Besiktas bag Matteo Ferrari

Turkish champions Besiktas have signed former Everton defender Matteo Ferrari from Genoa on a four-year deal.

It is understood that the 29-year-old has moved for a fee in the region of €6million (£5.2m), with a salary reported at €2.5m (£2.1M) for each season.

Ferrari has been capped 11 times by Italy, but the last of those outings came five years ago.

He began his career at Inter Milan in the 1996/97 season and made eight appearances for Everton in a loan spell from Roma in the 2005/06 campaign.

Besiktas JK settled on 61st place in IFFHS rankings

According to International Football History and Statistics Federation (IFFHS), Besiktas football team moved down to 61st place from 60th place on June rankings.

Black Eagles settled on 61st place in IFFHS rankings with the total of 143 points. While Galatasaray took the 47th and Fenerbahce remained in the 53th place.

Spanish team FC Barcelona is at the top on rankings with 315 points.

Report: Matteo Ferrari agrees Besiktas terms

Matteo Ferrari is ready to part company with Genoa after a single season at the Stadio Marassi, as Sky Sport 24 reports that the 29-year-old has accepted an offer from Turkish outfit Besiktas.

According to the Corriere Mercantile, negotiations began two weeks ago and personal terms with the player were reached over the last few days.

Ferrari has allegedly been offered a lavish three-year contract and now Besiktas will only have to negotiate a fee with Genoa who seem disposed to release the player for the right price.

The Turkish press are confident that the deal will go through, but a final decision is expected by tomorrow.

The Italy international, who is of Algerian origin, only joined Genoa from Roma on a free transfer last summer, and played a crucial role in the stellar season of the Grifoni, who fought Fiorentina all the way for a place in next season’s Champions League before eventually qualifying for the Europa League.

Marca: Metzelder sign a 3-year deal with Eagles

The Spanish newspaper has reported that the 28-year-old has agreed a three-year contract with the Turkish champions, where he will link up with fellow Germans Fabian Ernst and Michael Fink.

Metzelder joined Los Blancos two years ago but injuries have rather hindered the impact he has been able to make at the club.

Any transfer will depend on a suitable fee being agreed between the two clubs, but that shouldn’t prove to be a great difficulty as Real are looking to offload up to ten players before the start of the new season.

Besiktas eye Pavlyuchenko, Saha and Benayoun

Besiktas are lining up a triple raid on the Premier League for Roman Pavlyuchenko, Yossi Benayoun and Louis Saha.

The Istanbul club's boss Mustafa Denizli is determined to strengthen his attacking options for next season's Champions League campaign after winning the Turkish Super League for the first time in six years.

His list of targets include 27-year-old Russia striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, who Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to offload after just one season in England. The former Spartak Moscow player has also been linked to Stuttgart and Roma.

An alternative for Besiktas would be Everton's former Manchester United marksman Louis Saha.

And Denizli will also test the water for Liverpool's Yossi Benayoun, the 29-year-old winger who has also been linked to Barcelona.

Besiktas will also battle Fulham, Aston Villa, Everton and West Ham United for Eidur Gudjohnsen, the versatile form Chelsea player who looks set to leave Barcelona this summer.

Adidas becomes official sponsor of Besiktas

Both Besiktas JK President Yıdırım Demirören and Adidas’ General Manager Haluk Özmutlu announced the two-year sponsorship deal in a joint press release.

Eagles are looking to sign Portsmouth's Utaka

The 27-year-old Nigeria midfielder (above) is also a target for St Etienne but Besiktas hope to land him for about £1million.

Utaka cost Rennes £7m in 2007, but debt-ridden Pompey are looking to cut their wage bill.

Utaka's team-mate Sol Campbell, 34, is thinking over an offer of a twoyear deal from Atromitos, newly-promoted to the Greek equivalent of the Premier League. Campbell has been offered a twoyear deal.

Fenerbahce and Basle have expressed an interest in the former England centre-back, as have St Etienne, who are also eyeing Portsmouth defender Noe Pamarot. Campbell, who expressed a desire to finish his career abroad, and Pamarot are out of contract.

Sean Davis has already left Fratton Park for Bolton on a free, while Hermann Hreidarsson has signed a new 12-month contract.

Nihat Kahveci returned to Besiktas

Turkish champions Besiktas are in talks with Spanish side Villarreal over the transfer of their Turkey international striker Nihat Kahveci, the Istanbul club announced.

"Negotiations are ongoing with the player and his Spanish club," read a statement from Besiktas.

Nihat Kahveci met Besiktas president Yildirim Demiroren while on holiday in Izmir, western Turkey on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old is officially in negotiations with his former side, whom he left in 2002 to begin a highly successful spell with Real Sociedad in Spain.

From there he went to Villarreal in 2006, and while his time at the Madrigal has been plagued with injury, he retains a formidable goalscoring record.

Nihat, who spent four years at Besiktas between 1998 and 2002 after graduating from their youth set-up, has agreed to sign a four-year contract at the club.

Nihat has over 60 international caps to his name and represented his country at the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan™ and UEFA EURO 2008.

He joined Spanish side Real Sociedad from Besiktas in 2002, playing there for four years before being snapped up by Villarreal in 2006.

This has persuaded his boyhood club to part with a fee reportedly in the region of €4.5 million to bring the Turkish international home.

It is expected that Nihat will sign a three-year deal over the coming hours to make the deal official.

Nihat failed to score a league goal last season in what was a campaign massively ruined by injury, but the previous season saw him net 18 times in 25 league appearances.

Edouard Cisse sign for Marseille

The former West Ham midfielder is available on a free transfer from Besiktas and will again link up with Didier Deschamps - who he worked under at Monaco.

Cisse has told that he is delighted to be working with Deschamps again.

"It is good work again with Deschamps," he told skysports.com.

"He has been very influential in my career, I loved my time at Monaco with him."

Cisse is reportedly seen as a replacement for Modeste Mbami - who looks set to leave Marseille.

Meanwhile, Deschamps admits he wants Marseille to bring in some big names.

Linked with Porto's Lucho Gonzalez amongst others, he said: "I would prefer three big names than six or seven average ones.

"So our ideas are now very clear, but I won't tell you more."

Obafemi Martins chased by Besiktas

The Turkish champions are urgently seeking extra firepower to boost their challenge on two fronts next season.

Besiktas are determined to make an impact in the Champions League for the first time, and see Martins as a potential attacking spearhead.

Although he has insisted he is happy to stay at St James’s Park, newly- relegated Newcastle will be receptive to any serious bid for Martins as they bid to slash their wage bill.

And Besiktas would be able to offer the 24-year-old a more attractive salary than the middling Serie A clubs considering offering him a return to Italy.

Besiktas are a club on the up, having just won the Turkish league and cup double.
They are also eyeing Tottenham’s target man Roman Pavlychenko and Everton’s Louis Saha.

But Martins is Besiktas’ favoured target, particularly as Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce are also on the Nigerian’s tail.

Meanwhile, even if Martins is sold, Mike Ashley’s hopes of achieving his £100 million asking price for Newcastle are set to be scuppered by the club’s crippling wage bill.
