Carnival Discharge

Carnival Discharge
Acrylic on canvas

There once was a little baby elephant taken away from her home. She arrived at this place with tigers, lions, llamas, bears, horses and others of her kind. It was very colorful, but soon she learned of the pain that ensued. Little Sylvia grew to be beaten and her spirit was weakened, but her skin grew tough. There was an opportunity to escape and finally she found the courage to break free and leave the carnival. She is now happily wading in the pond with the sun rays beaming from the sky.

Dream

2011-01-11T15:25:00.002-05:00

Following up on my puppy dream! I was reminded that I didn't look up what it meant, which is funny because I usually do. So, I looked up the meaning of my dream and I'd like to share it with you all. Here it goes!!

Puppy

To see a puppy in your dream, symbolizes your playfulness and carefree nature. It also refers to a blossoming friendship. If you are taking care of a puppy, then it means that you are reliable and trustworthy. Others can depend on you, especially during difficult times.

To see a litter of newborn puppies in your dream, is indicative of the amount of time that an idea has been developing or will take to develop. Look to the number of puppies to give you that approximate amount of time.

Flight of Fancy

2011-01-06T16:08:00.000-05:00

Flight of Fancy, 2011
Acrylic/Latex on canvas
Abstract, 48 x 24 in.

Flight of Fancy is a dream I had last night. There was this beautiful, colorful Beagle puppy frolicking around in my grandmothers backyard with my puppies back home. I woke up with a huge smile on my face and an inspiration to paint what I saw in my dream. He is sleepy from running around in my head all night and so I let him rest on my feet. :)

Meditation

2011-01-02T18:05:00.000-05:00

Meditation is a piece I did today from a conversation I had last night about finding myself. I had a rough year in 2009 and it took alot out of me. From January up until August I had an absolutely terrible year from the choices I made. I thought I knew who I was. I lost my mind that year and I was reckless in a sense. I was lying in bed with Casey last night talking to him about that. I worry alot about everything and he suggested I look at meditating and trying to be happy with myself, by myself because in the end, we have to be happy with ourselves. So, this is a painting of my frustration of my mind constantly running while my body and soul are still attached and the title is the solution to that problem. Enjoy.

Max Liebermann

2011-01-02T15:33:00.000-05:00

Max Liebermann
Munich Beer Garden, 1884
Oil on canvas, 95 x 69 cm
Munich, Bayerische Staatsgemaldesammlungen, Neue Pinakothek

The painting shown here is one of Max Liebermann's. I really enjoyed looking at it for the sole reason of it's reminder that I used to go to renaissance festivals with my dad and I believe this piece of work resembled that time in a way. Beautiful painting.

The Artist In You

2010-12-31T01:07:00.000-05:00

I am SO excited right now. I just got my part of the TAIY Testimonial video down. Have a few tweeks and some video editing to do still. Need to get my family and friends to do a video with me too though. That'll be the tough part. Hope I can pull this off.

Lust

2010-12-29T02:23:00.001-05:00

I recently obtained three 4x2 canvas pieces from a family member. I decided to paint tonight and ended up with a painting called Lust.

Lust $125
Latex on canvas
4x2, 2010

Lust is an abstract latex painting on canvas. I was playing with colors and got my inspiration from a picture I have of my significant other. Finished December 29, 2010.

Edouard Manet

2010-12-28T21:45:00.002-05:00

"One can hardly call it chaste to place a young lady under the trees, between two students in berets and frock-8coats, with no more than the shade of the foliage to clothe her. Quite possibly an irrelevant point, however, it is not so much the composition itself but the intentions behind it which I deplore. ...Monsieur Manet aims to win fame by shocking the bourgeoisie... He has corrupted good taste through his love of the bizarre." -ERNEST CHESNEAU, 1864

Le Dejeuner sur l'herbe, 1863
Oil on canvas, 208 x 264 cm
Paris, Musee d'Orsay

Ernest Chesneau's observation and comment on Edouard Manet has me thinking. If Manet, or other artists, didn't thrive on shock value, would art have stayed stagnant? In my opinion, change is a wonderful thing. The ability to shock someone is a gift, even if it's gratuitously disgusting to you. Placing a thought in one's brain is simply the whole point of art, whether it be the subject matter or the mere aesthetics of the painting. You look at a piece of work and you can wonder how they've done it, what they were thinking, why they were thinking of that and what they were feeling at the time of completion. It baffles me that Ernest's comment was so harsh compared to how art is accepted in today's world. In comparison, art now has more variety/acceptance/originality/depth. Just as technology has changed, we've continued to grow and expand our minds. Wonder what the years will bring us.

Gifts

2010-12-27T18:43:00.000-05:00

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Did you get any good gifts? Spend time with family? I did and had alot of fun! I received a very cool gift from my boyfriends brother. It was a two series book of photography, sculpture, painting and more with a bunch of art history and pictures of art work. It's such a great gift that keeps on giving. I brought this one up first, because it relates to this art site but the ultimate gift was the one my aunt gave. My grandfather passed last year and I was very close to him. Before he passed, my aunt got a lock of his hair and the gift was for myself as well as my cousins, aunts, uncle and my mom. It's a cylinder that you can open (kind of like a locket) with a plastic baggy with strands of my grandfathers hair in it. I was very overwhelmed with sadness and happiness. I will cherish it forever as I will have a little piece of my grandfathers memory with me wherever I go. Again, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas filled with love and laughter. I know I did.

Christmas Gift

2010-12-21T19:50:00.000-05:00

My honey butt told me what my Christmas present was EARLY because it's getting here tomorrow! I am proud to announce that I have my very own PINK laptop! I am so excited, for one, because its pink. (My favorite color ever) AND TWO, because I can use it for my art. I have been working hard to keep my photos all in one place, organized and it will be nice for him too because he can use his laptop more often for his music. Tonight, I want to paint again. I saw more images from other artists and I find new inspiration to paint. I wish I could go to school for art to improve my skill. *le sigh*

Wonderland

2010-12-20T22:35:00.001-05:00

Just watched Alice in Wonderland again. What a wonderful movie! Now that I've seen it again it reminds me of how well I did on my costume for Halloween. Anyway, off topic. I was browsing on imagekind yesterday and saw a very talented artists page who did a gallery on Alice in Wonderland. I have to say it was quite marvelous and original. I can only hope to have such inspiration in the near future. We'll see what I cook up!

Peace, Love & Art!
