Stories are very powerful to include in your training because when you relate them to learning points, your participants will remember them long after the session is over. For example...

Do you know the story of the rocks and the jar? It's been around for years.

In this story, a professor fills a large empty mayonnaise jar with large rocks. When he asked the students, "Is the jar full?," they replied, "Yes."

So the professor poured small pebbles into the jar which filled the spaces between the rocks. The professor then asked the students again, "Is the jar full?" Again, they said, "Yes."

The professor then poured sand into the jar, which filled the remaining spaces of the jar.

The professor explained to his class, "That jar is your life, and the large rocks are the important things. The pebbles are only just less important and the sand represents the 'small stuff' in your life.

"If I had placed the sand and pebbles in first there would have been no room for the large rocks.

"It is the same with your life. Take care of the large rocks first. The rest is just -small stuff-."

--------------------------
Creating Your Stories
-------------------------
If you are creating a story to use in a training, try to use dialogue, as shown in the example above, because it will make your story come alive.

Use personal stories whenever they are appropriate, because they are unique so your participants will not have heard them before. And... you won't forget the story when you are telling it, because you experienced it. What's more, your teaching point will make more of an impact.

Most important, make sure your stories are relevant to the training content.

For example, the above story can be used when doing a training about time management and setting priorities.

-------------------------
Introducing the........
Designing Training for Fun and Results Self-Study Course

-------------------------

Obviously, there is a whole lot more to designing a program than just what's listed above, and that is why "Adding Games and Activities to Your Training" is Lesson 7 in our -Designing Training for Fun and Results Self Study- This lesson includes story telling.

The eight lessons teach the steps and strategies necessary to design highly effective employee training.

Learn how this Self-Study course can solve your most frustrating training problems. Go to:
http://bit.ly/DesignEmployeeTraining

----------------------------------------
As a bonus...
This course has been Pre-Approved for CEU credit.
----------------------------------------
The Design Training for Fun and Results Self-Study Course has been approved for CEU credits from HRCI and PMI.

Now you can earn your CEU's easily with our new program that you can do at your own pace.

Don't do another training without learning these simple employee training design strategies that will help you keep your employees energized, focused, and performing at their very best... and the results - increased employee productivity and more positive attitudes.

Learn more at:
http://bit.ly/DesignEmployeeTraining

Does procrastination cause trouble in your life? Have you lost jobs, missed appointments, and maybe even ruined relationships, because of your tendency to procrastinate?

You know, admitting you have a problem is the first step towards your recovery.

Honestly, don't you wish there was Procrastinators Anonymous? You could go and talk to other procrastinators, work a 12 step program and develop into someone who consistently finishes projects on time.

Seriously though, a little knowledge is powerful and it may help you to know that you procrastinate to avoid tension. If you are overwhelmed, insecure about a project, too detail oriented, or just plain bored with a task, your habit of relieving the tension is to avoid the task all together.

Unfortunately, that creates a whole different reason to be tense. So what can you do?

One thing you can do is plan in reverse.

Many people set goals but don't have a plan. Start by thinking of what you want your outcome to be, then work your way backwards.

Ask yourself, "What needs to happen just before completion?"

Then, "What needs to happen before that?"

Go all the way back to the present moment. By doing this, you are automatically creating a plan. The key is that you are telling yourself ahead of time that it is all in small parts.
This may not cure you of procrastination, but it's a great start. This technique is one of several effective ways for you and your employees to stop procrastinating.

Procrastination is so damaging that...

"Stop Procrastinating, Now!" is one of the 13 essential tools in the Employee Success Toolkit.

I reward the teacher who tells me the answer first with a $5 gift card to Sonic, McDonald's, etc.

Thank you for giving me these questions weekly so I do not have to find some myself.
--

You can do this, too. It's easy because every week in our newsletter we have a trivia question. Or... you can collect the trivia and have a Quiz Day Luncheon where you give prizes for answers to trivia questions.
