Review of Made In Belfast

I LOVE this place. Visited last night for the first time and was v impressed - stylish without any sense of taking itself too seriously. Food was excellent - completely retro chicken and chips which were cooked to perfection, followed by jelly and ice cream - loved all of it. The host at the door let us know when the table was needed back at the start of our meal - we had buckets of time and didn't once feel rushed at all. Thanks for the coffee! The servers were all very friendly and clearly love working in the place - good vibe all round. Finally - really good value menu and well-priced wine list. Highly recommend it - I will be back!.
Review of The Potthouse Bar And Grill

What a dive!!! I went once when the bar first opened and had a great night but recently booked a booth in The Sugar Room for a group of friends and myself and was shocked by the change in the place! Rude uneducated doorstaff, bland decor apart from a few tacky murals, no character whatsoever! Needless to say we left after 20 minutes and headed to The Northern Whig. Avoid this place like the plague!! Also you would think that trannie owned the place! He/she/it parades round half naked thinking it's a celeb and this place is advertised as classy?? Ha, what a joke!! Get rid of the trannie, get new trained staff instead of mouthy chavs and revamp the place if you want your custom back!!. Submitted by Cee

Review of The MClub

The M Club in Belfast is a bit of a dump, not somewhere to go if you want a good night out in the city. The music isn't too bad but the smell of urine ruins the vibe. I've been a few times now and can honestly say nothing has changed, the club still stinks.Drinks aren't expensive and they do have some great promotions running. My main concern is the M Club Bouncers (Doormen) - They are aggressive and unprofessional, if its closing time you might notice them pushing a few people about, they wouldn't be so tough if they were on their own. They also harass women and I've witnessed first hand an assault on a young girl so be very careful if you are going here.Their are plenty of good nightclubs around Belfast so don't let this one spoil your nightI'll not be back. .
Review of Ollie's

Im surprised by the amount of negative comments here. Generally, I think ollies has a lot going for it. To those who havent been, Ollies is a bit 'different'. 10 entrance fee is what Ive come to expect from most clubs these days so I cant really see what the fuss is about there. its quite dark and full of little corridors and it has two bars. If the smaller of those is supposed to be members bar its news to me cuz Ive been in there a few times and been served without a problem. But yes, you will have to queue a while. You will also have to pay a lot for it. our rounds (4 people most on spirits with mixer) were 35. There's nice leather seating with modern lighting and an area with dimly lit alcoves (all good if you pull I guess) the dance floor is big enough for the size of the club. Ive always found the music to be pretty good. the DJ has certainly always played my favourite 'at the time' bouncy tunes and the dance floor is always full to capacity. 2 is too much for the coats. The girl in front of me had to pay 4 because she put a cardigan and a coat on her hanger - not very fair. the bouncers have never been unpleasant to me and i was swiftly rescued from some idiot who lifted me up over his shoulder by a bouncer. they arent meant to act like santa claus, theyre meant to keep the peace. The toilets are faaar too small. but the smoking area has patio heaters! lastly, its a good bar for those of us who dont want to be surrounded by 18-23 year olds but rnt yet ready for places like Bar seven.thats my lot xx.
Review of Made In Belfast

what a joke ! a party of us were here on saturday night and it was absolute chaos from the start, there was 10 members in our party i personally booked it and confirmed booking later, thiugh when we arrived some door monkey said she didnt have our booking then we were interagated as to our validity ? ? ? ? after waiting 10 mins we finally get table if you could call it that, squeezed between two other parties we had to crawl under the table to get to bathroom or smoke ? ? ? ? disgrace ! further more the service if you could call it that was hardly professional everything had to be passed from the top of the table to the bottom, we should have been paid a wage, waiting 30 mins on order taken, 1 whole hour for food which was cold !!! Then to see the owner argue with not only her own staff but a paying customer (professional) glad i tried it will nnever be back !. Submitted by John

Review of The House

Was a refreshingly decent place for the first while but alas now it is populated by the ulster drinking team (I mean so called rugby squad) who if they trained as hard as they drank and chatted up pathetic groupies would be in contention for another European cup! Sadly for me the declination of a once nice bar is due to the fact that the type of people who go there because these local celebs go there. If you avoid post match Fridays nights its a pretty nice place with a nice cocktail menu (particularly mojitos) and decent grub. Submitted by MarkyG

Review of Northern Whig

Seems to be in a transition period between being what was once the place to be and a chav hangout frequented by people called Soupy and Big Rab. The service is the worst I have ever experienced worldwide due to in my opinion, every female in the place ordering cocktails and therefore creating a tailback of people who just want a few beers etc. They need more staff, less chavs and some atmosphere. Avoid.

