Life Insurance For Older People

What kind of life insurance do you want. Learn more about the advantages of whole life or term life for older people.

————————–

Just because you have turned 50, or even 65, does not mean you cannot find affordable life insurance.
When you were younger, you may have had a group policy through your job. Or perhaps you took out a 20 or 30 year term policy and thought that would be enough to get your through your working and raising kids years. That probably sounded like a good plan. After all, you could buy cheaper term with enough of a death benefit to provide for your children and spouse, pay off a mortgage, and provide financial security in case something happened to you.

The thing is, you probably outlived that coverage. That’s what major insurers count on when they sell you those cheaper term policies. Now, just when it is harder to find affordable coverage, you may find that you would still like to provide that same financial security for your loved ones.
Why would an older person even want life insurance?

As we get older, we still find that coverage can be a good part of our financial plans. A spouse may still need our incomes. Sometimes kids do not go out and become independent on their own, and they do need us to provide for them. In fact, many of those kids come home again, and they bring their own kids.
And those mortgages also do not get paid off on schedule all of the time. Sometimes we refinance our home loans, take out a second mortgage, or even move and take on a new mortgage.

Owning a business can give you another big reason to buy coverage at an older age. If the business owner passes away, they need to make sure that there is money to replace their contributions. In addition, only one family member may inherit the company. Other family members may need to be compensated because they do not get to run the business.

Alternatives for older people’s life insurance are on the market these days.

Americans are living longer, and so insurers are more willing to extend coverage to older people. They are also offering lower rates. In fact, rates may be lower now than they were 10 years ago. It is good to know that something is cheaper than it used to be.

You can certainly find many alternatives. Your choices may be limited by several unique factors though. Your age, health, and where you live matter. In addition, you need to find the type of life insurance that will work best for you. It can be really tough to sort through all of the companies and products on the market these days.

You can find online insurance quote forms to help you save time and money. Just fill your own basic information in one time, and then click the submit button. You will be able to sit back and relax because competitive companies will send you their information so you can find the best plans.

We can help you find older people’s life insurance with our safe, fast, and free life insurance quotes.

Surprised that Wal-Mart wants an Employer Mandated Health Plan?

Wal-mart became sort of infamous for the less-than-generous health insurance plans that were provided to most of the store workers. Apparently these health plans would cover small bills, like doctor’s visits, keeping some percentage of employees happy. But the plans had limits, like mini-meds or specified benefit plans, that would max out if anybody needed to be covered for large health issues like hospital stays or cancer treatment.

So why does the famous Uncle Scrooge want the government to come in and mandate a required minimum amount of health insurance now? Well, apparently the megaloMarts health care costs are still higher than many of their competitiors. A mandated minimum may still come in under Wal-mart’s current cost, but over the cost of some of their major competitors like Target.

Also, a public option may be attractive, depending upon how the plan turns out. If Wal-mart could spend its coverage money on the public plan it may be better than the private sector alternative.

It is something to think about……

Are Guaranteed Acceptance Health Plans Good or Bad?

I have to tell you that I have never been a big fan of any sort of guaranteed acceptance medical plan, or even those mini-med plans that accept more people but have specified benefit levels.

Pros of Guaranteed Acceptance Medical

Takes anybody who can pay the premium (possibly with age restrictions)

Pros of Specified Benefit Mini Meds

Usually takes more people than individual major medical insurance. For instance, some will accept diabetics.

Cost Benefits?

Guaranted Acceptance or Mini Medical Plans are not cheap! Most of the larger guaranteed plans and specified benefits plans will cost as much, or more, than an individual health insurance plan for any coverage that approaches “real health insurance”.

Is it Health Insurance Or Not?

If it doesn’t smell like a pig, it probably isn’t a pig. Sometimes, guaranteed acceptance health plans will be underwritten by insurance companies, and provide some insurance-like benefits. For instance, some plans may offer to pay an amount like $500 a day while a covered person is in the hospital.

Will this hospital benefit keep you from paying lots of money out of pocket if you have to go to the hospital? …probably not. You really need to do some research on the average cost of being in the hospital for a few days before you spend your cash on any sort of medical discount plan even it does advertise that it takes everybody. What they take is everybody’s money!

That $500/day will not do much to defray your $30,000 hospital bill. And what if you need out-patient services later. A $300 - $500 yearly benefit won’t do much for you either. Really.

But is it health insurance? Well a lawyer friend of mine asked me to find out if one advertised plan she could get for $99 a month was really health insurance. That monthly cost seemed a little unrealistic considering she was middle aged and overweight.

Anyway, I called, and I kept asking the customer service rep if the plan was health insurance. I could not get an answer, and as I persisted, his tone turned from friendly to downright nasty! He knew he could getin big trouble if he claimed he was selling health insurance, and yet he knew the sale would be lost if he admitted it was not.

