Review: Avon Supershock Mascara

Happy fathers' day to all the pops out there! :)

It makes me very sad to think that I did not manage to post entries since classes started. Now I admire student bloggers who find time to blog despite the load!
Anyway, on to the review! :)

I saw this mascara being used by the Pixiwoo sisters and Tanya Burr a few times on their makeup tutorials. My old mascara was already dying and begging for a replacement so, when I saw this on an Avon brochure on sale, I did not think twice to order.

The shade is in black brown, but actually it just looks like black. Haha. The wand has tiny little spikes which are supposed to separate your lashes evenly.

This mascara is a great find. I got it for a reasonable price of 239, but I do not think I'd purchase this at P450, almost at par with Maybelline ones. It is not my favorite however. I have very very thin lashes and I want a lot of volume. This would look amazing on lashes that are already thick and long and just need a little bit off accentuation.

San San Gel Eyeliner Review - Beauty Theories

Hi ladies!
I prefer gel eyeliners than pencil or liquid ones. I find them easier to work with, and generally lasts longer than other liners I have tried. It is also the most versatile, because you can change the thickness of the line you want to create by simply changing brushes.
Being somebody on a college budget, I searched for a gel eyeliner that is affordable, but works.
I found this eyeliner and I want to share what I think about it!

The packaging looks super weird, but very purposeful. There is a detachable brush attached to the cap. The brush is actually very useful, I like using it better than angled brushes for gel liners.

You can actually reattach the cap upside down to get this. Haha. It works pretty well either way.

Using an eyeliner brush, put some gel eyeliner and start drawing a line from the inner eye keeping as close to the lash line as possible. Then draw the line right to the end of the eye.

The San san gel eyeliner is a very great find. This is my go to liner when I have to perform because it stays on my lids no matter how much sweat I produce. The only downside to this product is that you have to be very careful not to rub your eyes, or else you'll have something like that of a panda. This is not very easy to remove with just water or facial wash, you have to use makeup remover.

It is almost June, and I cannot wait to go back to school! :)

I live in Malolos City, and unfortunately, there aren't too many malls in here. Most of the skincare, hair care, and make up products I use cannot be availed any where near my place. My boarding house in Quezon City is luckily near malls, so I usually have to be there to be able to purchase the stuff I need. I had no summer classes so I stayed in Malolos, which meant I had no way of repurchasing my empty products.

When I saw Ms. Aya of codenameaya.com recently blogged about her product empties, I thought, why not share mine too before I throw them away? :)

I categorized them into three chunks, hair, skin care, and make up! Read on to know more about the products above!

A. Hair

Ascience Shine Therapy Shampoo

I have emptied a lot of shampoo bottles, but I have never found a shampoo worth sharing more than this. This is the best shampoo I have tried ever! My hair stopped developing more split ends, it smelled good, and it looked so healthy. This was pasalubong from my Aunt working in Taiwan, so unfortunately, there is no way I can repurchase immediately. I have to wait for Tita! :)

Hair Treats Hair Spa in Macadamia

I love hair treats hair spa! My sister, my mom and I have actually emptied about three of this, and I think we have tried every variant. The effect of the hair spa do not differ from variant to variant in my opinion, all of them gave me smooth, straight, healthy looking hair. I like this the best because of its smell! It has sweet, chocolate marshmallow-like scent! A must try for everybody who wants do spare the salon and do hair spa themselves! :)

You can get this at Watsons. It's regular price is P229 I have purchased six of these, and they had it on sale, buy 1 take 1, everytime I did.

B. Skin Care

A Bonne Spa Milk Salt

This is another product I love because of the scent! I could die smelling this! Kidding. It smells like milk, but a lot nicer. I used this on my face and it actually did clear my small pimple scars. Whitening wise, I don't think it did an amazing job. I ditched Asian Secrets for this scrub and I don't think it is worth it. I'd go back to Asian Secrets. :D But I'd still probably repurchase it because I like the smell so much!

Pond's Pure White Deep Cleansing Facial Foam

I cannot say this is my favorite facial wash because this is the only facial wash that I have tried. (I've tried my friend's Cetaphil once and I like Pond's better). I think there is very little chance I'd switch. It is affordable and it works wonders.

