What Are You Watching...

I have ATT Uverse and while I have the 450 program with every channel, I still swear there is rarely anything on. So I also have Netflix. I love Netflix!! Recently a good friend told me about Longmire, a TV series that originally was on A+E and cancelled but rescued and picked up again by Netflix after the third season.

Longmire, is set in Wyoming (shot in New Mexico). I haven't been to Wyoming yet so I really couldn't tell you if it looks authentic or not. I will say that I've been to New Mexico several times and I've seen some beautiful places there but the locations they are using on Longmire are beyond spectacular.

Longmire is the last name of the small town sheriff, Walt (played by Robert Taylor). If you've wondered what Lou Diamond Phillips has been up to the past few years, he plays Longmire's best friend, Henry Standing Bear, a Cheyenne Indian and owner of the local tavern. In fact, the Cheyenne Nation plays a large integral part of the series.

I'm on Season 3 of 4 Seasons and I've actually found myself binge watching a show on Netflix for the first time. I never knew there could be so much drama on the high plains. Cowboys, Indians, and horses oh my!

The characters are so well thought out and written. Each one has his/her own underlying story and each episode you watch the interaction between the characters solving not only the main plot of the episode but dealing with their own issues/demons that lay in the background. If you're looking for special effects or animation, this is definitely not your show... but if you want good and refreshing drama with a beautiful background and very well written characters, Longmire is for you!

Demeter Stable Fragrance

For as long as I can remember, I've been in love with horses. When I walk into a barn, one whiff and the stress of the day is taken away. The mixture of horse, leather, hay, and poop (yes poop) is my aromatherapy. I always had a dream of bottling it up so I could have it with me everywhere... Imagine my absolute delight/surprise to find that Demeter has done it with their fragrance Stable! Truly Stable is a barn in a bottle!!

For the past few months, I've been recovering from surgery to repair a broken (shattered) collarbone (a titanium plate and 9 pins now hold me together) after being bucked off a horse. So under Dr.'s orders I've stayed out of the saddle (no full contact sports) until the bone heals.

Sadly, I'd really been forming a wonderful bond with Joe the young gelding we'd been working with so the timing totally sucked. I know, there's never a good time to break a bone is there? But anyone who's ridden or owned horses will tell you that the pleasure comes at a risk, apparently a high risk (cough, cough). So for now, I'm out of the saddle and away from the barn because - well it breaks my heart to just be there and not ride. Out of sight, out of mind, yeah right. I hope to find my way back to the saddle and barn again but for now I have a bottle of comfort sitting next to me whenever I need a little aromatherapy. Thank you Demeter!!

Summertime Blues

Summer is here!! It's in the high 80s here in LA and I'm hot (and not in a good way). I swear I have no idea how I ever lived in Texas and survived those brutally hot summer months. Thankfully those hot Texas summers are far behind me now. I honestly have no idea if I'm having hot flashes or it's just plain hot!

Do you remember Jean Nate the after bath splash? I used to love it back in the late 70s and early 80s, you know... before I discovered real perfume (Love's Baby Soft). Let me tell you, Jean Nate still rocks!! Chris told me that back in the day when he would mow his mom's yard she would bring him out a face cloth that had chilled Jean Nate on it and it would instantly cool him down. We decided to pick up a bottle for his mom for Mother's Day and one for me too. It really does cool me off.

I'm still mad at Bath and Body Works for discontinuing the fabulous Liquid Talc. Nothing has ever been as refreshing since. If you have any secret product out there that you know of, drop me a note to lisa@beautycafe.com and please share with me.
