DIY Glamorous Christmas Gifts

I get really excited this time of year to wrap all the gifts I purchased for my family and friends. I like to take the time to make each gift look special and pretty.

My love for a beautifully wrapped gift started with my first job in high school. I worked for a high end department store in Denver, in their gift wrap center. I learned the very essence of gift wrapping, with embellishments, different textures and of course, how to make the edges of the gift crisp.

As I’ve grown older, my fondness of gift wrapping has evolved. Black paper is one of my favorites as it is both, powerful and chic. The unexpected elements, such as vintage brooches, flowers, crystals, feathers and pearls, is what sets my gifts apart from any others. This year I went with a more glamorous Christmas theme, so I designed my gift wrapping accordingly.

To create these beautifully wrapped gifts, I start with a few essentials. I choose my colors and purchase the wrapping paper {black, white with blush polka dots, a glitter blush and a black striped}; and ribbon - satin, velvet and striped in a variety of widths, textures and colors to match my theme; a selection of baubles, brooches, ornaments, flowers and any other decorations I can find to add to my gifts.

I always "shop" my house to see what I already have on hand before going shopping - this saves on time and money which is a BONUS in my book. I lay all of the elements out so I know what I have to work with. I shop all year for paper and ribbon {I may or may not have a slight obsession} so by the time Christmas comes, I usually have a variety to choose from.

Once the gifts have been wrapped, you can mix and match ribbons and embellishments. This is the fun part, you can make it as fancy as you'd like or as simple, it's totally up to you, and what's even better? There is no right way or wrong way. I typically like a very simple bow so the decorative elements I choose, really stand out and sometimes a simple bow is all that is needed depending upon the paper you choose.

Another option, if you are short on time, but still want a beautifully wrapped gift, is using the charming gift boxes in place of wrapping paper which still pairs well with your favorite ribbon and baubles. I used several black and blush pink stacking boxes, as well as white and gold ones under my tree, and I have to say I love the look of both the wrapped boxes as well as the colored gift boxes.

I'm all about the presentation, it's nice to put the extra love and attention into something you are giving to a loved one or friend. A few years ago my mom gave me all of my grandmother's brooches, which I have used on a several of the gifts I given.

Dessert Tray + Whipped Cream Recipe

I’m super excited you stop by today. I am going to share with you how to make the most delicious light and fluffy homemade whipped cream. Whenever we are invited to a friends house for dinner, I always like to bring a treat for the family whether it be a beautiful well thought out housewarming gift, or a hearty charcuterie board or in this case, a very healthy and delicious dessert tray.

Here is the list of ingredients I used for the dessert tray:

*Fresh homemade whipped cream

*Madeline Cookies (both chocolate dipped and regular)

*Fresh Raspberries

*Fresh Blackberries

*Fresh Strawberries

Of course, you can use any fresh berries you would like. I did have some fresh pineapple as well as sliced nectarines on the side.

If your kids are anything like mine, they will devour this tray.

Now on to the Homemade Whipped Cream recipe.

3 Ingredients:

*2 Cups Heavy Cream

*1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar

*1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract (or whatever flavor you’d like)

Heavy Cream or heavy whipping cream must be cold
Powdered Sugar or Confectioners Sugar will give the whip cream its sweetness
Pure Vanilla Extract is an essential part of this recipe as it provides full flavor. If you’d prefer to use other extract flavors, you may want to try lemon, peppermint, orange or Irish cream

Directions:

Once you return from the grocery store, pop the heavy cream into the fridge and leave it there for about an hour. At the same time, take your metal mixing bowl and whisk and pop those into the freezer. Its essential to have all of these items cold. It will help the whip cream to hold it’s shape better.

I used my Kitchen Aide mixer to make the whipped cream, but you can certainly use a hand mixer as well.

Once the powdered sugar and vanilla extract are measured out, pull out the mixing bowl and heavy cream which was being chilled.

Working quickly, pour the heavy cream, powdered sugar and extract into the cold mixing bowl.

