The ice in Architecture

Our recent trip to the Winter Wonderland 2013 in Hyde Park London was exciting and enjoyable. We visited the magical ice Kingdom and discovered the ice in Architecture. So am sharing some of the photo highlights and experience. Firstly, the sub zero temperature was really breath taking as i could hardly feel my fingers as we strolled through the medieval village and enter the giant forest, there after following our adventure into the ice castle. And if you fancy any refreshment during your walk then you can stop by at the ice bar.

The beautiful and amazing hand crafted ice sculpture make the ice in Architecture for us. Thanks to the “Christmas tradition from Saxony”

Typical Caribbean and Colonial Style Architecture

The photos highlight typical roof designs that compliment Caribbean and Colonial style architecture. These roofing style can be a combination of hip and gable or in many instances just one on it own. These types of roofing material can vary but most popular are the aluminum aluzinc sheeting and asphalt shingle fitted to timber frame rafters, lath and ply wood.The clay roofing is also used but not as popular since it initial cost is very high, but it is very durable and also enhance the aesthetics of the building. The steel roofing is seldom used, since coastal erosion is very common and increase maintenance cost. Durable timber frame initial cost can be expensive but the maintenance cost is low thus making more popular than steel frame roofing system.

Green Villages and Residential Communities

Having a tour through Villages, and residential community in the country side was certainly enjoyable and fascinating experience. Some of my observations were the natural and green surroundings, the layout of the houses and the blending of the ocean, sky, and trees that create the beautiful and natural environment.

Sculptured Building “Fascade” in the heart of London

I was driving through London a few months ago and I was amaze by the some of the buildings fascade. Some were very modern and others were very traditional but most of them painted a story of sculptured architecture. The photos were taken in the heart of London while driving in a coach. Sculptured architecture in my opinion demonstrate character of traditions and cultures.

Ocean Front Development

I was captured by the impressive skyline ocean front development in Trinidad & Tobago, Trinidad, Port of Spain. The modern look enhance the architectural environment. The photo highlighting the Hyatt Regency building was taken during my visit to Trinidad. The building comprised mainly of hotel accommodation, venue for high profile meetings and conference.

The use of concrete as a architectural form in the 1920s

These photos Highlight The Rudolf Steiner’s Goetheanum located in Dornach, Basel, Switzerland. My recent trip to the Goetheanum site was excited and stimulate reflections of architecture both past and present.

The Rudolf Steiner’s Second Goetheanum was one of the first concrete building to be built. The building was completed in 1928.

Shapely Eco Building

This shapely designed Eco building described as the pods leisure centre open in Scunthorpe UK is rated excellent when it comes to green roof. The roof is constructed using glulam beams and covered with a wide range of roofing materials. Thanks to S&P architects for a landmark design that blends well with the landscape.

Restoration of Victorian Architecture

The National Museum of Scotland reopen after the restoration of a Victorian style architecture and costing £4.7 m refit. The timeline for the completion was approximately two and half to three years. The original interior has been restored and it now one of Uk’s largest museum. Thanks to Scottish architect Gareth Hoskins and exhibition designer Ralph Appelbaum.

Some Typical Traditional Housing Facade in the UK

Some typical traditional facades that were used some 50 years ago. These facades are still popular in this century residential housing designs and construction. The photo shown above highlight some suburb housing in Tooting, St Georges, United Kingdom. This photo shows clearly the brickwork, pebbles dash and pre-cast facades which still maintain an outstanding finish. The roofing for these houses are slate and roof tiles material. The pull-up type windows indicate the historic feature of some of these dwelling units.
