I would love to update your wardrobe! The rate of a closet overhaul depends on a few variables. Hourly at $50/hr or $100 for the following: list of pieces your closet lacks(to shop for), fit and color evaluation (so you never wear an unflattering look again), create looks from current closet (so you are ready to walk out the door in well put together looks right away), accessory and show pairing, and style consulting(includes hair and makeup. This usually takes about 3 hrs. After complete, there is usually enough clothes to take to a local consignment place, where most of my clients make back half or more of what they spent on the consultation/overhaul.

If you haven't discovered Pinterest, you are missing out. I like to call it 'my life on art boards'.
In my everyday life, I continually find inspirational things. Sometimes they are fashion staples from my favorite magazines, other times they are funny pictures of my kiddos. Fresh Starts for 2012

Right now, everyone is buzzing on health. "Get in the gym, go running, whatever it takes to stay in shape this year - right?" As one who prides myself if staying ahead of the game when it comes to staying fit, I commend you. However, what I want to focus on this year is keeping my face healthy.
What I mean by that is, I am going to take extra precautions, go the extra mile and be vigilant with taking care of my face.
Step one: Clean make-up brushes daily. (If you haven't invested in a great set of makeup brushes - do it. I recommend MAC. For an affordable option, Sonia Kasuk for Target).

Step Two: Ensure the make-up you are using is quality. I prefer a liquid with a powder highlighter and bronzer. (For makeup, I prefer Laura Mercier. Bare Escentuals is great for powder.)

Third: Take the time to put a mask on once a week. I used to think masks were ridiculous and a waste of money, but I recently discovered one that really works - Nicole Miller's Pore Refining Mask. Of course, everyone has different needs depending on skin type, so seek the one that works for you.

There is nothing better than dressing up your children. Since May was a little baby, I have enjoyed dressing her in clothes. From cute onesies to precious tutus, I have enjoyed it all! I especially love this picture, below, with her daddy. She was our one and only at this time, just about to turn two (last summer).
She has changed so much since then, but being the daughter I love to dress up hasn't changed. Loving her pigtails and bright green sweater. Some days, even now, I wish I could go back in time. Alas, I guess I will just enjoy the memory through this adorable picture.

I often forget this is the time of year when people think about what they are thankful for, because I tend to be thankful throughout the year. Either way, let us be thankful for colors. If you live in the PNW, rain can seem to be the norm, what we are used to. However, let's not forget how nice it is to not have to walk around in slush all day, or get bundled up like a snowman every time we step out our front door. I recently got to help a very close friend of mine say 'goodbye' to one home and 'hello' to another. She ended up inviting all of our close friends, making it more like a social gathering rather than a boring move-day! Why am I telling you this? Because we all have these. The question is, "WHAT DO YOU WEAR?"

1) Cropped pants and a slouchy top is comfy, while still stylish, enabling movement and fun! (Opt for long-sleeve top in colder times.)

ELF...I don't mean the ones with big ears

Have you heard of ELF? It stands for Eyes, Lips, Face and is a great make-up line that not only works pretty great, but is also completely affordable. I have tried some of the shadows. They are okay. I am not fond of the foundation. Although, for $3 it's worth the try if you have nice skin.However, the product that must be tried is their lipgloss!
Typically, when it comes to lipgloss, I am a snob. It is a must-have for every woman, make-up lover or not. That is why I was floored when I snagged my $1 ELF gloss and actually left feeling like I just put on Juicy or Mac!! Tell me about it..and yes that is not an editing error - it was only $1!!!! Buy one, or two, and see for yourself.

Paleo is Popular - and it really works!

A friend shared this lifestyle with me and I lOVE it. It is basically a way of life where you cut out all the bad stuff (AKA processed sugar) and eat loads of good stuff (AKA lean proteins, lots of coconut flour, nuts, veggies, fruits). Don't worry, this life still allows for dairy. Bonus - lean body, but mostly it makes you feel like a whole new person - better. complete. healthy.
Now that is worth an every day take. And, being fit is always in style.

Finding that pair of jeans that makes even you do a double-take in that 3-way mirror is no easy feat. However, once you find that pair that does, do not hesitate to buy as many, in your size, as you can. Because we know, the second you decide to get another pair, they have ironically decided to discontinue them.

Nerd is Now

Do you like glasses, even if you don't need them? Do you want your hair to look chic, but don't have the time to do it? Do you own a pair of loafers, or 'spenders' perhaps? If so, you are officially a NERD.

Not to fret....in 2011 it's actually a great thing. :)

1) Bring hair together on top by using fingers. Hold in place with clip or hair-tie.
2) Snag a wide-framed pair of glasses at your local pharmacy or discount store (AKA - Forever 21).
3) Slip on a collared shirt. (bonus points for pattern or accessorizing with color).
4) Lip gloss and mascara are a must. (true minimalist make-up).

