added to the back downspout, during some heavy rains we get some water coming up the floor drain. &nbsp;Most of the time it's small, nothing much but some dirt and stuff coming up. &nbsp;But after the mother of all storms this summer, we just got sick of dealing with it anymore and called in a few "professionals". <br /> <br /> Since I am the PM at work, I get to be the PM at home too and call out the contractors for bidding. &nbsp;That's always such fun. &nbsp;I get a range of quotes and a lot of&nbsp;proposals&nbsp;for half-assed fixes but generally like when someone returns calls and actually knows what the problem is and the proper way to fix it. <br /> <br /> The proper way to fix issues with an old house is to fix them in a way that you don't potentially have the problem again. &nbsp;It is not running some hoses down the driveway. &nbsp;It's not snaking with a big snake only to have to snake in 6 months again. &nbsp;It is not paying for someone to do that and add a clean out and &nbsp;not recommend replacing the pipe while having the ground open. &nbsp; It is not giving the answer "ooooh I don't know about that" when you ask about laying a new pipe. &nbsp; So after getting a few quotes, I have one guy who gave the right answer. &nbsp;If it needs snaked and it's old, it should be replaced. &nbsp;<br /> <br /> The work was scheduled and that's when the project had what we call scope creep. &nbsp;Originally the plan was to replace where a known blockage was in the front yard, put a clean out T in and go to the wall of the house. &nbsp;Originally it didn't seem that UNDER the house was very bad. &nbsp;Unfortunately it was worse than expected and it too needed to be done. <br /> <br /> When I came home from work that day, just like in the Money Pit, it looked It was so wrong I am surprised the house didn't burn down.<br /> Attic and wall insulation (BEST. THING. EVER!)<br /> Painted exterior and fixed rotten exterior parts. <br /> New garage. <br /> Painted all 3 bedrooms. Fixed all the weights in the windows. New window treatments.<br /> All new electrical fixtures on the 2nd floor.<br /> Lighted closets. (Best...thing....ever, after the insulation)<br /> Minor updates to the bathroom. Still needs a new tub/shower/floor.<br /> Wood flooring on second floor and both staircases refinished.<br /> Landscaping.<br /> <br /> Up next:<br /> New sewer pipe to house and partial fence. This year.<br /> Finish the hall and staircase painting.<br /> <br /> Yep I think I bought my house twice already.<br /> <br /> Up next in a few:<br /> Kitchen gut and re-do<br /> Bathroom finish.<br /> Add a 2nd bath. Maybe a 3rd in the basement.<br /> Add a&nbsp;sun porch&nbsp;over the kitchen.<br /> LR redo. Have you ever been to the HOTR? It's hard to describe the HOTR to anyone who hasn't been there.
