It's common for people to think that there are just some things in life that do not require instruction manuals. Well, of course many things don't need instructions. However, hair is unfortunately not one of these things. Just like any art or science, people can improve by following the right steps.

Does Washing Damage Hair?

Washing can cause hair damage, if it's not done properly. You see, some physical properties of human hair are altered when water is introduced to the equation. Therefore, washing hair improperly in water can cause catastrophic physical damage.

If you want to avoid hair damage while simply washing your beautiful locks, then start with the most basic thing: the temperature of the water. The big question: which is safer with hair, cold water or warm water? The answer is, quite simply, warm water. Wet your hair with water heated to a few degrees above room temperature.

After wetting your hair, learn the right way of applying the shampoo unto your hair. Most folks just squeeze the bottle of shampoo unto the hair and rub vigorously so the shampoo would lather on the scalp. As you may have already noticed, this is approach is a bit too abrasive.

Therefore, what you can do is to lather the shampoo on your hands and use your fingers to spread the shampoo unto your scalp. Remember, you're cleaning both your hair and your scalp. If you leave the scalp out from the equation, more than half of the accumulated dirt would remain on your head.

Things to Avoid!

Some people (women especially) try to make a bun out of their hair when they're lathering and rinsing it. This is a very bad practice and should be abandoned immediately. You're running the risk of damaging the hair shafts and needlessly breaking clumps of hair.

Instead of making a bun, why not let your hair hang freely whichever direction it wishes? This is applicable especially to rinsing. Rinsing is the part of a shower when all the shampoo (including the dirt and grime) are washed off and drained. You won't be able to do this properly if you keep locking most of your hair strands together. Give your hair the breathing space it requires during rinsing.

How to Apply Hair Conditioners?

Some people feel that conditioners are like shampoos: you only need them for a couple of seconds before rinsing them off. This approach is not applicable to conditioners. If you're using a specialized conditioner, make sure that you let it stay on your hair for at least five minutes.

Sure, your hair might feel softer a few seconds of conditioning, but the process of moisturizing the hair shafts is something else. You need to give your hair and the chemical compounds time. Moisturizing is actually very tricky; but you can overcome this obstacle by leaving your hair in its conditioning' state while you clean your body.

If you're finding it hard to wait around for the conditioner to be absorbed, then we suggest that you shampoo first before working your body. That way, you'd be rinsing off your hair the same time you're rinsing your body.

The difference in quality between the various fish oil supplements on the market today means it is essential to find the best omega3 fish oils possible to ensure you get the full benefits and none of the health risks.

With poor quality oils you may be unwittingly introducing substances into your body that you do not want like mercury, PCBs or even increasing your load of free radicals. Without the best omega3 you may also only be getting minimal anti-inflammatory benefits or even none at all.

The problem with inflammation in the body is that you don't know you have it until it's too late and it comes out in the form of a heart attack or stroke.

Recently many products were withdrawn from sale in the UK due to high levels of contamination showing just how real these risks can be.

The best omega3 oils will have undergone molecular distillation to remove these impurities. This process separates out the toxins leaving behind pure and safe oil which can contain up to three times more omega3 than before.

The next factor to look for is the amount of the good omega3 fatty acid DHA which is responsible for the many health benefits. Many contain more of the other important but less useful one called EPA so it is vital to check the label or website carefully.

I would recommend a ratio of 2:1 DHA to EPA to ensure you will not be robbed of the many rewards this amazing oil has to offer including the prevention of heart attacks and strokes, improved brain functioning, memory and mental well-being and lower cholesterol to name a few.

Regarding price, I have seen that it is no indication of best omega3!

Some of the most expensive oils that cost over $40 for a month's supply contain much less DHA and have not even been distilled whereas some costing less than $20 are some of the best available, so bear this in mind when you choose.

So, now you know about the best omega3 fish oil supplements and how to find them, you can confidently go about selecting the very best and start enjoying all the many amazing benefits they bring.

Acai berries are small, round, black-purple fruits known to have amazing nutritional properties. Its appearance is similar to that of a grape, because it grows in bunches. It has a single large seed and a thin or minimal amount of pulp. Members of the scientific community have referred to these small berry as the most nutritious and powerful food in the world.

