Prior to making this halloween decoration, you should gather as many fallen leaves of different shapes and colors as you can find.

Cut the center from each paper plate prior to giving one to each child. These will be the base for the homemade wreaths.

Glue leaves to the paper plates. You can glue them to cover the entire plate, randomly around the plate or even as a border around only the edge, whichever you prefer. Once you’ve glued the leaves to the paper plate, leave the plates to dry for 24 hours or at least overnight.

In the meantime let the children draw Halloween images on the construction paper. Here are some ideas:

Pumpkins (from orange construction paper, use the black marker to draw the face on their pumpkins)
Ghosts, Mummies, Bones (from white construction paper)
Cats, Witch Hats (made from black construction paper, you can use the yarn to put a tail on the cat and hair on the witches head)

Once the children have picked out and drawn which decorations they’ll be using, carefully cut them out and paste them to the wreath. When the children are happy with the way the decorations are placed, it’s time to glue them to the leaves.

Allow some time for the decorations to dry completely.

Enjoy your child’s creation by hanging it on the front door or his or her bedroom door for all your friends and family to see and admire.

1. Pumpkin: You can’t go wrong when you dress your little one up in a cute pumpkin costume. You can usually find these as one-piece outfits during the Halloween season. Don’t forget to include the cute little hat that looks like the pumpkin’s top and stem. This look is always a hit, and it’s super adorable.

2. Tigger or Winnie the Pooh: These classic characters make a great costume for baby. Dress your little one up in a furry outfit with ears, and choose from any one of the popular Winnie the Pooh characters. These are definitely sweet and you really can’t go wrong with the look!

3. Pea Pod: If you have a tiny newborn, look for cute costumes that contain your baby in a green outfit that looks just like a pea pod. Add the little tiny knit hat and your baby will be the cutest little vegetable at the Halloween party.

4. Little Fairy Princess: For your little girl, dress her up as a cute little princess. Include a tiara, little dress shoes, and a little wand. Don’t forget to include the little wings and make sure they match her outfit.

5. Teddy Bear: There are so many super cute and furry bear and other animal costumes available today for babies, that you might have difficulty deciding which one to dress them up in. These costumes have little ears and a tail, and are warm and furry. You can’t go wrong with these!

6. Super Hero: For your little boy, you can choose from a wide variety of popular super hero costumes. Look for the Incredible Hulk, Spiderman, Batman, and Superman, to name a few.

First, draw a circle or hexagon on top of the pumpkin in preparation for making an opening large enough for your hand to reach through, then cut through the stem end of the pumpkin along your outline with a sharp knife or pumpkin-carving tool. Remove the stem end and scrape off any seeds or pulp.

Then use a large spoon to scoop out the seeds and pulp from inside the pumpkin.

Draw a pattern for the face on the clean pumpkin with a felt-tip pen, or scribe the lines into the skin using a pencil. Be sure to make the eyes, nose and mouth large enough; you’ll have a hard time cutting out tiny features when you’re using a big knife blade to saw through tough skin.

Follow your pattern as you cut all the way through the pumpkin, and push the cut-out features gently from the inside of the pumpkin and discard the pieces.

And then –  you are ready to light the candle inside!

Lighting is also important on Halloween night. Make sure you carry a flashlight or a glow stick so you can easily see where you’re going at night. Also, try not to wear costumes that are completely black or too dark. These can make you more difficult to see by motorists. Try to wear more light colored clothing if possible. Also, reflectors can help as well. If you don’t want to add the reflectors to the costume, simply add them to the Halloween candy bucket, a hat, or a backpack.

Since a lot of people still use lit candles in their pumpkins, be sure your child’s costume is not flammable. Most modern day costumes are regulated to be made of non-flammable material, but check the label to be sure. If your costume is home made, check the labels on the clothing and be sure that they are fire proof and safe. Costumes should not be too loose, as they can trail behind and accidentally knock candles over or catch fire.

Well fitting costumes are important when it comes to Halloween safety. If a child’s costume is too long, he or she can easily trip and fall. If the costume is too tight it can be uncomfortable. Be sure you choose a costume that fits just right to avoid accidents. With a little common sense and careful planning, you should be able to find a safe and comfortable costume for yourself and your children this and every Halloween.

Once you’ve gotten your costume planned out, it’s time to decorate and get ready for the party. Use false cobwebs and strew them on tabletops and along the staircase. Don’t forget to add the plastic spiders! You can buy large holiday themed cut outs in a huge selection of shapes and sizes as well, which will really give your home a cool look.

Light candles and dim the lights to give your home a more creepy effect (just be sure the candles are on a secure surface and far away from the reach of children).

You can also play some spooky sounds on a pre-recorded CD. These CDs can usually be found at a number of retailers during the Halloween season and they contain cool sound effects that will give off an air of creepy ambiance. Look for cool statues or figures you can use like black cats, bats, or ghosts.

Do a little research and make some creepy snacks for your guests at the monster party. There are plenty of interesting recipes to choose from where you can make the food look as gross and creepy as possible but in reality, it tastes great. With a little planning you can have an excellent monster Halloween party that your friends will remember for years to come.

Another delicious and spooky Halloween recipe that’s sweet and delicious is a dirt cake. There are several ways to make this desert, but all recipes include using Oreo cookies as the topping. Crumble the Oreos up to make the “dirt”, and include gummy worms on the top to give it a realistic look. Whatever type of cake you choose to make is up to you, as long as you include the Oreos and worms, you will have a “creepy” looking but delectable treat.

For interesting snacks, you can make a “Cyclops” hot dog. Simply slice green olives and use ketchup to apply them to the hot dog to make an eyeball. Then, drizzle the hot dog with more ketchup for the “blood”.

You can make eyeballs in many different ways. One is to cover cookies or marshmallows in white chocolate. Then, once cooled, you can “paint” on the iris using food coloring and then accent the whites of the eyes with red food coloring to give them a scary bloodshot look. White donuts are also a very easy and fun choice for the main part of the eyeball.

Sugar cookies are a fun and easy way to make any shape you wish in Halloween themes. You can use a pre-packaged cookie mix, and use cookie cutters in the shape of ghosts, pumpkins, and bats, just to name a few. Accent them with icing in colors of white, orange, and green. Look for any basic sugar cookie recipe for the actual cookies.

You can easily create unique and interesting fun invitations for you pool party.

Look for typical items by the pools (e.g. balls, inner tube, flip-flops…) and then use the actual items, bought in local 1-dollar shop or at e-bay and write the invitation on them with permanent marker.

The set-up depends of the children age.

For youngest, you can place cards with pictures as a clue, which will lead them to next clue.

For older children, you can write riddles as a clue, or you can cut out letters from the magazine, which the children have to put together to spell the right word.

The last clue should lead to the treasure, which could be bag of candies, party goody bags, bouncy balls… anything,  just make sure that all children get some(thing).

If there are lots of children, you may divide them in groups and hand them a list of common household goods, that they have to find. The first group to collect the things win and they receive the treasure. And have something ready for the runner-ups!
