The Moon is the astronomical body closest to us and, therefore, she has a profound influence upon us. The highest energy occurs at the Full Moon and, therefore, this is the most powerful time for magical workings. The New Moon is the next most powerful time for Magic.

Waxing—the moon is “growing” in size.
Waning—the moon is “shrinking” in size.

NEW/DARK MOON

Both names are often interchangeable when you're talking about the moon at totality. However, while there is still a waning crescent, it is more appropriate to call it the Dark Moon, and when there's a waxing crescent, it is the New Moon.
NEW/DARK MOON MAGICK
New Moon workings can be done from the day of the new moon to three-and-a-half days after. The new moon is for growth: starting new ventures, new beginnings. Also: love and romance, health or job hunting.

WAXING MOON MAGICK
From seven to fourteen days after the new moon. The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or health.

FULL MOON MAGICK
From fourteen to seventeen-and-a-half days after the new moon. Prime time for rituals for prophecy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healing for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams.

WANING MOON MAGICK
From three-and-a-half to ten-and-a-half days after the full moon.The waning moon is used for banishing magick, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity.

DARK MOON MAGICK
From ten-and-a-half to fourteen days after the full moon. The dark moon is a time for ridding oneself of bad habits, Binding spells, for exploring our darkest recesses and understanding our angers and passions. Also, bringing justice to bear.

KARMA

KARMA: A Sanskrit word that means "action." Sometimes you might see the Pali spelling, kamma, which means the same thing. In Buddhism, karma has a more specific meaning, which is volitional or willful action. Things we choose to do or say or think set karma into motion. The law of karma is a law of cause and effect.

Sometimes Westerners use the word karma to mean the result of karma. For example, someone might say John lost his job because "that's his karma." However, as Buddhists use the word, karma is the action, not the result. The effects of karma are spoken of as the "fruits" or the "result" of karma.

What You Do Is What Happens to You

When we seem stuck in old, destructive patterns, it may not be the karma of the past that's causing us to be stuck. If we're stuck, it's more likely that we're re-creating the same old patterns with our present thoughts and attitudes. To change our karma, and change our lives, we have to change our minds. Zen teacher John Daido Loori said, "Cause and effect are one thing. And what is that one thing? You. That’s why what you do and what happens to you are the same thing."

Certainly the karma of the past impacts your present life, but change is always possible.

No Judge, No Justice

Buddhism teaches that there are other forces beside karma that shape our lives. These include natural forces like the changing seasons and gravity. When a natural disaster like an earthquake strikes a community, this is not some kind of collective karmic punishment. It's an unfortunate event that requires a compassionate response, not judgment.

Some people have a hard time understanding karma is created by our own actions. They want to believe there is some kind of mysterious cosmic force Out There somewhere, directing karma, rewarding good people and punishing bad people.

Buddhist scholar Walpola Rahula said:

"The theory of karma should not be confused with so-called 'moral justice' or 'reward and punishment'. The idea of moral justice, or reward and punishment, arises out of the conception of a supreme being, a God, who sits in judgment, who is a law-giver and who decides what is right and wrong. The term 'justice' is ambiguous and dangerous, and in its name more harm than good is done to humanity. The theory of karma is the theory of cause and effect, of action and reaction; it is a natural law, which has nothing to do with the idea of justice or reward and punishment."

Good and Bad Karma?

Sometimes people talk about "good" and "bad" (or "evil") karma. Buddhist understanding of "good" and "evil" is somewhat different from the way Westerners usually understand these terms. To see the Buddhist perspective, it's useful to substitute the words "wholesome" and "unwholesome" for "good" and "evil." Wholesome actions spring from selfless compassion, loving kindness, and wisdom. Unwholesome actions spring from greed, hate, and ignorance.

Bee Pollen contains around 50% Protein much of which is in the form of free amino acids. It is also high in the B Complex Vitamins and enzymes. Use: Bee Pollen Granules can be sprinkled on salads for added flavor. They have a slightly sweet taste and a strong flavor so are typically mixed with other foods. It is best to mix into foods after cooking-enzymes are destroyed by heat.

