Make-up wise: I always wear a light coat of foundation from "B" (sister shop to Lush), blush (Lancome), Mac eyeliner, Lancome black mascara, black liquid eyeliner (by "blinc" - the very best after years of research! ) and usually my Dior red lipstick

I don’t really bother with my hair, I hardly brush it let alone style the mop; however there is one product that I love.

Looking grotty with Tesco shoppers, I ventured into the white and clean world of Space NK to treat myself to a bottle of Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray.

I am a beach girl at heart; primary school days ended with parents picking us up with buckets and spades in their arms. Nothing beats a day ending watching the sun set over Welsh sea, and I always loved being wrapped up in a towel with salty, matted locks, my hair never looked cooler. And that is still true. My face shape doesn’t warrant poker straight, tussled and tossled is when my hair looks best.

I have tried many texturising hair products and Bumble in Bumble is the only one that truly gives the authentic day-on-a-beach look without making your hair as stiff as cardboard.

At £16 it has to be a treat, but with the alternative being a £40, 5hr train journey back to Wales and Broad Haven beach it has got to be worth it. It’s just a shame that I am dying of flu currently; mole eyes and a red nose don’t look hot, even with beach fabulous hair.

I exfoliate once a week with Kirsty Mcleod’s Clarifying Clay Exfoliator, it has fine clay particles which I think are much more efficient than the bigger, slightly scratchy ones. In the morning I wash my face with the Dr Alkaitis cleanser and most of the time just put Ila Face Oil all over my face neck and back of my hands to moisturise (the smell is gorgeous so I don’t need a perfume).

After the shower I love the Korres Fig Body Butter as it smells lovely and the moisturiser lasts all day. When I wake up looking like the last chicken in Sainsbury’s I slap on a bit of the Rodial Brazilian Tan, which is lovely.

SHARE YOUR BEST BEAUTY TIP:
The best way to hide a hangover is with the 3 Custom Colour Clarifying pencil. It is flesh coloured and you draw it across your lower eyelid shelf and it hides the redness and makes you look more awake and younger. I never did understand that fashion for putting white liner there that just makes one look a bit loopy!

Generally people not born with great classical beauty but who work brilliantly and subtly with what they have like Jennifer Anniston. I mean Angelina Jolie got it easy, no real beauty talent needed there!!

COSMOPOLITAN BEAUTY AWARDS

We attended the Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards last week and were thrilled to meet lots of beauty movers and shakers, Alexis Inge from Cult Beauty among them, and she agreed to take part in our "Beauty Minute" interview. The ultimate prize winners were YSL Touche Eclat (not a shocker, especially since most of the women in the room looked as if they were wearing it) for "Classic Award" and L'Oreal Paris Derma Genesis Cellular-Youth Nurturing Skincare (the longest product name in history) for Beauty Breakthrough Award.

I was a little surprised to see that the classic brands going stronger than ever and doing a great job in keeping up with the market and ahead of the trends. For example, the Best Colour-Rich Lipstick winner was the Givency Rouge Interdit, and the Reader's Choice (Readers Kiss of Approval) for Ultimate Lipgloss was the Lancome Juicy Tubes. For Best Foundation, Chanel was the winner with the impeccable Chanel Mat Lumiere Long Lasting Makeup. All this goes to show that the younger brands have a long way to go still, they were not featured throughout as I would have expected. Is the beauty business still a game only for the big and powerful? Where are the little "gem discoveries"? Where are the up-and-coming brands? They are not winning awards, not yet anyway...

In the hair category I was happy to see some of my favorites. The Kerastase line, which I have been a fan of for a long time since their products seem to be the only ones to overpower my hair's reluctance to behave sensibly. Kerastase got the award for the Best Frizz-Controller with Kerastase Creme d'huile Oleo-Curl, and Best leave-in treatment went to Kerastase Noctogenist (which I still have to try...)

I am a self-confessed nail polish junkie. From a young age I have rarely been without a coat of something swashed upon each nail. I used to hit the chemist after Primary school and stock up on 50p polish in the most garish colours possible; orange, lime green, yellow, baby blue…my nails have seen it all.

Now my collection has reduced significantly and I have gone over to the dark side. I like to wear my nails short and black; I constantly get taunted for being a goth but I consider black a classy and chic colour. My current obsession is Chanel. At £14.50 a bottle it is pricey, but unlike cheaper brands it stays looking beautiful for up to a week and goes on streak free.

Apart from my ‘Black Satin’ I do own some colour. I picked up a vibrant coral and electric blue from Sephora whilst in Barcelona, the juicy colours were too tempting to leave on the shelf! And sources at Barry M have revealed that colour is hot this summer; bright colours look great with a tan and add interest to any outfit.

If you are too timid to adorn your hands with neon flashes, simply go down to your toe nails. On a night out I noticed that a couple of my friends had gone for the brights and the colour totally pulled together their entire look. This blue looks fabulous with the leopard print heel and red adds another dimension to the gladiator sandal; an easy way to change your look.

