American Honda has announced the availability of the all-new 2012 Honda CR-V will not be delayed as a result of the flooding in Thailand. Starting on Tuesday, November 29, the East Liberty, Ohio Honda plant will begin mass prodcution of the all-new 2012 Honda CR-V. It will, therefore, launch on schedule in mid-December.

ALG has announced that Honda of America was awarded second place for Mainstream Brands in its 13th Annual Residual Value contest. ALG, a subsidiary of TrueCar, Inc, is the industry benchmark for residual values and depreciation data.

ALG's Residual Value Awards honor the vehicles in each segment that are predicted to retain the highest percentage off their MSRP after a conventional three-year period. Honda Manufacturing of Indian Increases Production

Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, LLC (HMIN), which produces the popular Civic Sedan and alternative-fuel Civic Natural Gas, today began a second production shift for the first time, which increases production at the plant to its full 200,000-unit annual capacity and adds approximately 1,000 new associates to Honda's operations in Indiana.

The addition of a second shift at HMIN follows the return to normal production levels at all seven of the Honda automobile plants in North America, following the disruption of parts supplies as a result of the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

HMIN was recognized earlier this year for its outstanding quality as one of only three automobile plants globally to earn a Platinum Award for quality based on the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Initial Quality Survey℠ (IQS). Earlier this month, the plant began production of the redesigned 2012 Civic Natural Gas, the only OEM-made natural gas vehicle available for retail purchase in America.

"We are taking an important step forward in the realization of our dream," said HMIN President Jun Nishimoto. "Our associates have made this one of the highest quality plants in the world, and now we have the opportunity to share their commitment to excellence with even more Honda customers. It's a great day for Honda in Indiana."

Honda has the capacity to build 1.63 million automobiles at its seven auto plants in North America, which combined have nine assembly lines. In 2010, more than 87 percent of the Honda and Acura products sold in the U.S. were built in North America, using domestic and globally sourced parts. Honda opened its first auto plant in the U.S. in 1982, in Marysville, Ohio, meaning the company will mark its 30th anniversary of U.S. auto production next year.

Honda to Increase US Production

Honda Motor Company plans to produce 80-90 percent of their vehicles in the local markets where they are sold to reduce the impact of currency swings.This transition will halve exports of vehicles made in Japan over 10 years.

Honda CEO Takanobu Ito told the Asahi newspaper that the company would reduce exports from Japan to 10-20 percent from 34 percent in the business year that ended in March 2011 over the next decade.

Honda built about 910,000 of its total 3.57 million vehicles in Japan last business year.

Honda said in February it would build more of its popular CR-V crossovers in North America instead of in Japan to cushion the blow from the strong yen.

Automakers are reeling from the rise of the yen, which hit a 10-year high against the euro on Tuesday and is hovering around 102 yen . The dollar is around 77 yen, compared with levels above 85 yen in April.
Shares of Toyota closed down 2 percent and Nissan fell 3.1 percent.

Joe's Honda: One million miles!

SACO, ME (NEWS CENTER) -- One million miles on a car is almost unimaginable for many people. For Joe LoCicero it is what he's been working towards for years.

Sunday afternoon Main Street in Saco was shutdown to throw a surprise parade for Joe in celebration of his accomplishment.

Joe puts on average 14,000 miles a month on his 1990 Honda Accord because of his work which takes him all across the state. He works as a mechanic consultant for car warranty companies.

He says there really is no secret to keeping his car on the road this long. Most of it's main parts like its engine and even front calipers are all originals. He has changed a few parts, but says he kept up with the manufacture maintenance schedule and its been pretty smooth driving.

Joe was given a brand new 2012 Honda Accord presented by Miss Maine. A production crew from Honda was shooting an ad of Joe's million mile venture. They say they'll make a two minute promotional video that will go on the web of Sunday's event, and possibly a national ad to air on TV as well in the future.

Ever notice how auto service and repair is like legal service?

You really don’t want to have to do it, it is often very expensive, the people who perform the services often say they can’t control or predict delivery times or costs, they talk in their own specialized lexicon, and unless you are familiar with what they do, you have no idea if they are giving you a good deal.

