Direction (1 - 5) : Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it. Certain words/phrases are printed in bold to help you to locate them while answering some of the questions.
            The outside world has pat answers concerning extremely impoverished countries, especially those in Africa. Everything comes back, again and again, to corruption and misrule. Western officials argue that Africa simply needs to behave itself better, to allow market forces to operate without interference by corrupt rulers. Yet the critics of African governance have it wrong. Politics simply can't explain Africa's prolonged economic crisis. The claim that Africa's corruption is the basic source of the problem does not withstand serious scrutiny. During the past decade I witnessed how relatively well-governed countries in Africa, such as Ghana, Malawi, Mail and Senegal, failed to prosper, whereas societies in Asia perceived to have extensive corruption, such as Bangladesh, Indonesia and Pakistan, enjoyed rapid economic growth
            What is the explanation ? Every situation of extreme poverty around the world contains some of its own unique cases, which need to be diagnosed as a doctor would a patient. For example. Africa is burdened with malaria like no other part of the world, simply because it is unlucky in providing the perfect conditions for that disease : high temperatures, plenty of breeding sites and particular species of malaria transmitting mosquitoes-that prefer to bite humans rather than cattle.
            Another myth is that the developed world already gives plenty of aid to the world's poor. Former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Paul O'Neil expressed a common frustration when he remarked about aid for Africa : "We've spend trillions of dollars on these problems and we have damn near nothing to show for it". O'Nell was no foe of foreign aid. Indeed, he wanted to fix the system so that more U.S. aid could be justified. But he was wrong to believe that vast flows of aid to Africa had been squandered. President Bush said in a press conference in April 2004 that as 'the greatest power on the face of the earth, we have an obligation to help the spread of freedom. We have an obligation to feed the hungry". Yet how does the U.S. fulfill its obligation ? U.S. aid to fanners in poor countries to help them grow more food runs at around $ 200 million per year, far less than S1 per person per year for the hundreds of millions of people living in subsistence farm households.
            From the world as a whole, the amount of aid per African per year is really very small, just $30 per sub-Saharan African in 2002. Of that modest amount, almost $5 was actually for consultants from the donor countries, more than $3 was for emergency aid, about $4 went for servicing Africa's debts and $5 was for debt-relief operations. The rest, about $12, went to Africa. Since the "money down the drain" argument is heard most frequently in the U.S. it's worth looking at the same calculations for U.S. aid alone In 2002, the U.S. gave $3 per sub Saharan African. Taking out the parts for U.S. consultants and technical co-operation, food and other emergency aid, administrative costs and debt relief, the aid per African came to grand total of 6 cents.
            The U.S. has promised repeatedly over the decade, as a signatory to global agreements like the Monterrey Consensus of 2002, to give a much larger proportion of its annual output specifically up to 0.7% of GNP, to officially development assistance. The U.S.'s failure to follow through has no political fallout domestically, of course. because not one in a million U.S. citizens even knows f statements like the Monterrey Consensus, But no one should underestimate the salience that it has around the world. Spin as American might about their nation's generosity, the poor countries are fully aware of what the U.S. is not doing.

SBI SELECTION PROCEDURE:

(a)     Phase-I: Written Examination (250 marks) consisting of Objective Tests and Descriptive Test.

(i) Objective Tests (200 marks):
The Objective Tests with 2 hour duration will consists of 4 Sections with 50 marks each as follows:

         (a) Test of English Language (Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension etc)

         (b) Test of General Awareness, Marketing and Computers

         (c) Test of Data Analysis and Interpretation

         (d) Test of Reasoning (High Level)

