The best slice cure for most is the kind that doesn't make you think too much! So many people focus on the part of the swing that is wrong and they don't have any real advice on how to fix it. You know the kind of advice, it's usually from buddies you are playing with (who are really no better than you!)..."Hey, you're coming over the top, just come from the inside more"...Okaaaaaay, but HOW? Well, no one slice cure the best for everyone. Some people respond to different types of tips. They just seem to click perfectly in their mind, while other tips seem like rocket science and they will never ever make sense. In fact, sometimes people will say, "I can't do that", and they end up doing it anyway and having no clue that they are actually following the swing tip! Here are some of the basic slice cures to fix your slice quickly with simple tips.

Best Slice Cure: Fix the Grip- One of the absolute easiest ways to cure the slice is to simply fix the grip. Most slicers of the ball have a "weak" grip. And of course most slicers of the ball don't want to listen any further than that, because they don't want to be thinking their golf grip is weak! But it has nothing to do with the strength of your arms or hands, it has to do with the amount of twist to the left your hands have when you grip the club. If your hands are twisted too far to the left, then the grip is considered "weak", if the hands are twisted too far right, then the grip is considered "strong". A weak grip will cause a slice, where a strong grip will cause a hook. So a very basic way to fix the slice is to just twist the hands to the right on your grip!

Best Slice Cure: Fix the Swing Path- If you are a slicer, or when you are struggling with the fade, the swing path is usually cutting across to the left at impact of the golf ball. Therefore, during the downswing, the swing path is pulling to the left while the club face is pointed right. So we want to cure the slice by making the club swing along a path that is more out to the right, or straight toward the target, with a club face that is straight, or even pointing left. That way you will hit a straight shot or a draw. An easy way to fix the swing path is to just point your feet severely to the right. To the right? Yes! That will encourage your swing to follow an inside-to-out path, causing a straight shot, or even a draw.

Best Slice Cure: Why Even Fix It? The absolute most basic way to cure the problems with a slice is, aim more left! Instead of trying to fix the dang thing, how about playing with it? Accepting the fact that you will hit it to the right, and gaining a little comfort in knowing the path of your shot every time? Okay, maybe some of you are thinking, yeah right! Okay, then try some of those other tips above. If this is not enough, why not get some professional online golf coaching courses. Or how about a golf swing training aid?

Learning how to fix a golf slice is perhaps one of the most frustrating things to go through in golf. That is because to fix it, we must make corrections to our swing that are counter-intuitive at first glance. This page will take a look at one of the most common reasons for a slice and give you a single key tip to correct and straighten out your slice. You'll soon see that although it is frustrating, it's really not too hard to fix a golf slice!

Fix #1) Fix A Golf Slice With Your GRIP

The weak grip at ADDRESS of the ball...

...becomes a "neutral" grip at IMPACT

<--The weak grip at address, unconsciously becomes a neutral grip at impact-->

Okay, let's discuss these two pictures...

Notice in the picture of the weak grip (left picture), the hands are turned over to the golfers left just a tad. "So what?" you might ask. Well, whether we like it or not, at impact our grip tends to be looking more like the picture of the neutral grip (right picture). This is just a fact. There is a reason why the neutral grip is called a neutral grip, because that is the natural impact position of most golfers. Okay, okay, I know EVERY golfer has a different impact hand position, but these pictures illustrate exactly what is happening to most slicers of the ball.

What Happens To The Club Face In These Two Pictures?

So now think about it. If you grip the club with the "weak" grip illustrated above, and at impact your hands are in the "neutral" position, which way is the club face pointed? To the Right!! This is either going to make your ball go straight right, or impart right hand spin on the ball. Right? ...maybe I should say, Correct?

So The Golf Slice Fix Is?

Turn your hands at address of the ball more to the "neutral" position. That means the V in between the right thumb and fore finger pointing to your right shoulder. The left hand is in a position to show you 2 1/2 knuckles. The V on the left hand will more or less be pointed to your left shoulder or more towards the center of your chest. Now the club won't rotate to the right at impact. It will come through at the same position it was in at address!

This is one of the simplest fixes that WORKS.

