SMOOTH SKIN SECRET - LOOFAH + EGG WHITES

Some celebs have been known to drop big bucks for facials and chemical peels. But that isn't the only path to a perfectly glowing face. Instead, use an ecoTOOLS™ Bamboo and Loofah Facial Buff to gently exfoliate the face. To keep fresh skin supple, create an egg white mask from one egg and a few drops of fresh lemon juice. Not only do the proteins in the egg white heal and restore moisture, but they also tighten pores. After just ten minutes, you will fell like you have a brand new face.

BONUS: Use the loofah and egg combo on extra dry spots like elbows and knees to ensure streak free sunless tans.

TOTAL COST: About $4.00
It's always exciting when Chanel launches a new collection. I know my friend Kari Schlegel will be at the Chanel counter the minute she reads this, a true beauty snob, she has snatched up every Chanel Beaute collection since high school! This Fall, Chanel is inspired by romantic city of Venice. As a city built on water, Venice was a source of great intrigue for Gabrielle Chanel. She saw it as simultaneously dramatic and fragile - qualities she herself possessed. With the imagination of the CHANEL Makeup Studio, Venice comes to life in a palette reflective of the city's shimmering facades and mosaics, and the sparkling aquatic colors of its lagoons. I love the new Gondola nail polish above right in a rich shade of red, very vampy and sexy!

The Gel Cream eye shadow quad is CHANEL's latest makeup innovation. It puts glowing new emphasis on the eyes with a gel-cream texture that blends from sheer to intense. The subtle luminous sheen has a surprisingly and decidedly sophisticated effect. $65 at Chanel.com (Jump for complete details)

LIPS: The CHANEL lip collection expands with a selection of rich, luxurious shades.

ROUGE ALLURE Luminous Satin Lip Colour arrives in Intuitive, a pinkish brown; Clandestine, a rich brick shade; Captive, a classic brown; Amusing, a rosewood tone; Comedia, a true rose; and Instinctive, a perfect pink nude. Lips glimmer with LÈVRES SCINTILLANTES Glossimer in Courtisane, a natural pink, and Arelequin, a glossy gold. Finally, define the mouth with LE CRAYON LÈVRES Precision Lip Definer in Praline d'Or, a golden-hued nude.

EYES: Create a subtle or more dramatic look with LES 4 OMBRES Quadra Eye Shadow in Murano, a palette with shades of moss, pink and seafoam, and green shimmer. The latest IRRÈELLE DUO Silky Eyeshadow Duo arrives in Acqua Alta, a pairing of white and grey shadows. Brows look perfectly defined with two new shades of LE CRAYON SOURCILS Precision Brow Definer, Blond Clair and Cendre Noir.

FACE: For the perfect finish, apply JOUES CONTRASTE Powder Blush in Fresque, a subtle peach shade, or LES TISSAGES DE CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Sienna, a gorgeous earthy bronze. Skin is luminous with POUDRE DOUCE Soft Pressed Powder in Pêche Caresse, a soft peach.

NAILS: CHANEL, the leader in nail colour trends, introduces two new shades of LE VERNIS Nail Colour: Intermezzo, a white pearl, and Gondola, a stunning maroon shimmer.

This is essential because even stores like Sephora sometimes carry out-of-date products. Just yesterday I was in the Sephora in the Flatiron-area in NYC buying some travel essentials for my 4th of July trip to Chicago when I noticed that the GO Smile set I picked-up expired last October! Eww! At least it clearly displayed the date. Why isn't there a law that requires all products to list an expiration date!? Luckily La Roche-Posay is always coming-out with new products to target various skin issues. Timed to summer when heat and sweat make many us break-out prone, they have a new line of products called Effaclar. First to cleanse they've got <a href="http://www.laroche-posay.us/_us/_en/consumer/catalog/ByType/Oily/effaclar-purifying-foaming-gel.htm"target="_blank">Effaclar Gel ($19.50) which is a foaming cleansing gel for acne-prone, oily/combination, and skin that is irritated by acne treatments (wish this was out when I was going through the trauma that was applying to college!). The cleanser effectively cleanses though it did leave my skin dry (it's also oil-free), so moisturizing after application will likely be necessary. Jump for more!

