Our poor little skinny, average height, largish head son!

The doctor said I shouldn’t be worried about his low weight.  She said he is completely healthy and there is no cause for concern.  But I hate that his weight is so low, am I crazy?

Owen is doing great developmentally.  He has been walking since he was 9 months and now he gets from place to place by running.  The faster the better!  He has been saying “dada” for months but he finally figured out how to say “mama” which makes me so happy.  A few of his other tricks include clapping, showing how big he is (by raising his hands over his head), giving raspberries, and nodding his head and saying “yeah” when we ask him a question.  He also has figured out a few words using sign language, milk, more, and all done.  It’s so exciting to see him learn and grow.

The day after the reunion we went to Deer Creek Reservoir.  Josh, Sabrina, and Jake are doing an open water swim there next week and Grandpa and Grandma are going to be paddlers for them.  So they all wanted to get in a practice swim or paddle.

Cole is getting so big.  He and Owen are the same size (height and weight) even though Cole is 4 months younger.  But don’t worry Owen can hold his own with his cousins even if they are bigger than him!

Owen could have cared less about the club.  We tried to show him how to use it but he didn’t care.  But he loved playing with the golf balls.  He loved to put them in and out of the cups at each hole.

To celebrate Owen’s 1st Birthday we had a small party at our house.  Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle came from Kansas to celebrate with us as well as a few others.  Owen had so much fun opening presents and eating cake.

The 4th of July is my very favorite holiday.  I look forward to it every year.  I was so excited to share my love for our country and the celebration of it with Owen this year.  We took him to his very first parade and he seemed to really enjoy it.  It was kind of nice that he was oblivious to all the candy being thrown, I’m sure next year will probably be different!

We just spent the afternoon at our house letting Bernd rest so he would come to fireworks with us that night.  We weren’t sure how Owen would react to the fireworks, if he would be afraid of the loud noises or what.  But I was pleasantly surprised when he laid down by Bernd and I and just watched them.  He got a little restless and went to go lay down by Papa and Grandma and then spent some time with Jake.  But he pretty much watched the entire firework show.  I’m hoping that means my son will share my love for fireworks!

I love this country!  I feel so blessed to be able to live here and live so freely.  I don’t always agree with how people choose to run this country (don’t even get me started) but I appreciate those that have served or currently are serving their country so that I can enjoy my freedom.  This is a very blessed land.