Whisk the ingredients on low, gradually increasing the speed until you reach high. Whisk until stiff peaks start to form - every mixer is different but somewhere between 60-90 seconds. You don’t want to whisk too much as the whip cream will start to get chunky (curdle). If this happens, mix in a tablespoon of fresh heavy cream at a time, until it gets creamy again.

Transfer to a chilled clear bowl and it’s ready to serve. If you’ve made more than you need, this recipe freezes very well. You can keep it in an airtight container for up to two months.

Back to school is here!

Several years ago, I use to design printables for a living and now as my kids have grown, I want to help you with the back to school stress of teacher gifts. While gifts are not necessary, they are always appreciated. Encouragement and support from parents means the world to our teachers. I have pulled together some budget friendly ideas to go along with the FREE instant downloads below.

Directions for the printables:

*Below each image is a pdf link for you to click on for the printable of your choice

*Download it and save it to your computer

*You can print it at home or send it to have printed at a local print shop {Office Depot, Sam's Club or Costco}

*Depending on the size of the tag, you will get several per sheet

*Have it printed on HEAVY white cardstock

*Cut out each tag

*Punch a hole for ribbon or string, or simply attach the tag with tape or glue

*Add your child's name with a short message on the back

Sweet Year Tags

Who doesn't love chocolate, especially Dove? I designed these tags to resemble a chalkboard. You can attach the tag with a coordinating ribbon to a jar and fill it with chocolates or mints. I bought this jar here but these jars are cute too!

School Rules Tags

With school supplies as a must for teachers, I like to help them out and purchase a few necessities like rulers. These tags fit perfect with a set of new rulers for the classroom. This tag would also be fun to add to a box or tub with several items to reflect rules of the classroom for the teacher - like no gum {give him/her a pack of gum}, no food or drink {buy a gift card for the teachers favorite lunch place or a new insulated water bottle} and wash your hands {a great smelling hand sanitizer}.

Color My World Tags

Add these tags to a box of colored pencils, crayons, dry erase markers {or these fun colors} or regular markers + a stress reliever coloring book. I added it to some fun colored pencils with jute.

Remarkable Tags

A remarkable year is the best way start a new year, don't you think? I love pulling out all the brightest colors of a marker pack like I did here with Sharpies and tying on the tag with bakers twine.

ABC 123 Jar Wraps

This jar idea is geared more towards the very young ones PreK-2nd grade. These tag wraps fit this jar perfectly and can hold a variety of goodies inside. For example mints, hard candy, Dove chocolates, M&Ms.

Smooth Year Tags

I added these tags to a mason jar {8oz /16oz} that I painted and added glitter to the bottom as a DIY gift and filled it with Dove chocolate - are you seeing a trend? I love Dove chocolate and I'll use any excuse to buy some! lol Add these tags to any jar, bottle, container, bag of candy, or anything else you can think of to spoil your child's teacher(s). Remember its not necessary, but VERY much appreciated!

If you've been following me for any length of time, you know I love everything southern! The styles, the decor and of course the gingham and monograms!

If you like the gingham print trend going on right now, but unsure you want an entire outfit in it, then opt for an accessory - a belt, scarf, headband, handbag or shoes. These options can become a statement piece for your outfit.

Simple Kitchen Halloween Decor + a FREE Printable

Hi friends! Even though it has taken me WAY longer to decorate for fall than it usually does, I am happy to say I finally have some of the house decorated! Fall is one of my favorite times of year, with the cooler temps, pumpkin everything and all the seasonal treats we can eat.

I usually keep my fall decor pretty simple. This year I included my all time favorite fall decoration ~ Mr. Funnybones! I can't decorate without him. He tends to move throughout the house during this time of year {you've seen him many times - here and here}. Different sized black bats adorn the kitchen cabinets as well as the upper half of the wall and a metal haunted house, I've had for years sits in the background behind Mr. Funnybones. It adds just the right amount of Halloween.

Mr. Funnybones was having so much fun during the photoshoot, at one point he donned a witches hat! To add a little pop of color I picked up these beautiful faux orange peonies and added a mini wood Blessed sign along with a ceramic pumpkin and faux pears in my woven bread basket.