Cleansing can be followed by <a href="http://www.dermstore.com/product_Effaclar+Toner+Astringent+Lotion_7957.htm"target="_blank">La Roche-Posay Effaclar Toner ($19.50). Lastly they've got an acne treatment fluid, <a href="http://www.laroche-posay.us/_us/_en/consumer/catalog/ByType/Oily/effaclar-k-acne-treatment-fluid.htm"target="_blank">Effaclar K ($19.90) formulated specifically for adults to reduce blackheads, control breakout and improve skin texture (it combines LHA with salicylic acid).

She has the world's most beautiful and velvety skin and she told me her secret was a line called Motives cosmetics. I asked to be put in touch with the Creative Director, Loren Ridinger, and have hounded her ever since. Seriously, this line is really outstanding. From the Liquid to Powder mineral foundation to the award winning Pressed eye shadow palettes, I am really addicted! But the most exciting discovery is its Angled Eyeliner brush (for cat eye fanatics like myself). I have tried every eye liner brush out there, and always end up using angled brow brushes because not many companies make an angled eyeliner brush let alone a good one. You must try this, the best part is-- it's only $8.50! Less than a martini these days and how many things can you say that about!?!? At Motives Cosmetics.com Get one of the gel liners ($15.95) while you're at it, you just dip the brush in the pot and apply-- easy and mess free!
The Pressed Eye shadows are spectacular, you don't need much as the minerals are heavily pigmented. Here is what I used:

I have to preface this post by saying that there are incredible markdowns going on right now on Space NK products. Candles are on sale for less than $10 at their namesake locations, at Bloomingdale's, and online (they're not in a special sale section so just got to Space NK-branded product section and browse!). Space NK is discontinuing some items and re-packaging others hence these amazing markdowns (I just picked-up a few more new things at Bloomies -- they slashed prices by 75% and then a few days ago took an extra 50% off that price! I got bath soaps for $2, candles for $7.50 and body lotion for $5 -- all in original packaging!). Now from the old to the new. Space NK, started by beauty guru Nicky Kinnaird, has just launched a new range of everyday essentials all of which are free of parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, and silicone. The products come in a range of scents (Tomato Rhubarb, Mandarin Grapefruit, Gingered Woods, Patchouli Suede, Midnight Jasmine), as well as unfragranced ones. Each fragrance is target towards a specific part of the day and the price points are slightly more mild than Space NK-branded items. Note the candles, which are the highlight of the collection, are available at Space NK boutiques now and I've also seen them at the Space NK section at Bloomingdale's (though the official launch isn't till July 8 which is when they'll be available online). The rest of the collection is hitting this fall, but I thought I would highlight it now so you can plan your Space NK shopping accordingly -- it's definitely worth leaving some room in your budget for this line! Learn more after the jump!

Kinnaird suggests burning the Gingered Woods candle to wind down. For a little mystery she recommends the Pachouli Suede blend (my personal fave!), while enjoying a chilled bath.

Midnight Jasmine Candle ($30), Cocooning Body Lotion ($25), Drift Away Bath & Shower Gel ($22), and Midnight Milk Soak ($30)
Meant for spoiling and pampering before bedtime, Kinnaird suggests using the hydrating milk bath and cocooning body lotion, accompanied by the sensual Midnight Jasmine candle before calling it a night.

Japanese Wash Cloth ($30), Balancing Body Lotion ($25), Work it APD ($15), All Round Body Scrub ($30), Picture Perfect Facial Moisturizer ($30), Super Smooth Shave Cream ($20), Everlasting Lip Care ($15), Mighty Mitts Hand Cream ($22), and Party Feet Foot Cream ($25).
Unfragranced everyday essentials that polish, hydrate, nourish, and protect skin.

