the evening, you don't need to rush. I think the best time to be there is in the afternoon or evening. You will have plenty of time shopping around at Chandra Mall.
Some other food shops sell various kinds of cakes and bread including doughnut. However, food shops selling one special food probably serves much better in terms of the food that it sells.

Doughnut is still much liked cake by people of all ages. Bandar Lampung residents should be proud of having J.CO that sells delicious doughnut.

Despite the existance of many new malls with a special place for mobile phone corners, smartphone corners on the ground floor of Mall Kartini is still the most visited smartphone market place. Just about everyday from Monday to Sunday, more visitors to the mall are seen to gather in the smartphone area choosing smartphones of their own choices.

Smartphone corners can also be found at Simpur mall, Lotus, Chandra, Hypermart, Giant but the number of visitors is not as big as that at Moka. In Chandra, for instance, there are only a few smartphone shops in the basement of Chandra mall.

In Lotus, some smartphone shops have been closed down and replaced by computer shops. And in Hypermart, there is only one smartphone shop in the supermarket area. Up to now, Moka's smartphone corner is still the most visited. Simpur mall is the second biggest after Moka.

People from district cities such as Kotabumi, Metro, Kalianda, and many others also come to visit Bandar Lampung to do the shopping. One of the things in their shopping list is mobile phones. Indeed, mobile phones are now owned by all from all walks of life.

We can say that Moka has the biggest mobile phone market on the ground floor. At Chandra supermall, as mentioned above, there are only a few phone counters on the basement, while at Hypermart, there is only one within its supermarket.

Tirtayasa--Road Condition

Jl. Pangeran Tirta Yasa links Bandar Lampung to Sribawono area. It starts from the end of the dual carriage way Jl.Pangeran Antasari and finishes at the T junction at the road leading to Sribawono from Panjang via Jl. Ir Sutami.

In many parts of Tirta Yasa road, there are damages that makes driving difficult. With heavy traffic along this road, driving should be done very slowly and it is rather dangerous for two-wheel vehicles.

Despite the road condition, public transports such as mini buses operated privately and BRT buses travel this road taking passengers to and from the center of Bandar lampung to Sutami area.

Jl. Pangeran Tirta Yasa used to be a very smooth road but since there have been many trucks with heavy loads using this road, it now becomes one of the badly damaged roads in Bandar Lampung. It is said that the road will be repaired soon after the flyover connecting Jl.Pangeran Antarsari to Jl. Pangeran Tirta Yasa is completed.

Regarding the worse condition of Jl.Pangerat Tirtayasa, many complaints have been sent to the local government in the hope that the road will be improved as soon as possible.

According to people who live near the road, they often see big trucks with heavy loads travel Jl.Pangeran Tirtayasa, resulting in the road condition getting even worse. Some people blamed that it was due to the low quality of the road.

Jl. Tirtayasa links Bandar Lampung to Sribawono District. Therefore, the improvement of the road is very urgent. The good news is that the local government has been urged that constructions of both flyovers should be finished in May, 2013.

Compared to a decade ago, companies selling houses to live in have risen. There used to be only a government-owned house sellers called Perumnas and a few privately owned companies like Aryamandala, Citragarden and Villa Citra. Now there more than 5 house selling companies offering houses to live in. A few of them offer ready to occupy houses, while many others do not have ready stocks. They will build houses upon requests.

Most houses are sold on credit. There are also more banks offering house credit facilities--BTN, BRI, BNI, and some other private-owned banks. Buyers usually have to fill in the form and shall meet prerequisites to be able to buy houses on credit. Buyers should have regular income either from their salaries or from their own business. If they have families, copies of identity cards, marriage certificates and family cards should also be submitted.

In terms of house price, compared to the prices of houses in 1990, it has risen in ten folds. A simple house sized 36 m2 used to be sold at Rp. 23,000,000.-- Now it costs more than Rp.140,000,000.-- However, if one sells his house at the current price and wants to buy a new house, the raised price he gets won't be enough for him to buy a house in similar size.

It seems that house selling businesses have mushroomed despite the fact that building houses without the help of house selling companies costs much less.
The flood water was reported to be as high as the bridge connecting Pasirgintung II and an inner village called Kampung Empang located opposite Pasar Gintung market.

Residents of Bandar Lampung hopes that rainfalls will not get worse in the near future.

Despite the worse condition that rain has caused, many poor residents have used the opportunity to fish on flooded areas where puddles that have been created have turned out to be fishing ponds. The fish may have been stranded when rivers overflew.

The best time to get fresh vegetables in traditional markets in Bandar Lampung is early in the morning. All vegetables are brought in to the markets very early by sellers coming from remote areas.
Traditional markets of Pasar Gintung and Smep start selling activities at 3 am. At this hour, vegetables are ready to be sold.

Vegetables can also be bought from Way Kandis traditional markets, which is about 2.5 km from Way Halim traditional market. According to my observation, vegetables at Way Kandis traditional market is much fresher as they are closer to farmers' houses, around which they plant their vegetables.

Malls and supermarkets also sell fresh vegetables. Go to Hypermart, Moka, or Chandra supermarket. Most well off people buy vegetables from malls or supermarkets, especially those who are busy working and only have time in the evening.
Most fresh vegetables are from areas of Lampung province, so they still keep the freshness during transport and selling.