To add height and a little more texture to the kitchen, I placed my large round marble/wood cutting board behind the range and included some faux wheat stalks. Placing a few neutral colored pumpkins ties the color scheme together. Can you tell Mr. Funnybones is tired of being photographed? He appears to be ready to jump off the counter. LOL

Fall Pumpkin Table Runner

It's finally feeling like fall here in Dallas, so I am sprinkling pumpkins around the house. I love all the colors they come in now and wanted to share a simple fall pumpkin table runner with you.

I pulled out some of my fall decor tubs and dug out my pumpkins - most of them. It is crazy to see the amount of pumpkins I have, but I am definitely not mad about it! A friend of mine told me recently, the white pumpkin weren't popular until about 2005. See those white pumpkins on my table? I am pretty sure I painted those when my daughter was a baby, which would have been around 2004. Was I ahead of the times? Not sure, but I know I loved the look of the white pumpkins then and still love them now.

On to the tutorial for this beautiful table runner, I started with an orange and white buffalo check throw as my base. As I started to build the runner up, I knew I wanted to incorporate my white pumpkins and taper candles, so I placed those items next. Candles not only provide an ambience, but add subtle beauty to your decor. The smaller green pumpkins are the perfect size and shape I was looking to add in, as they make the color in the garlands pop. My eucalyptus garland is a staple in most of the tablescapes I style, {see it here and here}it tends to bring a little of the outdoors in. I simply weaved two separate garlands under and around the pumpkins I wanted to use. I do love the orangish-red pumpkin I've had for years, and knew a pop of orange was needed. It's funny, I am not much of an orange pumpkin fan, I love the greens, pinks, yellows and whites all in the various shades. But being from Colorado the presence of orange, is quintessential with the fall season. The ceramic pumpkin soup bowls I shared awhile back on an Instagram story also made the cut for this runner. I like mixing up not only colors but textures, like the mini velvet Jack-Be-Little pumpkins {also known as Baby Boos, Munchkins or Sweetie Pie}, it tends to appeal to the senses and makes it more believable and life-like. Shop your yard, look for anything you can add such as pinecones, acorns, berries or leaves, it won't cost you anything and it adds dimension to your table.

The temps are finally falling here in Dallas, it was 70 this morning when we woke up! It felt so nice and such perfect fall weather. It got me in the mood to start pulling out all my fall decor.

Teen Girl Beach Themed Bedroom Inspiration + Decorating Tips

A few weeks ago, my daughter asked if we could re-decorate her room with a beach theme. She knew she wanted the classic beach colors of turquoise, coral and yellow. So we started to build our Pinterest board with inspiration.

We found the perfect canvas through a company called Photowall. Have you heard of them? They are a custom wallpaper, canvas print, framed print, poster company in Sweden. You can even use your own photo to create any product they carry! How fabulous is that? I was beyond excited to work with them. They literally have thousands of motifs to look through. Since we knew the theme we were looking for, we searched BEACH and fell in love with one product in particular. Once we ordered the product we chose, the process was very easy!

I was very impressed with the quality as well as the fast shipping.

Everything you needed to put the canvas together was included! I love that!

My husband helped us put it all together, but quite honestly, I could have done it on my own. The instructions were very easy to understand and the product was easy to put together.

We laid everything out on the kitchen table and got to work.

I love how her room turned out and the lifeguard tower canvas adds the perfect touch to her Beach Themed Room!

Here are five tips for creating this teenage room for my daughter:

Tip 1: Throw pillows are the perfect way to add instant color without the expense of a new comforter. You can never have too many pillows on your bed!

Tip 2: Use layers in your bedding. A throw blanket is always a good idea, it not only provides extra warmth, but it adds a different texture.

Tip 3: Instead of adding photos to the top of the dresser, create a gallery wall to tie everything together. Since my daughter's walls are a light gray they tend to go with everything.

Tip 4: Adding a rug, layered or not, gives the room warmth as well as a fun lounging spot.

Tip 5: A few bed rest pillows or a bench at the foot of the bed provides additional sitting space for friends.

4th of July Ice Cream Party + Free Printable

I know this year 4th of July will look different from the past, but BellaGrey Designs is here to help you! Whether you are celebrating with 4 or 10 people, you can create this fun Ice Cream Party!

