Actun Tunichil Muknal (Cave of the Crystal Sepulchre) is one of the most popular Maya ceremonial caves in Western Belize and has been featured in National Geographic Adventure Magazine. It was named after the sacrificial chamber within the cave where the remains of a young woman were found, the bones of which have been completely covered by calcite from drip water, leaving them with a sparkling appearance. Fourteen burials have been found inside the cave and 1,400 objects including skeletons, ceramics, and stoneware left by the ancient Maya have been cataloged. The cave ...<div class="feedflare">

Belize Botanic Gardens
The Belize Botanic Gardens is nestled in a beautiful valley on 45 tropical acres along the banks of the Macal River just a short distance upstream from Chaa Creek. The gardens are home to a large variety of native Belizean and other exotic tropical plants. The mission of the Belize Botanic Gardens is to encourage sustainable agriculture practices, maintain conservation collections and engage in conservation education. Their aim is to inspire Belizeans and visitors alike to protect our leafy friends and their habitats by learning more about the ...<div class="feedflare">

Another popular inland destination: San Ignacio, where the rustic-chic Lodge at Chaa Creek tends to every traveler’s need with savory organic food, healing spa treatments and incredibly knowledgeable guided tours. After checking out the gorgeous “Belizean Blue” butterflies, I encountered the highlight of my trip: Xunantunich (or “Maiden of the Rock”) a wildly impressive Mayan temple from the top of which you can see the border between Honduras and Guatemala. After an exhausting climb—one that involved a lot sweat and bravery on this chica’s part—I stood at the top, felt ...<div class="feedflare">

Now what in the world does a 7 year old girl from Texas do in a tropical jungle? Go on a Treasure Hunt, of course! And that is just what she did. In fact, Olivia was the very first young explorer to sign up for Chaa Creek’s newest educational activity for kids, the Nature Quest Treasure Hunt. This adventurous mini-trek is lead by a professional naturalist guide and takes children on a mission of tropical discovery through the Chaa Creek Nature Reserve. Along the trail, the guide will point out ...<div class="feedflare">

My husband and I just returned from a week in Chaa creek for our honeymoon. We had a grand time, and armed with some knowledge from this trip, we would definitely return again&#8230;and again.
The Best Parts:
The staff - always had a smile, were knowledgeable on every topic we questioned, and went above and beyond to accomodate all of our needs
The cottages - The Macal Cottage &#8212; beautiful and lavish in everyway (but a little close to the other cottages), and the Spa Villa was like a home away from home ...<div class="feedflare">