According to Public Work Agency of Tanggamus regency, Kota
Agung, Tanggamus will soon have a modern beach resort called Pantai Muara Indah,
located next to Kota Agung harbor. The targeted beach area is 2 hectares square
meter. The Program division head, Retno Noviana, as quoted by Tribun Lampung,
said that for the initial phase, Public Work Agency is to build a gate to the
beach, which is estimated to cost 100 million IDR. The fun is already budgeted
and the construction is expected to start early this year (2013). Other buildings
such as gazebo and paving lanes will become parts of a green open field on the
beach. Retno said that this modern beach resort would be the first one in
Tanggamus.

“The budget for the construction of the modern beach resort
in Kota Agung will be allocated from local and National budget totaling 17
billion IDR,” Retno explained.

As Muara Indah beach is located next to the harbor, the
modern beach shall function to complement the coastal area of Kota Agung. The
target area of Muara Indah used to be human settlements but now the people have
already been relocated to another region in West Kota Agung. The relocation is
based on the government regulation stating that an area of 150 meters the beach
line belongs to the government.

It may take a long time till Kota Agung becomes a city of tourists' destination. However, local government has made preparation far in advance.

image from wisatanesia.com

One of tourism resorts in Kalianda, South Lampung is Pantai Wartawan, located about 14 km from the city of Kaliand, South Lampung. It is in fact located in a narrow area between the ring road of Gunung Rajabasa and the sea. Most local visitors, either from Kalianda residents or from other districts of Lampung province come to this so-called Pantai Wartawan for family recreations. Some come in couples, and many others in groups of more than 4 people.

The so called Pantai wartawan (Journalist beach) used to be managed by local journalists in the hope that the beach will become one of tourist resorts in South Lampung.

At the side of foothill at Pantai Wartawan, there is a warm water spring that continuously steams hot water. This hot spring is actually an added value to Pantai Wartawan in addition to a spectacular view of the ocean.

Pantai Wartawan resort is always crowded on weekends. Lampung residents from all parts of Lampung province visit Wartawan beach just to sit around on the rocks along the beach. It seems that swimming is not safe for children as there are sharp and dangerous rocks under the water.

To get to Wartawan beach, visitors can hire motorcyclists as there are no public transportation to the beach area.

Seray Airport Is To Start Its Operation In Mid January 2013

The only regency that has an airport after South Lampung is Liwa. It is hoped that Seray Airport will begin its operation in January 2013. According to Tribun Lampung, Susi Airliner began its initial flight from Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport to Seray Airport in September 28th, 2011.

"We have proposed an initial flight operation in Seray, and thank God that the bidding for the airliner has been won by Susi Airliner," as quoted by Tribun Lampung. It is said that the initial flight operation is partly funded by APBN (National Budget).

According to Mukhlis, West Lampung Regent, the local government of Liwa is awaiting a contract agreement to be signed. If the mutual work agreement has been signed, the intial flight operation will begin. The routes to be covered will for the time being be flying from Fatmawati Airport, and Bengkulu to Seray, and then to Radin Inten II Airport in Bandar Lampung.

We hope Seray Airpot in West Lampung will make traveling a lot easier, thus enabling West Lampung to develop a lot faster.

Starting from December 29th, 2012, Royal Class DAMRI is to start operating. The destination to be covered is Bandar Lampung - Jakarta.. There will be more routes in the coming months.
With Royal Class that accomodates only 21 seats and is equipped with air conditioning, wifi internet connection, karoke, TV, and a minibar, which are not given in normal DAMRI bus services, it is hoped that travelers will feel satisfied. Consequently, if the service is satisfactory, more and more travellers will use Royal Class Damri.

According to Agus, President Director of DAMRI company, as quoted by www.frontroll.com that the bus fare from and to Jakarta - Bandar Lampugn is only Rp.165.000,--which is not much different to the usual Damri bus fare..

According to Tribun Lampung news issued on December 27th, 2012, for the first phase, Damri will operate 11 bus units. A short while later 6 units will be added.

The interior designs of Royal Class DAMRI bus are more like those found in an executive class airplane.

For Bandar Lampung residents who will travel to Jakarta, the following contact phone numbers can be used as follows:

The Sukarame Golf Course in Bandar Lampung has long been established in the New Order Era. The golf course is situated at the edge of a state-owned Rubber Plantation in Sukarame area or about 4 km form the main road of Sukarno Hatta.

Since the golf course is still the only one in Bandar Lampung, all golfers living in Lampung willy nilly have to go the Sukarame Golf Course. With many new buildings being constructed around the golf course, the golf course site is no longer as quiet as it used to be. Traffic to the area has also got very heavy. This is probably due to the existance of a state owned Islamic Institute (IAIN) and a few housing complexes around the golf course.

Not far away from the golf course, there will be a new university building for Technology Institute of Sumatera. And a new dual carriage way is at present time being constructed. Will the Sukarame Golf Course be moved else where because of the surrounding factor? I am afraid it won't simply because the location is already established.

Next to the golf course used to be a rubber plantation, which is now an open area for housing areas.

Hotel Nusantara: One of The Hotels in Bandar Lampung
