They have a wide range of "craft beers" but that inevitably attracts the hipster types, and when they offer multiple on tap beers for people to order in one go to taste that leads to long hold ups at the bar. They also do cocktails but when I saw them mix them I wasn't impressed - absolutely no effort when shaking them! But if its for people who want to be seen drinking a cocktail rather than actually tasting a well mixed one then fair enough. The music is a central attraction at all times, featuring cool DJ sets and the Wednesday night open mic sessions. Clearing away the sofas from the downstairs bar and replacing them with smaller tables and chairs would 'fill up' what is often a large empty space and provide a central focus. Upon arriving wearing suitable attire suggested by staff we had been previously talking to, myself and a few others were point blank told. 'Not tonight' nothing more was explained just simply that . However hearing how bad it was inside from the unfortunate few who were allowed in I think I saved myself a lot of time and a lot of money at the over priced bar. The result is something that feels uninspired and didn't work for me but they may soon realise this and make changes. I didn't get the impression that this is the "luxury nightclub" it was advertised as, coupled with the usual drinks promos/typical generic DJ's playing the kind of chart rubbish you'd hear in the likes of Box (which also started off with the intention of being a luxury/VIP club). I just fail to see what they're adding to the nightlife here, however that may change.This may sound harsh, however I am simply using the fact that this is advertised as a luxury club that is really going to shake up the scene as a reference, and for me it failed to live up to that expectation on my visit.. The finish from the wooden structure outside to the exposed concrete slabs inside all feels a bit cheap. The lighting and sound was all a bit cheap given how much standards have improved of late.Service at the bar was very chaotic and slow but we can put that down to it being their first night hopefully. Worst thing though was the crowd, first night and it was pretty rough, only going to go downhill from here. As we were leaving there seemed to be some problem with lots of police outside. This didn't feel like a VIP club at all. Very disappointed, was hoping for an alternative to EL DIVINOS but alas no.. I work for a design company and I must say it's one of the most interesting new places I've been to in a while. From the subtle pop art references to daring colour blocking it just works so well. A few of my colleges and I were actually asked by our boss to go and take photos of it for him, hence how I discovered it. As for service or anything else I'm not entirely sure what it's like. . Whilst doing so I casually looked round me as you do, and noticed two girls coming down the stairs in the distance and then approaching the bar; the barman had just finished serving the previous customer and seamlessly asked the girls who had just approached the bar "what's yours?" Cue for me to tell him what I thought of his customer service skills and leave the bar with my wife for a nearby establishment where we were served with courtesy.I won't be back.. I am a gay man and I can observe things for myself.It is not difficult for anyone to see that the interior of the Marerick is tacky to say the least. The back wall of the Bar is decorated with twenty white plastic hands which appear to reach out a black painted wall. They reminded me of someone grasping at the customers hard earned cash. A cheap framed print hangs at an angle for another wall. A display of retro telephones decorate yet another wall, while two plastic figures covered with splashes of paint and wearing crash helmits stand sentinal at each side of the Bar counter. I thought that this was a rather childish attempt at being artistic.I am a keen traveller, i love the arts and music and have drank in Pubs as far apart as London, Dublin, Budapest, Sofia and Prague. The Maverick Pub is attempting to create an exclusive drinking Den atmosphere by being selective regarding whom they allow into the premises. I afterwards regarded my visit to the Maverick as being rather unfortunate and reminded me that I was indeed back in Belfast.. All the bad ones are people who've been turned away.I'm a bit of a regular to box, going usually once a week, occasionally once every two weeks. There have never been any fights or aggressive behaviour inside box or the odyssey. They have a specialist service to help those drunk, sick, etc. (The SoS bus outside the odyssey). The drinks are NOT watered down whoever said that? You can see them break the seal on the Vodka when they run out, and they just out it straight into your glass, if its too watery for your taste drink it before the ice melts or ask for the drink without ice! The Bouncers have only ever turned away friends of mine who were under 18, all those 18 have always got in. The main VIP area isn't that much better tbf, its �8 instead of the usual �6 (�7 after 11)entry, but My House is supposedly great, it's much more exclusive you need to be a member and literally apply haha, but there are apparently great benefits to doing so! The Music is the same as any club, it's remixed by the DJs there, don't pretend Ollies, Thompsons, Evissa, MClub, El D or wherever you go isn't. I don't normally write reviews but I do really love and appreciate the way I'm treated, and the great experience I receive night after night.I'll keep it short, but Maverick is a very fashionable mixed, gay bar, which targets a cool 20/30/40 something crowd. Not everyone gets it and as far as I can see Maverick are happy enough with that. So basically if you like to travel, experience new things, like fashion, art and music, you will love this place!If your not into any of those things, then stay well clear as you won't have a clue what it's about. A glitter ball reflected polka dots of light around the interior and reminded me of an Irish counry Dance Hall in the 1950s. The barman had no personality and some other staff looked liked they needed to be on antidepressants.The toilets are clostrophobic and have changed little from the previous ownership. The posters lining its walls were just bad taste ( In my opinion )The are more cheaper Pubs in Belfast city centre and with more atmosphere and a whole lot less damaging on the weekly pay cheque.I would give this Pub a no star rating.. They also seem to take great pride in the place and genuinely love working there! Drinks are averagely priced with monthly offers which are good. Once you vist here it's warm atomosoehere and cool vibe will keep you coming back for more. There's nothing to fault with this bar, I would suspect any negative comments made would be by union street staff who seem to take any opportunity to slag it off, which is really sad. It has to be one of the most bizarre bars I've ever been in! Old rough women and 17 year old boys grinding on the dance floor while and an elderly man DJs and talks a load of rubbish over the mic! People watching did keep us entertained for the first hour until a fight between two of the rough women kicked off, so fearing our lives we left. If this is a true representation of gay Belfast then I'm glad I moved away years ago! .
