Suvannah was the greatest cat ever...if only she would've stayed with me a bit longer. I've always said it wasn't her time to go, but it was.

Her story starts out when she was born into the world from her dear mother, in my Aunt's house.

My aunt had millions of 'stray' cats running around her house, for their job there as mousers.

My brother and I ran over there as soon as my aunt told us that one of "her" cats was pregnet.

Suvannah's mother gave birth to five kittens:
Bo and Bee two twin orange tabby males, Cali, a calico runt female, and Marco and Suvannah. They were both gray and black longhair mixes.

Everyday my brother and I went over there to see the kittens, especially Marco and Suvannah.

My brother liked boy cats, and I liked girl cats. So, he liked Marco, and I loved Suvannah.

But, whenever we would grab them, they would switch humans; Suvannah would go to my brother, and Marco, to me.

On one very special day, we went over to choose a cat. We couldn't decide which one to pick for it was a hard decision for cat lovers and young kids.

So, our parents told us to leave, while they stayed there.

They came back a while later with Suvannah.
I wanted Marco, but Suvannah would do.

Over time, Suvannah and I grew more closer and closer than her and my brother.

She was just a real great cat. Everyday after school, I would be greeted by her.

We would always play ALL day until we just wore ourselves out and plopped down on the ground, were we would lay next to each other, and stare into each other's eyes.

Suvannah was a real charm at night. She would always either sleep in between my feet, behind my back, or around my neck. Sometimes when she wasn't tired, but I was, she would just lay on my chest, purr, and make muffins(a relaxing movement of paws).

At some times, I would be the teacher or mother, and she would be the student or daughter. At othe rtimes, it would be the other way around.

We grew soo close, that we were twin sisters, and then we were one.

Everything changed when mating season came. For the cause of not being spayed, Suvannah was in heat.

She turned into a viscious little spitting beast. She would always lay on the ground and stratch her limbs luxuriously and rub on my other cat.

When I got to close, she would hiss, spit, and claw at me.

When she would get too rough, my mom would grab her by the scruff of her neck, and toss her into the bathroom, and shut the door.

I was usually crushed at those times, but I knew that I would get hurt if I went in there.

I really longed for the days that we would cuddle, play, and sleep together.

One night, Suvannah was surprisingly in a calm and relaxed mood.

I took my chance and created a fun game. I set her in a laundry basket and pushed her up and down the hallway. She surprisingly tolerated it.
The next day when I was at school, my mom took Suvannah to the vet to get her spayed.

I knew she was getting fixed and was so excited to come home to see my renewed loving cat.

I rushed through the door too see my mom sobbing, and the cat carrier open, but no cat in sight.

I was already in tears when I asked my mom, "Where-where's Suvannah?!"
My mom answered, "She's gone."
My eyes were a waterfall when she explained that her lungs dropped in the vet's office during the proceedure of getting spayed. I later learned that it was caused by inbreeding, for it was ovious because her bloodline was full of inbred stray mousers.

A while later, my mom brought her body home. She was in a plastic bag, and she was ice cold.
My mom held the bag while my dad dug a hole in the ground next to our house.

I stroked her with stiff and shaking fingers, crying silently.

We set her into the hole and we each said some words. I told the whole story of her life, laughing fainlty at the funny times.

My mom, dad, and brother went inside while I stayed crouched by her grave.

I went inside a while later, and inside I headed toward our couch.

I saw this bright white light that formed a cat.

Suvannah. She winked, smiled, and then faded away.

I was going through a rough time in my life. Almost to the point where I thought life couldn't get any worse. My friends wouldn't listen, my parents always seemed so distant, after the divorce. My ex boyfriend and I had a very rough break up. I felt like... No one understood me. And each morning I would wake up, I would just feel so lonley. It must have been a sign from God.. because on the day that I planned to stop living, and just give up.. I took a walk. To try to find ONE more reason to live. But I just couldn't. So as I was walking back home, from my hopeless walk... I came across a kitten. He looked as if he had been through as much as I had. In that moment, I didn't feel so alone. I felt connected to this feline. I felt like I had found my bestfriend, my saviour. The hope I was searching for had finally been found. I took the cat home, which was hard, because the cat wouldn't come to me. But finally, it gave in, and trusted me. Which made me feel beter than I have in months. When I got home I went up to my room, and just laid there with my new found kitten. My mother came up to my room and handed me a letter from the college I dreamed of always going to.. And it was an acceptance letter. The next day, I became friends with the man I am married to now. I started to see a new life, and ever since that one day. The one day that I found my precious kitten.. my life has been renewed. And which is why, my kitten, Miracle, is named Miracle. I love my cat, my bestfriend, my savior. MY HOPE WAS FOUND!