I am on a quest to try all the new liquid mineral make up on the market right now. It just feels so much better on my skin and I am less prone to break outs. Prescriptives is expanding its mineral portfolio and launching a liquid mineral makeup, All Skins Mineral Makeup. This will be my next mineral liquid foundation to test out. It's a longwearing liquid mineral makeup that is infused with vitamins, minerals and their exclusive R.E.C. (Radiance Emitting Crystals - a unique complex of Amethyst, Rose Quartz and Calcite to give skin a soft, luminous finish as if it were "glowing from within." ) to give skin extra luminosity. I'll report back to you once I've gotten my sample. I am impressed with the extensive choice in shades-- you're sure to find your exact match of this new longwearing liquid mineral makeup from Prescriptives with 18 shades! From the lightest to the darkest, I think they've got us covered! Check the shades out here, $32.50

This summer, splash into the latest trend: mermaid-like waves. This glamorous yet laid-back style is perfect for all summer occasions, whether you're lounging on the beach in the Hamptons or hitting the town in Manhattan. I love nothing more than Rapunzel like waves cascading down one side of the face-- it's the ultimate sex siren 'do! Milla Jovovich and Angelina Jolie look super hot with the side swept finger waves. I'm going to test this out myself and got some tips from Suki Duggan, owner of the Donsuki Townhouse Salon on the Upper East Side to DIY--

Suki suggests:
- Section hair into 1-2 inch pieces
- Rolling each section and pinning as you go. After the rollers have cooled, run a comb through your hair to get large, soft waves. A spritz of hairspray should hold the style for the day.

The line of bath, body, and face products is all about embracing aromatherapy and the benefits of the Dead Sea (their products remind me of a cross between Ahava and L'Occitane), and they've just come-out with a new organic line. I reserve Saturday mornings for beauty parties in my bathroom (and yes, I'm the only guest but I have enough fun for 100!) and I send my hubby off with our son to golf with a stern "I HAVE TO WORK PLEASE DO NO BOTHER ME FOR 3 HOURS". It's not my fault that my work is playing with beauty products but don't think it's not hard work-- applying make up precisely takes the skill of a steady hand and dedicated concentration :) This weekend I tested products from "Motives" by Loren Ridinger-- a custom formulated cosmetics line infused with antioxidants and vitamins that enhance a girl's beauty while nourishing her skin. Loren set out to create her own line after years of using hundreds of products that left her unsatisfied. The result is a high quality and revolutionary line of products that every woman, on any budget can enjoy. She sent me her favorite items and I reviewed them below in the order of my favorites (I am not a democracy and I don't have to be fair ;)

1. Liquid Powder Mineral Make Up- I am obsessed with this product and used it both Saturday and Sunday. What impressed me most was the finish-- the liquid texture is lightweight but the minute you blend in to the skin it becomes a velvety powder texture without any kind of residue nor cakeyness or dryness. I tested it by applying 4 coats and the finish remained flawless. I love it because you can reapply throughout the day! Usually you can not reapply liquid foundation once you have powdered up-- since it is a liquid to powder-- you can keep adding layers to it depending on coverage. A must have for quick touch ups after work if you have social events to attend! I used "Tender beige" and it looked like my skin and even in the brightest of sun light, you could not detect I had 4 layers of foundation on! Most mineral make up comes in messy loose powder versions that make it hard to control, this is by far the most amaaaaaaazing mineral make up, ever! You must try and I promise you will love! Order the Liquid Powder Foundation for $25 here. (Note: I pat layers of this foundation gently into my skin, do not rub as it dries to a powder finish and you don't want to rub it off. No need for sponge or blending, just pat it on until desired coverage!)

2. Full Coverage Photo Finish Powder: If you have oily skin or live in very hot weather, try this powder. It is designed to be used as a foundation and gives a full coverage. Again, I layered it yet it did not feel heavy! I used the Neutral medium and it gave a slightly heavier coverage than the liquid. I even used it over the liquid foundation just for fun and it still looked quite natural! Order powder here, $24.50.