This simple test should raise a red flag in everybody’s mind.

What About Mini Meds?

Now specified benefit plans are allowed to be called medical insurance, though not major medical. They may provide some benefits, but still have limits on payments that are not likely to help much if you run up medical bills. The point is - if you are healthy you are probably better off with major medical health insurance.

If you have some health issues, every US state has a high risk plan you can join. These high risk plans can cost a bit more than a healthy person would pay for medical insurance, but again, larger min-meds are not cheap either!

All of the passengers had a great feeling, and no doubt, the US Airways plane was staffed by a wonderfully trained and experienced crew. Everybody on the plane survived, and what could have been another airline tragedy turned into a wonderful story of survival and redemption.

But there were still losses on all sides. Passengers did endure injuries and stress, and they lost their belongings. Many passengers needed to seek treatment for stress afterwards. But the insurer, AIG, claims that since the airplane was so well staffed with a great pilot and crew, that the airline has no liability - no fault. Instead of crashing or drowning everybody on the plane, the people survived.

Well, that is great news indeed. And all passsengers did get a check for $5,000 from the airline to help them with their immediate concerns after the ordeal. But does their responsibility end there?

Some passengers who could domcument physical losses, like laptops and cell phones, did get another check. These checks were for $5k - $10k. Some passengers also got some therapy paid for - up to 3 whole sessions, and were told to seek coverage from their own health insurance companies. Is this enough? The passengers and their representatives don’t think so, but AIG continues to stonewalls.

And the passengers seem reluctant to push it. Survivor guilt? Maybe - after all, they did walk away with their lives.

Are you having trouble finding homeowners insurance?

Lots of people in storm prone areas are having a hard time finding homeowners coverage these days. After the last few years, many Gulf coast homeowners are struggling, but so are homeowners in many storm and wind ravaged areas. After top insurers had to pay out so many billions of dollars, they are nervous about covering certain areas, of if they will cover it, they want huge premiums!

Find Homeowners Insurance At Affordable Rates

Of course, plans and premiums will vary by location. One simple way to search for the best coverage options is to use an online homeowners insurance quote form! You simply enter your information once, and then get competitive company information returned to you! You can also find contact information for qualified, local agents who can advise you because they are familiar with your area.

You can also, of course, look for high risk home policies in a couple of other ways. One simple way is to ask your neighbors how they are covered. There is not guarantee that their solution will work for you though. You can also contact your own state’s homeowners department, and they should have some answers about high risk home insurance. Find US Insurance Departments Here.

What are high-risk homes?

Your home is located in an area prone to severe weather such as hurricanes, windstorms, tornadoes or hail.

You live in an urban area with high crime, vandalism and theft.

Your home has an old plumbing, electrical and/or heating system—these represent a higher chance of causing fire or water damage.

Have you heard of senior life insurance plans?

If you ever watched daytime TV, you must have seen ads for products like the Golden Plan or Platinum Care plan, or some colors that suggest silver hair and a pleasant old age. They promise to cover senior citizens in their retirement years, though some will market to people in their 40’s or 50’s too. You usually see a silver haired TV personality or a pleansant looking older couple discussing their worry about not having enough life insurance in retirement. If you are a senior citizen, or if you care for an older person, you must have noticed these ads unless you never watch tv during the day.

Whole Life Insurance With Smaller Face Values

Actually these tv spots are put on to get your interested in whole life insurance plans for seniors. They have smaller face values, from a couple of thousand to a couple of tens of thousands, that have been designed to be easy for most older people to qualify for, and also affordable for many families.

Sometimes these plans are also called burial plans or final expense insurance. They are intended as a way for older people to make financial plans for those expenses that come at the end of life. One large expense would be a funeral, of course. But the plans could also pay out cash to settle debts, help survivors travel, and they could even leave some extra money as an estate.

Who Buys and Needs Senior Life Insurance?

Sometimes an older person will purchase a policy for themselves. Sometimes the concerned children or other close family member will pay the premium. The insured person must still answer application questions and sign the application, but the policy could be owned by another person. It is, of course, a delicate subject to discuss. But many times the older person, who wants to be insured, will bring up the subject. The other family members have also been concerned about the high cost of funerals, realize that they don’t have that much savings, and are happy to cooperate.

How To Find Final Expense?

If you are curious, you can get more information on plans and policies that are marketed in your area. It is always good to do some comparison shopping because, as with any other type of insurance, the price and policy will vary by location.

Visit Here: Final Expense Insurance For Seniors

Is Final Expense the Only Option?

Actually some reasonably healthy older people can still qualify for other types of life insurance, and that even includes cheaper term insurance. The choice of policy will depend upon your own goals.