BEESWAX (Beeswax)
2 tablespoons of beeswax melted and add 1/2 cup oil (add some of our Essential Oils for an easy solid perfume or magical ointment). You can always make a solid perfume by adding essential oils for fragrances after removing the wax from the heat, but better yet, first infuse a Carrier Oil with fragrant herbs, strain, then add to melted wax for a subtle, magical unguent or ointment. The tannins in the herb are released only if it is taken in an acidic medium; add a little lemon juice to a quarter-cup of water to which you add the tincture or prepare as a tea. Samhain, pronounced Sow-en, falls between Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 and is more commonly known as All Hallows Eve, or Halloween. Samhain is considered the most important of the Witches' sabbats [holidays].

There are eight Wiccan sabbats, which are divided into four High Holy Days and four Lesser Holy Days. Wiccans also celebrate the phases of the moon, and any such gathering is called and Esbat. The four High Holy Days are Samhain (Nov. 1), Imbolc (Feb. 1), Beltane (May 1), and Lughnasadh (August 1). The four Lesser Holy Days correspond with the solstices and equinoxes, so their dates vary each year; Ostara (the spring equinox) falls between March 20 and 22, Midsummer (the summer solstice) falls between June 20 and 22, Mabon (the autumnal equinox) falls between Sept. 20 and 22, and Yule (the winter solstice) falls between Dec. 20 and 22).

Samhain is often referred to as the Witch's New Year because it's the official end of the Light Half of the year, and therefore the beginning of the Dark Half of the year. Samhain is also the time of the year when we harvest the last of the crops and get ready for winter. Because Samhain marks the end of the harvest season, it also represents the beginning of the year to come.

Some Wiccans express this time of the year with the metaphor of the Oak King being overcome by the Holly King. The Oak King is embodies the young and virile king of summer and the Holly King embodies the lord of the underworld and winter. Casting a Magick Circle

CIRCLE CASTING

You will need:

Salt Water

Sage Bundle

Compass

4 Quarter Candles (on candle safe holders): these are for on the floor around the circle.

East: Blue Candle

South: Red Candle

West: Teal, Aqua or Sea Green Candle

North: Brown Candle

Quartz Crystals or Clusters: to fill in around the Quarter Candles on the circle

Wand or Athame

Lighter or Matches

Candle Snuffer: Never blow out candles during a ritual--this is disruptive to the magickal energies.

This is the area that you are using as a "portal between worlds." This circle will exist on the physical and spiritual planes. Your magick will be heard and made manifest in multiple dimensions. It filters down from the other dimensions and appears last in our physical dimension. Don't be discouraged if your magical workings do not manifest immediately. Rest assured that they are being processed in the other dimensions first. It's like a trickle-down effect.

First: prepare to cleanse the area physically.

Carpet or rug: Vacuum

Hard surfaces: Mop with salt water. Be careful with hardwood floors. Just a damp mop.

Second: prepare to cleanse the area spiritually.

Smudge the area. Light a sage bundle. Walk the smoke through the area to cleanse it of negative energy.

Mark the outline of your circle.

Use your compass to find N, S, E and W. Set up your Quarter Candles accordingly--don't light them yet!

Use the Quartz Crystals to full in the circle between the candles. Quartz has high vibrational energies and will strengthen and reinforce your circle.

Put your alter in the center of the circle. OR If you have a permanent alter: cast your circle around the altar.

CIRCLE BLESSING

Take each element from your alter (individually) and go once deosil (Clockwise) around the circle. While walking disperse the element while reciting the corresponding blessing:

Face north. Hold your athamé or wand out at waist level. Walk deosil (clockwise)thrice (3 times) around

Merry Meet, Beginners!

This is a great journey you have embarked upon. It will require a lot of discipline and study. Anything worth doing does. Hope I haven't lost anyone yet.

I suggest you get a good book to guide you on your journey. Anything by Silver Ravenwolf is good. Her most comprehensive is "The Ultimate Book of Shadows for the New Generation Solitary Witch." (See store below) It is awesome! It gives a history of Witchcraft, tool and rituals, holidays of the Craft, your responsibilities and yes, SPELLS!

Don't just skip to the end to get to the good parts! You need to be properly prepared first. Do I hear groaning out there? I hope not.

Everyone should be excited because our biggest celebration of the whole witch year is almost here. Samhain! All Hallows Eve! Okay, you know it better as Halloween. No, it's not about the candy. It marks the beginning and end of a witches' year. A full turning of the circle. It is the day when the veil between worlds is at its thinnest. The spirits of the departed can return to this earth. Fun, right!

The Wiccan Rede
Bide within the Law you must, in perfect Love and perfect Trust.
Live you must and let to live, fairly take and fairly give.