Review of The Spaniard

Just a theme pub in disguise. People think its indie/retro chic is charming but its owned by a chain and tries too hard at being cool. Sadly it's about the best Belfast has to offer these days but agree with others about the staff. Attitude problem!!P:S at the last comment about those who don't get the staff. There should be nothing to 'get'. They are there to serve drinks, not socialise.. Submitted by MarkyG

Review of Made In Belfast

WOEFUL!! When we arrived the restaurant was practically empty but we still waited about 20 minutes for our order to be taken then waited 40 minutes for food, even though we had ordered ploughmans platters.... which are cold!!! When the platters arrived all they consisted of was a few slices of ham, a couple of pieces of bread and a chunk of cheese.... all that for 9.95!! Impressed?..... I don't think so!!The staff are rude and arrogant and the owner even had a row with one member of staff in the middle of the restaurant as the waitress had p*ssed off during there busiest time. Not exactly professional conduct!!. Submitted by Elaine

Was at the box over the weekend.. and i have to say i loved it. First time i'd ever been and it really was class inside it. Wasn't too busy so only part of it was open, but never had to even as much as queue at the bar...I dont understand what people have agaisnt the door man.. the one that we encountered was one off if not thee most friendly one ive ever come across.People that don't get in arn't getting in for a reason. I had a good few drinks in me and still got in sooo.. They do seem choosey hu the let in but i like that. People they do let it fit the bill and arn't 12 year old girls like a certain other club in the odyssey!!!So my advice give it a go but relli take into consideration what to wear!.
Re visited the Shankill after living away for many years. Took my wife on a wee Pub Crawl to show her around. Have to say I was AMAZED by the Rex.
I was in union street bar for the first time with my best friend who has come back from Canada. she has been going on about this brilliant place since she came here, so I thought why not give it a try, so I met up with her, and OMG not only a miracle to get her to stop work for a couple of hours she was right it is FANTASTIC I have told friends that they have to visit THE UNION we enjoyed the kareoke. as for the food and alcohol PERFECT its not often our friend is right where alchohol is concerned (as she only has sprite) but this time she was spot on, staff brilliant service brilliant food to die for as for atmosphere and entertainment just brilliant no complaint or negativities from canadians or southern irish keep up the good work.As lesbians I found it hard to find a gay bar that made me feel comfortable but thanks to our friend for telling us about it we shall be back.. Definately won't be back and would'nt recommend anyone to go to it for a night out. 10.00 to get in que at the bar to get drinks then to turn around and get them them spilt over you absolute waste of time, would have had a better night sitting in the house. .

Review of The Hill Tavern

King of the Hill wasn't in the Hill. For a start he commends the toilets. The gas chambers of Belsen were more welcoming than the toilets in the Hill. There's a hole in the roof of the toliets where people tried to break in - they took one look at the shambolic germfest below them and decided against coming any further. He goes on to say the bar doesn't have a TV. It has six. He was clearly in a different bar. Just a little footnote - how stupid are the people of Carnmoney? The same pub quiz has been running for 75 years. Surely they should have got all the answers by now.. Submitted by Graeme Cousins

Review of Box

I was absolutely appalled by the treatment my friend received when we went to Box on a night out in August this year!! A large, male bouncer barged his way through the crowd into the female toilets and proceeded to bang on the cubicle door until my friend was forced to open the door following his aggressive threats. He then physically removed her from the toilets and took her out a fire escape door. He tried to stop the rest of us following them out, God knows what his pervy intentions were with her. And no, he did not remove my friend as a result of any physical violence or mistreatment of staff.. she was merely crying, about something in no way related to our night out, yet he took it upon himself to remove her from the club for this reason. The bouncers and staff of this venue are complete scum. if this nightclub is aiming to create an upmarket environment and attract higher class clientelle, it would be in their best interest to recruit a completely new workforce who are up to the same standards!.
Review of The Limelight

I was an avid lover of the Limelight in my student days that ended in 2005. Since recently visiting though, my views have changed. I remember when Limp Bizkit/Linkin Park were shunned - the dance floor emptied at such tripe. Now though, there's chavtastic folk bopping away to these and other god awful music acts such as the Ting Tings. I asked the DJ if he had any Yeah Yeah Yeahs - he looked confused as if to say 'Who?' and went on to tell me he didn't have any of their music! I bet if i would have asked for a song from some mediocre new band they would have it. It's fair to say that i was disappointed in the music. The atmospgere is not the same and as for the bouncers! Well! They are young people on a power trip. Two of the kindergarden crew threw out a friend because he tapped an empty plastic cup into his group of friends...seriously ruined the whole night. Could they not pick on the dude in the corner who was taking drugs? Or the guys who were trying to molest girls on the dance floor? Or indeed the guys who were squaring up to each other half the night - no, because that would be doing their jobs! It's gained the nickname the Slimer - i can see why. The decent crowds most definitely are not attending this tainted venue now. What a let down..

