MGM+ announced today that production on the second season of the hit thriller horror series ‘The Institute’ has begun in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones) joins the cast playing Nolan Reeves, an eccentric European tech billionaire and one of the Institute’s financial backers with an ambitious agenda all his own. Allen joins returning season two cast members Ben Barnes, Mary-Louise Parker, Joe Freeman, Simone Miller, Fionn Laird, Robert Joy, Arlen So, Jeff Fahey and Hannah Galway.

‘The Institute’ Season Two follows Luke Ellis, Tim Jamieson, and their fellow survivors in the aftermath of Season One’s explosive climax as they work to expose the Institute’s crimes while staying one step ahead of the army of killers on their tail. Meanwhile, the ruthless and calculating Ms. Sigsby pursues her quest for vengeance and a return to power, in the process discovering more about the deep inner workings of the Institute than she ever could have imagined.

The doors of ‘The Institute’ will remain open for another season.

MGM+ has picked up a second season of ‘The Institute’, its horror / thriller series based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.

“‘The Institute’ has thrilled audiences with its distinctive storytelling and exceptional performances that expertly bring the singular voice of Stephen King to the screen,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “We’re so happy to be able to continue and expand this chilling journey and dive even deeper into the secrets of ‘The Institute’ in season two.”

The series centers on a group of kids with emerging special abilities who are subjected to cruel experiments at the mysterious institute of the title, along with a local cop (Ben Barnes) whose story intersects with that of the kids.

“Set free but hunted, new dangers await the escapees from the Institute and I can’t wait,” King said in a statement.

The deluxe version includes six extra tracks — reimagined string versions and standout live recordings from the road. Ben re-records three originals to highlight their emotional core: “Nevermind” is transformed into a cinematic, dreamlike experience; “Ritual” becomes a tender, hopeful ballad; and “Three New Hearts” softens into intimate reflection. A teen genius wakes up in a strange place full of children who got there the same way he did, and who all, like him, possess unusual abilities.

Episode #1: “The Boy” (59 min)

Luke wakes up at the institute, having been kidnapped by ms. Sigsby, who claims he’ll save the world. Tim signs on as a night knocker for the local cops.

Episode #2: “Shots For Dots” (54 min)

Luke bonds with the others as he starts to plot his escape. Sigsby manages fallout from the security breach. Tim starts to look into The Institute.

Episode #3: “Graduation”

Luke begins to plan his escape while Sigsby is distracted, trying to expose stackhouses disloyalty. Meanwhile Tim loses a friend.

Episode #4: “The Box”

As Luke’s tests intensify, a new arrival causes problems for Sigsby; Tim isn’t buying the official story about what happened to Annie.

Episode #5: “Back Half”

Sigsby tricks Luke into confirming he’s TP, forcing him to move up his escape attempt; Tim’s suspicions put him on the Institute’s radar.

Episode #6: “Run”

As Tim’s investigation pays off in ways he never imagined and Sigsby scrambles to avert disaster, Luke must finally decide who he can trust.

Episode #7: “Hide”

Luke and Tim go on a desperate search for help as Sigsby uses all of her formidable assets in a last-ditch attempt to keep the Institute’s secrets.