I have a tuxedo cat and it is the BEST cat I have ever seen!! They are a friend when you are down, and a warm fuzzy critter to have around. I wouldn't trade my tuxedo for a suit is what I always say, and I wouldn't trade my tuxedo cat for another kind of cat. Why have hamburger when you can have a steak???

hi, i have a female white cat named sugar. she has green eyes, like the cat in the above photo, but longer hair. i believe she is a persian, but i am not sure because she is not deaf and does not have blue or mitch-matched eyes. she has fluffed and poofy fur on her legs and tufts between her paws.

Apr 24, Hachi, the kitten who changed our lives

Hachi, my 9 months old kitten, makes me look back to the day when I first met her ... 8 months back my youngest sister in law came to my room and asked if I had any dropper. I was curious, and on enquiry she told me she saw a kitten this afternoon lying by the street, nearly dying of hunger. She was so thin and so weak that she couldn't even walk! So she brought her home. I went to see the kitty and at once remembered my cat who died 5 years back. For the next few days Hachi stayed in our garage and used to mew at anyone who passed by. After about 10 days I gave her a bath and brought her to my room. At once she won the heart of my husband who was just not ready to send her back to the garage! So Hachi stayed. With us. In our bed. 2 months passed. She grew closer to us. Won't eat unless one of us is present. Started mewing early in the morning to get into my bed. Snuggled onto us while we're fast asleep. Then suddenly her hind legs became paralysed. Dunno how or why. Visited the local vet, but you know how they are in a developing country like ours. He kept advising me on rabies vaccines without paying much attention to our Hachi. Both me and my hubby are doctors and were post grad trainees at that time. We did not give up. We searched the internet, learned how to care for her including manual evacuation of bowel and bladder, and now our Hachi is a perfectly happy kitten of 9 months. At present we are attending our course classes at the medical university. We shifted here 3 months back and brought Hachi along... We just can't live without her. Our family members miss her a lot too... I wish I could do more for her and make her walk on all fours once again... But at least she's a happy kitten, and we love her more than anything else.

I found Franklin 3 years ago when he was one week old. I took him to the Humane Society but they said that they would just put him down. I decided to keep him until he was old enough to adopt out. They gave him a free check from the vet and sent me with a big bag of supplies and instructions on how to raise a baby kitty. My husband and I took turns bringing him to work so that he could be fed and "pooped" on schedule. Needless to say, he became a true member of the family and even visits "Daddy" after my husband and I separated. He enjoys coming with me when I run errands and drapes around my shoulders when we take walks around the block. He even calls me "Mama" and all who have heard it will swear in a stack of bibles that he does. We used to have neighbors who had a hyper teacup Chihuahua who loved to play with Frank and now he thinks all Chihuahuas are his friends; he will not hesitate to approach one with friendly purrs and sniffs. He also gets excited and has too be part of the action when my little boys wrestle and playfight in the house. He's just the sweetest, most social cat I've ever known.

QUARTERS

Five years ago my children and I decided to get a cat.

An add in the paper said to a good home FREE kittens, so we made the call hopped in the car and arrived, There sat the kittens, the owner right off the bat stated "that the white one wasn't on the market" So there I saw the little tuxedo kitten, I picked him up and he meowed and bit my finger! I instantly fell in love with him!

So as we drove home with our new kitten it was time to figure out what to name him, most of the names we came up with were so common until out of the back seat my daughter who was 4yrs old at the time yells out How about "Quarters"? So my son and I asked why Quarters and she said because he looks like a Quarter!

So now my little guy is in the hospital for a week straight, he had to have surgery due to blockages, he is doing well and I can't wait to go get him and bring him home.

