Scott Weiland to release "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year"

Thanks to Tyrant: Rhino Records is offering a $11.99 pre-order for Scott Weiland's upcoming Christmas standards album "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year", which will be released on October 4.

The album, described by Rhino as covering "a variety of styles including big band swing, orchestrated ballads, reggae, bossa nova and more, all delivered with surprising ease by Scott Weiland", consists of ten cover songs:

Last 4 Shows of the Summer Tour Postponed

Stone Temple Pilots were forced to postpone the last four shows of their summer tour after lead singer Scott Weiland was diagnosed with "inflamed vocal cords." Concho, OK already rescheduled for November 5.

The band was scheduled to perform last night (Tuesday, September 13) at the Taft Theater in Cincinnati, Ohio and tonight (Wednesday, September 14) at Iroquois Amphitheater in Louisville, Kentucky. But per Weiland's physician's diagnosis, Scott was put on immediate vocal rest.

Dr. Sid Khosla, director of the UC Health Voice Center in Cincinnati, said, "Today myself, Dr. Eva Van Leer and ENT Dr. Keith Casper consulted with Mr. Weiland. Upon a video stroboscopy, we determined his left vocal cord has likely scarring and his right vocal cord is tremendously inflamed. With such a heavy concert schedule and vocal activity, we determined that Mr. Weiland could potentially run the risk of a vocal hemorrhage or suffer permanent damage, hence putting him on complete vocal rest."

STP apologizes to their fans and refunds will be issued at point of purchase.

Scott Weiland: "STP to start working on new material"

In his recent interview with Billboard about his new Christmas album, Scott Weiland also announced that he expects Eric, Dean and Robert to start working on material for another STP album when the band comes back from South America at the end of this month:

"There is another album coming" to follow 2010's self-titled effort. The group plays three shows in South America this month, then Weiland expects his bandmates to start working on new material. "They usually start before me, just getting some rough ideas together and then putting rough ideas down on ProTools with no lyrics and no melody," he explains. "And then I start listening to it and see if it's just a straight-ahead rock 'n' roll record or if it's more of a concept album like (2001's) 'Shangri-La Dee Da' was. Once we decide that, it should go full speed ahead."

"We Are The Road Crew" by Ken Barr

Longtime Below Empty contributor Tyrant recently interviewed Ken Barr, who worked for a variety of big-name music acts and as a guitar technician for Stone Temple Pilots from the Purple to the Tiny Music tour.

Ken Barr published his stories from the road in his book "We Are The Road Crew", which is described as follows:

"Starting in 1978 and ending in 2000, I worked in the music industry as a technician. My journey started in the bars and rock clubs on Long Island, New York, and eventually took me to arenas and stadiums around the world working for KISS, Alice Cooper, Stone Temple Pilots, and many other groups. This is my story. From club gigs after school as a teenager, to concerts on every continent on the planet. I've been there and back, and survived to tell the story. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed living it."

Scott performing with Velvet Revolver in honor of John O'Brien

Rolling Stone reports that Scott will perform with Velvet Revolver at the House of Blues in Los Angeles tomorrow night in honer of musician John O'Brien, who was found dead at the age of 45 in his Chicago hotel room last August.

VR guitarist Dave Kushner, who says O'Brien was his best friend, got the band back together for this three-song performance. He told Rolling Stone: "I found out he passed away on August 20, and it was like out of nowhere. [..] Next day I was in shock and my wife said to me, 'You gotta have a benefit concert for his wife and you have to get Velvet Revolver back together.' That�s how it started."

Scott Performs with Velvet Revolver at Tribute Show

Scott Weiland performed with Velvet Revolver last night at the House Of Blues in Los Angeles. The band played a 4-song set at "Love You Madly," a tribute concert for the family of musician John O'Brien. O'Brien, who passed away in August, was VR guitarist Dave Kushner's best friend. Other artists performing included Maroon 5, Sheryl Crow and Tom Morello.

Velvet Revolver performed "Sucker Train Blues", "She Builds Quick Machines", "Slither" and the Pink Floyd cover "Wish You Were Here".