St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub

Need I say more? This is a scrub almost everybody loves! Ever since I used this, I have been getting compliments about my skin. I have recommended this to a ton of friends, and I've seen their skin improve myself. I will repurchase this foreverrr.

You can find this at leading department stores and Watsons. :)

Celeteque Dermoscience Hydration Facial Moisturizer

This is the only moisturizer I have tried that did not make my face itch. I've tried some variants of Olay and Pond's, they brighten the skin but I feel itchy afterwards. I have dry skin and it moisturizes well. This is my second tube. :)

Belo Sun Expert Transparent Mist

Strange name right. Now I wonder if there is colored mist. Haha. This had been my swimming best friend. I shared this with my sisters and my mom (and a lot of friends who forgot/did not bring sun block). This is our second bottle. It works. I had minimal tanning. :)

Jergens Lotion in Musk
I forgot to include this on the second picture, sorry. I am addicted to the smell of musk. I like this lotion because it not greasy, and it does its job well. This was another pasalubong, so I don't really know where to repurchase this here in the Philippines. :( Please tell me if you do! Or suggest alternatives. :)

C. Make up

Missha The Style Creamy Matte Lip Rouge

My mom bought this for herself but... *grins*. I love it! It is very creamy but it dries matte, and the color is very pretty-pinkish nude. This stays for hours, stays eve after I eat. However, there are things I don't like about it. Its packaging isn't sturdy enough. The lipstick melts, and dang, it is messy. And its price. I think it is too much for a college girl to repurchase. :( Please recommend in the comments section what pink lipstick you think I must try next! :)

Ever Bilena Ever Original Eyebrow Pencil

Yup, that little thing is an eyebrow pencil. I like it so much that I sharpened it until there is no way I can sharpen it further. I would definitely repurchase this, I like the shade, the longevity, the texture, and how it matches my hair color. The only thing that keeps me from buying this again is my stash of eyebrow pencils. I think I still have enough so I try my best not to buy again for the meantime.

E.L.F Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder

Everybody raved about this, and I don't think I need to say more! Haha. I think I am going to look for more affordable alternatives before repurchasing this. Please suggest! :)

Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream
I've mentioned this on my previous posts. My mom repurchase this, because I cannot afford it! I think the one I'm using is already our third tube. I forgot to include this on the picture above again, sorry. You check the first picture if you wish to. :)

Get the Look: Affordable Summer-Inspired Makeup

Happy Monday!
Summer is almost over here in the Philippines. Rains are actually occurring more and more often and I love it! I wanted to make the most out of the remaining days of summer that's why I'm writing an affordable summer inspired makeup tutorial. Rock this trendy last minute look and seize summer! Read on to know how! :)

1. Prep the skin.
Apply moisturizer of choice. I used the Celeteque Dermoscience Hydration Facial Moisturizer on Aira's skin because she has dry skin.

2. Apply your base.
You might want to opt for a BB cream rather than a regular foundation. BB creams are lighter than foundation and usually sits on the skin better, which is a plus since the weather here in the Philippines may make the foundation move throughout the day. I used the Missha Perfect Cover BB cream in No. 23. It also has SPF which is helpful specially during summer. This BB cream is quite pricey but there are a lot of affordable BB creams sold in the local market.

3. Fill in the brows.
Brows frame the face and I personally think a makeup look isn't complete without a little bit of brow definition. I used a dark matte brown eye shadow to fill in my sister's brows. Then I used the E.L.F Wet Lash and Brow Clear Mascara to keep the hairs in place.

4. Prime the eyes.

If you don't have a primer, you can always use concealer as a base. I've seen a lot of beauty gurus do this trick, and swore it worked just as fine. Applying primer would help the eye shadow pop out. I used the E.L.F All Cover Stick in Spice.

5. Keep the eye shadow natural looking.
Keep it natural because we are going to add a pop of color at the lower lashline later. The attention should just be on the color, so it is best to go natural with the shadows. To achieve this, I used the E.L.F 32 Eye Shadow palette in Everyday. I used a champagne color as a wash on the lid and then defined the crease slightly with matte brown eye shadows.

