What followed was a beautiful blur of bhajans, barefoot sprints, mysterious forests, saint sightings and street food debates with destiny. This is not just a travel story. It is Vrindavan doing what Vrindavan does best. Rearranging your plans and gently laughing at them.

Delhi to Vrindavan Road Trip: Smooth Roads, Spiritual Goals

We left Delhi around 4 PM, armed with devotion, snacks and Google Maps, heading towards Vrindavan which is roughly 150 km from Delhi. We chose the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, smoothly transitioned to the Palwal–Agra Expressway, and honestly, the roads were so good that even our playlist behaved. Another option is to take Yamuna Expressway which is brilliantly maintained as well.

Traffic was decent, spirits were high, and in about 2.5 hours, we rolled into Vrindavan by 6:30 PM.

Our stay was booked at Shri Hit Dham Ashram, strategically located near Shri Hit Radha Keli Kunj, the residence of Premanand Ji Maharaj. Location matters in Vrindavan, sometimes spiritually, sometimes because you lose your shoes and need emotional support nearby.

We checked in, freshened up, and by 7:30 PM, devotion was calling loudly. Louder than hunger.

Banke Bihari Ji Darshan: Faith, Force & Footwear Fallout

To save time, we took an e-rickshaw to Shri Banke Bihari Temple. It drops you a few meters away, and from there begins the real Vrindavan experience. Narrow lanes. Shops on both sides. Temples hiding between laddoos and devotees. Street food competing with shlokas.

The queue was long. The crowd was enthusiastic. Entry into the temple was less of walking and more of spiritual compression therapy.

A short story of Shri Banke Bihari Ji

Shri Banke Bihari Ji is a combined divine form of Radha and Krishna, manifesting the ultimate union of love and devotion. He is worshipped as a playful child, so his darshan curtains open and close frequently, believed to prevent devotees from fainting due to overwhelming divine beauty.

We somehow managed one magical glimpse. Exited from a gate that had absolutely no emotional attachment to where our footwear was kept.

Socks, Second Darshan & Shoe Moksha

Thanks to socks, the walk back was survivable. When we reached the footwear area, surprise. The queue had vanished. Naturally, we assumed divine invitation for second darshan. Back in we went. Still crowded. Still divine. Still socks.

Then came the real test of faith. My shoes were gone!!! Looked everywhere, but NO!

Vanished. Liberated. Attained moksha.

Radha Vallabh Temple - Setting the Priorities

While logic suggested buying slippers immediately, I insisted on visiting Shri Radha Vallabh Temple. This temple uniquely places Radha Rani at the center of worship, with Lord Krishna represented symbolically by a crown. The atmosphere is deeply devotional, serene and less chaotic.

Darshan done. Soul calmer. Feet still angry. My wife then offered her socks, which I layered over mine. Cushioning meets surrender.

Street Food, Shopping & Malayio Confusion

We strolled through Vrindavan’s buzzing lanes. Bought winter dresses and ornaments for Laddu Gopal. Tried Aaloo Tikki, Aaloo Kachori, Dosa, drank hot Kadhai Milk.

And yes, tried Malayio, the famous winter dessert of Banaras. Verdict: waited years for it, tried in Vrindavan, politely disappointed.

At 10 PM, a footwear shop appeared like divine intervention. The shopkeeper refused to negotiate. He knew desperation when he saw socks. New slippers. Emotional closure.

Keli Kunj & Devotion Without Deadlines

We walked back to the Ashram, crossing Keli Kunj, where Premanand Ji Maharaj resides. Dozens of devotees were sleeping on the streets. They were waiting for chit distribution between 2 AM and 4 AM, hoping to get one of the 100 chits that allow Ekantik Vartalap, a personal conversation where one can ask Premanand Ji Maharaj a life question. That sight alone was a sermon.

We reached our room and slept like spiritually exhausted babies.

Morning Temple Walk: Vrindavan at Its Best

After breakfast, we resumed temple hopping.

Shri Sneh Bihari Temple

Located near Banke Bihari Temple, this is believed to be the place where Krishna showered divine affection (sneh) upon his devotees. Peaceful and emotionally warm.

Shri Radha Raman Temple

About a 30-minute walk, this temple houses a self-manifested Shaligram deity of Krishna from the 16th century. Highly revered and deeply powerful in silence.

Nidhivan: The Forest That Watches Back

Nidhivan is wrapped in mystery. Trees bend like dancers at night turning into Gopis. No one stays inside after sunset - no one, even monkeys leave this forest after sunset. It is believed Radha-Krishna perform Raas Leela here every night

Monkey alert: They are professional pickpockets. Phones, glasses, bags. Nothing is sacred unless you have food to bargain.

Yamuna Boat Ride & Negotiation Olympics

By 1 PM, my son demanded a boat ride on the Yamuna river.

