It doesn't matter where you are from or where you're going, a travel guide of some sort, is always a good choice to make. And if your traveling to Beijing its no different - you want to know where to sleep (hotels), where to eat (restaurants) and where to go (activities and entertainment).

I know there are a whole bunch of websites out there that can help you with questions such as these but very few are actually informative to the point of actually being able to map out your trip.

Last year I was checking a few websites out and I found a small handful of sites that I even liked, let alone ones that were actually helpful. Then, I dug a little bit more and found a few sites that I really liked a lot.

Not only were they nice to look at, but they were informational and they helped me plan my trip! I liked one in particular because they had actual photos of places around Beijing which gave me a good idea of what to expect beforehand.

You never really know about a place until you see it in person and experience it or unless you see photos. And Im not talking about commercialized photos either! Real, raw, photos is what I like. And these websites do just that. Here are a few other things you can experience on these websites:

Beijing Gallery which included photos from food and drinks found in this great city along with architecture, The Great Wall Of China and even a Beijing subway! The galleries really are stunning, this was my favorite part of these websites.

Recommended Beijing Travel Books which had a few suggested reads such as the City Guide, and the Insiders Guide. Also included was Top 10 Beijing (Eyewitness Top 10 Travel Guides).

A how to guide on applying for a Visa. Obviously this is incredibly important since you need a Visa in order to travel anymore overseas! China Visas fall under different categories. There are 8 categories of ordinary Chinese visas:- C, D, F, G, J-1, J-2, L, X and Z. You can find out about the different categories in more detail at China's Embassy website.

The Top Ten Tourist Attractions in Beijing which is obviously the best places to visit in this city. Some of the places listed are - The Great Wall of China, The Summer Palace, The Beijing Zoo, and Lama Temple.

The "attractions" category gives you a nice little list with blogs you can read about regarding the different attractions to visit while in Beijing such as 798 Art Zone, Wangfujing Street and The Great Wall.

Lastly you are presented with all the different cultural districts within Beijing. These will include Chaoyang District, Chongwen District, Dongcheng District, Haidan District, Xicheng District, and Xuanwu District. Then within each District you will find information about that particular area. For example, lets take a look at a excerpt from Haidian District;

"A gorgeous public park, Fragrant Hills Park, rests at the foot of the Western Mountains. A pine/cypress forest, dotted with maple, persimmon, and smoke trees, Chinese cultural structures, and landscaped regions make up the park. It has a long history and was built in 1186 during the Jin Dynasty.

Another lovely place to visit in Haidian district is Beijing Botanical Garden, located in the Western Hills, not too far from Fragrant Hills. The garden houses more than 6,000 types of plant; there are: trees and shrubs, many varieties of tropical plants, fruit trees, and flowers. In addition, there is the Peony Garden, which is the home of rare and endangered plants."

So you see these websites can be incredibly helpful and useful when it comes to visiting this city. And as aforementioned you can also find places to eat and places to stay, you merely have to read the blogs accordingly. I think one of the first things I would do to find different places to eat and stay would be to find out which district you plan on visiting first.

Once you figure that out you can go ahead and read a few blogs provided about that particular place which will give you information such as restaurants, attractions and hotels. Then you can further your "trip" by taking a look at some of the photos and a few of the other blogs. You could even buy yourself a city guide so you can get a really good idea of what types of things are available in Beijing!

Iceland is Europe's westernmost country, and occupies a strategic location in the North Atlantic, straddling the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, on the edge of the Arctic Circle. One of the coldest countries in the world, it is also one of the world's most volcanically active hotspots. Iceland is known today for its mix of glaciers, bubbly hot springs, rugged fjords and fiery volcanoes.

Iceland can give you a truly unique diving experience you can't get anywhere else: diving between two tectonic plates, astride the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the fault line where two of the Earth's tectonic plates are drifting apart. It is not only unique, but it is also exclusive, only few people have dared to try the experience. To get to the diving site, you first have to drive deep into geo-thermal territory and tectonic plate activity. If you're not yet thrilled enough, you can drive the next day to its glaciers in the south and race snowmobiles.

The country is the most sparsely populated in Europe, with just 283,000 people living in an area the size of England or the US state of Kentucky. Over half of the population lives down in its southwestern corner, around Reykjavik, the small but cosmopolitan capital. The other decent-sized population center is Akureyri, up on the north coast.

What Else to Do

All long-distance buses and domestic planes begin their trips from Reykjavik. You can visit Geysir, the original geyser from which all other gushing hot springs get their name, and the spectacular waterfalls at Gullfoss. The country's only international airport at Keflavik is on the Reykjanes Peninsula, an area teeming with birdlife and whales.