We are beginning to get the long awaited details of Obama’s plan for health care reform. Yes, it is tough to consider this challenging topic when the economy is still struggling, but on the other hand, millions of unemployed people have been losing group health insurance, so maybe this is a really good time.

Required Health Insurance - The plan moves towards requiring every American to be covered. Very poor people would be exempted from paying. We must presume that the plan would include an option for a public health insurance plan that would accept people with health issues that may be declined by private health insurance companies on an indvidual basis. Either that, or the individual health insurance plans would not be allowed to deny those with pre-existing health conditions.

The plan is expected to cost a trillion and a half bucks over the last decade. And of course, the details on where that money will come from have not been worked out. However, planned efficiencies in current health care and in publish health programs that already exist may save billions which should help.

Also, congress is thinking about taxing current health benefits that companies provide for employees. As much as I hate the idea of having Americans pay more taxes, it does seem sort of fair since many employees do not benefit from a company group health insurance plan, and must pay for their own medical benefits.

But is that the whole story? Well, when you really need to make a claim, like after a natural disaster or accident, you will really not care that much about an AM Best Rating. What you will care about is how you are treated!

By the way, we did find this list of top homeowners insurance companies by premiums and financial ratings. Several large home insurance companies were rated on overall experience, pricing, policies, communication (contacting the insurer), billing and payment procedures, and of course, homeowners claims payments.

Who are the Best Homeowners Insurance Companies by Claims and Overall Satisfaction?

But lets look beyond financial ratings, and see which companies are making their clients happy when they really need to! I found a JD Powers survey of customer satisfaction survey, and that seems like a good place to start.

Note: Keep in mind, that not all companies do business in all areas! You need to find insurers that offer policies where you home sits, and you can compare them with the best Homeowners insurance quotes.

Award - Amica Mutural did the best with overall consumer satisfaction. They had 5 star ratings in all areas. No other open home insurer did that well in this survey, though some came close. USAA, open only to the US military, did as well, but not everybody can buy a policy from this company.

Is Bigger also Better?

What is very interesting to note that the largest companies by premium dollars or financial ratings were not in the very top spots of the consumer satisfaction survey. Smaller and more local companies seemed to be more popular with their clients. That is also why it is impossible to give one answer to every person when they ask which home insurance company is the best for them!

Do We Need Long Term Care Insurance (LTCI)?

Well, we usually think about car, home, health, and life insurance, but planning for time in a nursing home seems distant and unattractive. However, with the good news that Americans are living longer comes greatly increased odds that at least half of us will require extended nursing care at some point in our lives.

What Does LTC Cover?

This care could be in a nursing home, assisted living facility, home health care, or even care by a family member. Nursing homes can cost $4,000 a month, or more. Even if a family member cares for you, there will be associated costs like time from work or travel. Either way, these expenses can eat up a lifetime of savings within months, and LTCI is a way to protect yourself, and your family, from this drain.

How Much Does Long Term Care Insurance Cost?

LTC policies differ, but some are flexible enough to cover any of those situations. A variety of waiting periods, maximums, and other features make the costs vary so much it would be impossible to give you the private long term care insurance cost in an article like this.

In addition, premiums are set by age and general health just like other types of health insurance. Note that some policies are tax qualified, which means that premiums can be deducted from income taxes. This could make the real cost of long term care insurance much less! In addition, some insurers offer big discounts for good health, good health habits, and even spouses!

Are All Car Insurance Prices the Same?

You must be aware by now that auto insurance rates will depend upon many details about your life and driving history. Some specific factors could be the number of recent accidents, age, home zip code, and even the type of car a person drives. Beyond that, some insurers will not offer their best rates to people with poor credit scores no matter how good their driving history is!

Do not assume that all insurers will offer you very similar rates though. Each company has its own rate scale, and its own way of doing business in the very competitive auto insurance market. You never want to sacrifice coverage, but you do not want to pay more than you have to either!

Tips to Save On Car Insurance

Shop around! An easy way to do this is to use a free online car insurance quote form! You can find cheap car insurance quotes this way, and you can do it quicky from your home or office PC! And some insurers really do offer better rates online because it reduces many costs for them to attract customers this way.

If you need car insurance for young drivers, you really do need to take advantage of any possible discounts. Taking a driver’s education or safety course, or even maintaining good grades, can help.

Beware of cutting any coverage you have now because that can cost you a lot more money in the long run. Intead, consider raising your deductible for premium savings. If you have to pay $750 instead of $500 if you do have a claim that may not be that bad, but if you remove or reduce your top end coverage, it can cost you thousands of dollars or even more!

Consider combining multiple policies for discounts. Many insurers will charge you less for a policy if you already have another policy with them.