Loren sent me "Bedroom Eyes" and I swear I was flirty all night with the hubby! I have brown eyes but I think it would really look pretty with blue eyes, too. It gives a soft shimmer to the lids and I applied it alone to give a wash of color which made it look really natural. Pressed eye shadow $12.50 here.

This is the best cleansing soap in the market and removes all traces of make up without drying the skin.
2. After 30+ days of use, my skin is not blue and does not show any signs of turning blue.
3. I no longer have any small 'white' heads on my forehead
4. Each tiny sample size lasted approximately 3 weeks which means the full size will last, like, a year!

I was also sent a sample of the COR eye cream which was very lightweight and ideal for day under make up. It wasn't as rich as I like my eye creams, however, so I won't be buying anymore of this. I do LOVE the soap and am going to purchase a full size soap when my little samples run out. (Note: Beauty Snob Heidi bought the entire line after our friend Chloe raved about it and she loves the soap, too. She did not like the creams.)

Vichy has just come-out with three new products: Aqualia Thermal Light Fortifying & Soothing 24Hr Hydrating Care ($27), Aqualia Thermal Mat Fortifying & Soothing 24Hr Hydrating Gel with Anti-Shine Effect ($25), and Normaderm Pro Mat Hydrating Care. I love Vichy because they're affordable, effective and trust-worthy (they're tied with <a href="http://www.laroche-posay.com/index.aspx"target="_blank">La Roche-Posay when it comes to my fave drugstore finds). I've never had a bad reaction to anything from Vichy (I have very sensitive, pale skin and am prone to redness), and all of their products are backed by a ton of research (they're actually the #1 selling skincare brand in European pharmacies). Their Normaderm line is great for summer when skin is especially sensitive and prone to breakouts and for those with very oily skin. Vichy researchers actually found a link between UV rays and oil production in skin, so they managed to find a formula with SPF coverage that inhibits oil production without leaving a white film or clogging pores. Called Ultra Mattifying Oil-Free Lotion ($21), it will be launching in August. It's basically the day-time version of Vichy Normaderm Night
($24), which I've been using on and off for months. The formulation is lightweight,
there is an instant matte and tightening effect, and it helps minimize
the size of pores. Jump for more!

For those whose main problem is skin dehydration, Aqualia Thermal Light Fortifying & Soothing 24Hr Hydrating Care and Aqualia Thermal Mat Fortifying & Soothing 24Hr Hydrating Gel with Anti-Shine Effect have been formulated to fight just that. Light is for women with normal to dry skin to correct dehydration (this works for those with very sensitive skin as well), while Mat is for normal to oily-skinned women that are looking for a mattifying effect while treating dehydration, and for combination skin with sensitive patches and shininess. I used Aqualia Thermal Light under <a href="http://www.laroche-posay.us/_us/_en/consumer/catalog/ByType/Dry/anthelios-sx-daily-moisturizer.htm"target="_blank">La Roche-Posay Anthelios (which I've been using since my dermatologist said it was the best sun-protection), and found the two to make a great combo. The La Roche-Posay cream is very "tough" it does not blend into the skin easily (it's not greasy at all), so without a moisturizing cream underneath my skin feels very dehydrated. Aqualia Light is light and easy to blend so it doesn't leave skin greasy and feeling prone to breaking-out even if you layer it.

It means makeup that's right for your skin," says Bobbi. The limited edition Nude Eye Palette ($60) features eye shadow duos in a sophisticated and universally flattering selection of shades and textures.

The eye shadow duos come in customizable 3 Pan Palette, which can be filled with your choice of any Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow or Blush shades.

Bobbi also introduces a new shade to her iconic Shimmer Brick collection- the Nude Shimmer Brick ($40). Featuring five pure pearl pigments in pink, gold, bronze, beige, and caramel, the shades are designed to be blended together to give all skin tones a soft nude, lit from within glow.

