Hi, First off I love the podcast. I’ve been listening for quite a while now, well over a year I think. I remember when you had Gomem on, he was amazing. What ever happened to him? Hope he’s ok. Anyways I am just emailing in the hope I can give you some encouragement to keep making shows. I was made up when I saw the new show for download I was worried when they sort of trailed off. I haven’t heard the new one yet because I’ve got a train ride tomorrow so I’ve saved it. I was on your site and saw you have a form for applying to be a guest host. I’d love to be one of the shows. I don’t know how good I would be, I’ve never done anything like this before and I don’t have my own decent mic (but maybe access to one). I follow tech and listen to a lot of podcasts and I am a systems manager for the government in England. But that sounds an awful lot more important than it actually is. I basically reset passwords and unjam printers. But still I would love to give it a go so if you fancy it let me know. And thanks for the show mate. Just keep making them.

If you are using an older version of WordPress other than 2.8.4 you are vulnerable to an attack.
The warning comes from Lorelle on WordPress after it was discovered that a nasty attack is exploiting security holes in previous versions of WordPress, creating a new “hidden” Administrator account and getting right down to the database level. These attacks are said to be “growing by the hour”. Lorelle writes:

There are two clues that your WordPress site has been attacked.

There are strange additions to the pretty permalinks, such as example.com/category/post-title/%&(%7B$%7Beval(base64_decode($_SERVER%5BHTTP_REFERER%5D))%7D%7D|.+)&%/. The keywords are “eval” and “base64_decode.”

The second clue is that a “back door” was created by a “hidden” Administrator. Check your site users for “Administrator (2)” or a name you do not recognize. You will probably be unable to access that account.

Please Upgrade for Gods sake, I dont want to see my readers or listeners get their sites hacked.
Also please download the WP- Security plugin from the Wordpress.org site and make sure that all scans are GREEN.

How to know what version of WordPress you are using?
At the bottom right of every WP admin page it shows the version number.

How do I upgrade WordPress?
If you are using 2.8 or later its easy goto Tools > Upgrade and update your WordPress install for their.
If 2.8 or older you will have to download the latest version of WP from WordPress.org.

My WordPress site did get hacked!

I received today this 30 page ad from AT&T about their offering U-verse in my area. as I was thumbing though the ad on page 22 what do I see before me HIGH SPEED INTERNET! ok so its at&t.
You might be thinking aha its DSL… well no its not, its the NEW! U-verse! fiber to the node.
Llooking at the speeds and the price they offer start at $30/mo for 3Mbps down and go up to 18Mbps down for 55/mo. 18Mbps isnt that bad for the price, But nowhere in the ad says anything about the upstream. so I want to the u-verse site and went searching for the upstream speed and I found it.

• Express – Download Speed: Up to 1.5 Mbps, Upstream Speed: Up to 1.0 Mbps
• Pro – Download Speed: Up to 3.0 Mbps, Upstream Speed: Up to 1.0 Mbps
• Elite – Download Speed: Up to 6.0 Mbps, Upstream Speed: Up to 1.0 Mbps
• Max – Download Speed: Up to 12.0 Mbps, Upstream Speed: Up to 1.5 Mbps
• Max 18 – Download Speed: Up to 18.0 Mbps, Upstream Speed: Up to 1.5 Mbps

Now I have just one note to ad here just down right BAD.
Now if you take a look over at Verizon’s Fios High-speed Internet the upstream is 5Mbps with an down of 15Mbps, Hell I get that right now with Comcast.
I dont know about you but this is an AT&T FAIL upload like a DSL :D
