I just happened to be cutting through Nikola Pasic Square today and found this. There was a DJ blasting music, a guy handing out glossy Nikon D3x and D700 brochures, men with heavy duty cameras, an Epson inkjet printer, a car on display, and models! It was like one big picture taking free for all.

It's so cool to point a camera at a stranger and their reaction is to strike a pose.

Another photo guideline is that you should photograph flowers in overcast light or shade, but I just took this photo on the spur of the moment as I was passing through the park. I don't really like the contrast of the shadows and sunlight, but I want to get back to posting photos regularly here so I'm going to go ahead and upload the darn photo anyway!

It was a bad day for trolleybuses

The street was more crowded than usual that day because there was a major problem with the trolleybus line and they all stopped running. Don't you love when that happens?

This is a pack of stray dogs at the park at Mitic's Hole near Slavija Circle. Which one do you think is the pack leader? From my observations it's the tiny one, who's furthest on the right.

Texture overlay on a photo

This is a snapshot taken on a windy day + a texture overlay.

An anonymous poster in my comments asked for a tutorial, so I'll try. This can be really simple to do. You just need an image of a texture to lay over your photo, it can be one you made or photographed yourself (I know a lot of people take texture snaps just for this purpose) or find some online, such as these very nice free textures.

Then all you do is open your main photo,
open the texture image in another layer that's placed above the main photo,
Set the blend mode of the texture layer to "multiply"
and that's it, you're done.
If your image doesn't look the way you want it to when you set the blending mode to "multiply", try "overlay" or some of the other blending modes to see which one works best with your particular photo and texture. And of course you can also tweak the texture's opacity level or saturation and so on until you're happy with the way it looks.

This is the entrance to Lilly, a chain of stores kind of like what in America is called a drugstore, selling makeup and toiletries and household cleaners, but until just this year they didn't have pharmacies in the stores. Now some of the stores have expanded to include that and I personally love it.

Right now we've got tons of snow so this picture doesn't show the current state of Belgrade, this was taken last week when we had a warm day and gorgeous skies.

This internet issue was a fiasco. First of all I'm a complete moron when it comes to internet connectivity because I've always had my brother to set everything up for me, but not anymore. Our internet provider kept telling us, "try this and call us tomorrow if it doesn't work (to supposedly give the modem time to reset I guess?" "we're sending a guy to you within 3 business days (weekend doesn't count)" and then tack another three days onto that. Finally two guys show up late one evening and after doing some stuff say, "Give the modem an hour and if it doesn't work take your modem in to exchange it, or even if it DOES work take it in" of course it doesn't work, we take it in when we can and then are told to wait another day for the internet company to somehow activate the modem on their end blah blah blah. Ohhh well. At least now it's pretty much working.