Gather up your supplies - toppings, spoons and bowls {I used these ice cream waffle bowls to hold some of our toppings}. Whats great about these bowls are they are edible so you can eat them once all the toppings are gone - that's a BONUS in my book!

Some topping ideas would be, gummies, marshmallows, chocolate chips, granola, brownie bites, Oreo cookies, fresh fruit, pretzels - the list is endless. I found the gummy stars and the red, white and blue hard candies at World Market.

Once you have your toppings together, you are ready to put the final touches on. Shop your house for anything that is red, white or blue - I am always amazed at what I find! Lay a simple tablecloth down on a table {it can be red, white or blue} then start adding the waffle cone bowls with your toppings to trays or decorative plates. Don't forget water, ice cream always seems to make people thirsty.

Prop Craft Closet Makeover + Tips to Organizing a Prop Craft Closet

A few weeks ago, I finally decided to organize my Prop/Craft Closet in my home office. I have no excuse since we have been in our new home for almost a year and my office is the last area that still needed to be organized. So today I am sharing a before and after as well as a few tips!

Before I started, it was a big mess in the middle of the floor, that I continued to add to as each holiday and season came around. I would literally walk around it! NOT proud of that at all!

I just wasn't sure where to begin, everything was crammed together and there wasn't any organization to my chaos, does this sound familiar? If so, keep reading for tips on how I tackled my clutter and so can you!

In our old home, I had a larger space with a MUCH larger closet + a large wardrobe closet I used for storage as well. Since buying our new home, I have a much smaller area to fit everything into and since I no longer style children's parties, I donated all of those props and supplies to our school. Keeping everything in clear plastic bins allowed me to see what I had on hand at a glance, but since redirecting my niche to more home decor and fashion I no longer need much of what I had on hand.

MY 8 TIPS {keeping the three rules of organization in mind - visibility, accessibility and flexibility}:

Organize one area at a time
Give yourself plenty of time to get the job done - don't rush if you don't have to
Go through the clutter and either donate or throw out what you don't want or use any more - I use the two-year rule of thumb
Take inventory of what you have left over, does it all belong in that particular space?
Use all the space you have, including the vertical space above closet shelves/doors
Color coordinate tablecloths, napkins and ribbon - so it's easier to find
Organize like items together - ie. tablcloths, craft supplies, seasonal items
Label everything that isn't visible

Easter Brunch Tablescape

Easter is one of my favorite holidays because it not only represents the Resurrection of Jesus, it also represents spring and all of it's beauty! Traditionally when you think of an Easter tablescape palette, you think of pastels such as soft pinks and baby blues, and light shades of yellow and green. This year, I chose to go with a hint of outdoor spring, which feels a bit more fresh and happy. I don't know about you, but I can always use more happy in my life! I added pops of blush pink to the botanical table runner and gold accents to each place setting. To bring the outdoors in, I opted to omit the tablecloth and create a more natural look.

As I started to build the tablescape, I knew I wanted a more natural runner, one not made strictly of fabric, but of items you would find outdoors. Sprigs of lambs ear, boxwood, eucalyptus and peonies instantly came to mind. I happened to have all of those on hand, I simply laid two eucalyptus garlands side by side and intertwined them together. I then added in the lambs ear, boxwood sprigs and the blush pink peonies, which gave it a touch of color and softness. It came together beautifully and set tone for the rest of the table. The final touch was to add in a few paper mache bunnies to give the centerpiece texture.

Each place setting started with a dark colored teal cloth napkin, which grounded the table setting as well as gave it some depth. Burlap ruffle placemats tie in the natural elements of the rest of the table. While, simple white plates were covered with a light aqua dessert plate, some are plain while others have dainty white flowers on them. I like to mix and match the plates, napkins and glassware, while keeping in the same color family. This adds a little whimsy and fun to the tablescape. Topping each dinner plate are aqua napkins and a DIY paper bird nest, which were filled with blush pink speckled eggs.

The beautiful aqua egg cups and blue and teal drinking glasses add in additional elements to the blue undertones of the tablescape.

