Posted at PIA, for the first time ever,Philippines will now have its own supercomputer acquired from the tech-giant IBM via donation.The supercomputer is called" IBM Blue Gene", expected to arrive soon in the country and will be setup at the University of the Philippines under the DOST’s supervision.

The supercomputer will primarily be used to support the Philippine government’s priority R&D projects focused on reducing poverty, improving government processes, and tools and enabling smarter weather management, as based on the National Economic Development Authority’s Medium Term Development Plan.

One of the priority projects to use the IBM Blue Gene supercomputer is the DOST’s Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards or Project NOAH, the government’s flagship program and integrated information system for disaster mitigation and climate change.

The IBM supercomputer will enable local scientists to process and gain insights from the massive data collected, to produce faster, more accurate forecasts and improve localized weather prediction for the country.

Disqus Moderation can display spammer’s IP and Email Address | Blacklisting Tips

Another good feature of Disqus Comment System which was rolled out recently is the ability to display the commenter’s IP and email address when moderating comments. So, it could help webmasters easily deals rude spam comments by blocking their access on site. ‘Spam Comments’ are comments containing promotional links to blogs, wikis, guestbooks, or other online portals. SPMC to Acquire 100-M Data Center & Network Infrastructure from HP

The Southern Philippines Medical Center or SPMC is the largest government hospital in Davao City currently housing approximately 1,200 patients daily, officially announced its plan to upgrade existing data center and network infrastructure to cater future IT modernization requirement through HP-Hewlett Packard and AMTI collaborations.

HIGHLIGHTS

Dr. Leopoldo J, Vega, the Chief of Hospital III of SPMC said in a press conference held in Marco Polo, Davao City last April 11, that the new IT infrastructure will cover vast centralized data storage, hardware, network nodes and backup system to p
rovide more efficient services to their patients.

“Imagine the X-ray department in most hospitals. Maintaining them usually costs a lot of money because you have to buy film, reagents to develop the film, and you have to allocate space for dark rooms and records," he pointed out.

"But when you digitize and automate that department, all you need is a computer and monitor. Doctors and patients can get their results as soon as it’s available. The hospital does not have to pay for film, reagents and space. Overall, that’s less cost, faster turnaround time, and better quality of medicine,” Vega added.

Dr. Vega also mentioned that their existing system is programmed by Segworks which now in 80 percent completion waiting to be tested and implemented in the modern hardware of HP.

Basically the new system will digitize all patients’ records from admission, laboratory, billing and payments with faster link ups to e-claim benefits.

Dr.Vega also cited the plan to create innovative applications for doctors that could help them easily diagnose patients correctly and retrieve medical records using mobile devices but off course with a certain level of confidentially and security.

BUDGET

Dr. Vega said that the acquisition is a 5-year leased to own infrastructure worth around 100M--not the one-time payment shot.

Furthermore, SPMC said that the budget of the project will be taken from its income retention majority from Phil-health e-claims and other revenue sources which now amounted to 1Billion per year.

WORKFORCE & SERVICES EFFECTS

Vega maintains that the IT modernization project will not affect its current workforce as the migration process will go gradually and the system were design to function with manual intervention from the respective medical staffs.

As to services, the SPMC officials assured that there will be no single services to be sacrificed in favor of the project as it has the enough budgets to run the system.

Microsoft Exchange 2010 has many advantages over Exchange 2003, and while many large organizations can see the advantage in migrating to Exchange 2010, there are many perceived threats and dangers in doing so. In particular there are risks to corporate data, continuity, and security as well as to regulatory compliance.

There are a number of reasons to migrate.

Firstly, Microsoft Exchange 2003 is no longer fully supported, and won’t be supported at all after May 2014. Neither of the options of running with a non-supported systems or migrating after support has ended can be attractive to any IT department.