For tread the Circle thrice about, to keep unwelcome spirits out.

To bind the spell well every time, let the spell be said in rhyme.

Light of eye and soft of touch, speak you little, listen much.

Honor the Old Ones in deed and name, let love and light be our guides again.

Deosil go by the waxing moon, chanting out the joyful tune.

Widdershins go when the moon doth wane, and the werewolf howls by the dread wolfsbane.

When the Lady's moon is new, kiss the hand to Her times two.

When the moon rides at Her peak then your heart's desire seek.

Heed the North winds mighty gale, lock the door and trim the sail.

When the Wind blows from the East, expect the new and set the feast.

When the wind comes from the South, love will kiss you on the mouth.

When the wind whispers from the West, all hearts will find peace and rest.

Nine woods in the Cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.

Birch in the fire goes, to represent what the Lady knows.

Oak in the forest towers with might, in the fire it brings the God's insight.

Rowan is a tree of power, causing life and magick to flower.

Willows at the waterside stand, ready to help us to the Summerland.

Hawthorn is burned to purify, and to draw faerie to your eye.

Hazel-the tree of wisdom and learning, adds its strength to the bright fire burning.

White are the flowers of Apple tree, that brings us fruits of fertility.

Grapes grow upon the vine, giving us both joy and wine.

Fir does mark the evergreen, to represent immortality seen.

Elder is the Lady's tree, burn it not or cursed you'll be.

Four times the Major Sabbats mark, in the light and in the dark.

As the old year starts to wane, the new begins, it's now Samhain.

When the time for Imbolc shows, watch for flowers through the snows.

When the wheel begins to turn, soon the Beltane fires will burn.

As the wheel turns to Lamas night, power is brought to magick rite.

Four times the Minor Sabbats fall, use the Sun to mark them all.

When the wheel has turned to Yule, light the log the Horned One rules.

In the spring, when night equals day, time for Ostara to come our way.

When the Sun has reached it's height, time for Oak and Holly to fight.

Harvesting comes to one and all, when the Autumn Equinox does fall.

Heed the flower, bush, and tree, by the Lady blessed you'll be.

Where the rippling waters go, cast a stone, the truth you'll know.

When you have and hold a need, harken not to others greed.

With a fool no season spend, or be counted as his friend.

Merry Meet and Merry Part, bright the cheeks and warm the heart.

Mind the Three-fold Laws you should, three times bad and three times good.

When misfortune is enow, wear the star upon your brow.

Be true in love this you must do, unless your love is false to you.

The Witches Creed

Hear now the words of the witches,The secrets we hid in the night,

When dark was our destiny's pathway, That now we bring forth into light.
Mysterious water and fire, The earth and the wide-ranging air,

By hidden quintessence we know them, And will and keep silent and dare.

The birth and rebirth of all nature, The passing of winter and spring,

We share with the life universal, Rejoice in the magical ring.

Four times in the year the Great Sabbat Returns, and the witches are seen

At Lammas and Candlemas dancing, On May Eve and old Hallowe'en.

When day-time and night-time are equal, When sun is at greatest and least,

The four Lesser Sabbats are summoned, And Witches gather in feast.

Thirteen silver moons in a year are, Thirteen is the coven's array.

Thirteen times at Esbat make merry, For each golden year and a day.

The power that was passed down the age, Each time between woman and man,

Each century unto the other, Ere time and the ages began.
When drawn is the magical circle, By sword or athame of power,

Its compass between two worlds lies, In land of the shades for that hour.

This world has no right then to know it. And world of beyond will tell naught.

The oldest of Gods are invoked there, The Great Work of magic is wrought.

For the two are mystical pillars, That stand at the gate of the shrine,

And two are the powers of nature, The forms and the forces divine.

The dark and the light in succession, The opposites each unto each,

Shown forth as a God and a Goddess: Of this our ancestors teach.

By night he's the wild winds rider, The Horn'd One, the Lord of the Shades.

By day he's the King of the Woodland, The dweller in green forest glades.

She is youthful or old as she pleases, She sails the torn clouds in her barque,

The bright silver lady of midnight, The crone who weaves spells in the dark.

The master and mistress of magic, That dwell in the deeps of the mind,

Immortal and ever-renewing, With power to free or to bind.

So drink the good wine to the Old Gods, And Dance and make love in their praise,

Till Elphame's fair land shall receive us. In peace at the end of our days.

And Do What You Will be the challenge, So be it Love that harms none,
