From Oslo, Norway, Serena-Maneesh released their self-titled debut album six years after forming in 2005 on local label HoneyMilk. They subsequently released an expanded version around the world the following year to much praise…

In between their debut and the forthcoming follow-up, the band released SM Backwards (2008), a two-disc compilation of the band’s early and hard-to-find material dating from 1999 to 2003. Their 4AD debut will be the first new material from the band in five years and more news on this will follow in the coming weeks.

FEBRUARY 2010 UK TOUR ANNOUNCED

Vampire Weekend are pleased to announce details of a UK tour for February 2010. The band, who will release their second album Contra in the US on January 12th on XL Recordings, are set to embark on an eight date tour which starts on February 7th at the Cambridge Corn Exchange.

Tickets for all shows go on sale at 9am on Friday November 6th.

In February of this year, 4AD released a critically acclaimed charity album called Dark Was The Night, the proceeds of which benefit AIDS organizations around the world through The Red Hot Organization. The album marked the 20th release in the Red Hot series and also marked the 20th anniversary of the organization’s existence.

It is with great pride that Martin Mills, the Chairman of The Beggars Group of Labels, recently presented a check to The Red Hot Organization for £423,212.00, which at press time is equivalent to $668.357.52 US dollars. This is just the first check, and is for the sales period of the first half of 2009.

Martin Mills states “Aaron and Bryce pulled together a wonderful collection of artists, songs and performances that perfectly encapsulates these times and really makes Dark Was The Night into an 'album' - a labor of love that has created this amazing and very tangible result !”

Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National produced the double album, and John Carlin, the founder of the Red Hot Organization, was the executive producer. John said the following about the proceeds and how they will help. “The current economic crisis has put many worthy AIDS charities at great risk, so this money could not have come at a better time.  With a few carefully targeted grants, we will be able to save the life of charitable organizations that help save the lives of people around the world affected by AIDS and HIV. Dark Was The Night encapsulated the spirit and creativity of a new generation of musicians whose work struck a chord and got people to actually purchase the album and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight AIDS.”

Dark Was The Night contains 32 exclusive tracks by an unbelievably talented roster of artists, including Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Cat Power, The Decemberists, Dirty Projectors + David Byrne, Feist, Grizzly Bear, My Morning Jacket, The New Pornographers, Spoon, and Sufjan Stevens - to name just a few.

Dark Was The Night was a long time in the making, and the result of a lot of hard work and generosity from a long list of supporters. Aaron Dessner sums everyone’s feelings up very well. "We want to thank all of the artists and everyone at 4AD again for helping us make Dark Was The Night happen. We also want to thank everyone who has bought this record -- your donations amount to a very significant contribution to Red Hot's mission fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS.