Acai berry products available in our local health food or gourmet stores usually come in liquid preparation in the form of juices and energy drinks, or solid preparation as in pills and powdered tea. We must develop the good habit of reading the labels to know the concentration or potency of the Acai berry is contained in each product. Care must also be taken that we are purchasing the best Acai berry products from certified sources. Some unscrupulous individuals and companies engage in selling low quality Acai berry products containing diluted or only a fraction of the pure Acai berry extract. This practice is very rampant these days as these individuals feed off the Acai berry hype.

What are the Benefits of the Best Acai Berry Products?

Since the health benefits of Acai berry has come to worldwide attention, there has been a boom of Acai berry supplements in the health and wellness industry. Various products claiming to be derived from this super berry has been subject to public scrutiny. All of them promise to give the Acai berry health advantages but only a selected and legitimate few can deliver the results promised. A multitude of Acai berry products continue to mushroom; hence, there is a need to be educated on what claims are true and what are too-good-to-be-true. As a consumer, it is our primary responsibility to learn as much as we can before jumping into the bandwagon.

As research studies show, Acai berries are abundant sources of antioxidants, fiber and heart-friendly fatty acids. Fresh Acai berries are not widely distributed because their healthy components diminish quickly as soon as they have been plucked from the palm tree. Still, making the fruit a part of our daily diet is good for our health. Products made from Acai berries can help us lower blood cholesterol, lose excess weight and boost our energy and immune system.

Acai berry is known to contain anthocyanins and has anti-inflammatory properties that prevent allergic reactions, reverse deficits in the neurological system caused by aging, and bring back capillary function in diabetic patients. It can also prevent atherosclerosis or deposition of fat plaques that causes narrowing of the arteries. In addition, anthocyanins in Acai berry retard tumor growth.

The top Acai berry products and supplements available in the market today are commercially prepared. These were already subjected to treatments such as pasteurization or freeze drying but all inherent nutrients are intact. These products provide the following health benefits: promote weight loss, improve digestion, increase vitality, support healthy immune system, enhance mental and visual acuity, improve rest and sleep, promote excretion of toxins, improve blood circulation, and maintain a healthy heart.

Grape seed extracts are industrial derivatives from whole grape seeds. There has been a special discussion on the health benefits of the anti-oxidants, the red wine polyphenols, anthrocyanidins andresveratrol.

Grape seeds are rich in a polyphenol called as resveratrol which may disrupt the growth and development of the cancer cells and as a result leads to the phenomenon of apoptosis,. Resveratrol is a very potent grape seeds extract. This is among one of the variety of potential chemopreventive effects.

The components of grape seed may also be active against the deadly HIV by hindering virus replication as well as expression of a virus.

Several studies and researches on grape seed extract likeresveratrol ultra has shown that there can be other possible anti-diseaseeffects like as in the laboratory models of the following:

Wound healing -grape seed proanthocyanidins induced vascular endothelial growth factor and accelerated healing of injured skin in mice.

Tooth decay-seed phenolics may inhibit oral sugar metabolism and retard growth of certain bacteria causing dental caries.

Relieving osteoporosis– grape seed extracts enhanced bone density and strength in experimental animals.

Skin cancer– grape seed proanthocyanidins decreased tumor numbers and reduced the malignancy of papillomas.

Ultraviolet damage to skin — dietary proanthocyanidins may protect against carcinogenesis and provide supplementation for sunscreen protection.

Recently, about four clinical trials are under the pipeline to determine the impact of grape seed extracts on human breast cancer, blood estrogen levels in post-menopausal conditions, and coronary artery disease.

Dosage of Resveratrol Grape extracts:

Generally, the grape seed extracts, resveratrol is consumed as capsules or tablets commonly comprising of 50 mg or 100 mg quantity. Grape Seed Extracts like Resveratrol have a long term advantage because they can help in the prevention of wrinkles and hence anti-aging process. This also makes sure that your skin does not become dead.

When you are shopping for ultra refined fish oil, you will see that supplements come in a variety of forms and concentrations. Some manufacturers add other ingredients to "enhance" the health benefits. They might even offer a free sample. But, before you fall for the advertising gimmicks, take a moment to learn about the things that are really important. First, let's talk about those "free" samples.

In order to get a free sample, you must sign up for auto-ship programs. The manufacturers say that you can cancel at any time, but customers have found it difficult to contact the company.

