Roy Horn’s amazing 10-year recovery and his 69th Birthday Party

Millions of Europeans will watch a four-hour TV documentary this
Thursday of Roy Horn’s amazing 10-year recovery  - and in LAS VEGAS, friends will  celebrate his 69th
birthday at a black-tie gala at the Mirage. It’s exactly a decade since
he cheated death not once but three times, flatlining after his beloved
then-7-year-old tiger Montecore caused him major injuries.

ROBIN LEACH asked Roy how he felt looking back over the 10 years since the
Montecore incident. “First, I feel fabulous. Montecore is my blood
brother. We are closer than we have ever been.”

Siegfried
explained: “The cameras recorded Roy feeding Montecore by hand. They now
have an amazing bond. Look at their faces when Montecore kisses Roy on
the lips, and Roy hugs the tiger. That is real magic. In their faces,
you can see that magic. It gives goose bumps to everybody.”

asked Roy how he felt looking back over the 10 years since the
Montecore incident. “First, I feel fabulous. Montecore is my blood
brother. We are closer than we have ever been.”

The unprecedented European TV broadcast will run from 8 p.m. to midnight
Thursday. “I’d normally be in bed by 10 p.m.,” Siegfried said,
laughing. “I can’t imagine anybody watching me for four hours, but the
way they filmed it is remarkable.

“The camera crews moved in for seven straight days of filming. Roy will
be seen swimming in the pool for his strengthening workouts and riding
his horses. It’s a beautiful documentary. It starts the night of the
last performance at the Mirage. Then it goes into our history and Las
Vegas stage careers leading up to the 13-year run of 5,000 shows at the
Mirage that ended so suddenly.”

High Roller – Largest Ferris Wheel in World

The outer shell of what will be the world’s largest Ferris wheel was
erected Monday on the Las Vegas Strip, a locale already notorious for
inducing sensory overload.

The top of the High Roller ride,
placed across the street from Caesar’s Palace, will soar 55 stories over
Sin City. When the new landmark is completed early next year, it will
be adorned with 1,500 LED lights.

“It’s going to be an icon,”
Project Director David Codiga told The Associated Press. “It’s going to
be a part of your visit to Las Vegas if you ride it or not. It’s more or
less impossible not to see it if you come here.”  READ  MORE

Why Online Gambling and Excessive Alcohol should never be mixed

If you have ever been to a real world casino, then you will have noticed how much free drinks play a part in keeping players at the tables and slot machines happy. The fact you can sit down at a casino in Las Vegas, start playing and then have a pleasant member of staff provide you with free drinks certainly helps persuade you to spend the money you’d have otherwise spent on refreshments, going onto your game or slot of choice.

It is fair to say that there is a long-established link between casino gaming in the real world and alcohol, yet there are strict guidelines in place in these establishments that state that under no circumstances should players who are excessively under the influence of alcohol be allowed to gamble.
Yet in terms of online casinos and mobile casinos as found on mobilecasino.com.au, there can be no such mandate. When you are playing at home, perhaps after a night out with friends, there is no bartender there to make the judgement as to whether you are too inebriated to play. You are reliant on your own judgement and if you have had a few too many beers or shorts, then that judgement is likely to be flawed.
While enjoying an evening playing online casino games and enjoying a beer or two is not going to impair your judgement, there is a tipping point for most people when the negative effects of alcohol can wreak havoc with their gaming and as such, it is wise to use alcohol when playing online games, with a degree of caution.
The reasons for this are well documented. Research has found that gamblers who are exposed to even just a moderate amount of alcohol are likely to play for longer and wager more than those who only drink non-alcoholic drinks.  Furthermore, it has already been proven that alcohol impairs your thinking and judgement, meaning that if you play while drunk, you are going to play for longer, spend more, but be in no fit state to play properly, or perhaps more worryingly, judge when to stop.
For clear examples of this, you only need to look at the stories of two famous high rollers for whom alcohol and gambling proved a somewhat calamitous combination; former NBA Star Allan Iversen and wealthy Nebraskan philanthropist, Terrance Watanabe.
At the height of his fame Allan Iversen was one of the NBA’s biggest stars, earning over tens of millions in salary alone, plus much more in endorsements and sponsorship deals. Yet, he was also a person who loved to gamble and in particular, loved to gamble and drink.
Over the years, Iversen squandered his fortune at the casino playing games such as Three Card Poker, he would quickly get very drunk while playing, making increasingly higher bets and growing increasingly offensive and angry whilst playing (and losing).
Iversen’s addiction to gambling and drink has cost him his entire fortune and left the player penniless when he and his family should have been set up for life.
Terrance Watanabe’s story is eerily similar, having sold his father’s toy import business for hundreds of millions of dollars, Watanabe began playing at Caesars and the Rio casinos in Vegas, however he alleges that the casinos plied him with drink to the state where he was continually drunk.
Over a sustained two-year period, Watanabe bet over $500 million at the casinos, losing almost all his vast personal fortune and running up a debt of over $77 million at the casinos. In one drunken 24-hour spell in 2007, he lost $5 million!
Of course, the shrewd amongst you will have noticed that in both cases, these high rollers broke casino rules about playing while drunk. However, when you are a whale, many of the casinos rules seem not to apply to you, provided you can pay your bills – a fact that Mr Watanabe blames as being a crucial factor in his losses.
So if you are settling down for an evening playing on your laptop, tablet or smartphone at an online casino and have a case of beers in the fridge, then remember these stories and just enjoy the one or two while you play.
Not only will you be in full control of all your faculties, you will find that you are far less likely to have a physical and financial headache the following morning if you do.

