It was my first and so far, my only time in the club. My four friends were already inside and one of them came out to get me. They all got in fine and when i walked to the door the Bouncer just looked at me and said "Go on ahead love."Now, I'm only 18, and have only been 18 since February. I'm a size 14 and I'm not particularly good looking.So you people who are complaining about not getting in? It must be something about YOU and not the doormen.I love the music on a Wednesday, which was the only night i went lol, with the indie downstairs (my personal favourite) and the R'n'B upstairs, good once i got drunk and needed to really dance.The only complaints I'll make about Rain are that the line for the toilet is always WAY too long and I don't like the only spirits after 1am thing. Sadly like a lot of bars in Belfast the Chelsea allows some, and I stress some, musicians to play music at such a volume the patrons can no longer talk to each other, shout, yes but where is the fun in that? Great staff, fantastic food shame about the management. The musician on Friday the 23rd of October, Keith Harris who mimed to backing tracks with some singing and playing, cleared a dozen seats with his noise. The management and Mr Harris failed to respond to requests for a reasonable volume but in vain. If you like your music very loud and your venue management very poor I guess the Chelsea Wine bar is the place for you. Don't worry ....there are plenty of empty seats.. My best friend and I were both made to feel so welcome by the amazing regulars, some of which I'm still in contact with. We stayed at the hostel across the road and every time our new friends in the royal saw us coming they would make sure our drink was ready for us as we walked in the door. To bite the bullet, my Husband and I decided to go a couple of saturdays ago, and we were certainly not disapointed. For about the first 10/15 mins, I just sat and looked at every detail inside,( i actually think i could have sat a whole lot longer enjoying the art used to decorate the inside, if my Husband hadnt made me look at the menu to decide what to eat!). Each light shade is a different colour and style, ranging from plain and traditional, to wild and wacky, and with mirrors, artistic purposeful grapheti on the walls, and a funky 70's style fridge, we were both very impressed. We ordered chowder, which was really very delicious, and filling, served with large slices of wheaten bread. The chowder was served in a tin bowl, (old fashionde style), and the bowl was set on a wooden board, holding the bread. presentation was lovely, and the general busy chatty atmosphere was really lovely. Would love to try their desserts as they look very tempting, and also their fish and chips, as it appears to be gourmet fish and chips, they looked very tasty!! Definately will be back!. The music's always good and the girls who run it knew me by name after a couple of visits. They know how to do hospitality. The food is good for the price too. I can't stand being jostled so tend not to go there at weekends because it is small, but its atmosphere is great.As for the surrounding bars, the guy below was right about estate agent types liking them. Usually have no problems with a queue as long as you get there around 9ish but this week was quite a queue due to it being freshers week. Some of the door staff can be very intimidating and rude and will reject sometimes, usually if your in a group over 4 or your some girls with guys. More likely to be rejected if your a rough looking guy. Atm the prices are decent as they got 5 entry fee into the club but all the drinks are 2.50 which is pretty decent. Music is excellent, never heard a song i didnt like in it. As for the toliets, they are clean and decent just some have no doors lol! On several recent occasions i have found SCRATCH to be a great venue for a night out. The doorstaff have been friendly and professional and the dancefloor, as i remarked to friends, was completely devoid of ice/glass/spilt drinks. Bouncers are an absolute joke! Each time got the "not tonight mate" and then when questioned why, "I dont have to give you a reason, now move to the side." The aggression off them was shocking. Ive heard decent things about inside from friends but I cant even go as I know they wont let me in which is ridiculous. Seem to let the usual girls in, short skirts, low cut tops etc. Pull the over 21 - which I am and student card - which I had. It was a friday, saturday and tuesday night I went down although not to late on each occasion. On the friday and sat I ended up going to Yellow which turned out to be decent nights and the bouncers were polite and well mannered, the way it should be!!