6. Apply your liner and mascara. Line the lower lash line with a bright color of choice.

Get your usual liner and mascara done. I winged my sister's eye liner slightly. I used the Heng Fang Liquid Eye liner. This eyeliner is very affordable and stays on for hours! I think I bought it for only P25 and it is worth every centavo! :D

I used the Avon Super Shock Max mascara, and then lined her bottom lash line using an angled brush (Marrionaud N38 Eyes) and a bright, bold purple from the same palette mentioned above.

7. Apply blush.

Enhance your natural flush by using a peachy pink blush. I used an Avon Blush in Blooming Peach.

8. Apply a bright pink lipstick.

Bright lips are very trendy this season. To achieve that, I used the Excel Paris Matte Lip Cream (503). Some people do not like the texture of this cream because it is too dry, but in my opinion, with a good lip balm, it is tolerable. For the tag price of just P50, I don't think this is bad! :)

My Top 5 Youtube Makeup Gurus - Beauty Theories

Hello readers!

I love Youtube. I think if I were to choose between Twitter or Youtube, or maybe even Facebook or Youtube, I'd choose Youtube. Haha.
I am obsessed with watching beauty videos a looot. I learn a lot from them, I learn so much about makeup- how to apply stuff, what colors to choose, what particular products work best for something. And! Youtube keeps me updated on the trends. I never thought I'd use Youtube this way, because before I got hooked up by beauty videos, I thought Youtube was just a site where you can watch the viral videos on the news, the celebrity scandals (oops), or just where you can upload you and your friends' silly videos.

Having ~~said~~ written those, I want to share to you my favorite channels to watch, beauty channels in particular. I think this might also help the girls out there who are just starting to watch beauty videos and would like to have channel recommendations. :) And maybe help even the girls who just want more videos on their feeds! :) Just a little disclaimer, this is my personal opinion so my top gurus might definitely not be the same as yours. 1. Pixiwoo

These girls are the best. Pixiwoo is a channel by British sisters, Samantha Chapman, and Nichola Chapman. They are pro makeup artists, and they are just so talented. They film in-depth makeup tutorials. Their videos' length are about 10 minutes on average. They film from start to finish, they would start with no makeup no, unlike other gurus who have their foundation and/or brows done before they film. They mostly do celebrity makeup tutorials, and they sometimes use the exact same products used by the celebrity they are getting makeup inspiration from. 2. Michelle Phan

I guess we all know her. Michelle is a young, very talented, very inspiring, and very successful girl. She is the makeup millionaire! Haha. I have learned a lot from her, specially the simple things about makeup that we tend to forget. What makes her stand out among the other youtube gurus is the heart that she puts into her work. Every single video would prove that. You would really see how much effort and passion she puts into her craft. She does not upload videos very often but it is very understandable considering the quality of her videos. She posts almost everything and anything about beauty- makeup, nails, skincare, hair and even fashion. Great, great girl.

3. Tanya Burr

Gorgeous Tanya is another British makeup Youtube guru. She is also a professional makeup artist. Tanya is very, very talented. Her makeup tutorials are always amazing. Like the pixiwoo sisters, Tanya does her entire makeup on cam, has little cuts, and almost no fast forwards. Her username actually used to be pixi2woo. She is the fiance of Jim Chapman, brother of the pixiwoo sisters. She used to be Sam and Nic''s tutorial model before she decided to create her own Youtube channel. She mostly films celebrity makeup tutorials, but she also uploads hauls, vlogs, and favorite videos. I honestly feel bad to rank her number 3 because I think she is too good to be just number 3, but I have to rank so.. :(

4. Ana Victorino

Ana Patricia Victorino is a Filipina makeup artist. Among the Filipina YT gurus on Youtube, she is my favorite. She is already very blessed with great talent at makeup at a young age. What makes her stand out is her great videography skills. Its like she was really meant to be a Youtube guru. Check her out so you'd see. :D She is often compared to Michele Phan because of her talent and because of her videos' quality. :)

She's no Katy Perry, she is, Emma Pickles, another British girl ( I don't know why I love Brits a lot) which many consider as the makeup magician. She has a very beautiful face, perfect canvas for her perfect skills. She can transform herself to a lot of other looks. She even made her face look like 2d pop art. Happy Monday readers!
I love applying makeup on other people. Actually, I think I like doing it on other people more than on myself. I feel very happy whenever I see them look prettier, and I feel very overwhelmed when they thank me and say I've done a good job. I am not a pro makeup artist, actually, I have done makeup only on around 20-25 people, but I'd love to do more in the future.