Quarters is more than just a cat to us! He is Family, always there to cheer you up in life's ups & downs. He is very vocal and voices his opinion, smart, witty, loves to cuddle under the blankets and will even steal your spot on the couch when you get up.

We would be lost with out him!

After having several different pets over the past years, we decided to bring a cat into the family. While looking at our local shelters, we found a few different cats to take a closer look. We tried to focus on the ones that were a priority. The first (& only) cat was a 3yr old neutered white shorthaired cat named Popcorn.
He has only been w/ us for alittle over a week but he's been a great addition to the family. He's very laid back and tolerates our dog (who happens to be a black lab mix female). It seemed inevitable to adopt a white cat considering that our dog was black and the 2 guinea pigs we have one is all black & the other is all white. :)

I had a wonderful white cat named Weebles. She had one bluish and one greenish eye. She was gentle, affectionate, sympathetic and sometimes capricious. Her male companion, Henry T. Adios, teased her repeatedly and she hissed and fumed and made quite a fuss, but if he walked by without teasing her she was obviously miffed. If I was feeling under the weather, Weebs would simply lie next to me in bed and 'be there'. She also gave birth to three daughters in my bed - I had prepared a nice snuggly box for her, but this is a waste of time as no self-respecting cat will use a place she has not herself chosen. The little ones were all white with 1-50 tufts of darker hair on the head, so there was no telling who the father was.

Henry was a voracious hunter, and brought gifts in through the cat door when we lived in Florida - one morning it was a headless king snake, still thrashing about,and one fine evening I found the bottom half of a small hare under the bed.

Both Weebs and Henry passed away in 2002, at 14 and 13 years of age respectively. I miss them every day.

Trixi came to us via a shelter, and from Day 1 she stole our hearts. What attracted her to us was her inquisitive and lively personality, and we were not mistaken in our choice.

Trixi is a loving cat: she loves laps, sleeping on my laptop, the laser pointer, tuna, any box, open or closed, and being with her family of two retired people. She's bold in her conversation, and often has a lot to say when she wants something. We know she would dearly love to go outdoors, but alas...that is not to be.

We never thought she would become a part of our little family so quickly and endearingly. We expect many years with our darling little girl since luckily, she's only two years old.

Jun 19, Oreo - A Very Special Cat

I have a tuxedo cat named Oreo. He has always been there for me. Out of all the kittens in the litter he was the only one who was black and white he also had a black nose and black paws. My grandma always called him a skunk though. But he's getting really old now because I've had him from when I was 4 and he's always someone I would talk to. I love him with all my heart.

15 Breeds of cats and their personality

With the exception of a few true cat fanciers, Americans have traditionally been less particular about the bloodlines of their cats than of their dogs. Cats were most commonly seen on farms and they worked to help keep down the vermin population. As cats have become more of a companion than a farm-hand there has been a steadily increasing interest in cat breeds, their purity, and pedigree . The Cat Fanciers' Association is dedicated to the preservation of the purebred and recognizes 39 pedigreed cat breeds. Listed below are 15 of these breeds along with some information about the breed's characteristics and history.

1. Russian Blue - The Russian Blue is a gentle, friendly cat with a distinct appearance. These cats have dense, thick, short coats that come in one color: blue. In contract to the blue fur the cats have bright green eyes and are known equally for their beautiful appearance as they are for their unassuming dispositions.

2. Ragdoll - The Ragdoll is a large cat that has been bred to be affectionate and people oriented. They love to play and some have been taught to come when called. The Ragdoll has a medium length coat that lacks an under coat which makes maintenance of the cat easier than many other long-hairs. Ragdolls are easy to live with and fit well into the lives most families.

3. Cornish Rex - Although the Cornish Rex looks similar to images of ancient Egyptian cats it originated in Cornwall, England in 1950 where it was discovered in a littler of barn cats. These cats are distinct in appearance with an egg shaped and sized head, huge, erect ears, and enormous green-yellow eyes. This cat has an extremely unusual coat that is soft, fine, very short, and grows in waves. The Cornish Rex is affectionate, playful, and retains its kitten like antics throughout its lifetime.