Having said all that, I must confess that I LOVE my car dealer, and I particularly LOVE the maintenance and repair services my dealer provides. So, for the benefit of my lawyer friends, I have decided to share five reasons that I feel this way (because I believe lawyers should be loved too).

First, my auto dealer’s service department allows me to make appointments that suit my convenience – early mornings, nights and weekends included. They know and understand that I have other priorities during the week, and they make an extra effort to serve me when I want.

Second, my dealer has trained their people how to make me feel at home. They all greet me by name every time I visit and they know what I want as soon as I arrive (so I don’t have to re-explain the whole thing to a desk worker and then a tech worker and then who knows). When I first call, they record my service issues and/or requests in a database, which every worker then accesses prior to interacting with me. They also escort me to a waiting area with food, coffee and reading materials, plus a work station with Internet service. I feel like they live to serve me whenever I arrive.

Third, my dealer’s service people are trained to provide me with an estimated wait time (which is almost always accurate within minutes) and an estimated cost or even an exact quote prior to service. They reformed their own culture so that mechanics and their supervisors were forced to standardize service times and delivery costs for various needs.

Fourth, when something unexpected comes up, or some kind of repair is needed, the technical expert comes to the waiting area to greet me, explains what is needed and takes the time to show me in the service bay if necessary. The whole diagnosis and repair process is thereby demystified for me.

Finally, after the service experience is finished, I always receive a call or e-mail asking me how the visit went and how they could improve on their fabulous service. I also get periodic surveys for my opinion and I always get a request for feedback when I buy or trade a car.

But here is the real kicker – they actually listen to the feedback. The proof is the way they incorporate that feedback into daily operations (I made a suggestion and they decided to use it).

Lawyers take note: If I can love my auto service people so much that I brag about them, then your clients can feel that way about you too!

Honda Pilot and the Honda CR-V - Safety Winners

The Detroit News reports that sport utility vehicles are now safer than cars of the same weight, thanks to anti-rollover technology. As can be seen from the Detroit New table reproduced above, the Honda Pilot and the Honda CR-V are safety leaders in their market segment.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) said in a report issued on June 9, 2011 that SUVs in the 2006-09 model years had a driver fatality rate half that of cars. “The rollover risk in SUVs used to outweigh their size/weight advantage, but that's no longer the case," thanks to electronic stability control, said Anne McCartt, the institute's senior vice president for research. "Pound for pound, SUVs have lower death rates."

All New 2012 Civic - More Fuel Efficient!

Featuring the widest array of engine choices available in its class, the 2012 Civic is designed to even better meet the diverse needs of the compact-vehicle buyer when it launches this spring. 2012 Civic HF - 41 MPG.

Civic GX + 7% MPG.
The Civic GX Natural Gas vehicle is anticipated to earn a 7 percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the current model.

Civic Si - 31 mpg.
The Civic Si sedan and coupe models will be equipped with a larger, more powerful 2.4-liter engine as well as a new 6-speed manual transmission. The new engine is anticipated to deliver 200 horsepower with 170 ft-lb of torque. Even with the larger engine and a 22 percent increase in torque, Civic Si is targeted to achieve an EPA-estimated highway fuel economy1 of 31 mpg; an increase of 2 mpg when compared to the current model.

Impact of Earthquake on American Honda - 3/29/2011

The following information updates Honda's production situation as it impacts the supply of Honda and Acura cars and light trucks to the North American market.

Honda reports that more than 80% of Honda and Acura products sold in the U.S. are produced in North America, and the vast majority of automotive parts for Honda automobiles manufactured in North America are sourced in the region. However, for global efficiency, a few critical parts continue to be supplied from Japan. Most of

Most of Honda's Japan-based parts suppliers have resumed production or are ready to restart their operations. Honda is working with the few suppliers that have yet to resume production to re-establish their operations, while also evaluating additional sources for some parts. Teams throughout North America and global Honda continue to work diligently to overcome these temporary parts flow issues.