Today I would like to share how all these began. It was May 2012 when my Aunt asked for company to do Yhana, my 7-year old cousin's makeup for Flores De Mayo. If you are not from the Philippines, Flores is a feast celebrated every year in May all over my country. This celebration is most known for sagalas, women (sometimes accompanied by men), who walk the long roads of their baranggays, all dolled up in a gown and of course, with make up. I was very excited when my Aunt told me this, and I immediately searches make up looks on Youtube. I didn't get the chance to do Yhana's makeup that time. I tried to, but it was just... crappy. Haha.

I continued to watch makeup videos on Youtube. I remember first subscribing on Noe Mae the famous Filipina Makeup guru. I enjoyed watching her very much and I was very fascinated on the magic of make up. She mentioned Michelle Phan, the best and cutest make up guru I know, in one of her videos, and that is when I became addicted. :D

My first "client" was my sister. It was December 2012 and it was her prom.

I remember us praying Ama Namin (Our Father) over and over again so that I won't hurt her brows when 'cause I'll try to shave them! Hahaha. And so that it would look great! I did okay I think! :) This is the very first time I dared to do a makeover on someone. I think I did well but if I were to do this makeup look again, maybe I'd change her foundation, (I think I used the Ever Bilena pro finish Liquid Foundation), put a little bit more blush, put a brighter lip color, and put the lashes closer to her lashline. cx

Since then, I did her makeup whenever she had to attend to something that need a bit more glam.

She posted her prom pictures on facebook and since then too, little by little, people have been asking me to do their makeup. I regret that I did not take pictures of all of them. :(

My next major makeup "gig" was my choirmate/friend, Cathlene's debut. This is where I started to earn! :) ₱.₱

Really pretty, right? This was taken after the program that's why she's kind of haggard. A lot of people said she looked a lot like Kathryn Bernardo during here debut. :) (Proud MUA. ;>)

This made me gain more clients. I did makeup mostly for my friends' prom nights, or college nights, and these would make me earn bucks. I used most of the money to invest on quality products, to improve skills.

It's Flores de Mayo again and guess what, this time got the chance to do Yhana's makeup! :D

It is now exactly one year since I started to enter the world of makeup and I feel really happy I did, because it gives me a different kind of joy. Make up actually helped me get through a heartbreak I went through last year. It kept me busy and happy whenever I want to escape the difficulty I was in.

Youtube videos and of course, blogs helped me a lot to learn about what I know about makeup now. This is the ultimate reason why I wanted to blog. I wanted to bring back the help bloggers gave me by helping out girls out there who are also passionate about makeup like me. I know I am no pro, but I'll try to keep sharing 'til I am!

I love filling in my brows. I never leave my house without doing this, even if I only have very little time left. I own a variety of brow products, but whenever I have to hurry, I grab my Etude House Easy Brow Pencil because it is very easy to use and goes well with a lot of looks.

Packaging. The pencil is housed in a very unique way!
The brush that comes with it is very helpful. This is why I this is my go to brow pencil.
The color is a match! I believe there are 3 more shades available.
Longevity. This guy stays for hoursss! I never retouch.
Price. Cheap! Only P128.00 for an amazing product.
Pigmentation is really great. The color is "buildable" as well. You can go light or dark and strong!

WHAT I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT IT

The pencil came off the brush the first time I opened it, but I managed to glue it. I used glue for falsies haha. But other than that, there is none at all! :)

NOTD: Caronia Blueberry - Beauty Theories

Happy Saturday readers!
Yesterday I decided to clean my nails and I felt I wanted to paint polish again. I finished cleaning and trimming and filing but I have yet not decided what nail polish I would wear. I wanted to paint on something trendy, something that would remind me of summer. I went through my stash and chose between my pastels, but I seemed to get kind of tired of them.
I saw my sister's Caronia nail polish, a bright, fun, unique blue. Perfect! :)

ONE COAT

TWO COATS

After applying the second coat, I kind of wished I didn't. Haha. One coat is already opaque enough for my liking.

