Seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment for Tennessee increased 4,500 in April due to gains in education and health services and professional and business services. Over the year, nonfarm employment is up 47,900, but the rate of growth has slowed since January.

Seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment for Tennessee dipped 6,600 jobs in March, the first monthly decline since July 2012. Growth over the year remains positive, with employment up 45,000. The highest over-the-year growth rates are in the Cleveland MSA (5.5%) and Nashville MSA (2.8%).

Seasonally adjusted initial claims for unemployment insurance in TN increased in Jan. following a large decline in Dec.  The less volatile trend continues to show improvement, however.