Secondly, Exchange 2010 has many technical advantages: In particular, storage costs are very much cheaper as improved read/write performance means much larger databases and larger mailboxes can use large lower cost disks.Mailbox server recovery is much improved as multiple copies of the server can be run. Archiving is improved as users can simply archive mailboxes using drag and drop rather than copying them to a different drive. Regulatory compliance is improved by the legal hold capability and the fact that encryption and prevention of data leaks are incorporated in the platform. Exchange 2003 has limited scalability (due to the 32-bit operating system) which means that large organizations need to run multiple Exchange servers, this is not necessary with

Exchange 2010 as many more users can be supported by a single server.

However, there are significant risks involved in Exchange migration. For instance there can be service interruptions to the flow of email, both internal and external, and it is generally better to start migrating by a small batch of users at first, and then increasing the number as confidence is built. It is also necessary that all users understand what is happening and how the changes could potentially impact their working day. The dangers of data loss also need to me minimized, for instance by first migrating PSTs and archived email.

Developing a migration plan is a major challenge to most IT departments, however there are number of organizations such as Mimecast that help to provide a more seamless migration experience.

Just before the Atlas acquisition was formally announced by Facebook, a news leak from New Zealand-based blog, The Next Web unveiled the new Facebook Timeline design and like page button which was tested on selected New Zealand users.

Facebook features the new single-column Timeline design for Facebook users, shifting status updates and shared content to the right-hand side while adding a refreshed ‘About’ section on the left as shown in the screenshot below:

In this new layout, the timeline is likely split into a half side for status updates, the other for recent activity, thumbnail images of friends’ profiles, independent app activity and more.Another thing is the status updates from BuzzFeed links to an article online,and the new ‘Like Page’ button underneath which provides more opportunities to click-through to a company’s Facebook Page.

Though this are minor changes so far, Facebook obviously mean new things for marketers and business users...and its good indicator that more updates are forthcoming.

It’s quite been a long time since I lastly posted my income statement but to inspire myself and maybe you, I am happy to share some goodness early of this year. To tell you, 2012 was seems I am very hiatus in blogging due to new work schedule and often busy doing some outdoor fun. Last year, my Adsense earning was only $131 and most of my earning came from direct ads, sponsored posts and Odesk fix cost projects.

The good thing in blogging--income are mostly passive.

No info so far regarding the manufacturer of this tablet. My assumption is its likely made in China / Korea assembled in PH. I haven't tested yet their beta version but I am one of their users in ANTS so I can initially point out some of its drawbacks.

The basic version features is so limited, that I will rather choose to get a paid PHP clone scripts to run my simple jobs board.

The demo is not open for anyone so obviously in this version AppliView targets huge recruitment agency to be their partners.

Fixing Google Code Subversion Repository Error in Blogger

Blogger usually requires users to login if you set your readers preferences to "Only Blog Author" or " Only These Readers" setup however, in this case its a different window that prompts users to login upon visiting your blog as shown in the screenshot:

This error is related to what many webmasters called as "Google Code Subversion Repository".You know that some css / javascript in your blog template are hosted remotely by its owner however, by the time they terminated the hosting or the file get broken, you will directly suffer that error.

To fix it:
1.Try open the script link, in this case :
https://gj37765.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html/mddemo/4in1widgetv2.css

if you are prompted with login, this means the code is either dead or removed.

2.Try finding this code inside your blogger template and delete it:

4.Don't forget to hit SAVE

5.Preview your blog in your own computer ( also make test to view remotely), if no bad things happen then,you're successful else you need to find another template.

When it comes down to it, the Muse is actually a very innovative idea and as it saves battery power on your smartphone, you won’t be wasting juice that you might need for other activities such as social networking apps and email.

I have already made the pledge to sell my iphone and purchase the Muse along with a clever Samsung smartphone so that I can take out the Muse on my trip to the gym and enjoy the music without the interruptions from my phone.

In a press release handed to us yesterday, Lazada, the largest Southeast Asia online store formally announced its partnership with the German retail group known as Tengelmann Ventures. Tengelmann invested in LAZADA’s German holding company in a similar fashion to the recently announced investments by Investment AB Kinnevik, J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Summit Partners.