Festival Beauty

It could be argued that there are more pressing matters to deal with at a festival than beauty, namely finding one’s tent or avoiding catching something nasty from a portaloo - however there is no need to leave the make-up bag at home as there are some super products that will withstand the rock, roll and mud.

A tinted moisturiser should be packed into every hiking sack; coverage without caking they are easy to apply and look fresh and natural. My choice Benefit YouRebel now comes in a two shades and has an SPF 15, which is essential for the outdoors girl - red noses are not a good look on anyone.

Abandon mascara and instead invest in a good crayon eyeliner, Dior Backstage Make-up does an excellent waterproof black that comes with a handy sponge applicator. Smudge on and don’t bother removing at night for ultimate rock chic.

Finish the look with a slick of tinted lip-balm; Mac Tendertone Lipbalm is available in a variety of colours and will soothe weather beaten lips with a delicious hint of shiny colour.

Walking around Carnaby Street today I came across this girl, who I think has a great look. The longest lashes I've ever seen (I should have asked which brand), and the smudged glossy lipstick gave her a very fresh, sweet glow. She has the kind of face that can take a lot of makeup without looking overdone. The lips are not pink nor red, they are the perfect hue!

Two trends that I have definitely picked up... You either have strong eyes or strong lips, but seldom the two go together for SS09. Mary Kate does the strong eyes very well, and this backstage photo shows the strong, bright lips that are everywhere at the moment.

Today I want to talk about these two looks. Posh is not someone I would hold in the highest regard when it comes to makeup but I am loving the nude, glossy lips in this photo!

And Gwyneth looks fabulous, here eyes look amazing in the cover of V! the colours look so rich and I think this look is powerful and extremely mmodern. I am not sure if a brunette could pull it off, but it looks fabulous on G!

Mascara that peels off...

It seems that the trend right now is mascara that peels off... Fuitybeauty mentioned the Clinique version, which looked like a little insect legs on her sink when removed... Loréal has a version too, the New Double Extension Beauty Tubes. I have tried eyeliners that peel off, but having this technology in mascara is an excellent thing... I don't wear that much mascara because it's so hard to remove and this solves it!

YSL's lips were deep black this AW08/09, the colour of choice for his clothes as well,and lovely Lily Allen has embraced the look with gusto. It suits her! I don't think black lips suit a lot of people, and they are not a colour that can be worn to just any event. but sometimes, if you are young and your skin is very pale and your hair very dark, you may get away with it...

Barry M just sent an email around promoting their new eyeliner pens. I love the bright colours! I recently became a fan of eyeliner pens because they are really easy to apply and easy to remove. I have been using a Clarins pen and when it dries, I can just peel it off, which I love! I will have to test these and let you know more later...

I think it's no secret that I am a big fan of Alexa Chung's look. She is so classic, yet she manages to inject effortless cool into anything she wears. Her makeup is always charming and she is full of that Hoxton "je ne sais quoi"...

I came across this pic at ELLEUK.com where I enjoyed reading about what Alexa has in her makeup bag...

I was especially amused to read that her favorite mascara is Great Lash mascara, £4.99 by Maybelline (which can be found at Boots). This item seems out of place next to brands such as La Prairie, but what have we learned about makeup from so many beauty experts out there? That price doesn't mean much when it comes to makeup. So many formulas are exactly the same, repackaged in different ways... If you have any favorites that fall under the £5 bracket, let us know!

The Hard Candy Look with Madonna

I was just thinking how Madonna's new look for her Hard Candy CD is so different and striking (the amazingly smooth pale skin, the very thin and pale eyebrows, the enhanced eyes)! I was trying to figure out how she does it and found a great explanation in BellaSugar takes from www.drownedmadonna.com (below):

FACE: Begin by prepping your face with a serum, moisturizer, and eye cream. Then add a primer and medium-coverage firming foundation such as Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup. Finish with a creamy concealer and an eye brightener. Tip: use a cosmetic sponge to ensure that everything is well blended.

CHEEKS: Cheeks should have only a smidgen of bronzer to the areas of your face that are naturally kissed by the sun. Use a gentle hand and then apply a peachy-pink blush such as The Balm Hot Mama to the apples of your cheeks, following the natural contour of your cheekbones. For a radiant glow, add a liquid luminizer to your forehead, tip of your nose, and the top of cheekbones steering clear of the tiny wrinkles just under your eyes.

EYES: Sweep your favorite champagne eye shadow all over the lid and with a windshield-wiping motion, apply a copper color (such as Korres 22S Orange) in the crease. Line your upper and lower lashes (heavier on the top) with a golden black liner such as Nars Night Clubbing and then apply two coats of mascara. Line the inside of your eyes with a white liner. If you feel your lashes look a little wimpy, feel free to add a few lash pieces to the outer corners of your eyes for added fullness. (Trim them so that they blend in better.)

LIPS: Apply a pale semifrosted pink lipstick such as Heidi Klum's Very Sexy Perfect Lipstick in Heidi and then sweep a golden-pink lip gloss like Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect Lip Gloss in Jersey Pink on top. Rock on Madonna fans.
