Create your own seal & The Gimp

Create your own seal like the one on the left from
The Official Seal Generator.

For my seal I used The Gimp to tweaked it a bit. The Gimp is a free image manipulation software, some people compare it to Adobe Photo shop but with some minor tools missing.
If you are getting into web development and don't have the dough to buy Adobe Photo shop or something similar, The Gimp is the perfect tool to start with and learn. As you can see in figure 1 & 2 you can make banners, buttons, tweak pictures and your imagination and creativity is your only limit with The Gimp. Download The Gimp from filehippo.com here. You will need to install the GTK + 2 Runtime Enviroment to run The Gimp for the first time, which can be downloaded here.
The Gimp is avialable for Windows, Mac OS X, and Unix including Linux.

that when you run CCleaner for the first time you will say to

Poor Microsoft, years too late...

Yeah Microsoft is coming out with its best impersonation of the better browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Opera. IE7 will be the browser of choice for the new Vista OS, there is also IE7 version for Windows XP which can be downloaded here. It will have tabbed browsing. In the Vista OS version only there will be a "Protected Mode", whereby the browser runs in a sandbox with even lower rights than a limited user account. As such, it can write to only the Temporary Internet Files folder and cannot install start-up programs or change any configuration of the operating system without communicating through a broker process.
Blah, blah, blah, yeah I can continue sweeting the pot about IE7 but in the end its just Internet Explorer, just a "7" at the end.

Alternative to Microsoft Word

I was looking on the line up a certain computer seller has for sale on its website and saw that they charge extra if one wants their computer to come with Microsoft Office suite, which includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Frontpage, and Powerpoint. For most of the mentioned applications like Frontpage most people don't use it.
Microsoft Word on the other hand is a different story, most people use it on a daily basis in the office and personal level. So, I started searching to see if I can find a comparable product that has most or better features that are in Microsoft Word but it had to be free.
When I came across Abi Word I knew I found what I was looking for.

Apart from being FREE, it has all the features one would need for every day use, one great feature I like is that I have nine different options of file formats I can choose to save my document including .doc (microsoft word), .html, .rtf, .text, just to name a few. For all the none english speakers/writers out there (got to remember USA is not the only country in this planet) it comes in 49 different languages. It is very similar to Microsoft Word, so all those transfering from word or people that are familiar with word will feel at home with Abi Word.

Abi Word is part of the GNOME Office which also Includes Gnumeric, a spreadsheet application very similar to Microsoft Excel only FREE and GNOME-DB, software that provides database connectivity for Unix systems , also FREE.

Spyware, Viruses... tips for your computer.

Spyware and viruses, yeah I know they can all go to hell, but we got to admit they are all over the net ready to jump aboard your computer the moment you let your guard down.
First of all, straight off the bat I would recommend to get rid to your Internet Explorer browser and switch to Firefox. Firefox is much safer and is updated more frequently than Internet Explorer, it has won numerous awards for safety.
Also if your using windows from microsoft, make sure your computer is up to date (http//:windowsupdate.microsoft.com). Alot of us run our computer without the most recent patches that are available, and trust me, there are a alot of them.

To make sure your computer is running safe, make sure you have on your computer the three basic programs every computer should have, since I like stuff that say "FREE", and most likely you too. I will list items that are rated very highly in the antispyware game and are free:

Make sure you have a very good anti-virus program running at all times and is up to date. AVG, Avast, and AntiVir are very good programs and free. (you should have only one antivirus program running on your computer, more than one and it will cause problems).
Second, make sure you have a very anti-spyware program, Lavasoft's Ad-aware is very popular and good, but there are other ones like Ewido (very good) and Spybot Search & Destroy (Good)- (with anti-spyware, you can run more that one anti-spyware program-It will actually help out if one program misses a certain malware). You can also check out Microsofts own anti spyware program that will come standard in the upcoming Windows Vista, Windows Defender.
Last but not least, make sure you have a firewall running, alot of us neglect this step which is very important. Zonelab's ZoneAlarm is very good, my personal choice - it has alot of options like blocking which programs gain access to the internet. Windows has it own firewall, but it is no good. It has very basic protection. I would strongly recommend switching over to something like ZoneAlarm.

Remember all of the above programs are free but above all, they are very good-all of the mentioned programs have received numerous awards but if you got alot of $$$ and don't want to heed to the FREE programs above, be very careful and research the spyware and antivirus programs that you are thinking of installing on your computer. Do not make the same mistake I made with Spyaxe, instead of fixing my problems it made it worst, check out the list of a few of the rogue spyware programs here.
A good site to start your research is Wikipedia, certainly not the best but alot of useful information on the programs mentioned in this post.

Gas prices these days are sky high, it hurts you especially if you are driving a gas guzzler.
Prices at the pump don't get better when things go wrong in a oil refinery in Alaska.