Outside Reykjavik and the populated southwestern corner, the wilder side of Iceland meets your eye, wide-open spaces of vivid green fringed with coastlines of red and black volcanic sands set against a backdrop of brooding hills and mountains. On the west coast, in the towns of Borgarnes and Reykhold and the surrounding countryside, every landscape feature you see will be associated with parts of the Icelandic sagas.

The Snaefellsnes Peninsula is the country's most accessible hiking destination. Arguably, Iceland's most dramatic scenery is in the far northwest, the West Fjords, where you'll find tiny fishing villages ensconced at the foot of table-top mountains or tucked away in the neck of narrow fjords which protect the houses from ferocious Arctic storms that batter this exposed part of the country.

You can relax for a day at Akureyri. From here, it's easy to go inside the Arctic Circle to the island of Grimsey. The country's biggest tourist attraction outside Reykjavik is Lake Myvatn, one hour away to the east of Akureyri. Many species of duck and waterfowl nest in this lake, which is surrounded by evidence of volcanic activity, including long-dormant cinder cones and still-steaming lava fields. North of Myvatn is the small town of Husavik, the best place for summer whale-watching cruises, while just inland to the east you can hike along deep river gorges of the Jokulsargljufur National Park to the awesome Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall.

Iceland's most rewarding long-distance hiking route is found near the glacial lagoon, Jokulsarlon. The Porsmork trail is one of the world's most exhilarating walking paths. In the south coast, you can take a ferry to the Vestmannaeyjar (Westman islands) to survey the world's largest puffin colonies and have a look at Surtsey, the new island created by volcanic eruptions in the mid-1960s.

When to Go
Icelandic weather is notoriously unpredictable. In summer, there's a fair chance of bright and sunny days. Many bus routes through the interior don't start until late June or early July when the snow finally melts. The sun does not fully set during June, and though there's no true midnight sun, nights are light from mid-May to early August across the country. Between September and January, the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights can be seen. Hiking and camping are out of the question in winter.

Planning Your Trip
Most budget accommodations open only from late May to early September. In winter, there's little chance of accommodations other than large hotels in Reykjavik and the main towns. Given the long distances involved to reach Iceland, flying is the quickest and cheapest option. The highest airfares are around June to August when the weather is best. Fares drop September to November and April to June, and you get the best prices during the low season, November to March. The most convenient flights from Europe and Asia go through London; there are direct flights from the US, but Canadian travelers need to go via the US.

The city of Poitiers is an incredible encounter with and ancient university city. The University of Poitiers was founded in 1431 and has welcomed a large number of renowned thinkers. In fact Poitiers is one of the cities with the most students in France, with the students making up around 14% of the total population. This waterfall is a sight to watch because it is found inside a basin-like valley and surrounded by steep rocks and forest filled with tropic and pine tress. 10. Galle

Our Vacation Trip To Brazil

To be honest with you, before going to Ceara, Brazil, my husband and I did not know what to expect there. We were conscious that it could be both, unbelievably good or bad. To our surprise, what we discovered for ourselves was a very pleasant weather, lots of sun, and superb beaches.

All of the above make Ceara one of the main tourist destinations of Northeast in Brazil. It is located right below the line of the Equator, and has 573 km of coast along the Atlantic Ocean. The sea breeze softens the temperature, making the air to be about between 23C at night and 30C during the day all year around, and has a typical tropical climate.

Based on some dates and historians, Spanish expeditions arrived in Ceara in 1500, at Ponta Grossa Cape, but for some reasons the discovery was never officially recorded. Ceara's occupation began in 1603 with Pero Coelho de Sousa's expedition.

In 1649, the Dutchman Matthias Beck built fort Schoonenborch, that some years later would be called Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora de Assuncao, initial landmark of Fortaleza, which in 1823 was elevated to a city status by the Imperator Dom Pedro I. Later, when Province of the Ceara was separated from the Province of Pernambuco, Fortaleza became Ceara's capital city, which now a days is the fourth biggest city in Brazil, with a population more than 2400 000 people.

Our firs stop was in Fortaleza. What can I say about the city? Fortaleza is the city of contrasts. Modern Metropolis has beautiful beaches, green bluish sea, and wind is always blowing. Most people are friendly, usually laughing and having fun. The most famous to see there are Iracema, Futuro and Beira-Mar beaches. Every beach has its own charm and unique things to see and enjoy.

