Live rock concerts were the rage in the 70's and they are still the rage. The essence of rock music does not just lie with the lyrics; it also lies with the electric guitar and the various sounds that it can produce. There are so many kids across the block who would give up anything to play like Ritchie Blackmore, Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Kirk hammett, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page etc. These men are not just some of the best guitarists of their times, they are legends.

Now if you are interested in learning how to play the guitar then the first thing you will need to buy is a guitar. Most people start with an acoustic and graduate to the electric guitar. It is quite difficult for anyone to choose the right electric guitar since there are hundreds of models and several brands out there in the market. If you are buying an electric guitar then you will need to also buy amplifiers, pick-ups, pick, tuner etc.
Electric guitars are available in a lot of variety, colors, and designs with the aerodynamic designs being one of the most popular. Don't go for the first electric guitar you see. You need to look around a bit and check out the prices and models before you buy one. In fact, one of the best ways to choose a guitar is by the brand or by the style. Here's our take on the four important styles:

-Stratocaster
This certainly is a show stealer and has a typical style. The most famous is the red and white color combination, which was extensively used by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. The Stratocaster is from Fender and has a neck bolted to the guitar body. Apart from this, it has double cutaway sides, 22 frets accompanied by a tremolo system or the wammy bar and three single-coil pickups. Fender designed the first Stratocaster in the early 50's. Some of the popular designs include:
1. Fender Deluxe Stratocaster: approx $600
2. Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar in Rosewood: Approx $1200
3. Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar in Maple: Approx $400
4. Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar in Rosewood: Approx $600
5. Fender Stratocaster Eric Johnson Signature model: Approx $1800

-Telecaster
The Telecaster is another creative instrument from Fenders. It is more than just a guitar it is a complete orchestra. It is a solid body electric guitar and comprises of dual pick-ups. The first Telecaster was manufactured by Leo Fender in the 1940's and has a single cutaway body. It doesn't have the tremolo or wammy bar but has two different single-coil pickups. Some of the popular Telecaster models include:
1. Fender American Telecaster HS guitar: $900-$1000
2. Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar: $400-$500
3. Fender 63 Telecaster Relic Solid Body Electric: $2500-$3000
4. Fender 72 Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar: $700-$800

-Les Paul
This is a classic guitar that has been designed by Gibson. The salient feature of a Les Paul's is its set neck construction, which means there are no joints or bolts. The body is a single cutaway and rounded. It is equipped with two humbucker pickups as well as a raised scratch-plate. If you want to play distorted sound then the Les Paul's will provide you with a varied range of such sound. Some of the legends who use the Les Pauls include Eric Clapton, Kirk Hammett (Metallica) and Slash (ex-G'N'R). Some of the famous Les Paul models include:
1. Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar: $3000-$3500
2. 1959 Les Paul Standard Guitar: $5500-$6000
3. Les Paul Vintage Mahogany Electric Guitar: $700-$800
4. Les Paul Classic Electric Guitar: $1800-$1900

-Gibson
Gibson is one of the greatest brands in music and all their guitar models are classic and can't be compared to any. Gibson was actually started in 1902 by Orville Gibson and has been responsible for giving the world some of the best acoustic and electric guitars. Some of the famous models include the arch-top Gibson L5 model, the ES-150 electric, Gibson Explorer, Flying V etc. Some of the legends who have played a Gibson or are still using it include Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Ace Frehley (KISS), Frank Zappa, and Toni Iommi (Black Sabbath) to name a few. Some of the popular Gibson models include:
1. Gibson Flying V Electric Guitar: $500-$600
2. Gibson SG 61 Classic Electric Guitar: $1500-$1600
3. Gibson Faded SG Special Electric Guitar: $550-$600
4. Gibson Explorer Pro Electric Guitar: $1100-$1200

These are the best brands in electric guitar. The other aspects that will help you to pick up a guitar include fretboard, the pick-ups, and the body. Full-bodied guitars are normally preferred as they can produce some of the best sounds that you will ever get to hear.

Les Paul guitars are normally priced in the thousands. If you look around there are some inexpensive Les Paul guitars to be found. Good inexpensive Les Paul guitars can be found for under $500 dollars. These types of instruments can provide years of playing enjoyment.

Our first of the cheap Les Paul guitars is the Epiphone Ultra electric guitar. The Ultra looks similiar to the Les Paul Standard, but to make it more "acoustic" sounding, its mahogany body has logically placed hollow cavities making it around 5.5 pounds lighter. It's very comfortable to play this guitar due to its belly contour on the back.

Next is the Epiphone Les Paul Special II electric guitar. This guitar is cheaply priced and provides a classic humbucker sound. The neck is a nice mahogany, and the fingerboard is rosewood with dot inlays. The hardware is chrome, plus it has tone and volume controls.

