Which Banks did the FDIC Close Down – Six Illinois Banks and One Texas Bank will Reopen Soon

[Best Syndication News] The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) announced yesterday that they will be taking over and closing a total of seven banks. This brings the total numbers of banks that have failed in 2009 to 52. The banks that are being closed are six banks in Illinois and one bank in Texas.

The six banks in Illinois are interlinked and being controlled by one family that had similar ways that they would operate their banks, which the FDIC said "created concentrated exposure in each institution."

All of the banks have new owners and they will reopen by Monday under the new bank owners branch names. Here is the details of the banks that are affected by the closures and what to expect.

(Best Syndication News) The Swine Flu may be ramping up in the northern hemisphere again. The Department of Health (DH) in the UK reports that the vast majority of cases have been mild with only a small number of severe cases. The H1N1 virus continues to spread throughout the country.

Reports suggest that officials believe the United Kingdom could face 100,000 cases by the end of August. Those numbers have been challenged, but Health Minister Andy Burnham told the House of Commons Thursday: “Cases are doubling every week, and on this trend we could see over 100,000 cases per day by the end of August."

The fire station is nearly completed and the county held their grand opening on Tuesday. Although the station sits on the Phelan side of Beekley, it is actually in Pinon Hills. The county originally put a temporary fire station in on Beekley Road near Phelan Road. At that time the residents were told that a new building would be built shortly. On Tuesday First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt gave former supervisor Bill Postmus credit for getting the ball rolling after two decades.

(Best Syndication News) Microsoft says you can keep track of thousands of tweets by celebrities using their Bing search engine. If you search for Al Gore the latest twitter entries by the former Vice President are supposed to show up. This may not be the case for all users of Bing though.

The real-time twitter search results have been in the works for months but just came to fruition this last week. So far Google has not offered this. But is the twitter result unique and worth the fuss? Not according to Michael Higgins of InformationWeek who says you can get the same results from twitter. It would have been useful if users could get Twitter results as a subset of overall search results.

[Best Syndication News] Actor, Karl Malden died at his home in Los Angeles this past Wednesday. Malden was 97 years old.

Malden began his acting career onstage in the 1930's and he has appeared in over 50 films. He played the character, Lt. Mike Stone in the 1970's TV series, “The Streets of San Francisco.”

Malden is most known for his acting roles in the films, “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “On the Waterfront.”

Malden also appeared in Amercian Express Traveler's Check commercials and made the “Never Leave Home Without” slogan famous.

[Best Syndication News] The United States obesity rates are still a problem, with Mississippi having the highest obesity rate and has been at the top of the list for the fifth year in a row. Alabama, West Virginia, and Tennessee also had high rates of obesity, according to the report “F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies Are Failing in America 2009”, which was released July 1st, by the Trust for America's Health (TFAH) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).

Unfortunately, this year's report showed that adult obesity rates increased in 23 states and not one state saw a decrease from last year's report. Children are also suffering more from being overweight as the percentage of obese or overweight children is at or above 30 percent in 30 states.

[Best Syndication News] The Jonas Brothers oldest brother, Kevin Jonas, 21, asked Danielle Deleasa, 22, to marry him this past Wednesday morning. She was reported to have said yes super fast many times in a row, as she accepted the 3 carat cushion-cut diamond ring that he presented her.

Deleasa was a former hairdresser from New Jersey. Kevin and Deleasa first met in May of 2007 while vacationing with their families in the Bahamas.

They have not yet set a date for the wedding. According to US Magazine Kevin's parents are happy with the news and told the magazine that “it is such a blessing that she will be joining our family.”

The younger Jonas brothers wrote on their twitter page "Congrats big brother.....Dani welcome to the family, we can't wait to have you join us on the road!"

[Best Syndication News] Jermaine Jackson sat down with Matt Lauer on NBC's Today Show. Lauer also took viewers on a tour inside Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch mansion. The house was empty but Lauer did show the master bedroom with the hidden room in the closet, the huge kitchen and the living room and foyer. The wood floors were removed from an old chateaus in France and reassembled for the home.

