Ode to Grammy

My Grammy was a a fine lady.. a little wacky, but I inherited that from her I like to think. She was an artist, a crafter and an entrepreneur. She went all in when she found a new craft passion, From painting to candle making, to needlepoint and all things in between. She passed away this evening from a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. I'm keeping her memory alive and and her legacy will continue. I have been fortunate enough to receive prior to her passing many of her craft supplies, sewing notions and inventory from the shop she had in her home. Rest in Peace Grammy.

Today I went on adventure. I decided to be brave and face Houston Traffic head on! Why you ask? To get to the International Quilt Festival, of course. I don't usually go into Houston, much less downtown destinations without someone else driving. I was on my own today. I did however have the help of my dear friend Robin, http://whimbrella.etsy.com who got me un-lost. I went way too far and missed a lot of turns before she got me to my destination. I love that woman with all my heart. I got to finally meet her, QuiltingFrenzy.etsy.com and downthestreetcreations.etsy.com I'm the only one who didn't have my camera, I forgot it and my phone in my car!! I feel like such a bonehead for doing that. They were all very sweet and understanding and helpful. I walked around for 3 hours in utter and complete amazement. I started at the display section of quilts and oohed and ahhed over all of them. I Didn't see all of them, but I did to see one in particular that I wanted to see, the one by Terry Aske TerryAskeArtQuilts.etsy.com

I didn't sit down until I got back in my truck which was at least 4 blocks from the GRB. All other lots were full. I wish I had my camera with me, if nothing else for the art dolls. They are absolutely stunning. I'd seen many of the designers work in magazine, but I was in breathing distance of these dolls and I was in heaven. I'm seriously considering entering the Gypsy Challenge next year. Would be awesome if I had one of my dolls on display at IQF! It would be a dream come true!

After all that wandering around and in a gleeful trance, I did manage to purchase a few things. I got the Hobbs sample pack, and some thread at a couple places, I can't even remember now. Thread Arts I know was one of them. I could have walked around for another hour, but I needed to drag my tired butt back to the truck. I'm happy and I'm glad I got to meet my friends who are also teammates and their companions. A couple had mothers and a friend and one had her daughter with her. I'm a happy but tired little camper!

I also got to see a Husqverna LA in action the machine cost $8,000 and had a computer screen attachment that was an additional $10,000 I need to win the lottery! I also got see several fancy embroidery machines in action and the easy quilter which turns your home machine into a LA.

Need a gift for the medical staff in your life? Then you are in luck. This Handmade fabric Stethoscope Cover. It is a great way to say "Thank you" to a nurse, doctor, tech, veterinarian, EMT, or Home Health personnel. If you are in the medical field, get one for yourself.

100% cotton fabric and completely washable. This stethoscope cover is about 19 inches from one end to the other. It has 4 inches of 1/4 inch elastic encases in each end. You just slip the patient end into one of the openings of the stethoscope cover and out the other opening. This stethoscope cover will protect your neck and the tubing between the bell and the binaurals.

I'm gonna toot my horn for my Aunt. She makes the most fabulous cat furniture. She only sells them in the general area that she lives which is Northwestern Louisiana. So if you know any body in the Toledo Bend area, on up toward Shreveport, check with the Vet offices around there for her Promo flyers.These cat trees are built of wood and covered with a variety of textures including sisal carpet remnants, sisal rope, and bit's of other low pile carpet remnants. I think she's calling her new company Cat Country Corner, but I'm not sure. So if you are in that area and need a good piece of cat furniture for your kitties, tell her I sent you.

Custom Banners and Avatars @Berry Blue Creations

In the last week, I have had the honor and privilege of making custom banners for my friends shops:

Hospitals and custom Orders

Tuesday Morning I went to the dentist to get some fillings done. If that wasn't painful enough, when I asked my Mr if my face looked as swollen as it felt (half of it was numb still) He said he couldn't tell. I asked him why he couldn't tell and he replied he couldn't see all of it. His right eye was not seeing properly. He blinked a few times and opened his eyes wider. Still no change in his vision. So we discussed whether or not he should go to the eye doctor. Then he said his head hurt really badly in the back. So off to the ER we went. For a change it wasn't crowded, only one other person in triage at the moment. He was having trouble getting words out, uncharacteristic of him and he was kind of stuttering. they took him to the back immediately. They ordered a CT scan of his head and gave him some pain meds and turned out the light in his room. That helped his eye felt better when the meds kicked in and the dimmed lights in the room helped. When his eye felt better, the pressure in the back of his head got some relief shortly afterwards. He's never had a migraine before, just the usual sinus/allergy/ too much computering headaches. The ER Dr. had a Neurologist take a look at the CT scan and they opted to keep him overnight so they could do an MRI and MRA the next morning. I stayed until he got settled in a real room and then went home to take care of the dogs ad try to get some sleep.
The next morning when I arrived at the hospital, he was already getting a series of tests done. An ultrasound on his heart/lungs and the MRI MRA. I stayed with him most of the day, going home once to check on the dogs after a PA made her rounds. A few minutes after I got home, Mr called and said they would be releasing him in a couple of hours. So back I went. We waited and waited and waited for the neurologist to give him the all clear to go home. The results of the CT scan, MRI and MRA came back clear. The ultrasound also showed no blockage. Diagnosis Migraine with variance. Translation killer headache with stroke like symptoms.

While discussing all of this with the day nurse, as invariably does with me the subject changed and I had the prime opportunity to promote. I had my purse with me, since I was on my way to my vehicle to get something. The nurse told me to watch him and I assured her I watched him like a hawk when I wasn't sewing. That led to showing the only example of my work I had on hand was my purse. She said it was sweet and I should sell some. I told her I did sell some. I make bags and other things for a living. I also mentioned I had found a pattern for stethoscope covers that I wanted to try and asked if she could or would use one. She lit up like a Christmas tree and said oh yes, she would. I went to my car and when I returned, she pointed me out to some of the other nurses at the station and said "She makes stethoscope covers." They all wanted one. Bingo 5 orders for stethoscope covers on the spot. They asked how much I charged for them and I asked how much they would pay for one. some said $7, some said $10, one said $15 they all agreed it depended on how much the fabric was. I asked if they had any preferences for color.. they were all wearing blue scrubs and wanted covers to match. I quoted them a $7-$10 range each and would give them the final cost when I brought them up. So what started out as super painful turned into super duper!

The mr was released from the hospital yesterday evening and is resting comfortably. The stethoscope covers are in production and things are looking up.

I'll post Pictures when I get them in a day or two.

Pink and Green Patchwork Dollhouse Bag

I love fabric. I love dollhouses and I love bags. So... I decided to combine the three concepts into one very unique work of art. Starting with the top left is: The chimney/ wristlet strap
A roof piece, The dollhouse bag partially constructed, the base of the dollhouse bag, The front/back, The sides. The very last photo is roughly how the doll house bag will look without the roof on or the wristlet strap chimney pieces on. I am hoping to have this project finished in a day or two. I will list it when I perfect it.

I sent the original Bee-3-Dee-Gee-2 Bag to my friend Cheri. Sadly it didn't survive shipping and the washing machine. I tried to fix it and out of the ashes I came up with this even more fabulous Bag! It is 2 inches all the way around bigger than the original, but much more durable.