The discounts that the manufacturers offer are not really significant. The supplements are overpriced in the first place. You will see that if you shop around.

One of the more expensive supplements contains the highly touted acai berry, even though the benefits of that ingredient are questionable, at best. The best ultra refined fish oil supplements stand alone, meaning that they are beneficial when taken alone or in combination with a good multi-nutritional supplement. There is no real need to add other ingredients.

Most all of the liquid supplements contain added flavors. This manufacturer says that the added flavor improves the taste and makes it easier to take. The problem is that the fragrance can mask the smell of rancid oils.

Fish oils have a very short shelf-life. They can quickly become rancid. If there are no added flavorings, then you can easily identify this, because they start to smell like rotten fish.

Taking rancid oils can make you sick, but there are other risks as well. Rancid oils are oxidized, which means they contain free radicals.

Ideally, ultra refined fish oil would neutralize some free radicals, because it has some antioxidant activity. There is reason to believe that the natural triglycerides have a higher degree of antioxidant activity, because they may provide some selenium or other antioxidants.

However, the natural triglycerides are prone to contain contaminants. If a manufacturer provides the natural triglyceride form, they should be able to prove that the oils have been tested for and are free of mercury, lead and cancer-causing dioxins.

There is also reason to believe that the natural triglyceride form has more anti-inflammatory activity than ultra refined fish oil that has been molecularly distilled. Again, this may be due to the presence of selenium or some other factor that the heat of molecular distillation removes.

The only disadvantage of the natural triglycerides is lower omega3 concentration. Some manufacturers have found a solution to that problem. They add the natural triglyceride form to a concentrated ester. That way, each capsule still provides at least 500mg of omega3 fatty acids.

You need to look carefully at what the supplement facts on the label are actually saying. Some labels list the amount of omega3s that are provided in two capsules. That's misleading.

Now that you have the facts about ultra refined fish oil, it should be easy to tell the difference between the advertising gimmicks and a valid health claim. Take your time and don't be misled.

I cannot imagine having no massage oils during my Swedish massage, deep tissue massage and sports massage therapy sessions in 4th Street, Downtown St. Petersburg or in Tampa 33607. Even when I had pregnancy massage before, massage oil helped moisturize my skin and prevented stretch marks. Im glad that a wide variety of massage oils are available in St. Petersburg.

Pure natural oils are the best massage oils to use. They each have different characteristics, though.

Almond oil seems to be everyones favorite, and is reasonably priced to boot. It is pale yellow with a sweet and nutty aroma, and is quickly absorbed into the skin, eliminating the greasy feeling usually brought by other oils. It also does not irritate most peoples skin, instead soothing, nourishing, moisturizing and softening it. It should be avoided by people who are allergic to nuts, though.

Apricot kernel oil looks like almond oil, is also easily absorbed and is not greasy. It moisturizes, nourishes and revitalizes dehydrated skin, and soothes inflammation, too. With high oleic acid and linoleic acid content, it particularly benefits sensitive skin and mature skin. Furthermore, it has high vitamin E content, extending its shelf life. This is the best alternative to almond oil. People who are allergic to nuts can safely use it. It is a little more expensive, though.

Jojoba oil is not really oil but a wax. It comes from the seed of the jojoba plant. It is also largely non-irritating and has a long shelf life, as well. An added advantage from jojoba oil is its antibacterial properties. This can be beneficial to people suffering from chest and back acne. Jojoba oil is more expensive than almond oil, though, and is too quickly absorbed that it will have to be reapplied often during a massage session. One solution is to combine it with other oils.

Fractionated coconut oil is light and non-greasy because it contains only medium-chain triglycerides, with the long-chain triglycerides removed. Its shelf life is very long and it is as inexpensive as almond oil. People like the fact that it does not stain sheets.

Sunflower oil is light and non-greasy, as well. It contains linoleic acid, palmitic acid and stearic acid which are essential fatty acids needed by healthy skin. This oil quickly goes rancid, though. Add vitamin E oil to extend its shelf life.

Other oils used for massage include avocado oil, cocoa butter, grapeseed oil, kukui nut oil, shea butter and wheat germ oil.

