Nicene Creed
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Definition of Chalcedon (451)
We, then, following the holy Fathers, all with one consent, teach men to confess one and the same Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the same perfect in Godhead and also perfect in manhood; truly God and truly man, of a reasonable [rational] soul and body; consubstantial [co-essential] with the Father according to the Godhead, and consubstantial with us according to the Manhood; in all things like unto us, without sin; begotten before all ages of the Father according to the Godhead, and in these latter days, for us and for our salvation, born of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, according to the Manhood; one and the same Christ, Son, Lord, only begotten, to be acknowledged in two natures, inconfusedly, unchangeably, indivisibly, inseparably; the distinction of natures being by no means taken away by the union, but rather the property of each nature being preserved, and concurring in one Person and one Subsistence, not parted or divided into two persons, but one and the same Son, and only begotten, God the Word, the Lord Jesus Christ; as the prophets from the beginning [have declared] concerning Him, and the Lord Jesus Christ Himself has taught us, and the Creed of the holy Fathers has handed down to us.

<itunes:summary>In this episode we have a special guest, Anthony Navarro, as Lee and Michael, all discuss the distinctive features of Presbyterian government. We also highlights from our summer Presbytery meeting as well as our General Synod.
The book that we recommended on the show was Sean Michael Lewis On Being Presbyterian.
The Westminster Confession of Faith, Ch. XXV:
1. The catholic or universal church, which is invisible, consists of the whole number of the elect that have been, are, or shall be gathered, into one, under Christ the head thereof.
From the ARP Form of Government (FOG):
The Sesson, is the “lowest court of the Church consists of the ruling elders in active service and the pastor. The session is charged with the spiritual oversight and government of the congregation” (FOG XI. A.1,2).
The Presbytery is “the court of the Church next higher than the session… which has the oversight of a group of congregations with a specific geographical area.” It is charged with administration with the “higher courts being constituted simply by a wider application of the general principles of the Presbytery” (FOG XII, A).
The General Synod is to “supervise the general work of the Church” having the “power to appoint boards, comissions, and comittees.” (FOG XIII).
A quaroum is merely a proportion, one third of the ministers and elders from one third of the congregations (FOG XII. C.5).</itunes:summary>

Maccabees
On Judas Maccabee, it appears this reference is more ambiguous than I said on the podcast. But in 1 Maccabees 2:28, Mattathias (Judas’s father) and his sons flee “to the hills” and in verse 29 “At that time many who were seeking righteousness and justice went down to the wilderness to live there.”
1-4 Maccabees are part of the Apocrypha and not included in our Bibles. As the Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter 1, article III says:
The Books commonly called Apocrypha, not being of divine inspiration, are no part of the canon of the Scripture; and therefore are of no authority in the Church of God, nor to be any otherwise approved, or made use of, than other human writings.
They are important writings for many reasons but they are no inspired.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>We are back! This is Part 1 of our Sabbath discussion as it relates to Mark 2:32-3:6. Look for a part 2 coming soon (and maybe even a part 3!).
Grammatical Historical Method [wikipedia]

Westminster Confession of Faith 21.7, 8
7. As it is the law of nature, that, in general, a due proportion of time be set apart for the worship of God; so, in His Word, by a positive, moral, and perpetual commandment binding all men in all ages, He hath particularly appointed one day in seven, for a Sabbath, to be kept holy unto him: which, from the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ, was the last day of the week; and, from the resurrection of Christ, was changed into the first day of the week, which, in Scripture, is called the Lord’s Day, and is to be continued to the end of the world, as the Christian Sabbath.
8. This Sabbath is then kept holy unto the Lord, when men, after a due preparing of their hearts, and ordering of their common affairs before-hand, do not only observe an holy rest all the day from their own works, words, and thoughts about their worldly employments and recreations, but also are taken up, the whole time, in the public and private exercises of His worship, and in the duties of necessity and mercy.
Westminster Larger Catechism Q. 115-121
Question 115: Which is the fourth commandment?
Answer: The fourth commandment is, Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Question 116: What is required in the fourth commandment?
Answer: The fourth commandment requires of all men the sanctifying or keeping holy to God such set times as he has appointed in his Word, expressly one whole day in seven; which was the seventh from the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ, and the first day of the week ever since, and so to continue to the end of the world; which is the Christian sabbath, and in the New Testament called the Lord’s day.
Question 117: How is the sabbath or the Lord’s day to be sanctified?
Answer: The sabbath or Lord’s day is to be sanctified by an holy resting all the day, not only from such works as are at all times sinful, but even from such worldly employments and recreations as are on other days lawful; and making it our delight to spend the whole time (except so much of it as is to betaken up in works of necessity and mercy) in the public and private exercises of God’s worship: and, to that end, we are to prepare our hearts, and with such foresight, diligence, and moderation, to dispose and seasonably dispatch our worldly business, that we may be the more free and fit for the duties of that day.
Question 118: Why is the charge of keeping the sabbath more specially directed to governors of families, and other superiors?
Answer: The charge of keeping the sabbath is more specially directed to governors of families, and other superiors, because they are bound not only to keep it themselves, but to see that it be observed by all those that are under their charge; and because they are prone ofttimes to hinder them by employments of their own.
Question 119: What are the sins forbidden in the fourth commandment?
Answer: The sins forbidden in the fourth commandment are, all omissions of the duties required, all careless, negligent, and unprofitable performing of them, and being weary of them; all profaning the day by idleness, and doing that which is in itself sinful; and by all needless works, words, and thoughts, about our worldly employments and recreations.
Question 120: What are the reasons annexed to the fourth commandment[...]</itunes:summary>