This is such a simple swing tip that all good golfers know. If a tour player wants to play a little cut, often they will just weaken their grip, and now they know the ball will go to the right. It has to.

The Other Reason A Slice Occurs? Swing Path.

You might find by trying the above tip that all of a sudden your slice is fixed. But if it isn't, that doesn't mean to disregard the tip. A neutral grip is extremely important. You may just also have a common problem of cutting accross the target line of the ball from outside to in.

Take Your Game To The Next Level

So what happens when you fix the slice? There is always the next fundamental problem that will arise. It is an excellent idea to commit yourself to learning all the fundamentals of the golf game so that each shot you face, you know exactly what to do. A good recommendation is to use an at home golf instruction system, such as "The Simple Swing" by David Nevogt, to give you the same solid foundation of golf knowledge that ALL tour players use.

Or How About Using A Swing Trainer To Straighten Your Shots?

Using a golf swing trainer is just as valuable as taking a dozen golf lessons. This is because most of these swing trainers are designed to force you into the correct swing positions to hit the ball straighter and longer.

Learning how to a driver straight and long, we all know, can be a trying endeavor. Maybe you've done it every once and a while and wonder, "what the heck did I do?". This page aims to give you some simple explanations of how a drive is hit straight and long and will in turn have you slicing or hooking less often.

Swinging "On-Plane" Means More Power and Accuracy

It is a good visual to just take a look at the picture below to see what it means to swing on plane...

See how if you were to keep the club in contact with the "hula hoop" device, that you would be swinging along one plane? SLICERS will tend to lose contact with the hula hoop on the down swing- swinging away from the device, then back to the ball. This is called the dreaded, "over the top" move. Contrastly, HOOKERS of the ball would tend to drop the club even further back in the downswing, then back out to the ball causing a hook. This "getting stuck inside" move can cause either a massive push or hook.

Therefore, the perfect swing would be perfectly on plane in the back swing and down swing to impact. It is amazing how much power and accuracy is achieved when we hit swing in this "slot".

How Do We Achieve The On-Plane Swing?

Well, it is very helpful to use devices exactly like the one shown above, or maybe a product like the "Medicus Dual Hinge" club. In fact, most swing aids do the exact same thing: Get you to swing on-plane.

Using Drills and Swing Tips To Correct The Swing Plane

These are also very easy ways to start hitting the driver straight and effortlessly long. Which tips do you use? Well, you need to diagnose the problem accurately first, or else it is wasted effort.

Slicers: You are most likely coming over the top in the swing plane. Also, your grip is most likely too weak.

Hookers: You are most likely coming too far from the inside, and it is an excellent chance your grip is too strong.

There is a reason that all good golfers have solid fundamentals. These fundamentals ingrain in our head the neutral way to swing- The neutral way to grip- The way to swing straight, hit it straight and give us effortless power. By mastering what it means to be neutral, and on plane, we can use that as a point to always go back to to diagnose problems!

For instance, let's look at the "neutral grip". Some people never learn the correct grip when they start out, and they just use what "feels good" to them. Learning and forcing yourself to use the correct grip will usually work out all other problems. See the picture below of a correct neutral grip...

See how the right hand "V" between the thumb and forefinger is pointing straight up the arm to the right shoulder. The left hand shows about 2 and 1/2 knuckles from the front view. Also notice the grip of the club is mostly with the fingers instead of the palm.

Now turn the right hand to the players right, and the grip is strong. Turn the right hand to the players left and the grip is weak. A strong grip promotes a hook, a weak grip promotes a slice.

This is just one of the many fundamentals that are so simple that can diagnose many problems in seconds. I highly recommend checking out a good, CHEAP, instructional program that you can instantly download such as "The Simple Golf Swing" by David Nevogt. You can also check out a good review from an amateur perspective by clicking HERE.

Take your game to the next level by committing yourself to learning (or re-learning) the fundamentals. That way you take all the guess work out of shots. You know exactly what needs to be done to RIP that shot down the center of the fairway. And if the shot doesn't go the way you planned, you will know immediately what to change for the next shot.

Hi, I'm Greg, and here's my experience with "The Simple Swing" by David Nevogt.