Beira-Mar beach for example, during the evening and at night turns into a place for the practice of jogging, biking, cultural manifestations, and shopping at the artisanship open-air market. On the other hand, close to the Porto das Dunas beach you will find the Beach Park, which is the biggest water park in Sough America.

I have to say that artesian art there fascinates, it is very diverse and includes rendas (lacework), embroidery, braided work in straw and lianas, ceramic, wood, leather, and many other inventive and beautiful handmaid works.

The cuisine in Fortaleza is International; you can dine from Japanese restaurant to Italian gourmet restaurants, but the main flavors that can be tasted all over Ceara are typical seafood dishes that are truly delightful, such as panelada, buchada, carne de sol (which can be found only in this province), baiao-de-dois and tapioca.

City of Fortaleza is beautiful, but you do not have to stop there, because it is much to see on the east and west coast from Fortaleza. SolNascente Coast (east) awaits you with amazing smaller cities, fishermen's villages and superb beaches as Caponga, Morro Branco and Praia das Fontes, with their fresh water fountains and the beautiful craft done with colored sand from the colorful sand cliffs that surround those spectacular beaches.

The surprises continue at Aracati, an historical city, considered National Patrimony, that every year at the end of February and beginning of March attracts thousands of people to its colorful and joyful carnival. It also has the Majorlandia and Canoa Quebrada white sand beaches, known and famous all over the world. Along the way you will enjoy scenery of coconut trees, more beaches with lots of wind ideal for the practice of surf and regattas.

SolPoente Coast (west) is the route of sun, cashew fazendas, sea and magic.
The west coast from Fortaleza has in its dunes, cliffs, ponds and lagoons some of its most significant features. Wide beaches, many of them still in primitive condition, and generally inhabited by fishermen communities that preserve their traditions.

You can see moveable dunes between sea, river, and green bluish lakes which is a unique landscape in the world. It has suffered from several destructions, but the worst attack made against it was in 1534, when "Silken Thomas" Fitzgerald, a courtier who had relinquished his loyalty to the English Crown, led an uprising.

The Dublin Castle has faced many changes, not only physically, but also in terms of the governing powers that resided within it. The castle has stood for centuries and has been constantly repaired, refurbished, and kept in the state that it is at present. 3. The Chester Beatty Library and Gallery

In 1999, one of the finest collections of Oriental art in the world that is owned by Sir Alfred Chester Beatty was moved into its galleries.

4. State Drawing Room and State Dining Room

The State Drawing Room used to be the receiving room, but it is not used as an entertainment area for foreign dignitaries. The State Dining Room dates from the initial construction of the castle.

5. The Bedford Tower

This clock tower dates from the 18th century. Its base is the Norman gate of the castle. The Irish Crown Jewels – a diamond Badge and the St. Patrick Star – were stolen from this tower in 1907 and unfortunately were never recovered.

6. Garda Siochana Museum

This museum is located in the Record Tower, which is what only remains of the original castle. It showcases a detailed history of the Irish police force.

An Unspoiled Vacation When Travel to Vietnam

The boys buzzed around on their motorcycles on this warm, drizzly Saturday night hoping to run out of gas. Or so the tour guide said. If the floods of motorcycles were all cars the streets would be jammed. The traffic lights and lines on the road are merely there for decorations. No one abides by them. I found myself in the middle of the road and all of a sudden loads of traffic came my way. I just stood there and let the traffic go around me.

I'm fortunate to have experienced Nha Trang Vietnam before tourism spoils this popular seaside resort, forecasted to be another Cancun. We had the boat to ourselves on the day cruise. Shaped like a silkworm, Tam Island is a quiet, picture perfect get-away-from-it-all. But who knows how it'll be five years from now.

Cruising closer to Temple Island the clutter of colourful fishing boats came to view. I couldn't believe my ears when told the 1.5 sq. km. island could be destroyed in 10 years to make way for condos.

Progress has not made life easier for many Vietnamese. While driving about the countryside I saw people washing clothes in the river, workers bent over in rice fields under the glaring sun, women both young and old carry heavy baskets suspended on sticks across their shoulders and farmers sowing rice seeds with water buffalo.

There are 67,000 M'Nong people remaining in Vietnam. The women are head of the household and children take their name. The people of the M'Nong village of Jun invited us to their Tet Eve festival (similar to New Year's Eve) celebrating with food, drink and song. The Australians on my tour sang their native songs. I declined to sing, saying I'd get kicked out of Vietnam travel. That got a chuckle.