As a result of interruptions in parts supplies from Japan in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami, Honda informed associates at its U.S. and Canadian auto plants that the company will implement a strategy of temporary adjustments that will reduce daily production levels. These temporary adjustments will vary from plant to plant based on parts availability. Honda is making every effort to keep plants operating without extensive interruptions.

As parts supply stabilizes and full auto production resumes, Honda will quickly develop a production schedule to meet the needs of Honda and Acura customers.
This is a very fluid situation, so we are not able to provide more detailed information at this time.

Mark Rechtin of Automotive News reports that Honda Motor Co. will slash daily output at its U.S. assembly plants by as much as 50 percent starting Wednesday, as the supply of parts coming from Japanese suppliers hit by the March 11 earthquake dwindles.

Although Honda has a high percentage of North American-supplied content in its vehicles, the cuts in output are evidence that the shortage of a single part can cripple a factory.

Honda disclosed the plans in memos to employees and suppliers on March 29.

"We're not shutting down anything," Honda spokesman Ed Miller said. "While we are continuing to keep all North American plants open, we will be reducing production selectively, on a temporary basis, to cope with parts supply issues."

OHIO.
Honda builds the Accord, Acura TL, Acura RDX, CR-V, Element, and Accord Crosstour in Ohio. Honda said lines 1 and 2 will operate four hours daily for each shift.

INDIANA
The Civic is assembled in Indiana. This plant will operate four hours of production daily

ALABAMA
Honda manufactures the Odyssey, Ridgeline, and Pilot in Alabame. Honda's plant will run four hours daily production for each shift on line one. Line two at the plant was already scheduled to be offline in anticipation of the Honda Ridgeline, which is being relocated to the line.

ONTARIO
The Civic, Acura ZDX, Acura MDX, and Acura CSX (Canada) are built in Alliston, Ontario. will run four hours daily output for each shift.

MEXICO
The CR-V is assembled in Mexico. This plant will continue normal production.

Honda spokesman Jeffrey Smith said that, while trying to help downed suppliers, the automaker is also looking at alternative sources for replacement parts.

With constraints imposed on the supply of new Honda vehicles it is likely that we will see an increased demand in used Honda vehicles - especially those that carry the extra protection of being a "Certified Pre-Owned Honda".

The 2011 Honda Odyssey minivan achieved a historic safety milestone, becoming the first and only minivan to earn the highest possible safety ratings from both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under their respective more-stringent testing guidelines. No other minivan this year has received both a 2011 TOP SAFETY PICK award from IIHS and a "Overall Vehicle Score" of five stars from NHTSA.

The Odyssey was recently named a 2011 TOP SAFETY PICK from IIHS, the institute's highest honor. The award recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting vehicle occupants involved in front, side and rear crashes, plus rollover performance based on ratings in IIHS tests, as well as having a standard electronic stability control system. Honda Extends Japanese Auto Production Suspension

Honda Motor announced that production of finished vehicles in Japan would remain suspended through April 3.

While most of Honda's Japan-based suppliers are making progress to restart production, and many either have or are ready to resume parts production, there are a few suppliers that have yet to resolve the challenge to resume their production. In those cases, Honda is working with its suppliers to help reestablish their operations, while evaluating other possible sources for those parts in the supply chain.

Honda will then decide when production of Honda vehicles will be restarted based upon the status of the recovery of Japanese society as a whole as well as the status of Honda parts supplies.

Honda is making every effort to work toward a full recovery during these challenging times.

Impact of Earthquake on American Honda - 3/17/2011

In their March 17th update, Honda expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the victims of the earthquake in Japan, and and a hope for the earliest possible relief and recovery of the affected areas.

Japan Operations
Honda has closed a number of its plants in Japan so as to focus on the recovery of each operation.

Honda is cooperating with electricity conservation efforts and rolling blackout measures, prioritizing the relief and recovery of affected areas.

Honda has made contact with all Tier 1 suppliers in Japan and is collecting information from them regarding the status of their operations.