Review of Bambu Beach Club

Beach Club is a good laff if you want a laid back night out. Bar staff are actually quite dead on wen you take the time to be polite to them. The only complaint is the toilets and the amount of underage girls in there, it gets a bit much wen you go to go to the toilet and there is girls that are 13-15 throwing up every where, not nice what so ever. PLEASE GET THE SINKS SORTED IN THE TOILETS. We always carry antibacterial gel and wipes in our handbags when we are goin there due to knowin the sinks are always broken. Overall its a students club, and for those who are complaining that its full of half naked millies, get over yourselves its called the BEACH CLUB, its all in the name.Beats the BOX hands down .
Tatu nup for sale-no loss. They sent vouchers door to door without closing date. We went two weeks later for our free glass of wine with a meal. Staff unhappy to accept vouchers. They then stopped selling small bottles of water -only large ones at 2.75 each-never went back so good riddance and the food wasa just average except the price.
Review of Made In Belfast

been a few times now and enjoyed it greatly due the the fab unique and not so matched decor. the buzzing atmosphere is great at the weekends yet chilled during the wk. the food is straight to the point yet some dishes could have more flavour.if you order the mussels expect the most ever!!theres lots and they are yummy!one great waiter who made the evening even more tasty yet one thing my table agreed on was the choice of tunes.bit too commercial house in relation to the crowd and style that is portrayed.maybe more soul, jazz or chilled house would suit.

How can you post a comment on a club that no one over a size 6 can actually get into. The conduct of the staff is disgusting, bar managers attitudes are unbelievable when you actually get to speak to them.My overall opinion of the Box is to avoid it in all cost its not worth your time standing in cue for unless your a size 6 tall blonde and easy. The people i feel sorry for is the blokes no matter what they actually wear they cant seem to get in so it feels like you have entered a womans only club..
Review of Made In Belfast

I had recommended Made In Belfast to a few friends, so 6 of us went for lunch on Saturday, and while the food was good, the service was so woeful. No one really cared that we had been sitting there for ages, and it wasnt even very busy. Our plates remained on our table for a long time after we had finished, we finally caught the attention of someone to order drinks, and the drinks never arrived. While the surroundings are very cool, i feel the need to remind the place that the service is just as important, if not more so that the food and the good looking staff. .

Review of The Taphouse

Was at the taphouse for an evening, music was great and had a fab table and seats for friends, the bad side was the bar staff, it would be hard to explain just how bad they were. One barman forgot your order several times, after having waited 30/45mins to be served. Not only that he also bypassed you to serve other people who only arrived at the bar 2,3 and 4 times! Many people there that night were very pissed of!! BAD TIMES!! :( .

Review of Rotterdam Bar

Best avoided and should have been knocked down...On recommendation (need to ditch that friend) trudged through building sites, gangs of kids to the Rotterdam. Very quiet as a band just getting going - seemed odd for a music weekend in Belfast.Only after drinks were ordered did bar staff ask for ?6 cover charge - no mention anywhere on pub or before - assumed it was a scam as we weren't Irish. Left drinks and left the pub - with a sour but dry taste in the mouth. Many many better bars in town - avoid this..

Review of Bellevue Arms

Visiting from Devon, we went to Mc Ginty's and Belle Vue Arms on consecutive nights and enjoyed the meals in both, especially the garlic sautee potatoes. As the name suggests, Belle Vue had the advantage of view over the city but Mc Ginty's had the edge totally when it came to service. The Mc Ginty's manageress was attentive and had total command of events in the restaurant, the staff were mature, warm and professional, the ambience was great - the adjoining bar was also lovely! By contrast, the Belle Vue staff were young, disinterested and apparently unsupervised, they brought the food but there was no interaction whatsoever. Nevertheless, both meals were good experiences and we will go to each pub on our next visit, cheers guys, Gerri and John Clay .