Jermaine Jackson told Lauer that he felt really empty. He said that he wished it was himself that died and not Michael.

Jermaine Jackson said that if Michael died from prescription drug use, that he would be hurt because he wouldn't have expected Michael to do something that he was so against.

There are rumors that Apple will get a small residual fee from the phone companies, but that is small compared to the selling price of the phone.

Apple must continue to sell their loyal customers on new, faster, better products. The 3.1 update is in beta already according to Dan Moren with Macworld.com. The new beta is an “update” rather than a whole new phone, but it is already available for developers to download. It is all about the software now.

[Best Syndication News] The ongoing financial troubles for the state of California continues as it is running out of time to come up with a way to close the budget gap. The problem has gotten worst with a larger budget gap of $26.3 billion when previously it was $24.3 billion. The gap could grow up to 7 billion more than the $24.3 billion shortfall before things would turn around. This has prompted California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to declare a fiscal emergency today to force lawmakers to attend a special session to work of the budget gap crisis. This was declared because they did not come to a conclusion on Tuesday on how they will balance the budget.

In the meantime, state officials are issuing “IOU's” to vendors and local agencies promising to pay them but at a later time. This happened 17 years ago with California coming up short and issuing IOU's. The government officials are trying to avoid the IOU's and have agreed to cut $3.3 billion that would have went to public schools.

[Best Syndication News] The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is forcing the manufacturers of smoking cessation drugs Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) to put a warning on the box that these medication. The want consumers to be aware that taking these medications can cause serious mental health events that include any changes in behavior, having a depressed mood, becoming hostile, and can even lead to suicidal thoughts when taking these drugs.

The FDA made this decision after they had received reports through the Adverse Event Reporting System since these medications were being sold to consumers and also they used information that from clinical trials and scientific literature to confirm these mental health risks.

A website called, PropertyRoom.com was featured on NBC's Today Show showing how one company is helping to sell off the unclaimed property via an online auction format. In addition to this you might be able to find some deals on lost baggage, shipments, and returned goods that also are inventory liquidators.

PropertyRoom.com was founded by former police officers in 1999 which specializes in auctioning off stolen, seized, found and surplus goods and vehicles. The website states that currently they are working with 1,500 law enforcement and other public agencies nationwide to sell the goods via the online auction format. They also inventory, coordinate, promote and have live auctions as well.

California Cities with Jobless Rates over 15 percent – Cities in the US with Lowest Unemployment Rates

[Best Syndication News] California has been hit hard by people losing their jobs. There are seven cities in California that have an unemployment rate of 15 percent or higher. California's overall unemployment rate is at 11.5 percent. Only five state have higher unemployment rates, Rhode Island with 12.1 percent, South Carolina with 12.1 percent, Oregon with 12.4 percent, and Michigan with 14.1 percent.

The hardest hit metropolitan city in California for is El Centro with an unemployment rate of 26.8 percent. It is also the hardest hit metropolitan area in the US reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Yuba City, CA has a 17.7 percent unemployment rate and was the fourth hardest hit metropolitan city in the report.

Nestle Cookie Dough Recall – List of Products being Recalled

[Best Syndication News] The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that they have found E. coli O157:H7 bacterium in a sample that was taken from the prepackaged Nestlé Toll House refrigerated cookie dough that was voluntarily being recalled by the manufacturer on June 19th.

The FDA urges consumers not to eat the contaminated Nestle cookie dough products as there has been several reports from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) of people getting sick from the product. So far the CDC reports that 69 people have gotten ill from eaten the contaminated cookie dough. Out of these people, 34 of them had to be hospitalized. There were 9 people that suffered a sever complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome. So far there has been no reports of deaths caused by the cookie dough with E. coli.

The FDA said that more testing would be needed to confirm that the E. coli strain that they found is the same that is causing the outbreak.