Negotiations were intense. Tough bargaining helps. The ride lasts 15–30 minutes and offers a calm, reflective pause after temple hopping.

Premanand Ji Maharaj Darshan on Parikrama Marg Near Shri Hit Dham

Post lunch, crowds gathered outside our Ashram. Around 3 PM, Premanand Ji Maharaj passed during his parikrama in a black Toyota Fortuner, windows down, disciples guarding devotion on foot.

We were lucky. One glimpse. No pushing. Pure grace.

ISKCON Vrindavan: Bhajans, Peace & Pedhe

The ISKCON Temple opens around 4 PM, so plan accordingly. Most temples in Vrindavan close in the afternoon, plan accordingly.

We waited with Gol Gappas (Pani Puri in English, but let’s not disrespect it).

Inside ISCKON, live bhajans, dancing devotees and a calming rhythm filled the air. Sit. Absorb. Don’t rush.

At Govindam Restaurant, we had: Organic Tea, Decaf Coffee, Kesar Milk. Bought Vrindavan Pedhe and Chocolate Kaju Barfi as prasad (of course for my kid)

On our way back, we got another glimpse of Premanand Ji Maharaj, returning from parikrama. Twice in one day. Gratitude unlocked.

Wrapping Up: Leaving Vrindavan, Carrying Stories

As crowds settled, we loaded the car and drove back to Delhi.

Vrindavan isn’t about ticking temples off a list. It is about stories finding you. Sometimes through devotion. Sometimes through missing shoes.

We didn’t see everything. If you can carve out more time, ypu can experience beauty of Prem Mandir specially at night, you can go for Govardhan Parikrama - you can walk or hire E-rickshaw or an Auto/Tuk Tuk for Yatra. Also, do visit Barsana, the village and temple of Shri Radha Ji Ladli locate at hill top. You can drive or can take cable ropeway to visit and have Darshan of Radha Ji. I have been to both these places in my prior visit, but this time we were done and maybe next time again, with better footwear karma.

Planning a trip to Jim Corbett National Park with friends or office colleagues sounds like a peaceful getaway into nature — but our group turned it into a full-blown comedy show. What was supposed to be a simple weekend escape quickly transformed into one of the most unexpectedly hilarious Jim Corbett travel experiences ever. If India had a soul, it would probably live in Varanasi. Also called Banaras or Kashi, this city is where spirituality meets chaos, where street food competes with salvation, and where the Ganga flows not just as a river but as living history. This is Magic of Kashi.

Here’s how our 2-day Varanasi itinerary unfolded — from Assi Ghat Aarti to Baba Kaal Bhairav, from Kashi Vishwanath Temple to Ganga Cruise.

Delhi Airport – The Hunger Games Edition

We kicked off the trip at Delhi airport lounge, which felt less like breakfast and more like a wrestling match to get in. My wife secured some Poha, my son raided the muffin counter, and I ended up with Dosa like a true survivor.

A quick 1.5-hour flight from Delhi to Varanasi later, we landed at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport.

Next, an e-rickshaw whisked us to Baba Kaal Bhairav Temple, one of the most important shrines of Varanasi. The evening Aarti was powerful — bells ringing, chants rising, and my son whispering in between, “Papa, can we get a burger after this?”

By 9 PM, we navigated the famous narrow lanes of Varanasi, dodging scooters, cows, and shoppers. At Gate No. 4, we deposited our belongings in exchange for flowers and entered the holy Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas.

Darshan was smooth, thanks to our Uber Guru’s timing tip. Standing before Lord Shiva in this ancient temple was overwhelming — a moment where faith felt tangible.

Dinner followed at the new Kashi Vishwanath corridor food court, where dosa, burgers, and ice cream fueled us back to life.

On our way out, we accidentally walked past Manikarnika Ghat, the eternal cremation ground and also known as The Burning Ghat where it’s believed souls attain salvation a.k.a moksha. Suddenly, I understood the heaviness I felt — the energy here is profound and indescribable.

Day 2: Food Trail in Banaras

Next morning, we were in full exploration mode (read: Varanasi food trail). Rain played spoil sport, but our willpower was stronger.

During Aarti, devotees formed two neat queues, leaving a clear line of sight between Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram. The energy was so uplifting, even my son stood quietly (a miracle in itself). No pics as camera is not allowed at all.

Nightcap with Lassi

On our way back, we tried our luck at Chachi Kachori, but it was sold out. Luckily, our e-rickshaw driver suggested Pahalwan Lassi — thick, creamy, and almost a meal in itself. That, plus some snacks, became our dinner.

Day 3: Morning Temple Hopping

Our final morning was devoted to nearby temples:

Durga Mata Mandir – one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, dedicated to Goddess Durga.