4. Siamese -The Siamese cat, originally from Thailand, is an acutely intelligent and inquisitive animal. It is thought to be the oldest of all domestic. The Siamese is a people lover. He will regularly tell his family how much he cares for them with his loud meows.

5. Main Coon - The Main Coon Cat is a large, native-American long-haired cat. It is revered in Main for its mousing talents. The Main Coon is a social animal that is particularly good for families with children or dogs.

6. Abyssinian -Although the name suggests that this cat is from Ethiopia (formerly Abyssinia), they are actually from India. The name "Abyssinian" came about when the cat was initially brought to England by way of Abyssinia. Abys are one of the most intelligent cats and although they are not "cuddly" they love their people, are inquisitive, and want to help you with whatever you're working on.

7. American Bobtail - The American Bobtail looks startlingly similar to a wild Bobcat. It has a dense coat, a stocky build, and a naturally occurring bobbed tail. American Bobtails are noted for their "dog-like" personalities and their devotion to their families. American Bobtails have been used as therapy cats in treatment programs because they have been found to be very well-behaved and sensitive to people in distress.

8. Ocicat - Originating in Michigan in 1964 the Ocicat is a mix of Abyssinian, Siamese and American Shorthair. It is the only spotted domestic breed selectively bred to emulate the cats of the wild. Although the Ocicat has an exotic and wild appearance its personality is very domestic and well suited for life with a family.

9. American Wirehair - The American Wirehair was first seen in upstate New York in 1966. The lone cat was a spontaneous mutation in a litter of barn cats. Healthy, genetic mutation is a relatively common occurrence but the difference with the American Wirehair is that because his characteristics were so unique an organized effort was made to retain his bloodline and genetic pattern. Interestingly, this genetic mutations has not appeared anywhere in the world other than the United States. The American Wirehair's temperament is docile and calm and a great pet for a so-called "couch-potato".

10. Persian - Persians are documented in hieroglyphic paintings dating back to 1684 B.C. American Shorthairs are playful companions for the entire family.

13. Somali - At first glance the Somali cat looks like a feral or wild cat. It resembles a fox in its color and movement. Its looks are deceiving because the Somali is a sweet, quiet natured cat with an intelligent and social disposition. Because it is slightly larger than many other purebreds, the Somali is great for families with small children.

14. Exotic - Exotics are sometimes affectionately referred to as the lazy man's Persian. They are bred to match every standard of the Persian except one: coat length. Exotics have short, thick hair that does not mat or tangle. They are wonderful pets for people that love the Persian breed but don't have the time or discipline required to maintain a Persian's coat.

15. Siberian - There is little known about the Siberian other than that the earliest documentation of the cat dates back 1000 years. Because there is so little documentation about Siberians it's difficult to know the true standards of the breed. Did you know that the Cat Fancier's Association of America (CFA) recognizes 41 cat breeds? Usually when people talk about breeds, they're normally talking about dogs. Most people don't recognize how many different cat breeds there are, and are usually stunned to find out how many there are.

Currently the CFA officially recognizes 40 cats. Currently the Ragamuffin cat is only recognize with provisional status. This is the last step before this breed becomes officially recognized which will bring the total up to 41.

Currently the top 10 cat breeds listed in order are Persians, Maine Coons, Exotic, Siamese, Abyssinian, Ragdoll, Birman, American shorthair, Oriental, and the Sphynx.

The largest domestic breed is the Maine Coon cat, which did originate from Maine. Some males of the breed can weigh up to 25 pounds. The smallest cat is the Singapura, which is from Singapore. These cats rarely weigh more than 8 pounds.

Not all popular breeds are approved by the CFA. Some of these breeds include the Bengal, California Spangled Cat, Himalayan, Cymric, and the Nebelung.

The reason the CFA doesn't recognize some of these cats is that some of them incorporate wild animals into their breeding, or the breed has not been developed enough, or the breed association has not approach the CFA about officially recognizing them.

While Persians are the number one pedigreed breed, the most popular cats are actually domestic shorthaired cats. But the reason that these cats are not recognized, is that they are essentially of mixed stock and not purebreds. Domestic shorthaired cats are probably owned by the majority of people out there.