DIY Tutorial Palm Leaf Wreath

This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday and since we are social distancing during the COVID19 pandemic, we will be celebrating at home! Several people in my neighborhood have decided to

hang palm wreaths on our front doors to celebrate the season. I took this opportunity to create a DIY and am sharing the tutorial with you today.

A few of these supplies you may already have on hand.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

4 branches or 8 Palm leaves
Glue gun and glue sticks
Jute twine
1.5" wide ribbon
Monofilment or clear fishing line

TIME NEEDED: 30 minutes

DIRECTIONS:

First, lay out your leaves the way you want them to look for your wreath. For the palm leaves I used, there were two large leaves per branch, so I simply adjusted the leaves and spread them out.
Use the jute twine to hold the branches together. Wind the jute around the entire base of the branches and hot glue the loose end once you are done.
The branches should now be secured, I wrapped a short piece of ribbon {15"} around the base and tied it into a flat knot {meaning I tired to make the knot as flat as I could, knowing I was adding a longer bow and ribbon to the top}
Cut the short ribbon tails either at an angle or into a V cut. To cut the ribbon in a V cut, fold your ribbon tail in half and starting at the open ends, cut at a diagonal.
Next, add your longer ribbon{30"}with a bow. Make the bow before adding it to the wreath and hot glue to the "flat knot" of the shorter ribbon
Measure how long you want your wreath to hang from the wreath hanger and cut that length from the monofilment. I like to use this monofilment {fishing line} so the string isn't noticeable.
Enjoy your new wreath.

I did tack the shorter ribbon to the branches so you could see this ribbon better. I love the way it turned out and the short time it took me to make it.

{Recipe} Lemon Herb Crockpot Chicken

If you are like me, I love an effortless delicious dinner for my family! This Lemon Herb Crockpot Chicken is perfect for this. While we are held up in our homes for the next few weeks while the world tries to get a handle on the COVID-19 pandemic, I thought I would share an effortless meal you can make with a few ingredients, you may already have on hand.

I used boneless, skinless tenderloins because I had them on hand, but you can certainly use chicken breasts or thighs.

Ingredients:

7-10 tenderlions {4-6 breasts or 6-8 thighs}
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp Italian Seasoning
3 tbsp minced garlic
1/2 stick of butter, quartered
Zest of half a lemon
Juice of half a lemon
1 14oz can Chicken Broth/Stock

Directions:

In a 6oz crockpot, place chicken in the bottom and add salt/pepper
Pour broth or stock over chicken
In a separate bowl, combine Italian seasoning and minced garlic. Sprinkle over chicken.
Place lemon zest on chicken and gently squeeze the half lemon, making sure the juice flows over the chicken.
Cut butter stick into 4 equal quarters and place on top of chicken
Cover and cook on low for 6 hours
Serve over steamed rice and garnish with sliced lemons

**because I used tenderloins, the meat fell apart making shredding easy, but if you use breasts or thighs the meat will hold it's shape.**

Peach Cobbler - Almost Homemade

While we are trying to live our new normal, with the coronavirus pandemic all around us and most everything closed, I am finding new meals and desserts to make for my family. A few months ago, my youngest requested Peach Cobbler and since we were so busy with sports, I didn't have time to make it, until now.

I started out with a box mix

which was very good on its own, but I decided to kick it up a notch and add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/3 teaspoon nutmeg {FYI nutmeg is a seed, not a nut - since you know my kids are anaphylatic to all nuts and nut products}. These two added ingredients made all the difference in the world! I baked it according to the directions on the box.

It came out golden brown and made my whole house smell delicious!

Topped mine with fluffy whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon for good measure! It was as delicious as it looks! I love baking for my family, but I don't always have time. This box mix from Calhoun Bend Mill saved me time and when I added a few other simple ingredients, it tasted almost homemade!

Valentine's Day, Give the Gift of Memories - 5 ideas

Are you pro candy or flowers for Valentine's Day? I love both, but this year, I'm leaning towards an experience I can enjoy with my husband {and kids - just keeping it real *wink}.