Because of Tet, My Lai, site of the massacre on March 16, 1968, the single most shameful act of American involvement in Vietnam, was closed much to my disappointment.

Three nights weren't enough in the picturesque river town of Hoi An Vietnam. I lost myself on the main street of Tran Phu among the shops, tailors, restaurants, market and traffic jams then strolled along the bustling river.

Tickets in hand, our tour guide led us to Assembly Hall of the Fujian Chinese Congregation, displaying a replica of a Chinese boat used by Fujian families who fled China to Hanoi in the 17th century. The Chau Assembly Hall was built in 1776 by the Chinese and has a remarkable display of woodcarvings.

I was in awe of the incredible architectural design of Tan Ky House, 200-year-old well-preserved dwelling with hanging artwork of Chinese poems created with inlaid mother-of-pearls, each character made up of several intricately carved birds.

Built in 1593, the Japanese Covered Bridge has a pair of monkeys on one side and a pair of dogs on the other guarding the bridge. It has become an emblem of Hoi An.

Marble Mountains consist of five stone hillocks made of marble and each representing the five elements: Water, Wood, Fire, Metal or Gold, and Earth. We climbed the steps of the largest, Water, and reached a point to witness the beautiful view of the other four elements and South China Seas.

Walking on the white sand of China Beach watching the surf break, I wondered how many Americans on their R&R got home to tell family and friends of this tranquil beach in the midst of a war torn country.

One of the most scenic routes is Hai Van Pass, meaning Pass of the Ocean Clouds climbing up the Truong Son Mountain range for an unforgettable view of the South China Sea.

Hue was the site of the bloodiest battle of Tet Offensive. The walled Citadel contains the once magnificent Imperial City battered by wars, fire, typhoons, floods and termites. The Thai Hod Palace, present building dates 1833, escaped bomb damage while the Forbidden Purple City was mostly destroyed in 1968.

I soaked in the slow paced life cruising down Perfume River. People make boats their home and/or workplace. Thien Mu Pagoda is situated along the river. Across the main entrance is a blue Austin Car used by a monk who, in 1963, drove to Saigon and set himself on fire to protest against the Diem regime.

We cycled back to Hue with a stop at Tomb of Tu Duc, the longest Nguyen emperor for 35 years. He had 104 wives but no offspring because he became sterile after contracting smallpox. This tomb has it's own lake and pine forest.

After we said good-bye to our driver, pedicabs took us to a smoke-filled crowded train station. The train left for Hanoi 1 hour late.

A beautiful city combined of lakes, Chinese architecture, French colonial buildings and tree-lined boulevards, the capital Hanoi is known as the Paris of Vietnam. Hoan Kiem Lake, in the heart of the business district, means Lake of the Restored Sword. It was Valentine's evening when we walked past the lake; lovers strolled or sat on a bench.

With 36 streets each named after a particular craft, the Old Quarter is full of colour, hustle and congestion in this 1,000-year history of a maze of back streets to get lost if you've got the time.

It takes about three years to learn the art of maneuvering puppets attached to a long pole to make them look like they're literally walking on water behind a bamboo screen at the Water Puppet Theatre. The story is told in Vietnamese.

The creme de la creme of my Vietnam trip is Halong Bay (Halong tours), meaning "where the dragon descends into the sea". Many different stories are told of how a dragon created Halong Bay. Of course, geologists have a different view but I like the legend better. Our boat slowly cruised along some of the 3,000 limestone rocks rising out of the water on a misty, cool day. I was told if the sun shone, the rocks would sparkle like jewels.

I couldn't believe my vacation was over. What made this trip special? No one particularly liked the idea of my traveling here. The timing was perfect to enjoy the unspoiled beauty of Vietnam before hoards of tourists overrun the place. Yes, new hotels are being built. Internet cafes are there. At least there's no McDonald's - yet.

Four wheel driving is another favourite pastime in the emirate with several organisations offering tours of the dunes to visitors.

Abu Dhabi has a wonderful collection of parks, gardens and zoos that showcase the varied ecology of the region. The city has over 20 small parks scattered throughout with play equipment for children and young families. Sheikh Khalifa Park is a wonderful park filled with traditional Arabian architecture and landscaped gardens inspired by the great gardens of the world where visitors can lose themselves among the fountains and beautiful plants.

There are many historical places of interest to visit in Abu Dhabi, from the 200 year old Al Maqtaa Fort to the Heritage Village located on the Abu Dhabi breakwater where you can see and experience the traditional Bedouin culture and way of life with reconstructions of Bedouin goats hair tents and an encampment, traditional mud brick housing and a traditional fishing village. The Heritage Village also has several craftsmen still working in the traditional manner for visitors to observe.

