Saint Valentine's Day, commonly shortened to Valentine's Day, is an annual commemoration held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions. The day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in 500 AD. But Why do we celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14th and where do the holiday customs come from?

There are several theories about the history of Valentine's Day. Some say the origins are in Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to renounce their Christian faith, and for attempting to help Christians escape the prisons of the Romans, and died on 14 February AD 269.

According to other historical accounts, Valentine would have served as a priest in the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius III when the young men decided they should all be soldiers, and forbade the marriage. Valentine would realize the injustice of the decree and continue dirigiendio the rite of marriage for young couples in secret until discovered by Claudius who would you imprison him for defiance.

THESE daredevil “extreme kayakers” who paddled down the breathtaking 300ft spillway at one of Wales’ biggest reservoirs yesterday left Welsh Water officials less than thrilled.
