WOW’s Auction House is the subject of envy for people that have been playing other mmorpgs, because it is the best made player’s solution available. Auction Houses, otherwise known as AHs, are found in capital cities of the map of Azeroth: Darnassus, Stormwind, Ironforge and also Exodar, which is on the side of Alliance as well as Undercity, Thunderbluff, Ogrimmar and Silvermoon City on the Horde side.

Using an Auction House

As you get to an Auction House, click on an Auctioneer. The left side will reveal categories of items that will allow you to search through them. When you click on an example located on the Weapons, the sub-categories will be listed, which will simplify your search. The upper frame will reveal the box for the Name, Range, Level, and the drop down menu that is marked  “All”. You can narrow your search depending upon the kind of quality items that you are searching for, such as Uncommon, poor, common, epic or rare items, simply by clicking underneath the All tab. You can also search through, or simply leave it as is and click the Search button located on the right. Searching through every item is not advisable because of the many items on AH. You might easily find yourself getting lost. In the event that you know the name of the item that you are searching for, simply enter it in the search box and click Search button. The list of available items on AH will be revealed. The downside is that you have to click on a link to proceed to next page.

There is one option that allows you to see how the item could look already on you, such as weapons and armor. Just hold down the CTRL key and then left click the item, which will allow you to see it in use. Also, this particular option is aptly named the “dressing room.” As you purchase an item, make sure that you check all costs. The buyout cost is the highest cost, and when you select an item and click on Buyout (which is located at the lower portion of AH window) it will allow you to purchase the item quickly.

The first price seen will be the price that you are able to bid on. Bid by clicking the Bid button which is located on the bottom of window. Then, if you desire to get the item for the lesser price, you can still bid, but other players might do likewise, so it may be a longer chase. As you start to bid, only the amount of the gold that is available to bid with will be taken away from you, however, if someone does outbid you at the same amount, it is returned to you by mail. If you do manage to purchase the item, and not be outbid, the item will then be sent, again by mail as the auction expires.

When you decide to sell a specific item, click on the Auctions button appearing at the left side on the bottom of the AH window. Put the item in Auction item space, and enter in the beginning cost, then the buyout price. Then check the time frame of the Auction. You will then be able to input 24 hours for long, 12 hours for short, and 48 hours for a very lengthy auction. It is advisable to check the costs that are on the same items prior to making your own auction, and lower the price a little and put it on. When your item is sold, then you will still get the gold in your email along with a minimal percentage fee, which the Auction House takes. When an item is not sold, it is returned to you as the auction expires. By clicking on the Auctions and Bids tabs, you can monitor your auctions and bids. This guide will have you on your way to understanding the basics and complexities of the Auction House. The more you begin to understand the concept, the more you will enjoy using it.

While leveling early, the easiest ways to make gold is with mining and herbalism. Selling herbs and ore at the Auction House is a great way to get large amounts of gold while you are leveling up. It is also a very good way earn gold on the higher levels. I do recommend that you grab the Gatherer addon as well.  It will help you to track all of your gathered herbs and ore so you won’t have to roam around attempting to remember where the resources were located.

Mining

Where do you find the mining trainers?

Mining trainers can be found:

Best areas to mine ore:

The best areas to find lots of copper ore to mine are Dun Morogh and Elwynn Forest.

Scouring the eastern parts of the Redridge Mountains and Loch Modan is your best bet for tin ore.

Probably the best place to find gold ore and iron ore is the Alterac Mountains. Ashenvale, Arathi Highliands, Desolace, Stranglethorn Vale and Badlands are also good places to check out.

Go to Highperch located in the Thousand Needles for Mithril ore and Truesilver ore. Badlands is also a good place to look for Mithril ore. The best area in Badlands is Lethlor Ravine.

Searing Gorge and the Burning Steppes are where I recommend going for Thorium ore and Dark Iron ore.

Herbalism

Elwynn Forest and Teldrassil are the best places to find Earthroot, Peacebloom, and Silverleaf

Continuing on to Westfall will get you more Peacebloom, Silverleaf and Earthroot. You will also find Mageroyal there.

The best areas for Bruiseweed are Redridge Mountains and Stonetalon Mountains.  You can also find Kingsblood and Wild Steelbloom in the Northern part of Stonetalon.

Duskwood also has a lot of these two.

Arathi Highlands, Alterac Mountains and the Hinterlands are good places to find Fadeleaf.

The Swamp of Sorrows (also known as herb heaven), is home to Khadgar’s Whiskers and a bunch of other different herbs.

A great place for Sungrass  is Feralas.

It’s pretty easy to make gold on low levels, if you go with the right professions.  The easiest professions with which to make some gold are Herbalism and Mining.  You can get quite a bit of gold by selling ore and herbs at the auction house.  Not only is the one of the best ways to collect gold at the lower levels, but can continue to be useful on higher levels as well.  One thing I will recommend is, before you start, download the Gatherer addon, to make is easier to keep track of all the discovered ore and herbs.

Mining

The Best Locations to Find Ore:

The Barrens is the best area to mine copper ore.  You can also find tin ore there, mostly in the southern areas.

You can also find quite a bit of tin at Thousand Needles and the Stonetalon Mountains.

The Alterac Mountains are a great place to mine gold and iron ore, as are the Arathi Highliands, Ashenvale, Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace, and Badlands.

Go to Thousand Needles – Highperch for Truesilver and Mithril ore.  The Badlands also has Mithril.  Mostly around the Lethlor Ravine.

The Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge are the best spot to find Dark Iron ore and Thorium ore.

Herbalism

Stonetalon or Redridge Mountains are great places to collect Bruiseweed

You can find Wild Steelbloom and Kingsblood in the Northern part of Stonetalon.

You can go to the Alterac Mountains, the Badlands, Arathi Highlands, or to Hinterlands gather Fadeleaf

Swamp of Sorrows is one of the best places to farm various herbs including the Khadgar’s Whiskers. You can also find Sungrass in Feralas.

Both Horde and Alliance leveling guides are available in video game stores (or electronics retail stores) and online; only some of the online versions are completely free.  Both the electronic and paper copies plan your trip through the World of Warcraft in specific steps.  Some guides are so in depth that they can tell you how many monsters to kill or how many quests you should have completed to get to a certain level by a certain amount of time. Others are more laid back and will simply give hints about faster quests or areas of the continents with greater resources for trade skills (such as minerals for mining, plants for herbalism, and fish schools for fishing).  Some guides recommend you avoid trade skills altogether, as they only bog down the leveling process.

Ultimately, the decision to purchase a Horde or Alliance leveling guide depends heavily upon your perception of the World of Warcraft.  Many players decide to use one as a means of escaping the laborious, repetitive grinding of enemies and quests. However, many others believe that a leveling guide is counter intuitive to the game itself — preventing free play and exploration of beautiful and fun continents, as the journey of the game is just as much fun as the destination of level 80 itself.