The candidates are required to qualify in the Objective Tests by securing passing marks, in each of the tests, to be decided by the Bank on the basis of the performance of all the competing candidates taken together in each test to a minimum required level for each category.
(ii) Descriptive Test (50 marks): The Descriptive Test with 1 hour duration will be of “Test of English Language (comprehension, short précis, letter writing & essay)”. The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank. Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests as stated above in (i).
(b)     Phase-II: Group Discussion (20 marks) & Interview (30 marks)
The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test will be arranged in descending order in each category and the candidates in the order of merit, subject to 3 times the number of vacancies in each category, will be called for Group Discussion and Interview. The qualifying marks in Group Discussion & Interview will be as decided by the Bank.
(c)     Final Selection:
The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-I and Phase-II separately. Marks secured by the candidates in the Written Test (out of 250 marks maximum) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Discussion & Interview (out of 50 marks maximum) are converted to out of 25. The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Written Test and Group Discussion & Interview out of 100 for each category. The selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.

Results of the candidates who have qualified for Phase II and thereafter, the list of candidates finally selected will be available on the Bank’s website. Final select list will be published in Employment News/Rozgar Samachar.

General Tips before interview

4. Do not be argumentative. Present your viewpoint and be professional. If you do not agree with something the Interviewer has said do not spurn it as invalid. Learn to understand their point of view even if it clashed with your own. This does not mean that you need to accept their point of view.

5. Be prepared with questions for the Interviewer. Most interviewers will give you a chance to ask questions. Use this opportunity to show your knowledge and interest in the company. Also this is a good opportunity to clear any doubts that you have.

6. Address the Interviewer politely. It is always polite to refer to the Interviewer as SIR or Maam. You can also address them their Surname (Mr. XXX or Mrs. XXX). Do not use terms such as Honey, Girl, Dude, Yaar etc.

7. Be Confident. Be confident, you have prepared well and this should show in your confidence level in the interview.

All that u have to do is be urself….don fear…n be frank .they are very smart people.. so…never lie…answer confidently..u will get through it.Be thorough with everything u put in ur resume and ur project(project questions were asked in all the panels) At 5.30 they announced the result n my name was in the list.

PCS (PATNI) PAPER ON 28th DECEMBER 2007

Hi all this is Maruthi Rao an Engineering Graduate in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) I attaned PCS (Patni computer Systems Ltd) on 28th Dec. On 24th Dec I got a mail from 1 of the PCS HR that they want people for Software Testing, stating that she saw my resume in Naukri.com she asked my response on that.As soon as I saw the mail I mailed my resume with my willingness.

On 26th Dec(I saw it on 27th afternoon)

I got the mail from the same HR, that on 28th Dec I need to attend for Aptitude test->Group discussion.

Time of Reporting: 10.00am

My Venue was Patni Knowledge Pank, Airoli, Navi Mumbai.

They asked me to come with the Resume, photo and Printout of the mail.

Next day I reached on time took ID card from Security

By 10.00 all occupied there respective places.

10.15 Our Xam Started.

Now coming to the Pattern of the exam: It was a 1hr 10min (70 min) test with 60 questions.(Objective type)

The paper was divided in 3 parts.

a) English (15 ques)
b) Analytical ability (15ques)
c) Quantitative ability (30ques)

There was a sectional Cut off with negative (they told while distributing papers)

English, it was the simplest n silliest Que paper tat I have ever seen.....simple questions like fill in the blanks (a, an, the).few other were ……sentence was given n 1 word in the sentence marked we need to find out the synonyms/antonyms.

These all were of about 8 marks, after that i had a passage for remaining marks.

The passage was on open source related (to software) n was quite easy 1 to do.

For Analytical n quantitative part I suggest u to go through R.S Aggarwal Quantitative, Verbal and Non verbal books.

The topics on which they focused were….

Ratio n proportion,

Percentages,

Profit & Loss,

Direction problem,

SI, CI, Chain Rule,

Blood Relation,

Data Sufficiency,

U need to b fast & correct if u want to clear the cutoff

At 11.25am they took the papers n asked us to wait for the result.

After ½ hr they announced the result. 22 were short listed for next session i.e. GD

They had arranged snacks for us, they asked us (4 all) to have it n asked the selected students to come back for GD.