I applied top coat and that's it!

My Everyday Makeup Routine - Beauty theories

Hello readers! This is my first post and I thought, why not write about my everyday makeup routine? I guess this is the safest topic to talk about since I have only started blogging.

Since it is summer, I have not been applying makeup on an everyday basis because most of the time I stay home. During days when I have to run errands or visit a friend, this is the makeup that I wear. This is also basically the same look I wear during school days.

1. Brows
Etude House Easy Brow Pencil in No. 1 (Dark Brown)

I personally prefer doing the brows first. I don't know why. I think filling the brows is a very important step, and I feel naked when I don't do this. (You know what I mean) When I am in a hurry, I just do this and I'd be ready to go.

The etude house is my current favorite as of the moment, but I usually interchange it with other pencils, depending on the look I want to go for. When I want my brows to be a little darker than usual, I use my Nichido Minerals Precise Eye Pencil in Chestnut. When I want a lighter, more "obvious" brows, I use my Ever Bilena Ever Original Eye pencil in Light Brown which is another favorite.
I sometimes use a matte brown eyeshadow to fill my brows as well. I like having a lot of options and I like exploring what product would suit my brows best.

2. Foundation/ BB Cream
Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream in No. 23

I prefer bb cream than foundation because it feels lighter and it looks more like skin, but with a little bit of coverage. I specifically like this bb cream from Missha. Its coverage is just light, enough to even out some redness and cover some blemishes on my skin. It has spf 42 which I think is perfect for my everyday in school. I apply this using my e.l.f. powder brush or my fingers. I dot it all over my face and then blend.

3. Concealer
E.L.F All Cover Stick in Spice

I don't always put concealer but when I do, I use this. It is peachy that's why it can easily out the blue hues under my eyes. In my experience, it does not crease, too. I just use my fingers to dab a little bit on the areas I want to conceal and then blend.

4. Eyeliner
Careline Color Pencil (Dark Brown)

Yep, the spooly came off. -______-

I use this just to slightly define my upper lashline. Black eyeliner is a bit too much for everyday makeup for me. This Careline pencil fades through the day that's why I'm still in search for a better brown eyeliner. I think I'm going to get the San San waterproof eyeliner pen. What do you think? :)
I use the Marrionaud angled brush (N38) to help me perfect my line.

5. Mascara
Avon Super Shock Max

Mascara! This is one of my most favorite make up items. I have very thin, sparse, short lashes, and I always like them defined. I just recently purchased this mascara so I'm still in the process of judging whether I like it or not.

6. Lips
Maybelline Baby Lips in Smoothing Cherry + Avon Simply Pretty Color Bliss Lipstick in Daring Red

Since I want to achieve a natural look, I just put lip balm for moisture (baby lips is excellent for this), and then dab a bit of this Avon lippie on my lips. I looks very natural. I never skip this because most of the time I look pale when I don't. When I want a longer lasting, slightly more intense lip color, I use my Avon lip and cheek tint. (It might look a little unfamiliar because I peeled of the plastic around it. :D )

7. Blush/Bronzer

I seldom include blush on my everyday makeup routine. When ever I try to put blush on, I feel overdone and I don't know why. :(
I like bronzer/contour more than blush and I'd rather wear it to school than wear blush. (I'm wierd).
I ran out of my favorite bronzer which is the infamous e.l.f. contouring blush and bronzing powder. I use the Nichido True Colors Collection Powder Blush in Cool Rum in the mean time.

8. Setting powder

I then set everything with a setting powder. I like this powder because it stays put, and it keeps me matte but not flat. I use my E.l.f Complexion brush with this. My only problem with this is that I think it is too heavy for everyday use. I'm still on a hunt for a good setting everyday powder and I would appreciate it very much if you comment and recommend some that you want to suggest. :) I have tried the 4u2 BB powder but I did not like it. :( I become shinier than ever.. maybe even the shiniest of them all (haha) when I used that.