Tulsi Manas Mandir – built where saint Tulsidas composed the Ramcharitmanas. Its walls are engraved with verses from the epic.

Both offered a calm, divine closure to our spiritual circuit.

Return Journey: Vande Bharat Express 🚄

We packed up and headed to Varanasi Junction for the Vande Bharat Express to Delhi.

The train left at 3 PM sharp, serving snacks, tea, and dinner. My son, on his first train ride in 10 years, was over the moon. Me? Slightly bored (I’m a flight person), but I have to admit — Vande Bharat is clean, fast, and on time. By night, we were home in Delhi, tired yet fulfilled.

Final Thoughts

Varanasi isn’t just a city — it’s an experience. In two days, we witnessed Ganga Aarti at Assi Ghat, sought blessings at Kashi Vishwanath, Baba Kaal Bhairav, and Sankat Mochan Mandir, explored Banaras street food, shopped sarees, cruised past 84 ghats, and even rode India’s pride, the Vande Bharat Express.

It’s 10:58 PM and the office looks calm from the outside, but inside, there’s a jailbreak brewing. Laptop lids close with suspicious casualness, bags are dragged out from under desks like hidden treasure, and someone is on their fifth “just finishing some emails” call to their boss. By 11:05, four cars snake out of the parking lot, headlights blazing like Fast & Furious: Corporate Edition. Well, who would not want a quick weekend getaway with office friends.

“Drive slow, we need to buy some booze,” says one of the friends.

“We will get the booze, but when will get the promotion?” someone shoots back. The car erupts in laughter. From corporate gossips to horror stories and everything else is on plate.

Midnight Fuel Stops: Chai, Pakoras & Highway Philosophy

At 2 AM, the ritual begins: A guy who is a chain smoker with endless promises and commitments to quit smoking would ask for a quick break (smoke break) which is then followed by midnight chai stop, pakoras, and samosas at a grimy-but-beloved roadside dhaba. A dusty TV plays 90s Bollywood songs while a sleepy waiter wipes tables with exaggerated boredom.

The group debates everything from whether our manager is secretly on TikTok to if aliens would like Indian snacks.

Calories, of course, don’t count after midnight. Especially when the chai glass is small enough to make you believe you’re being healthy. All these are the ingredients for hill station road trip without which, the journey would be incomplete.

But wait, just one break? There will be several more dedicate to the smokers, the friend who would want to stop almost at every stop just for Instagram and the one who would want to pee again and again.

Dawn Patrol: Crashing Like Pros and Rebooting

By dawn, the car interiors look like snack graveyards. Someone’s fallen asleep with headphones on; someone else has been using a backpack as a pillow. We roll into the hill station just as the sun paints the mountains pink.

“We’re so going to wake up early and trek!” says one enthusiast.

Cut to five hours later: no one is awake except the hotel receptionist.

The Midday Revival: Tourist Mode Activated

By noon, everyone is miraculously vertical. Strolling through winding bazaar lanes, bargaining like seasoned pros, arguing over which café has “authentic” momos, and taking group selfies in front of every signboard.

Bali Travel Adventure: Our Humorous Family Trip (with Tips & Food Recommendations 🍴)

Forget “Eat, Pray, Love.” Our Bali trip was “Slip, Pray, Laugh.” Between kleptomaniac monkeys, cat-poop coffee, and cliffs that test your quadriceps, this was the family adventure of a lifetime.

Getting There & First Impressions

We flew into Denpasar from Kuala Lumpur — a breezy three-hour hop. A pre-booked Grab driver waited for us, and after Airport formalities and flaunting our E-Visa, we were on our way to Ubud. The ride took about 1.5 hours (since it was mid-night, during day the time can be 2 to 3 hours), winding through rice paddies and incense-filled villages.

Our hotel in Ubud was a leafy boutique villa tucked into a rice field. A plunge pool, and geckos on guard duty. It smelled of frangipani and mosquito repellent — Bali’s signature welcome combo.

🐒 Ubud – Temples, Monkeys & Mild Panic

We glanced at the clock: 2 a.m. We all crashed on the bed tired from our trip from Kuala Lumpur… only to be woken at 11 a.m. by a flurry of phone calls from the hotel reception and several polite knocks on the door. Apparently, breakfast had already ended and the staff was worried we’d joined a secret society of eternal sleepers.

Me: “Uh… we’re alive!”

Wife: “Do I get breakfast in bed, or just judgment?”Son: “I hope they brought pancakes… and Wi-Fi.”

The hotel staff, bless their souls, kept breakfast aside for us and delivered a full room-service feast. Pancakes, fresh fruit, and coffee magically appeared at our door. I silently promised to hug every hotel worker in Bali if I ever saw them again. With our tummies stuffed, soon we were ready to explore Ubud.