Coming to GD,

We 22 members were divided into group of 2…11 members in each group.

My name was in 1st group.

They provided a paper for rough work (to note down the pts...etc…)

My GD topic was Advertisements r more about glitters not reality.

They provided 2 min for rough work (to think on that topic…)

After that GD started we had a nice discussion (Me contributed some healthy points)...After that HR (two ladies) asked each 1 of us to give conclusion.

If unfortunately u r not able to speak in GD, I advise make use of these kind of golden opportunities and try to put a healthy conclusion (don’t wait for it u may not get a chance for conclusion so try to speak in GD itself…many time the persons who conclude in good manner gets selected)

After GD was over, HR asked us to write our conclusion in that paper, with some pts about PCS & left the room after 5 min they came with the names...

Out of 11 members she announced 7 names including mine….

After that she gave us a form n asked us to bring it on day of Interview (said it will b on 3rd Jan)

On 2nd Jan evening I got a call for Interview,

Venue, reporting time was the same, I reached by 9.15am

Interview started at 9.40am….there were about 5-6 panels…..

At around 10.20 I was called for interview……

My Interview was taken by a Lady HR, she was very cool…..

As I knocked the door n asked for permission...

HR: with a smile get in Maruthi..right Take Ur place.

Me:s….thanked with a smile.

HR: How r u? U can call me abcabc….. (Had an introdution).

Me: I m fine.abcabc & Thanked (with a smile)

HR: how did u come here ?

ME: by Patni Bus (they have arranged for us)

HR: can we start with small introduction of u, Ur ’s family, Ur education background, and one project that u have motioned in ur resume.

ME: sure (with a smile) Started in a full flow…after some time when i was explaining my project I was not able to make out the correct sense of my project (as it can’t be explained without any Sketch work) so, I asked her a paper for it…she gave me a paper n I again stated in a full flow….after some time she was satisfied with my explanation

HR: why did u go for this project?

ME: blablabla……

Then some questions related to my project (I was prepared for it becoz in of campus they mainly concentrate on Project)

Then she started asking me questions from my resume(covered almost every pt that I motioned about me in my resume)…… She asked me about my long term goals n my efforts for it asked to explain with an example

Then she asked me about subject….

After some time I found her satisfied with my answers……as she started telling me about the company the work I need to do (as I already said they called us for testing field) was telling me how a person should b in testing field… (This was the time I found myself in safe place n was sure to find my name in the final list).

HR: ok u wait out side the Other HR person will let u know the result.

ME:ok madam.

HR: Thanq Maruthi. (With a big smile)

ME: Thanq madam (With a big smile)

Walked out happily.

After few min 1 HR person came to me. Saying u r Maruthi Right…..

ME:Ya

HE said Congrats u r now in patni computers…me thanked him with a smile...

Then he told me they will send offer letter in a week……..

So I advice….always be with projects/Paper Presentations that u have….be ready for any type of question from ur resume….so plz take care while preparing ur resume.

Finaaly from our team 5 got shortlisted and I am one of them

But there was also a case in which 9 people got selected out of 10 .so don’t think they will filter do ur job rest will happen automatically

We waited for one and half hour they gave one application form and asked to fill details

I was very happy as though I got the job but any way waiting for the HR round finally HR called .also my HR is so nice he is very quite and asked

I am patni ite . I got many new friends there we shared many fruitful issues even if didn’t get selected don’t get vexed u will get good friends new prespective of ideas .

Guys also be prepared for technical also I thought they will conduct only one round but patni is fast they conducted every round within a single day and announced the result within same day. So prepare for all rounds

Guys this is my 58 th interview and finaaly I have won the battle. I have consequently failed for 57 times but never let my hope.so always prepare urself for the next interview never let ur confidence my best wishes to meet u in patni

Sixth Pay commision report

Justice B N Srikrishna on Monday submitted the Sixth Pay Commission's report to Finance Minister P Chidambaram. The Commission has recommended a hike of about 40% in salaries of Central government staff and officers, along with their counterparts in defence and paramilitary forces. Among other recommendations, the Commission has asked the government to retain the current HRA in A1 cities. For HRA in non-A1 cities, the panel has recommended a hike of 10-20%.

