Karine Ramadan is a teen geek who spends five hours everyday online. She dreams about working in the technology sector when she grows up but will first have to fight against the gender gap existing in the high technology and Beirut marketing community. At the age of 16, Karine was the perfect candidate for the Girl Geek Camp that is currently running for 16 teenagers in Lebanon mountains.

Participants learn about entrepreneurship, technology careers, video editing, mobile technology, gaming, photography, blogging, programming, internet security and social networking. An activist for technology Lebanon’s women rights, Nadine Moawad runs the camp. She said, “We want to eliminate the technology gender gap that is currently very sharp in Lebanon. Here, the girls are discouraged from pursuing engineering or math. The Girl Geek Camp was established to bring these ideas to younger generation.”

The residential camp runs for a week and girls participating were asked to pay as little or as much as they would be able to afford. The shortfall was made up among Nasawiya. One challenge was to persuade the parents of the girls’ to allow them to participate. “We organized meetings with families so they could understand this project. However, several parents did not allow their daughters to participate.”

Karine said, “My parents know I’m always a geek and they encouraged me to participate. My friends too supported by decision and thought the camp was cool. I’ve enjoyed learning mostly about programming and hacking. Each of us has good skills so it should not be very hard to have technology careers for us.”

With the summer months sinking in, there is an increasing number of young tourists in Dubai pursuing growing interest in the Arabic culture and language. Students from other countries have been coming to the Middle East for many reasons, many to learn Lebanon marketing while others to learn Arabic language. For several students, Dubai is the best possible destination to learn the language.

Learning Arabic allows the students to pursue careers in consular diplomacy and international relations in Middle East. Knowing the language also gives them a peek in the rich culture, art and history of the region.

Students like Leslie Malouf and various others opt for an elongated stay in Dubai in order to learn the language their forefathers spoke. Trying to supplement this influx of young students eager to improve English or learn Arabic, UAE has now introduced summer classes. Over 150 students this summer enrolled for English classes across Dubai’s numerous institutions. The Eton Institute offers a short term intensive language course and the International House in Dubai has an accredited English course. Moaz Khan, Marketing Manager of Eton Institute says that Dubai’s educational tourism industry is quickly mushrooming because these courses are cost effective and also offer high levels of training and education standards. Middle Eastern natives today understand the importance of learning English language and want to ensure that they have a good future in their chosen field by learning the language.

Several students that enroll for the English classes are from Saudi Arabia or from other neighboring countries. With Dubai’s popular fashion industry and hospitality sector, the summer short term courses in the fields that are offered by accredited universities can enhance the capacity of the city as the next big education tourism hub.

ventures. Excellent Training, the other business that he handles in Herzliya offers fitness training to adolescents and young children in preparations for entering the army. His fitness background has a lot to do with factors other than the years he served in the military. Bar-Or is also a marathoner, tri-athlete and an Ironman.

However, Lionops remains quite different from his fitness business. The main goal of the expedition company is to provide participants a In a settlement close to Ben-Gurion Airport, tourists now have a chance to experience travel at its most extere. Lionops founded by Eldar Bar-Or, former IDF Officer, offers unique experiences through military and extreme tourism. Although the Lebanon marketing for the firm is not yet done with full force, the company is already making news with tourists over the world.

With the view of capitalizing on the increasing interest of tourists in niche tourism, the company offers 7 to10 days excursions where Bar-Or along with his staff members guide the participants through a wide range of modern warfare games and exercises. The customized packages may include medical procedures, guerrilla war strategy, camouflage, anti-terrorism strategies, navigation, hand combat and several other exercises.

Although Bar-Or has been developing the idea now for several months, he still faces the challenge of getting the tourism company off the ground. However, he has been touring with travel writers from the US and other countries, hoping to see a breakthrough. The company offers basic as well as advanced training that includes gun training, skydiving, camouflage sessions, spy games as well as Mount Carmel climbing expedition.

Bar-Or is not a stranger when it comes to entrepreneurial fun experience and not really providing lessons in warfare realities from the perspective of IDF.

GoNabit, an innovative group buying Middle East and Lebanon marketing website is all set to integrate to LivingSocial. The company will operate under its brand name in the future after its acquisition by one of the most popular and largest group buying site of the US. Once GoNabit becomes a part of LivingSocial, it will be able to leverage the growth platform in order to grow larger than it would otherwise be able to.

Although GoNabit operates in a very new industry in the region, the Beirut marketing company has already been able to grow impressively after it was founded by Jahanbani and Stuart in 2010. The company has its headquarters in Dubai and offers coupons in English and Arabic that allow customers to save 50% to 90%. The company has its branch operations and offices in Cairo, Kuwait, Amman, Beirut and Abu Dhabi and has a very large number of registered users.

One of the main reasons why GoNabit has been able to enjoy such a growth in a short time was because of their transparent and specific business model that involved many key drivers producing immediate feedback. In Lebanon, as with the other parts of Middle East, the company offers various types of discounts and coupons including fitness and heath, beverage and food coupons. However, there is also a lot of potential in the company’s travel deals.

Speaking about the company’s acquisition, Stuart explained that their company was chosen by LivingSocial because of the similarities between the companies and close alignment. Tim O’Shaughnessy, CEO of LivingSocial, in a statement released post the acquisition said, “Like the earlier acquisitions, we have chosen to partner with the local company that has similar methods of doing business and the same values. We are quite excited to make our entry in the Middle Eastern market and strengthen our global efforts of bringing the values of our company to members all over the world.”