Well, my starting handicap was around a 22, so if something claims it can drop 7 strokes off my game in 2 weeks, I figure what the hell... I hit a weak slice, and absolutely stink at the short game, so what's to lose?

The beginning was interesting just reading through the book. I skimmed it then read it through pretty thoroughly, trying the tips I could without shattering anything in my living room. I watched the Simple Swing videos and everything the course had to offer and felt that it did a pretty darn good job of explaining how it was going to trim 7 strokes off a hackers game like mine. 15 minutes a day, 3 times a week David Nevogt said...we'll see.

What I found initially...According to 'The Simple Swing', my grip and alignment of shoulders with my feet were waaaaaay off. I fight a slice like most of the golfers on the planet, and was excited to try the combo of new grip with new alignment.

Day 1 on the range- I found it hard to even make contact without topping or shanking! Luckily the course provides well explained "fix points" that I quickly referenced and ended up hitting it pretty well a few times. Like, better than I've ever hit it a few times, so I was pretty excited.

Following practice sessions- I think the second day went about the same with a few "careered" shots. However after the third and fourth time, the whole concept of swinging on one axis started to click with me. I was not turning my shoulders correctly on the back swing, or even transferring my weight to the left foot on the follow through. These two "aha" realizations got me RIPPING the ball and actually hitting a draw every once in a while...that was one of the cooler moments of my life by the way... yeah I know I need to get out more.

So I played a round that Saturday. I shot a 96. That's like 2 shots over my handicap. But it was weird, I actually felt good about the round. I was hitting shots over greens it seemed on every hole. I was liking my new-found power. I missed putt after putt and chipped like an idiot. Ummmm, maybe I should start thinking about the Simple Swing short game lessons a little more and keep up with the practice...

That second week I was determined to spend a little more time on the short game. I practiced the fundamentals taught in the course bonuses for chipping, putting and sand play. I guess I never thought about this part of the game correctly...at ALL. I feel like there was a definite shift of thinking for every aspect of the short game for me. I started swinging faster through chips and getting much better control, which was very counter-intuitive for me. I started putting much more on-line with better distance control. It was fun. Ready for the weekend...

I played two times that second week of doing the "Simple Swing Course" and shot a 89 and an 84. ANY time I break 90 is considered a respectable day for me...but an 84 was just an awesome feeling! And it wasn't one of those 84's... "you know except for that one hole where I gave myself a 7"...it was a real 84!

So I guess in conclusion, I would recommend wholeheartedly to anyone who wants to become a better player to go ahead and just try "The Simple Swing" by David Nevogt. It's an 8 week money back guarantee and basically cheaper than one lesson with a golf pro, so there really is nothing to lose.

There's stat-trackers, DVD clips, drills, etc...it has just simply changed my whole approach to the game and made it so much more fun for me. I consistently shoot in the 80's now. I really don't even think about shooting in the 90's. Okay, it still happens, but my confidence is still high! I'm just working on breaking the 80's barrier now and it hasn't been more than 7 weeks since I bought The Simple Swing. I've said it to all the guys I play with and I'll say it to you- GET IT!

But maybe you are saying to yourself..."uhhh, I'm not going to use THAT thing on the range!" Well, take a look at some of the different types out there and you decide...

The "Hula Hoop"-Type of Plane Trainer-

These types of trainers can be a great help, but for some of us, they are not practical to take to the range! For those with Golf Hitting Nets at home, this would be a nice addition to your practice area.

2)Other Various Swing Plane Gadgets

Trainers like this are numerous on the market. There are some devices like the "impact ball" which is a ball that goes in between the forearms. You swing with this ball and your swing is kept on plane. There are many other devices that come out on the market every year that claim to do the same thing, fix the swing plane.

3)Club Training Devices- i.e. Medicus "Dual Hinge" Clubs

Most people don't even know that the Medicus is a swing plane trainer. But this is by far the most practical, fast acting and cheap swing plane trainer. No nonsense here. Just swing it. Keep swinging it until it doesn't break down. Repeat, and you are hitting the ball farther in minutes! Best of all, there's no setting it up, you just keep it in the bag.