The panel has recommended ending all gazetted leaves except three national holidays, but has recommended the increase in the duration of maternity leave to six months.

Among some of the most welcome suggestions is the hike in pension at the age of 80, 90, 95 and 100. Further, the Commission has recommended that the pay scales of Central government staff and officers, and their counterparts in the defence and paramilitary forces be revised from January 1, 2006.

Central government employees' remuneration includes a basic salary, a 50% dearness pay merged with the basic and a 47% dearness allowance of the total.

Excluding the arrears that would accrue to the 55 lakh employees, the annual impact of the new wage jump is estimated at Rs 12,561 crore.

The Commission, headed by Justice B N Srikrishna, was constituted in October 2006. It had been given 18 months to submit its report.

The panel's recommendations are likely to benefit an estimated 4.5 million Central government employees.

There were generally three rounds...
1) Aptitude test...(includes aptitude+verbal reasoning+non-verbal reasoning+comprehension(gre type))
2) Technical interview(HR+technical)
3) HR round

APTITUDE TEST:It consisted of 5 sections each with atleast 10 questions while one or two sections contained 20 questions.There were altogether 75 questions which u have to answer in 1 hr only(remember time is very very imp in this round).The sections were:

a) Verbal reasoning and analytical

b) Non verbal reasoning and analytical

c) MCQ-questions based on English grammar(very easy)

d) English comprehension…( Do it at last..coz it consumes time)

ThOrough prep from RS Aggarwal(verbal,non-verbal,quantitave) is enough to pass the aptitude test besides having minimum base in english.

Anyway the result was declared within 40 mins and luckily I was selected.

So frnds first of all about the Written Exam there will Be 5 Sections:

2 sections of verbal and non verbal :

Questions like find the missing term ….series completion ….some logical reasoning questions ( consumes a lot of time ) ….do all from R> S AGGARWAL verbal And non verbal consume your time efficiently here ….

3 sections of English :

General fill in the blanks like prepositions and verbs ….

Easy synonyms….

N a reading comprehension part ……

This whole section is a bit easy one but prepare these prepositions n verbs ….

Now the biggest thing there will b 75 questions in 5 sections n time is 60 minutes….

So please take care of your time ….n 1 more thing they told us no negative marking but people who attempted a limited questions right were selected but who attempt all ques with some guesses were not selected so now you have to decide what to do ….but if u take my suggestion then just do only those questions where you are sure ya u can also guess but upto a limit …n 1 more thing there is sectional cut off …..

Now lastly for written part I will suggest you to do some prep from R.S aggarwal no need of tension …

After the written exam I was one of successful candidate n I was called for technical interview which was like this …

ROUND-1: - Written Test

30 quantitative aptitude questions ONLY (refer R.S aggarwal).

Time limit of 45mins

Some quests
Avg of 5 nos is 6, in that 3 nos avg is 8, whats avg of other 2? Ans- 3

Similar questions on area, time/work, %age, age, speed…

Sorted candidates were 51 out of 115.

NOTE: - aggregate matters on Ur selection in round-1 as well, if u have agg > 70 then u r almost guaranteed a spot in the GDs...

ROUND-2: - GD

3 groups of 17 people each made...

Topics: - cricket, censorship, and another one!

Out of 51, 39 were selected, twas the easiest round to clear…

ROUND-3: - TECHNICAL WRITTEN TEST.

For respective branches, questions of their types were allotted, there was no time limit as such they wanted to measure the approach of the candidate towards questions... around 8 quests were given and 3hrs allotted...

Some topics of help- C (definitely for computer science guys) Microprocessor (elect guys)

Filtration: - out of 39, 21 were selected for the next round.

ROUND-4: - HR INTERVIEW.

