Stan Mocek: [Bes-admins] Reconciliation issues after BES move: Thanks Moises,
Since I sent my last email here, I have rebooted the virtual server
and the emails that have come in since have reconciled almost
immediately. It may be all that was needed, we'll see.

Linares, Mo A: [Bes-admins] Reconciliation issues after BES move: You should look at the blackberry logs as well - it should give you more
detail info as to the delay in reconciliation.
You can use the bb resource kit to gather more info -
You should run some packet sniffer to capture the traffic between bes
and exchange -

Vance, Trevor K: [Bes-admins] SQL Database: I agree with Rich & Don. You've outgrown MSDE long ago.
You'd want to have the SQL database/server in the same data center. If it's in a remote data center, then you would ideally want to have a redundant network path to get to it. In case of an outage, the BES can operate ok without being able to access the DB for a short time - though you wouldn't be able to add/delete/modify users until the DB came back online.
We're using MS SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition - SP2. The server is in the same data center as our 3 BES (4.1.6 MR5) & 3 Exchange 2007 SP1 servers. 1800 BlackBerry's
Get the DBA's to buy off on it, and it's really easy. RIM doesn't tend to make a lot of changes to the DB except in the major releases... 4.0, 4.1 & 5.0. Sometimes a service pack will have a DB modification, though it's rare (imho). Always read the release notes and if there's a change to the DB, get the DBA's involved.
Subject: [Bes-admins] SQL Database
Hi Everyone,
Do you know if it is desirable to have the SQL database on a separate server or is it best to have the SQL database local. Our Company deploys SQL Server farms. Our BES has almost 900 users and is on MSDE. We need to migrate to full blown SQL. We are running BES 4.1.6 for MS Exchange. Also what version of SQL are supported? Trying to plan a strategy crashed last weekend and I think we have outgrown MSDE.
As usual everyone's help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

don.andrews_safeway at yahoo.com: [Bes-admins] SQL Database: Absolutely. You offload the cpu/disk load, gain DBA support, backups, etc. Of course you'd want it pretty local to the BES. If you are growing your BB community like it sounds, your next step will be a 2nd BES and (IMHO) the best way to do that is via a shared database - going to an external sql server/cluster/farm is a perfect step in that direction.

Rich Fleming: [Bes-admins] SQL Database: 900 users on MSDE... you're asking for trouble.
I would absolutely move to a remote SQL 2005 server solution as soon as possible.
Here's a KB article for with migration steps:

Moller, Doreen: [Bes-admins] SQL Database: Hi Everyone,
Do you know if it is desirable to have the SQL database on a separate
server or is it best to have the SQL database local. Our Company deploys
SQL Server farms. Our BES has almost 900 users and is on MSDE. We need
to migrate to full blown SQL. We are running BES 4.1.6 for MS Exchange. [...]

Guido Strucksberg: [Bes-admins] Enterprise Activation Issue: I know this issue..
and the fix from RIM does not work
You need to hide the EA window.
Open the service books and delete and undelete the Service book Desktop
SYNC
The EA will restart and finish soon.
I know it will work
Best, Guido