Present Thoughts

With sunshine finally on the horizon, here in the Portland/Vancouver area, all I can think about is getting away. How ironic is that? With thoughts of vacationing in mind, I hope to inspire us all to prepare for those 'getaways' that lay just within reach.

First, check out your daily intake of water. The more time you spend outside, the more water you should be drinking. Especially if you are keeping yourself occupied with outdoor sports, such as swimming, volleyball, etc. Hey, I even count laying by the pool as a 'sport'. Honestly, Lying in the hot sun does burn calories.

Second, speaking of outdoor activity, take advantage of being able to do fun things outside. As mentioned above, there are so many things to do outside. Even if you are not into sports, wake up a little early and go for a run all by yourself, or pack the kiddos in the jogging stroller. Whatever it is, let your body breathe and take in the yellow thing in the sky. After all, if you don't take advantage now, it will be gone before you know it.

Third, take advantage of warm weather and celebrate fashion by way of comfortable and easy styles. Some of the best looks for this summer are the maxi dress and the romper. Another great look that is amazingly stylish and ultra simplistic is the tank dress. Whatever you decide, refer to body type and personal style. After all, style, whether easy or not, needs to express who you are.

Do What Makes Cents

With economics continually going up and down, and for most of us down, keeping close eye on the 'purse' is important. Despite the times, however, there are ways to eat healthy, stay fit and be fashionable without breaking the bank. All you need is to do what makes 'cents'.
Begin by making a list of meals you are going to eat, week by week. To start, take inventory of the food you currently have in your refrigerator and pantry. By doing this you will only by the food you need at the store, while congruently using the food you already have. Making a list also saves you money by not purchasing things you don't need while at the store.
When making the list, makes sure to focus on the items outside the aisles: poultry, chicken, produce, dairy, etc. This way you will be saving money, but also saving time at the gym by choosing healthy options.

Next, instead of buying an expensive gym membership, take advantage of summer weather and take your exercise routine outdoors.
One of the favorite outdoor routines is running. However, if this doesn't fancy you, try an interval training/boot camp workout. Start by running or jogging 1/4 mile. Stop and do 3 sets of 12 push-ups. (For more of a challenge, add on to each exercise. For example, as seen below, add on a arm and leg raise to challenge core and overall body's resistance.) Repeat, changing the 'stopping' exercise each time.

Finally, save a few extra dollars on updating your summer wardrobe, by incorporating new items with items you currently have. Go through your closet and put together pieces you love, making a list of pieces you need, that would complement them. For instance, take your classic pair of white shorts and pair them with one of this year's hottest summer trends, a floral blouse. (Take inspiration from the Robert Cavalli dress, below.)

With these simple tips, you will not only be healthy, fit and fashionable, but financially better off, as well.

Make a Statement

Making a statement does not always mean being that person that everyone is staring at. Sometimes, it means making a commitment to something important to you, and sticking to it.
Let's start with healthy eating goals. Lately, I have found myself craving chips and salsa - one of my all-time favorite snacks. Instead of reaching for that usual bag of chips, get some corn-flour tortillas, cut them, and bake them yourself. Bake the whole bag. When finished baking, fill the bag with the chips and limit the amount you eat in once sitting. For salsa, go for fresh pico de gallo. Fresh salsa is full of healthy pre-biotics like onions, tomatoes, garlic and much more. Not only is this the healthy way to go, but it also tastes so much better when made from scratch.

Next, focus on getting those thighs ultra-lean by doing leg lifts. I recommend front, side and rear. Watch the form and challenge yourself to hold the pose at your highest height.

Last, but not least, dress to impress by dazzling yourself in your favorite summer accessory. As we all know, hats, jewelry and shoes take the cake; but don't forget about hair. Especially in the summer, when putting on another thing seems a little too much, your hair is most definitely your best accessory. Work on a new style or challenge yourself with color to make a real statement.

It is Time to Change your Lifestyle

Do you eat to live or live to eat? To truly change your body, a lifestyle change must be made. And, unfortunately for most, it starts with food choices. I know what you are thinking, not another diet. I totally agree!! Diets won't get you anywhere but on another diet again. In order to see real results start by simply taking out all foods with sugar. Now I say 'simply' but this will probably be the hardest first step you have ever taken. Reward yourself with a desert of your choice once a week - that's right "ONCE A WEEK". This means every form of sugar, excluding fruits and veggies. I promise it will be worth it!

What better way to compliment a lifestyle eating makeover, by challenging self to an extreme sport. Do something you thought you would never do before. This provides a sense of accomplishment and will keep your focus on fun things you are doing, as opposed to sweet foods you may be missing. I recommend bungy jumping, skydiving, rock climbing, para-sailing, skiing, and/or white water rafting. HAVE FUN!

Fashion is always a phenomenal way to make a change, but a lifestyle change? If wanting to simply spruce up one's day-to-day look, that works. However, change, by pure definition, requires a variation from what is current. For true dramatics, challenge yourself to switch out your entire look. For instance, if you are typically dress classic like a 'lady', or try being eccentric with the looks of a 'rocker'.