No matter which device you choose to go with, be rest assured that fixing the swing plane is an incredible way to add distance, accuracy, and lower your scores. You'll hit more greens, hit more fairways, be able to swing as hard as you want without losing accuracy, generally just have more fun with golf!

Basically all problems with the golf swing stem from the swing plane. A hook, a slice, topping, fat shots, and other problems can be fixed with a fundamentally sound, on plane swing. So get a swing plane trainer and you'll start having more fun!

I spent A LOT of time looking for golf tips to cure the slice that I had developed over the last few years. I was so sick of looking for my balls in the weeds, or quietly cringing while I listened for the ball to bounce off 6 or 7 parts of a house before coming to rest in their yard!

The bottom line is a few good tips to cure the slice helped me in the long run. The first step was for me to understand what the "slicer's" golf grip and "slicer's" swing path look like and why they occur. Then, using this knowledge and a swing training aid helped me completely get rid of my slice.

Knowing The Causes Of The Slice-

Left Hand Neutral Grip-A "neutral" left hand grip (a grip that is not "strong" nor "weak") should have you looking at about 2 to 2 and 1/2 knuckles on the back of your left hand.

Right Hand Neutral Grip-A "neutral" right hand should have the crease between your thumb and forefinger pointing towards your right shoulder.

A WEAK grip is when your hands (or maybe only one of your hands...it only takes one of them to be off!) are rotated to the left too much when you grip the club.

So my grip is weak...so what? Bringing your grip back to neutral when you grip the club is one of the basic tips to Fixing the swing path. Why? Because this "nuetral" grip is most likely where your hands will be at the exact time of impact!

So if your hands naturally come to this neutral position at impact, but you have held the club with a weak grip from the beginning, then the club will be facing to the right at impact, right? Therefore, we start hitting the ball right, and we try to compensate by swinging to the left, and this makes a SLICE.

Golf Tips To Cure The Slice- We've Talked About Weak Grip...Now We Fix The Swing Path

A weak grip alone will not cause a slice. It will however create a shot that goes high, weak, and to the right.

Fixing the swing path is extremely important to stop the slice AND create more power.

When we hit these weak, high and right shots, we slicers will tend to swing harder and to the left, creating a left to right spin...and there we have our "power-slice"!

I recommend using a swing trainer or getting some at-home instruction from the internet. In person lessons can get very expensive.

Hitting the driver straight off the tee is arguably the most important aspect of scoring well. Keeping it in play and on the short grass makes any hole that much easier.

Hitting It Offline? Know The Causes First...

Slicing? The Grip Is Too Weak:
Starting to hit the driver straight can often be as simple as rotating your left hand grip over to the right. Think about it...if your hands come through the ball during your swing and they are pointing to the right (which they are if you are hitting a slice!), then why not rotate your hands to the right at address and have the club face pointing straight at impact? But there's more...

Swing Path Is Cutting Across The Ball:
Of course, if you fix the grip and not the swing path, then you will just hit a straight shot...LEFT! When we slice the ball, the club is cutting across to the left, imparting a left to right spin. But that is only half the story as we have just discussed, because the club must also be pointing to the right in order for a slice to happen. Click to see a good way to straighten your drives...

Hit A Driver Straight With A Training Aid: Force Yourself To Swing Correct and Gain Distance and Accuracy.

It is very important to know the causes and effects of the golf swing path and golf grip...But as we all know about golf, it's one thing to know what we need to do and a whole other thing actually doing it!! Swinging the club correctly makes that shot where we say "Yes! There it was!", but this is often short-lived on the range because we don't have someone overseeing our practice...unless we are spending money on lessons.

I find it extremely helpful to use the Momentus club (5-iron I use) to give me immediate feedback of my swing. If I ever feel like I am coming over the top, or losing power, I swing the Momentus for a few minutes and it works every time. What I also like about this training aid is the fact that it's not some flukey vest or hula-hoop device...it's just another club you put in your bag and pull it out when you need it.

It's pretty harsh and it tells the truth about your swing...because you can't even swing it if you are swinging wrong!

Or how about trying an online instruction program? There are a few great ones out there such as "The Simple Swing" and "Peak Performance Golf". Either way they are cheaper than in person lessons which can add up fast.