In addition the Nudes Collection includes Caviar Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($21) her best-selling liner now in a rich, deep brown shade, and four new shades of Bobbi's popular Creamy Lip Color ($22) that compliment the Nude Eye Palette and Nude Shimmer Brick.

All of these products will be available from www.bobbibrown.com and Bobbi Brown counters July 2009.

I was sent a bottle of Davines Momo moisturizing shampoo and a jar of the Momo revitalizing conditioner two months ago from a PR firm (at my request). I have not posted my review until today because I finally finished the products last week (as you can see!). To be honest I really didn't start using this until 4 weeks ago when the weather got warm and I started swimming with my son (almost daily). My hair became the texture of dried noodles and it lost its lustre (I do not dye my hair though am considering it as I have several gray hairs now-- yikes!). I also felt like I was losing hair though my stylist assures me swimming does not cause baldness. After 4 weeks of using Davines Momo exclusively, however, my hair is soft and shiny no matter how many hours I spend in the pool holding a 4 year old up so he can pretend he is superman. Will I buy more? Heck yeah! I just ordered more from Beauty.com-- Momo Shampoo $20 and Momo conditioner $20 here.

I highly recommend this to everyone who spends time in the pool/sun/beach this summer, even if you have oily scalp! I know you will love it as much as Madonna (had to throw that in there) and I do!

Beauty snob note to PR firms: *(Please contact us before sending unsolicited items to save your clients time, money and to guarantee a review!)

It has been at Henri Bendel since January though I have to say, despite the fact that I'm in the store often, I've never noticed it so I was looking forward to learning about it an event she hosted at the store a few days ago. Dr. Wexler is a pretty fabulous looking older woman - her skin is flawlessly smooth (though when I spoke to her I could tell that, that was in no small part due to botox), and she obviously has great taste because she was wearing a Rodarte necklace:) I have to say though I'm always weary of trying skincare lines started by dermatologist -- I've found myself in one too many doctor's offices where the MD is pushing his/her line of products/pressuring me to get some treatment that I know I don't need (seriously, am I the only one who has a problem with going into a doctor's office and seeing framed tear-outs from Cosmo magazine where the MD was featured??). I always worry that the ingredients in these lines will be too potent for my 20-something year old skin. It did not help alleviate my fears that when Dr. Wexler introduced her
line and new products, most of the time was spent discussing treatments
-- botox, microdermabrasion, restylane. Wexler said that while her
products are highly effective they (like every other product), can only do
so much -- I applaud her for being so honest! More after the jump!

Her line is relatively inexpensive (starts at $16 and the most expensive thing I saw was $60), especially given that it's sold at Henri Bendel (does the packaging emind anyone else of Clarins!?). I don't think this line is a match for me personally, but if you're considering botox or something of that nature it's definitely worth looking into before going for needles and knives. The line has won a number of awards including ones from Allure Magazine and CEW. Bess is a very young makeup expert (he's only 23!), but he has already worked with stars like Jennifer Aniston, Salma Hayek, Kate Moss, Cate Blanchett, Ashley Olsen, Elizabeth Hurley, and Brooke Shields! Ever since Marc Jacobs' last runway show I've had the 80s flashback look on my mind so I asked if Bess could give us some tips on how to get an updated version of the 80s look and here's what he had to say--
"Let everyone know you're with the band by pairing a bold red lip with super smokey eyes. I love Eternal Passion lipstick ($29) on the pout and Night ($29) to dress the eyes for the ultimate rocker-chic look."

When I asked him for a tip on getting the smokey eye look he said --

"Apply Night eyeshadow along your top and bottom lashes and blend outwards for a sexy smokey effect. Smudge with Luxury Eye Brush ($38) to look like a pro." I think the tip of pairing the smokey eyes with a crimson red is spot-on. What do you think -- Will you be going 80s this summer?