The Cosmopolitan has now been added to the list of Las Vegas casino resorts with an active labor dispute

There is an escalating labor dispute at the
Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.  Picket lines and demonstrations by union
workers and community supporters at the Cosmopolitan could negatively
impact the customer experience at this high-end Strip resort.

The Cosmopolitan has now been added to the list of Las Vegas casino resorts with an active labor dispute. (See the www.VegasTravelAlert.org website).

January, the Cosmopolitan has been the site of picket lines and

Matinee Las Vegas Festival May 24-27, 2013

The one in the middle…YES PLEASE!

Matinée is asking fans to “feel the revolution” this Memorial Day – the party revolution, that is.  The festival that has become world famous for
re-imagining the elaborate party experience
with blazing pyrotechnics and production by Cirque du Soleil and Matinée Ibiza, returns to Las Vegas with the
biggest dance festival of the summer. Taking place
Friday, May 24th thru Monday, May 27th, MATINÉE LAS VEGAS FESTIVAL will play host to over 8,000 clubbers dancing to twenty of the world’s leading
DJs at eight high-energy party events.

“In todays over technologized world, people want a real
interactive experience,”
explains Paul Nicholls, part of the production
team behind Matinée North America.
“We combine fantasy elements from concerts,
theatrical stage shows, Hollywood films and even video games into one giant offline spectacle.”

“A Matinée party is all about awe and extravagance,” continues Matinée
North America’s Patrick Crough. “We partner with the hottest and most
cutting-edge acts from around the world
.  For this year’s MATINÉE LAS VEGAS FESTIVAL, we’ve
teamed up with the Las Vegas production, Absinthe. We are integrating
several of their amazing Cirque acts into our main events. It will be
breathtaking.

Matinée launched over fifteen years ago in Ibiza. Since
then, it has evolved internationally with lavish events
including CircuitFestival
Barcelona

When party founders decided to expand the brand into North America, they
asked Crough and Jake Resnicow to oversee and produce all parties in the USA
and Canada.

They made their Las Vegas debut in 2011 with the first Matinée Las Vegas Festival.  It included jaw-dropping
spectacles
, including one that involved synchronized
swimmers performing in a glass pool of water set on fire.  The evening capped with a surprise performance by pop singer Natasha Bedingfield.

“Matinée raises the bar on nightlife,” says Jake Resnicow. “Whether
in the heart of Manhattan or on the beaches of Miami, a Matinée event is meant
to take revelers out of body and beyond the confines of their imagination.”

Last year’s MATINÉE LAS VEGAS FESTIVAL
was wildly successful.  The main event
at Rain Nightclub in the Palms
Hotel featured Spanish dancers, fire displays and live acts by Cirque Du
Soleil.
The weekend’s big surprise was the large crowd of men
that packed the Monday Pool Party.  Says
Nicholls, “It was a party we added at the last minute because pre-sales
were so high.  It ended up being a really
great way to close the long weekend.”

They plan to pull out even more stops this Memorial Day.  They
have
upgraded
the main event to one of Vegas’ hottest and most exclusive clubs, Vanity at
Hard Rock. The dance floor is a massive 14,000 square-feet with an outdoor
terrace and fire pits.

The weekend will feature eight events over four days and nights, including
main events and after-hour parties at the city’s hottest clubs, as well as pool
parties at the weekend’s host hotel, Rumor.
Each party will feature original
themes designed to take revelers on a weekend-long journey.

The DJ line-up includes some of
the world’s most innovative icons in dance music, including
Matinée Spain all-star
DJs Taito Tikaro, Javier Medina and Flavio Zarza.  Billboard #1 remixers/producers Hector
Fonseca, Alyson Calagna, DJ Theresa, Ed Baily, Brazil’s Rodolfo Bravat, and
red-hot rising stars Nina Flowers, Justin Dawson, Ryan Kenney, Luis Perez,
Derek Monteiro and Billy Lace will also headline.

Weekend passes start at $99. The exclusive and luxurious Rumor Hotel (455 East
Harmon Avenue, Las Vegas) is the host hotel for
MATINÉE Las
Vegas Festival.
Suites start at $129/night.  Rumor will also provide guests with
complimentary shuttle service to all weekend events.