Simple interview with basic HR questions, Be prepared with the company profile etc...

Finally 18 from 21 were selected…

There were totally 3 rounds..

1.General aptitude.

2.Group Discussion.

3.Tech+hr interview.

General Aptitude:

The general apptitude consisted of 7 sections… Sections 1,2,3,4 had time for each section.. 5-7 remaining time.. 97 questions in 60 min...

Section 1:

4 flow charts.. each flow chart consisted of 5 questions.. so totally 20 questions my dear friends.. Here problems were of the type where we have to check from the options given and mark it for the appropriate symbol.

Eg: for a rectangle symbol the options will be 1.A ranges from 2.5 to 3.5 .,2. A ranges from 2 to 2.5, 3,4,5. something like that…

Friends these problems are really very easy if u understand the sample flow chart given that is solved..

Section 2:

This is the speed maths section.. here 12 questions were asked that r to be solved in 3 minutes…

Eg.

3*512/63=? Problems of these types ….

U can solve this section by seeing the approximate answer… Please be ACTIVE and fast…

Section 3:

This section consisted of 20 questions that r to be solved in 3 minutes..

Its very very easy if u understand the sample problem given with u solution..

A passage of lines on some situation like the communication in an e-mail…. And few questions based on that…(pretty simple).

Analytical & Logical reasoning
Friends I have not remembered the order of questions but I am telling the questions in such a order that I follow and I am sure that you also get advantage if you solve question in such order.
>Syllogism: (5 question) – Friends not only in Infosys but also in others first attempt this question. It is very easy to solve.
Question Pattern: Statement: All A is B. Some B is C.

Conclusion: I,II
You have no need to memories all the rule of R.S. Agrawal and even you have no need to draw vein Diagram to solve it, If you follow Time’s CAT materials. There is very simple rule in Time’s materials by which you can solve a syllogism with in 15 sec.

>Figure Series: (5 questions)- This is really very simple. For practice see Agrawal. But don’t waste too much time for it.
>Dice & Cube Problem:(5 questions)- In my apti the prob was like below:
A cube is given and is painted six side with six diff colors.
Red is adjacent of yellow and green.
Pink is opposite of yellow.
Brown is in the bottom face

Now Q:1)Which color is in the top face?
Q:2) Which color in the opposite face of Red?
But there may also come others pattern:
There is a cube and it is cut in 27/64/125 equals pieces of cube. Now two face is colored with black, two green, two red.

>Puzzel: (5 questions) – Keep ur head cool for these question. I know puzzle makes everyone puzzeled. Read the question carefully draw the diagram, matrix and put the data one by one according to given information. I am sure that every one can solve it.
>Data Interpretation: (5 question) – A chart, graph, table will be given….and you have to solve some problem on statistics. It will too much time conserving section so do it at last…..and also follow the Option elimination process.

English Section:
Friends I am really very week in this section. But as I have cleared so you can clear it easily.
>Two passages and 5 question from each passages: Do it at the last. And before reading the passage see the question one time.
>Sentence Correction: Be care about tense mistake, spelling mistake, using of pronoun…..
>Fill in the Blanks: Gain a details idea on preposition, phrase, idioms.
>Theme Detection.

HR Interview
Now the final section. The only one solution to crack the interview is keeping yourself cool. Friends believe me the Infosys HR panel are the coolest person in the world(At least for my panel). And always think that they are taking your Interview to sect you , Not to reject you. Be friendly, polite with them……

I was in the two persons’ panel. And I was interviewed two times. After Completing the first interview one interviewer told me “Shubhadip, we are very sorry, Please wait for 5 min outside, we may call you again. ”

Once u clear written Round interview is just a formalty . they ask some basic puzzles like

1. You are given two candles of equal size, which can burn 1 hour each. You have to measure 90 minutes with these candles. (There is no scale or clock). Also u r given a lighter.
Ans: 1. First light up the two ends of the 1st candle. When it will burn out light up one end of the second candle. (30+60=90)