Ajman is the smallest of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (or UAE). Ajman is undergoing dramatic growth and development like the rest of the United Arab Emirates so tourist attractions and activities as well as shopping, cultural and sporting opportunities are going to dramatically increase in the very near future. Currently there are three main tourist attractions in Ajman and this article will explore these further.

Shopping in Ajman is available in both modern malls, which offer many of the designer and luxury items you would expect from a modern shopping mall in the UAE, and the traditional souqs where local products such as traditional pottery can be purchased.

The Ajman Museum is also well worth a visit. This museum was opened in 1981and is housed in a fort that dates from the 16th Century. The museum has a strong emphasis on the traditional culture of the region and visitors cannot only see ancient artefacts but also modern reconstructions of traditional Bedouin ways of life including both social and trade reconstructions. The Ajman museum also houses a large collection of artefacts from the Mowaihat archaeological site.

The Mowaihat Archaeological site was discovered by workers laying a sewerage pipe in 1986. The site was then excavated as an archaeological site at which several copper implements numerous beads, a number of ceramic vessels and human remains among other artefacts have been unearthed. This site was the first site to be discovered that showed that the area was occupied in the Um al-Nar period.

Ajman's beaches have also long been a traditional tourist attraction, the climate of Ajman being superbly suited to beach life. Dolphins are common off the coast of Ajman and dolphin spotting is a popular recreational activity with both tourists and locals alike.

Ajman has a variety of food and places to eat out, you will find everything from western fast food outlets to high class restaurants and traditional cafe and street vendors. Even though Ajman is a Muslim state, alcohol can be purchased in restaurants and hotels.

This is the norm through most of the UAE; alcohol can be purchased by non Muslims in hotels and restaurants although it is generally not possible to purchase alcohol outside of these places.

Ajman is currently experiencing a huge growth in development so over the next few years tourism and tourist attractions will grow in number and variety. There are several theme parks and other tourist related developments currently under construction or well into the planning stages. Sports facilities, clubs and venues are also currently under development as are cultural attractions such as theatres, museums and galleries.

Aloha Tower

It has and continues to be a guiding beacon welcoming vessels to the City & County of Honolulu. Just as the Statue of Liberty greeted hundreds of thousands of immigrants each year to New York City, the Aloha Tower greeted hundreds of thousands of immigrants to Honolulu. At 10 stories and 184 feet (56 m) of height topped with 40 feet (12 m) of flag mast, for four decades the Aloha Tower was the tallest structure in Hawaii. Bishop Museum
The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum is a museum of history and science in the historic Kalihi district of Honolulu on the Hawaiian island of O'ahu. Founded in 1889, it is the largest museum in Hawai'i and is home to the world's largest collection of Polynesian cultural and scientific artifacts. Besides the comprehensive exhibits of Hawaiiana, the Bishop Museum has an extensive entomological collection of over 13.5 million specimens, third largest collection in the United States.

Diamond Head
Diamond Head is a defining feature of the view known to residents and tourists of Waikīkī alike. The volcanic cone is a United States State Monument. While part of it serves as a platform for antennas used by the U.S. government and is closed to the public, the crater's proximity to Honolulu's resort hotels and beaches makes the rest of it a popular destination. A 0.7 mile hike leads to the edge of the crater's rim. Although not difficult, the trail winds over uneven rock, through a tunnel and ascends 173 steps.

Honolulu Academy of Arts
The Honolulu Academy of Arts was chartered in 1922 by Anna Rice Cooke (Mrs. Charles Montague Cooke), who desired to share her love for the arts with the children of Honolulu. Since the doors opened April 8, 1927, the Academy has steadily grown to become Hawaii’s largest private presenter of visual arts programs, boasting a permanent collection of over 40,000 works of art from cultures around the world.

Iolani Palace

Iolani Palace is the only royal palace used as an official residence by a reigning monarch in the United States and is a National Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Two monarchs governed from ʻIolani Palace: King David Kalākaua and Queen Liliʻuokalani.

Lyon Arboretum

The Lyon Arboretum is a 200-acre botanical located at the upper end of Mānoa Valley in Hawaii. The Arboretum is open to the public on weekdays from 9 AM to 4 PM; admission is free. Much of the Arboretum's botanical collection consists of an artificial lowland tropical rainforest with numerous trails and small water features.

National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific

USS Arizona Memorial