North American Impact
Honda continues to report that will be no immediate impact on Honda's operations in North America. More than 80% of Honda and Acura products sold in the U.S. are produced in North America, and the vast majority of automotive parts for Honda automobiles manufactured in North America are sourced in the region.

Impact of Japan Earthquake on American Honda

While it is still very early to fully assess the full impact and effect of the damage caused by the earthquake in Japan; and information is difficult to obtain, Honda has provided a brief update on what is known at this point.

North America
There is no immediate impact on Honda’s operations in North America. More than 80% of Honda and Acura products sold in the U.S. are produced in North America. The vast majority of automotive parts for Honda automobiles manufactured in North America are sourced in the region. Honda is however in the process of assessing the long-term impact, if any, on Honda auto production in North America, since some auto parts are supplied from Japan.

Japan Operations
Damage was widespread in the Tochigi area, where Honda has a number of operations. Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has confirmed the fatality of a Honda R&D associate at the Tochigi R&D Center, when a wall collapsed in a cafeteria. Additionally, more than 30 other Honda associates were injured in the Tochigi area from other damage during the earthquake.

Some Honda plants have temporarily closed in Japan. Honda in Japan is assessing the resumption of operations and the long-term impact to its operations from the Japan earthquake. Honda’s operations in North America and globally will do everything they can to support the recovery of Honda’s operations in Japan.

Interview with Bernardi Sales Rep: Peter Nannery

Car salesman Peter Nannery admits that the business of selling cars has a bad rap. But Nannery, 37, of Bernardi Honda in Natick, Mass., insists that he’s an honest guy who doesn’t deploy sleazy dealer tactics to drive a sale. He tries to reassure customers with the lighthearted line, “My wife likes me, and she’s a good person.” Nannery says the days of high-pressure bargaining, 10-15 hours of negotiation “to wear people down” are no more. “No more old-school tricks here; we take a more relaxed approach.”

Nannery first would like to dispel a few myths: it isn’t true, he said, that salesmen are told not to wear sunglasses so they can develop better rapport with their customers. And the practice of “turning” over a difficult sell to another salesperson or manager is also rare. “We don’t have a system or designed approach,” he said.

According to Nannery’s spreadsheet, he sells an average of 315 cars a year, and although he has to work weekends – “that can be tough when the Patriots are playing” – sometimes staying those four extra hours to make a sale can be worth it. And if they walk out the door? “That does happen quite a bit. You just have to pick yourself up and get ready for the next person.”

The playing field for car salesmen like Nannery has changed, with educated customers using Internet research on sites like Edmunds.com to find out the cost of options, available models, and regional selling price. “Customers ask less about the car now, and more about the deals,” said Nannery.

Q: What are the most cars you’ve sold in one day?
A: During Cash for Clunkers last August, I sold seven cars in one day. I was on cloud nine. Even as recently as last Saturday, I sold four cars in one weekend. I had been struggling a bit; I did 11 months in a row of 20-plus cars, and I was hoping to build off that momentum but it seemed as if that streak would end. In the last four days there was a huge turnaround, after making phone calls and asking people for referrals.

Q: Did you expect to become a car salesman?
A: Never in my wildest imagination. I never liked cars growing up as kid, and am not mechanically inclined. I’m even bad at even Legos. But I like sitting down with people and helping them select something useful for their family.

Q: Did the Toyota recall crisis last winter help your business?
A: Yes, it did. I feel horrible for the guys who work at Toyota, but when people are cross-shopping from one brand to another, we definitely try to mention it as a factor that makes Honda a safer buy.

Q: What color typically sells the best?
A: Silver is king, and it stays cleanest the longest and hides dirt the best. And black always looks good when a car is shiny and cleaned up.

Q: Any funny or outrageous incidents that happened to you while selling cars?
A: My first week here, I took out a gentleman to see a car and we had to drive to the storage lot where we keep excess inventory. I don’t know if it was the excitement of making a sale, but we hit another car, and then a third car joined the collision. It was two accidents within six minutes. We made it back to the shop and I was all shaken up, but I still got the deal.