Avocado oil is heavy and is often mixed with lighter massage oils. It could irritate people allergic to latex and it costs twice as much as almond oil.

Cocoa butter is even heavier, turning solid at room temperature. It is also blended with lighter oils but is known for its aroma which resembles chocolate.

Grapeseed oilis is silky and non-greasy, and is almost odorless. Since its extraction involves solvent, though, it is considered inferior.

Kukui nut oil from Hawaii is light and non-greasy even on oily skin.

Shea butter is another very heavy oil that solidifies at room temperature and needs to be combined with lighter oils. People with latex allergies should avoid it.

Wheat germ oil has very high vitamin E content and is blended with lighter oils, too.

Sometimes, these massage oils are used as carrier oils. Drops of various aromatherapy oils are added, depending on the skin of the client. Aromatherapy oils should be discussed in a different article altogether, though.

Make sure that you maximize your enjoyment of massage therapy and its benefits by having the right massage oil. Ask for it from your massage spa in St. Pete or shop around 4th Street, Downtown St. Petersburg for the perfect choice.

Omega3 fish oil should contain DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid), EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DPA (Docosapentaenoic acid). The amount of each of those fatty acids should be listed on the label. Each one is beneficial, but the most important is DHA.

DHA is a 22 carbon bond long chained essential fatty acid. It is essential for the growth and functional development of the brain in infants and is required for maintenance of normal brain function in adults. Low levels of DHA in the bloodstream have been associated with conditions like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, depression and aggressive behavior.

Increased intake of DHA has been shown to improve learning ability, ability to concentrate and reduces feelings of depression. Studies concerning the benefit for protecting the brain from the ravages of Alzheimer's disease are currently ongoing. Alzheimer's is a degenerative disease of the brain that causes memory loss, dementia and eventually kills.

DHA omega3 fish oil has a positive effect on diseases such as hypertension (high blood pressure), arthritis, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), type II or adult-onset diabetes and some types of cancer. It reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke and blood clots.

DHA has good anti-inflammatory activity and helps to modulate immune system function. There are benefits for people that suffer from eczema, psoriasis, acne, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, inflammatory bowel diseases and any condition in which inflammation plays a role. Since inflammation is one of the causes of cellular aging, you might say that DHA-rich omega3 fish oil has anti-aging activity.

Both DHA and EPA have proven benefits for improving levels of HDL (good) cholesterol and lowering total triglyceride levels. One study compared the benefits of DHA to that of EPA. The DHA group had a 26% decrease in blood triglycerides while the EPA group showed a decrease of 21%.

The human body can easily convert DHA to EPA, by removing two carbon bonds. The reverse is not true. In order to convert from EPA to DHA, the body would need to "add" two carbon bonds. That is not easily accomplished.

DPA is a lesser known omega3, although research is being conducted. Currently, we believe that it contributes to overall cardiovascular health, because it is present in high quantities in seal oil, a favored food of native Inuit peoples, who have a low incidence of cardiovascular disease, despite a diet high in fat.

Once you verify that the omega3 fish oil you are about to buy contains all of the essential fatty acids, find out what steps the manufacturer takes to insure purity and freshness. Molecular distillation is a popular choice, but it may also reduce the anti-inflammatory activity. Some recent evidence indicates that.

Some oils are naturally free of contaminants like mercury and PCBs. The manufacturer can verify that and prove it to consumers by posting an independent laboratory analysis on the company website.

With the popularity of omega3 fish oil as a dietary supplement, there has been an influx of new brand names. Your best bet is to buy online. The department store brands simply cannot be trusted.

Before you buy a fish oil concentrate, it is important to learn what steps the manufacturer takes to insure purity and freshness. It is not possible to be "too" careful. Some of the supplements on the market are simply a waste of money, but others could actually be bad for your health.

In an independent laboratory analysis, traces of the banned pesticide DDT and the banned chemicals PCBs were found in a popular supplement known as Omega-Pure. Obviously, it isn't that pure. Both of those chemicals are listed by the US EPA as probable human carcinogens.

From a strictly environmental standpoint, the fishing practices used by the company are hazardous to the ecosystem. They use vacuums to bring in thousands of tons of a species known as menhaden. It is a filter fish, crucial to places like the Chesapeake Bay. In 2007, at the time that the laboratory analysis was conducted, the company was the largest producer of omega3 fish oil concentrate in the United States.