Don't get me wrong, I love fresh flowers and candy, but those don't last long. Making memories with my family will last forever! Creating new memories and starting new traditions are becoming more and more popular, especially with the millennials. They prefer to spend money on experiences rather than things. Even though I am not an millennial, I am loving this trend! I discovered I have enough "things" when we moved this past summer. Moving gave me the opportunity to purge my house and I am all about having the minimum now.

Here's a list of things you could do with your valentine or family to make memories:

1) Have a pizza party. Each family member makes their own individual heart pizza.
2) Have a picnic indoors. This time of year, it is pretty chilly outside. Gather some blankets, build a fire and make or purchase dinner.
3) Attend a cooking/baking class together
4) Visit the planetarium
5) Go to the drive-in movies

The possibilities are endless if you give it a little thought. What would your Valentine experience be if you could choose? Mine would be to spend the entire day with my family baking, playing games and having a dance party!

A Silver and White Christmas Tablescape

Inspiration to set an elegant Christmas tablescape

Today I am sharing an elegant Christmas tablescape and a few tips for setting your holiday table in style. I have shared many Christmas tablescapes with you over the years, but my love for a white and silver tablescape is strong this year! It reminds me of the Colorado snow and how much I miss home! Although we rarely get snow here in Dallas, my table will be set for the occasion.

When I was a kid, I was in awe of how my mom set a beautiful table for our family to gather around at Christmas time to enjoy all of our favorite foods. Now as I design my own, I want to stick with the tradition of gathering my family together around the dinner table because I think the table should be a reflection of the celebration!

I like designing my table with both old and new pieces. For this table I started with a beautiful white tablecloth, which makes a good foundation and incorporated a lot of texture on top - runner, napkin rings and plate decor. Each place setting is a combination of a smooth antique silver charger and my go-to classic white dinner plate, while my grandmother's stemware adorn the table setting beautifully. I chose a shimmery silver runner and ran mini berry bushes along it to add color and movement to the table. Keeping the centerpieces low is key when setting a table, this way guests can see and converse with everyone. The mini berry bushes add a pop of color, but it's not overwhelming.

TIPS:

Bring the outdoors in - on every table I design, I always add in greenery or flowers or some type of outdoor element {faux or real}
For this table I used a soft silver palette to keep everything grounded
Adding pops of color throughout your table keeps the design festive yet polished
Think about lighting - will your dinner be lit by daylight, overhead light or candlelit? There is something about flickering candles that adds instant warmth to a table
Set your table before your guests arrive - this helps your guests feel welcome and frees you up to mingle with them

{Recipe} Caramelized Pears with Cinnamon Ice Cream

I like pears anytime of year, but there is something about this time of year, that I really enjoy a good pear recipe. This one will make you want to curl up on the coach with a good book with the warmth of the fire warming your house.

I love cooking fruit with cinnamon and brown sugar, it seems to warm me from the inside out! This recipe is definitely one of those recipes for a cold fall or winter day.

Ingredients:

Caramelized Pears:

2 Medium sized Bartlett Pears cut in half with seeds spooned out
3 Tablespoons unsalted Butter
1 Tablespoon per pear Brown Sugar
1 Tablespoon water

Cinnamon Ice Cream:

1/2 Gallon Vanilla Ice Cream
2 Tablespoons Ground Cinnamon

Directions:

Caramelized Pears:

In a large skillet, melt butter on medium high heat, then add pears cut side down. Cook for 4 minutes. Turn pears over and sprinkle brown sugar on top. Turn temperature down to medium and add water to skillet and let the brown sugar melt into the water - making sure to swirl these ingredients so they don't burn. As the brown sugar and water melt together, carefully spoon this liquid over the tops of the pears. Cook for additional 4 minutes. Remove for heat. Place one pear on dessert plate and pour a small amount of brown sugar mixture onto plate. Add cinnamon ice cream.

Cinnamon Ice Cream:

In a large bowl spoon out the entire contents of the ice cream, add the ground cinnamon and mix together. Place ice cream into freezer for 15 minutes to harden. Once it has hardened, scoop out into bowl next to caramelized pear.