2. Try the similar problem to measure 45 minutes.
Ans: First light-up the two ends of the 1st candle and one end of the 2nd candle. When the 1st candle will burn out ,then light up the both ends of the 2nd candle (15+30=45)

3. You r given a thermometer. What can u do by this without measuring the temperature?
Ans: if u put thermometer into a tree it won’t grow anymore, will just die off

4. How it is possible to place four points that are equidistance from each other? OR U r a landscape designer and your boss asked u to design a landscape such that you should place 4 trees equidistance from each other. (Distance from each tree to the other must be same)
Ans: Only 3 points can be equidistant from each other. But if u place points in the shape of a pyramid then its possible

8. How can u measure a room height using a thermometer?
Ans: temp varies with height. but its dependent on various other factors like humidity, wind etc.

9 What is the height of room if after entering the room with a watch ur head strikes a hanging bulb?
Ans: Oscillate the hanging bulb. Calculate the time period for one complete oscillation by Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM) of the handing bulb. Put it in the formula T=2 * 3.14 * (L/G)^1/2 L will be the length of the hanging thread. Add the L with ur height to get the height of the room.

Ans: Drop the stone and find the time taken for the stone to reach the ground. find height using the formula

1.WRITTEN TEST-

This was an online test 90 questions ,90 minutes. The test comprised of three sections in the online test you have to go in serial order for three sections. Within the section you may revert back to any question within that section. Time is limited for each section.

SECTION A – verbal section 32 questions,20 minutes. 10 antonyms 10 synonyms, 1 sentence complition , 1 read comprehension . it is very difficult to manage time in this section. NOTE: WITHOUT GRE-BARRONS (12th EDITION) ITS VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO CLEAR THE WRITTEN TEST.

2.TECHNICAL (T.R.):To I&C students its my suggestion prepare atleast 1 subject really well.I prepared micro processors.They asked me to explain 8085 block diagram and also abt programming while performing practicals. Prepare C and C++ as per ur resume.they asked me differences between C and C++. Also I was asked to write a program on factorial.

3.H.R.:Here situations were given to me like on customer satisfaction.Basically they are checking ur confidence.why TCS ? why TCS should hire you? Strengths, weakness.

FEW POINTS:

1. Prepare ur resume wid utmost care.

2. Refer to papers on this site .These are really very beneficial.

3. Greet them well when u go for inter-view.

4. Keep smiling.

5. Eye-contact is very important.

6. Do not argue.Remember they know much more than u do.Be polite.

Capgemini Placement Papper Pattern

Capgemini has generally 2-3 sets of question booklets but

still try to appear in the second batch. Paper has 3 sections.

1.Quantitative 25 ques
2. Analytical 30 ques
3. Verbal ques 25 ques

The most easy section is the verbal section. Just prepare Barrons well.

One or the other unsolved test papers of Barron's are replicated

as it is in the papers...that means antonyms, synonyms, sentence correction ..

fill in the blanks words like gaffe, contentious, altrustic, belligerent....

Quantative is so so ..i mean 60 % is easy and rest is a bit tough...go thru the

geometric theorms, formulas, quadriatic and linera section well.

Analytical is the most tricker one..it's very tempting bcoz 1
paragraph may fetch you 4 correct answers...puzzles..all puzzles like
1 speaks french b speaks chinesse and english..c speaks french and ...
so arrange them in a comfortable position so that they can converse with each other...other question's like a heavier then b, m heavier then i and j , k lighter then d who is d heaviest ?? so on.....
15 question's are easy but very time consuming and rest questions although seem to be easy but try avoiding to attempt all questions coz that will eat up all your time unless you are very good at analytical.....

In the interview they will ask you puzzles and technical questions from any language you tell them.For puzzles refer book told in evalueserve placement paper in this blog.

If you tell you know C,they will ask you questions from c only.But its better is you have knowledge of c++.

Electronics guys should have knowledge of unix and java for clearing the test only.