But Ubud Palace isn’t just for standing around feeling fancy. Every evening the palace courtyard transforms into an open-air theater where traditional Balinese dance performances happen — think glittering costumes, hypnotic gamelan music, and storytelling so dramatic even Netflix would be jealous. The best part? It’s right in the middle of Ubud, so you can wander from palace to market to café without breaking a sweat (well, except in Bali humidity).

In short: Ubud Palace is where you go to soak up Balinese culture, pretend you’re royalty for an hour, and snap that “wish you were here” photo your friends will secretly envy.

While, we wanted to watch the Balinese performance, we also wanted to see Saraswati Temple. We got to know that artists are performing The Ramayana that evening. So the evening was spent watching the epic tale of Lord Ram from front seats (we reached early, really early). There is a restaurant inside the temple premises where you can eat while you wait for the show to start.

Wife (whispering): “This is magical.”

Son (whispering): “Is Diwali round the corner? Is this Ram Leela?.”

Me: “Shhh, you’ll get us kicked out.”

Tip: Arrive 30 minutes early for good seats and grab a fresh coconut from the street vendors outside.

On the way while exploring Ubud, we came across music festival which was celebrated ahead of Nyepi. If you're wondering what Nyepi is, scroll down a bit and you'll find out. The fest had many artists performing and people enjoying the food and art along with the effigies of demons that would be burned in few days.

Bali Swing – High Fashion Meets Mild Terror

Perched over the jungle, the Bali Swing is a photographer’s dream and an acrophobe’s nightmare. If Bali had a screensaver, it would be the Tegallalang Rice Terraces. Endless green steps of rice paddies cascade down hillsides like Mother Nature’s version of an amphitheater. The views here are so dreamy, your camera roll will explode before your coffee even cools.

Walk along the narrow paths, watch farmers tend their fields, or try the iconic swing that launches you out over the terraces for that “I’m-so-free” Instagram moment (you’ll look calm, your heart will be screaming). Early morning visits give you misty views and fewer tourists — but even at its busiest, Tegallalang still feels like Bali’s green heartbeat.

My wife glided above the jungle like a Bali goddess in a perfume ad. My son and I stood below, the unpaid paparazzi:

Me: “Tilt your chin, more wind in the hair!”

🌊 Nusa Penida – The Cliff-Hugging Escape

We hopped a speedboat to Nusa Penida, our son clutching his life jacket like a teddy bear. The trip from Sanur to Nusa Penida takes about 40 minutes, though the sea feels like a trampoline for grown-ups.

On the island we hired a driver (essential — the roads are rough) and saw Kelingking Beach (aka T-Rex Cliff), Angel’s Billabong, Broken Beach, and snorkeled at Crystal Bay.

We also sampled the legendary banana pancake shacks — 50% carbs, 50% Instagram. For lunch we tried Nasi Campur (rice with veggies, tempeh, and chicken) and fresh coconut water served straight from the husk.

Tip: Nusa Penida is a great island, but sun can be harsh. Many operators offer early morning pick up from your hotel typically for a day trip that covers transfer to and fro Island on speedboat and beach hopping at the island. I recommend an overnight stay to peacefully enjoy the island rather than rushing. There are beautiful beaches with many water activities, Snorkeling I recommend.

The Great Escape from Nyepi

Nyepi (Balinese New Year) is the island’s day of silence. But the day before? Total carnival chaos with demon effigies and street parades. We had to escape to Nusa Dua before everything shut down.

Son: “Dad, if one of these demons comes alive, we’re toast.”

Wife: “Smile for the picture anyway.”

Our crawl through the parades gave us a front-row seat to Bali’s most colorful chaos. The effigies towered higher than our hotel, dancers in monster masks performed in the street, and our driver muttered prayers under his breath.

KLCC Park: Green Escapes & Bench-Based Exercise

To walk off the world’s heaviest salad, we strolled through KLCC Park. Kids ran wild, fountains danced, joggers zipped by like they were in a commercial. My wife took 1,274 photos of the fountains and towers, my son conquered the playground like a warrior, and I? I found a bench. Sitting, I decided, absolutely counts as exercise.

And just like that, our Kuala Lumpur chapter came to a close. We had conquered Batu Caves (or at least survived the monkeys), gazed down from KL Tower without fainting, pretended to eat healthy at Suria KLCC, and even achieved peak tourist smugness at KLCC Park. For a brief, shining moment, we felt like seasoned travelers—organized, cultured, and maybe even Instagram-worthy.

But the travel gods were clearly laughing. Because next up was Bali, where the only thing heavier than my wife’s salad was the rain-clouds waiting for us. Imagine packing swimsuits, sunscreen, and dreams of beaches, only to be greeted by thunderstorms so dramatic they deserved their own Bollywood background score. Spoiler alert: umbrellas were useless, flip-flops turned into jet skis, and chaos was about to become our new travel companion.