Our final affordable guitar under $500 is the Epiphone Les Paul 100 electric guitar. This instrument has two humbucker pickups, a fretboard of rosewood with a bolt-on mahogany neck, plus outstanding body wood. All this gives it one of the best sustaining tone characters. If you want to let your leads sing, try the Les Paul 100.
Paul wanted a guitar that better served the needs of jazz guitarists, one that offers more and keep the feedback resistance to the hollow Archtops were the norm over time, and would also be more versatile musically. Of course, these qualities are also suitable electric players in just about every other genre, and Les Paul Goldtops in its previous incarnations with P-90 Pickups quickly ended up with a wide range of artists, the formation of the blue men John Lee Hooker and Freddie King A Rock’n’Roll Carl Perkins. Following the example of Paul, a lot of jazz musicians taken too. Adept in the production of thick, warm tones, from his neck pickup, in particular, despite being a design solidbodied, the Les Paul turned out to be a natural choice for a lot of big Jazzers. More surprising, perhaps, is the ease with which it adapted to the country styles.

In the fifties and the early days of the solid body electric guitar, guitar models are simple in design, price just over a wooden floor with minimal clothing. With the Les Paul Standard, Gibson moved to the aesthetic value of the guitar for the design of a thin and stylish work of art. The move might seem odd to fans of Gibson, generally regarded as traditionalists in the field, but in retrospect, was really an extension of radical designs Orville Gibson mandolin in the 19th century. The new member of the stable Gibson stated that it fully collapsed so that both had previous designs of Orville distinguished form the rest of the pack.

The Les Paul Standard has a body of mahogany top adorned with a carved maple. All Les Paul Gibson guitars have humbucker pickups, which vary depending on model. The Les Paul has changed little since its introduction. There has been little bridge humbucker and updated, but apart from these minor changes, this is still the guitar that defined a generation of music, from blues rock of the ’60s rock to the south of the next decade.

When the nineties rolled around, the sound of Les Paul’s signature was found in almost every musical genre that had, from rock and alternative metal.
Les Paul – The Story

The Les Paul was not the first solid body electric guitar to hit the market. 60 years before the Les Paul, company founder Orville Gibson designed the arch top guitar. In 1936, Gibson issued the ES 150, the first standard electric guitar. When he arrived at the Les Paul design, the company poured in the last decades of the skills and crafts and the result was a guitar that was a work of art itself.

In 1952, Gibson introduced the precursor of the Les Paul Standard, Goldtop with the famous P-90 pickups. The Les Paul had a higher arc placed in an intricate style solid mahogany body. It included a punch in the neck with adjustable truss rod and a head tone. Also integrated into the worthy were the accoutrements that helped distinguish the leader in electric guitars others as a fret board bound and raised pick guard.
Best Electric Guitar Reviews - You should buy PRS Guitars because each of these instruments is a landmark of a special quest. Not just guitar players, but instruments themselves, as well as guitar makers have a history of their own and Paul Reed Smith, the father of PRS Guitars, is no exception.

Sometimes guitar-related histories that seem remote entwine in surprising ways. Brian May (born in 1947, in the UK), the lead guitar in world famous band Queen, and Paul Reed Smith (born in 1956 in Maryland, US), one of the most successful modern guitar makers, also playing in his own band, had a common starting point: small guitars. And that starting point has resulted in a shared obsession for the perfect sound.

Paul’s first instrument ever was a ukulele. A ukulele is very small Hawaiian guitar with only for chords but with a very distinctive mellow sound. Brian’s first steps in music meant regular piano lessons. But these had to be abandoned when the boy was given a banjolele, as from then on he became completely fascinated with its sound. Also four stringed, the banjolele combines a small banjo body with a ukulele neck. This small instrument has a highly peculiar sound, retaining both some harshness from the banjo and some sweetness from the ukulele sound.

May has performed almost all his shows using his famous custom-built guitar, the Red Special. It contains pieces from a fireplace and from a motorbike, as well as a knitting needle, put together by Brian, aged 16 and his father, an aeronautics engineer. The youngster could have probably afforded any ready-made guitar. Borrowing certain tones from his childhood banjolele, the Red Special was built in search for the perfect sound.

The search for the perfect sound also became the focal point in the life of Paul Reed Smith. Only, this pursuit of a dream took another form in his case. He did not become famous as a musician, but as the maker of PRS Guitars. He made his first guitar in college. After finishing it, he was so absorbed that he simply started making the second one. He made guitars, one by one, on a monthly basis, and showed them to musicians in the backstage.

His major breakthrough came after finding the right mentor in Ted Mc Carty, former Gibson president and father of famous Explorer guitars. The nowadays distinctive PRS Guitars are the result of their collaboration and tokens of lives dedicated to the quest for perfect sounds.

