One of my female friends just got hitched recently. When I asked her how the honeymoon was, her face lit up and she replied with a large smile, “Wild. Really wild.” Then I replied, “Congratulations on your new course.” She gave me a confused look and asked, “What course?” I gave her a wink and said, “Animal husbandry.”

Wink it is! That’s sample of my joke for the wedding. But it’s better if I get giggles and laughter when I finally deliver my funny best man speech jokes for my cousins wedding this weekend. I can’t wait to tell everyone some personalized and not-so private jokes about the groom.

So on the latest wedding where he was best man, he said in his speech, “I’m getting anxious about this best man thing that’s been going on for years. Are there any anxious bridesmaids out there?”

If there’s a saying “always a bridesmaid, never a bride”, there’s also the “always the best man, never the groom.” And I’m the perfect example of latter. I’m only in my 30’s and yet I have had the honor of standing alongside eight grooms already. The thing I learned from being a best man in more than 10 times in my life is that when you write your speech, you need to make sure that the short best man speeches are delivered with punch and effortlessly. That way there would only be chuckles, giggles, laughter, and no to weeping guests.

Writing is my profession. And other the pay that this passion of mine gives me, I also love the way it allows me to help other people. This may not be much to other people but I love writing how to write a best man speech for my family and friends. Writing a speech is quite hard to do, especially if it entails real emotions. When I was asked by my best friend to be the best man on her wedding day, I was a bit hesitant; not because I don’t want to be part of her special day but because traditionally, it’s the groom who picks the best man. But because I’m closer to the bride than the groom, I found it hard to incorporate best man jokes on my prepared speech. But after few revises and chitchats with the bride, I was finally satisfied with my speech. I just hope that they will find it awesome, too.

When you love someone you’ll do anything and everything to show them that you really are happy, grateful and blessed that they’re part of your life. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t joke around them or even joke about them. This is what I realized during my wedding. The best man in our wedding was my brother; the maid of honor was my husband’s sister. During the best man speech, I literally clutch my stomach because of too much laughter.