The Environmental Defense Fund has created a list of the best choices for supplementation and the worst ones. While these supplements are generally recognized as safe, there are few regulations concerning contamination or oxidation. Adherence to standards for purity and freshness is strictly voluntary. In most cases, it is the less expensive supplements that are on the "worst" list.

Of the 75 companies surveyed by the Environmental Defense Fund, more than a third of them returned incomplete data or failed to adhere to the standards set by the Council for Responsible Nutrition. The standards set by the council are not as high as those set by individual companies, but at least, it is a starting point.

You can usually identify the best quality fish oil concentrate by visiting the manufacturer's website. They should post a copy of a certificate of analysis, conducted by an independent laboratory. They should list the name of the laboratory that conducted the analysis and when it comes to impurities the report should say "not detected".

There will be some level of oxidation in any supplement, but the level should be as low as possible. Oxidized oils contain free radicals and cause fishy-tasting burps. Basically, the oils are spoiled when they are encapsulated.

The supplements that are a simple waste of money are those that do not provide large amounts of omega3 fatty acids. A fish oil concentrate might contain a lot or a little. The manufacturers are not required to list the amount of omega3s that are present in the product. Nor are they required to list individual omega3s like DHA.

DHA is one of the most studied omega3 fatty acids. It is important for the health of the brain and the eyes. It has the highest degree of triglyceride reduction, which is beneficial to the heart. It has the most anti-inflammatory activity and it may reduce the risk of many age-related diseases.

You can only be confident about taking a fish oil concentrate if you take the time to do a little research about the manufacturer. The best companies proudly display their standards for purity, freshness and omega3 content. The worst ones appeal to you with a low price.

Why Atlantic Cod Fish Oils Are a Poor Source of Omega 3’s

Don't buy cod fish oil to get your omega3s. There are much better choices, today. This article covers why using the Atlantic Cod as a source of omega3s is a bad idea.

The North Atlantic is heavily polluted with mercury, PCBs and dioxins. Mercury poisoning has occurred due to eating fish contaminated with it. Since it is in the water, it is in the fish.

The Atlantic Cod and similar species feed on smaller fish. Because of this, the concentration of contaminants increases over the course of the fish's life. Adults would have a higher concentration of contaminants and their livers would be particularly contaminated, because the liver is the dumping ground for heavy metals.

Most cod fish oil is advertised as cod-liver oil, but it is actually derived from the entire body. A large market for fish meal exists. It is used in animal feed and to fortify certain foods. In order to make the meal, the fishes are ground up and the oils are removed. So, what you actually have is a byproduct of fish-meal production.

From there, the oils will need to be distilled and refined. The act of distillation reduces contaminants, but also reduces the nutritional value. While heavy metals are easily removed with the process, chemical contaminants like PCBs and dioxins may still be present. Manufacturers are not required to test each batch for contamination.

But, assuming that the oils have been purified, there is still a risk associated with cod fish oil. It contains retinol, the animal form of vitamin A.

Retinol is toxic at high doses. It causes birth defects. Regular intake of excessive amounts of vitamin A is associated with osteoporosis and bone fractures. Vitamin A competes with vitamin D for absorption and it interacts with parathyroid hormone which regulates calcium absorption. It has been estimated that 75% of people in developed countries take in more than the recommended daily allowance of retinol on a regular basis.

If vitamin A supplementation is desirable, it is best to take beta-carotene, the vegetable form. Beta-carotene is non-toxic. The body converts it on an as-needed basis to retinol. It is not possible to get too much beta-carotene in the diet.

From an environmental standpoint, taking cod fish oil is not recommended because of over-fishing. The popularity of specific species as food sources has rendered their populations unsustainable. Depletion of one population often affects other populations that feed on it, as well as the entire underwater ecosystem. People don't often realize how much life on earth depends on life in the oceans.

Right now, the best choices for supplement manufacturers are species such as anchovy and hoki. They are small, reproduce quickly and are low on the food chain. They feed, to a great extent, on sea algae, with is rich in DHA, an important omega3 fatty acid.

The manufacturer should guarantee that their products are free of contaminants and rich in omega3 fatty acids. So, that's why you shouldn't buy cod fish oil. Spread the word and save the species.