Created in 1985 by Paul Reed Smith, the prs guitars represent one of the true success stories of modern guitar building.
Best Electric Guitar Reviews - The Schecter Guitar business was started back in 1976 and was founded by David Schecter. At first the company only produced replacement parts for existing guitars. These days however things have changed and the company produces its own line of electric guitars, bass guitars and steel string acoustic guitars.

The company has a very large catalogue of guitars where customers can choose from. However, the innovative part is that the clients are given the chance to create their own guitar. Everyone interested buying Schecter guitars can custom design every single aspect of the guitar including the body shape, the material and the hardware. It’s true that you won’t be able to custom design your guitar for online orders. However, the official website will give you the opportunity to customize your future guitar using the “Custom Shop Calculator”. When you are done you can take your specifications to the nearest Schecter Guitars dealer.

When you are buying a new guitar there are some things that you should take into consideration and take care of. For instance you will have to organize your budget carefully. Having an idea on how much you are willing to spend on the guitar is very important. You should first carefully analyze the prices that can be found online and only then settle on a price that you feel comfortable with. The next step that you have to take is to go to the nearest dealer and check out the guitars. Play a song on them, give them a try. Investing in such an important item should be done with great care.

If you are looking to customize your Schecter guitar then you should use the online “Custom Shop Calculator” and fill in all the specifications that you may need. You should choose everything from the size to the pickups. Once everything is like you want it to be you should see how much this would cost. When the price is above your possibilities then you can start the process all over again. Make all the changes necessary so that the guitar of your dreams would fit your budget. Print the specifications or e-mail them to your address and have them prepared for when you go to the Schecter guitar dealer.

Buying a guitar is something that has to be done with great care, especially when you are on a tight budget and you have to be careful with what you can afford and what not. Investing in Schecter guitars is the best choice you can make when you want to play music on a great guitar!
This guitar is good for the novice.

Locate the Right Guitar for You with Best Electric Guitar Reviews

I have established this blog, Best Electric Guitar Reviews
to provide electric guitar reviews in helping you in making a well informed and wise decision so you can get the guitar that fits you best.

I am a professional guitar instructor and have been teaching people of all ages on how to play the guitar for over 20 years. I owned a guitar store locally for over 36 years. During these years, I have had the pleasure to see and play many brands of different acoustic and electric guitars. Believe me, not all guitars are alike.

Acoustic or Electric Guitar?

One of the most common questions people ask when getting ready to choose a guitar is what type of guitar should I start with, an acoustic guitar or electric guitar? As far as learning how to play the guitar, they are both played the same. You play the same chords and notes on one as you would do on the other. However, I strongly recommend you start with an electric guitar. You can find a good beginner electric guitar for around $99 brand new. Not only are they smaller and easier to hold, but they have a very slim, small neck making them so much easier to play. The strings are not as big in diameter as found on the acoustic guitar plus they are closer to the fretboard making the guitar strings much easier to press down to play therefore making your chords sound clear and true. You will have to buy a guitar amp for your electric guitar, but you can buy a small guitar amp to start with for around $29 to $39. As you start to learn how to play the guitar, you can then invest in a little bigger guitar amp.

What is a Steel Reinforced Neck?

One feature that is absolutely a must is that you choose a guitar, no matter whether acoustic or electric, with a steel reinforced neck. This is simply a metal bar that is positioned inside the center of the neck of the guitar that is usually adjustable. This steel bar keeps the neck of the guitar from warping or bending. Be sure to ask before you buy your guitar if the guitar you are looking at has this very important feature. If the guitar does not have this, I suggest you look at other guitars that do. All quality guitars will have a steel reinforced guitar neck.

Changing Guitar Strings!

Once you purchase a guitar, another thing I would recommend is that you change the guitar strings that came on your guitar. In most cases when it comes to beginner guitars, the guitar strings that are put on the guitar when they are manufactured are a very low quality guitar string. If you don't know how to change the strings, go to your local guitar store to have them changed. If you decide to change them on your own, simply look at the way the strings are on your guitar and put the new stings on the same way once you take your old guitar strings off. You should be able to purchase some top quality strings at your local guitar store for about $8 to $10 for a complete set of six strings. Some brands I recommend would be Fender, Gibson, GHS, Ernie Ball to name a few.

How Can I Tune My Guitar?

Making sure your guitar is in tune is another common issue for most beginners. Once you start learning how to play guitar, you should be able to tune by ear. However, until you reach that level, there are quite a few very good electronic guitar tuners that are very easy to use, therefore allowing you each time you sit down to practice to make sure your guitar is in perfect tune. One of the best tuners on the market is the Korg KGA1. It allows you to tune with a built-in pitch pipe or you can tune each string automatically using the auto feature.
I have used this tuner for many years and it is very reliable and easy to use.

Good Luck with Choosing Your Guitar!
