What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key), is a non-invasive gentle yet powerful Japanese form of energy therapy that balances the body, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually, enabling the body to do what it does best — heal itself. The word Reiki is derived from the Japanese words, Rei “universal” and Ki “life force or life energy.” Based on the idea that an unseen “universal life force” flows through each of us, Reiki healing is used as therapy for an array of emotional, spiritual and physical remedies. Popular for thousands of years across Asia because of the belief that physical pain stems from emotional, mental and spiritual states. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then one is more prone to being sick or to feel stress. If it is high, one is more capable of being healthy with a positive sense of well being. Therefore, Reiki goes beyond the symptoms to the root cause of the problem.

What is the Reiki is a Reiki Treatment like?
A Reiki healing treatment balances your system as a whole working to restore order to the body. People have different experiences, but most find it extremely relaxing and effortlessly meditative.

One thing to note is that Reiki massage differs from the traditional massage where therapists knead and rub muscles. In Reiki, the therapist’s hands are used to channel energy from the head to the seven centers (chakras) of the body.

Chances are you’ve heard a story or two about low standards at area Nail Salons. I’ve had friends who have gotten serious infections from unsterilized tools….but we still need our weekly manicure- pedicure!

At Bella Sante we autoclave (surgically sterilize) every implement, if the salon you visit is not using proper sanitation, that manicure may be more risky then you think. If nail equipment is not properly sanitized it can lead to infections that can be painful, unattractive, and even life threatening.

Here are a few signs you should look for next time you get your nails done:

The implements should not be stored in an open tray, and should not be used from one client to another (you will never see this in any of our day spas)

Cotton balls, orangewood sticks, nail wipes and disposable towels should never be re-used (this is disgusting and unconscionable)

Tools like metal files, cuticle scissors, tweezers, and electric drill bits should be cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized by autoclave, dry heat sterilizer or

UV light (we like the autoclave because we can have a fresh set of tools for each guest)

Lastly, licensing is very important. Every Nail Technician needs to be licensed in the state of Massachusetts. Ask to see their license if it’s not already on display.

At Bella Sante we employ over 40 Estheticians and here is what they say:

Many of the brands we sell at Bella Sante use the “cosmetic jar” indicator. Check out the back of most any cosmetic product you have and you will notice a jar with “24M” inside of it. This indicates the product is generally good for 24 months after opening. Basically, once you’ve opened it, the product begins to “oxidize”. After that 24 month period (or whatever number is in the cosmetic jar-might be 6, 12 or 18 months), the product may have deterioration linked to microbial contamination. This “jar” is required in Europe, but many American companies use it as a courtesy to their consumers. If you used “natural” or “organic” products, they typically expire quicker…check with the manufacturer.

As a general rule, if you are cleaning out your cosmetic cabinet, toss anything that you know you’ve had for over 2 years. If the color or smell is off something is not ok and you should throw it away.

By far the most important product to replace often is SUNSCREEN- it will not protect you or your children if it is not fresh- replace it often and use it liberally, even in the cold Winter months.
