The City of Benson General Development Plan (GDP) was adopted in 2002 and is effective for 10 years. This is a general, long term, comprehensive plan of the desired direction of the City. It includes a vision statement as well as the City's goals, objectives and policy statements. These are all intended to serve as a framework and guide for decision making which impact the City's future growth and development.
The City of Benson General Development Plan was prepared according to Arizona Growing Smarter and Growing Smarter Plus legislation. With a population greater than 2,500 and a growth rate greater than 2% between Census years 1990 and 2000, the plan must contain the following elements:

  • Land Use,
  • Circulation,
  • Growth Areas,
  • Environmental Planning,
  • Cost of Development,
  • Open Space, and
  • Water Resources.
Additionally, the City of Benson General Plan also contains a Housing Element and Economic Development Element.

The Benson/San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce received a gift Wednesday that could benefit several of the community's nonprofit groups.

Garland Bullard, one of the owners of Happy Valley Realty and a former member of the now disbanded Benson Merchants Association, presented members of the local chamber with a large smoker/grill on Wednesday as a show of appreciation for all the work the chamber is doing on behalf of the community's businesses.

"This smoker/grill was used by the Merchants Association for about 15 years," said Bullard. "The association is no longer in existence, but members of our organization built this grill from donated parts and used it for fundraisers." Money raised through the association's efforts was donated to the Benson and St. David school districts for scholarships."

BENSON, Ariz., Nov. 2, 2011 – Love’s Travel Stops today announced it will hold a ribbon cutting event at a new travel stop in Benson, Ariz., located at I-10, Exit 302.

The event will be Tuesday, Nov.2 at 10 a.m. in partnership with the Benson/ San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The new travel stop in Benson includes Chester’s and Subway restaurants, gourmet Java Amore coffee, an ATM service, an automated car wash, expanded fountain drink selection, a variety of snacks and the clean facilities and friendly employees Love’s is known for. Love’s is a 24/7 operation for motorists and professional truck drivers alike.

One of Love’s core values is giving back to the community. As part of its ongoing commitment to the people and communities in which it operates, Love’s will donate $2,000 to the Benson School District at the event.

Love’s district manager Derek Bach and general manager Jim Burke will present a check to the Benson School District during the ribbon cutting event. Special guests at the event include Executive Director of the Chamber Marc Washington along with chamber directors.

“We are proud of our new location in Benson and committed to the highest levels of customer service,” said Tom Love, founder and CEO of Love’s. “It is very important to us that we form a lasting partnership with the communities where we operate, and we are honored to support the Benson community.”
