Castellon is the nearest town to Benicassim, and you can get regular local trains to benicassim from here, there is also a good local bus service which links Castellon to Benicassim.

If you are flying to Barcelona, you are about 290km from Castellon. The Barcelona Airport links to the main train station “Sants” the train station.

It is now also easy to make plane train connections in Madrid. The metro connects Barajas Airport (Madrid’s international airport) with the Atocha train station. Cost is about $1.50. Then it is a 5 hr. train ride to Castellon or Benicassim (that is on normal trains — the “super” high speed train does it in 3 hrs.).

One-way train fare from Barcelona on regular trains runs about $25 or so — and from Madrid this would jump to about $40 again on regular trains. Costs on the high-speed luxury trains will likely be about 50% higher.

In Benicassim, the local bus line runs every 1/2 hr. in the summer season and connects the Hotel Voramar and Villa Elisa conference site to downtown Benicassim (pueblo viejo) (it can also be walked in 15-20 minutes walk from the hotel and Villa Elisa). The buses also continue to Castellon which is 40-45 min. by bus.

To start, you’re going need a good bag or rucksack that won’t fall apart the first time you throw it to the ground. Whatever you bring along, you’ll have to carry it with you, so bear that in mind. Therefore, eight pairs of heels are not going to be necessary, unless you’re Kate Moss. Line your bag with black sacks to add some extra defence from rain and water, as you don’t want to wake up in the morning having to put on wet clothes. Not a pleasurable experience.

Ensure you have a fully working tent and have checked everything before you leave. Try putting it up in the garden so you know what you’re doing and that all the parts are there. There’s nothing worse than turning up with a tent you’ve borrowed and finding you’ve got no ground sheet or a broken zip. Take plenty of pegs as you can never have enough and ensure you pick your pitch site carefully.

This is not a fashion parade, so don’t pack anything you wouldn’t want to get ruined and, while fancy dress might seem like a good idea, the novelty soon wears off. Bring clothes that are comfortable, warm, lightweight and ideally have lots of pockets for phones, camera’s, tobacco, etc. Bring wellies if you can carry them or alternatively bring old trainers. Flip flops are lightweight and easily tucked away, but are only useful if the weather is good. Bring more socks than you think you need to keep your feet dry. A single lightweight waterproof is a good idea as it will keep you dry, but will allow your body to breathe. A warm jumper will be needed at night and can also be used as a makeshift pillow. Bring a hat of some sort along to keep off the sun or the rain.

The 4 day festival takes place 16th - 19th July 2009, the manchester band lead by the gallagher brothers Noel and Liam, will almost certaintly headline one of the days. The actual day has not yet being confirmed.
Oasis join a line up which includes Kings of Leon, Franz Ferdinand and Paul Weller. The line up is already looking like one of the best ever with a promise of more big names to be added in the next few weeks.

What do you think of the line up so far?

However, to us newbies i think i can personally say it is pretty intimidating but definitly exciting. We have all been to the usual festivals back in our home land… but Europe, that’s a different story.

Now, to the main point, how to get there. I have researched and researched and spoken to friends who went previous years. It seems the best way to get there is to fly to Valencia and get a train that goes straight to Benicassim which takes about an hour, perfect timing to get a few drinks down you i’d say. Other possible routes are flying to Reus (1hr 40mins away), Barcelona (2hrs 30mins away), Alicante (2hrs 50mins away) or Madrid (4hrs 40mins away).

If you are like my friends, they have decided to either create the event into some massive road trip across Europe or to go by train. We have found an InterRail Global Pass which allows us to travel where ever we want for either 22 days (€309) or 1 month (€399), these prices are based on the Youth Pass from the ages of 12- 26. There are other passes aswel, for a one country pass to Spain for 8 days it’s €149, also based on the Youth Pass of ages 12-26.

So there we go, when i find out anymore i’ll let ya’ll know!
